Even if he could locate the owner, he shouldn't exchange with the person, his (new owner) details is now on it. The former owner should go and modify his number in bank

Its simple

Like I said if he hasn't used it for long

They could both go to the dealer eg MTN and deregister it for the former owner
Do you know how important it could mean to the ex

Any way all that is story

You can still delete details and keep it..... You decide

For your own good, take it to any MTN office..

That number belonged to someone else and MTN probably sold it because the person did not use it for 6 months
in my own I always received millions of naira monthly pension alert

That was how MTN sold one Honorable's number to me over 10 years ago.I'm still using it though but it wasn't fun initially. The wife kept calling and threatening me that I was the husband's mistress. Also his family and associate kept calling for one meeting or the other.

I am a banker. Kindly go to any access bank branch to report they will remove the account attached to the number. What must have happened is that someone used to own that sim and for one reason or the other he abandoned the line(he could be dead) so having been abandoned for more than six months MTN recovered the nos and re allocate. So kindly go to Access bank to complain so they can remove the nos from the account. You abandoning it doesnt change anything as the nos has been registered against your phone on MTN database and if there is an ongoing investigation your phone IMEI will pop up and you can be connected by various nos u have used on that phone. If you are scared get a lawyer to go to Access with you or go make an official report at a police station and get a police report that you filed an official complain so if there is an issue you will have evidence that you lodged a complain.

I think it would also be a good idea for Banks to step up the kyc campaign especially regarding the use of mobile numbers linked to ones account.

For instance, there should be regular notifications to customers that once there is a change in any detail (address, phone no, etc) such customer should PROMPTLY report to his/her bank for update.
Re: I Keep Receiving strange Bank Alerts On My New Sim by krisbweezy91(m): 3:30am On Jul 23, 2020
Which law? The law states that a bank should update a customers information without the customers authorization or consent?

You people will come here to confidently spill thrash.

onegb:
Use your sim and warn access bank using there online support to stop sending you messages else sue them and demand damage.

Even if there formal customer used it before.

The law demand that bank should update customer records within 3 month of any change.

Is it credit alert or a debit alert? If na credit alert quickly contact your bank to be directing it into your confirm account. You bought the line and everything included.

Go to Access Bank and explain things to them so that they can block the account where the alert is coming from just to save yourself from trouble.

Bro, I have been using the sim for a few month now and I have made no such attempt.
I has removed the sim from my phone.
I will leave it and forget all about it
Take it to MTN so they can de-register you. The reason being that your name and biometric is attached to the sim. In the event there's fraud on the account. It will be traced to the sim. It doesn't matter whether you throw away the sim or not.

I was in the same situation some months back. My SIM wasn't even new oo but I kept receiving the alerts from same access. I recharged my line and bought data from the over 70k in the account since I couldn't trace the person. Then, there was a time another Amount entered, I facebook search the name of the sender and coincidentally met the same and he gave me the contact of the account owner. I called her and told her about it. I later sent the amount I used from the account to her (N1220) the bank charge deducted inclusive. I then emailed access bank and they removed my phone number from the account.

Zenithpeak:

The sim is now registered on your name, so, anything happening on that sim card passes through name therefore, destroying it wouldn't change anything.

Write a formal letter to mtn, maybe through your legal adviser if you can afford it. instruct them to deregister your name from that sim.... You'll state your reasons and remind them of the legal implications that may ensure if they refused to treat your matter as urgent as possible.

That's the only way you can absolve yourself from any unfortunate crime story that may be uncovered in the future.

Remember the travails of the guy that bought Buhari's daughter former sim card and borrow wisdom.
It is a pity the kind of banana republic we find ourselves in. If a Network provider is reissuing sim cards/numbers, they ought to have even sent the police such notices before hand.
How one can get into "trouble" just for buying a sim card with your money in this country is amazing.

Whoever is using my old number is definitely getting bank alerts related to my account because I've been unable to change the number due to the strange requirements demanded by the bank. I did receive an email from the bank a few months ago alerting me that the number is now registered to someone else.

What I'm trying to tell you is that it's not an issue. You can continue to use the SIM since it's registered. There are people living outside the country who do not have the opportunity to visit the bank, or send them the necessary documents to effect the change.

I don't blame blame you. Even the Bible says that my people suffer for lack of knowledge.

Am sure you didn't read your bank terms before opening account.

A change in the personal information provided to the bank without notifying them within two weeks can lead to flagging your account.

Seems you used that particular number to spam on Whatsapp multiple times. You can message Whatsapp on their help line. Do it while registering the same banned number
