It was days later while my mom was routinely checking my hair for lice (it was a constant war she fought while were kids ) that she discovered the scar and asked me how it happened and I explained. She simply hugged me from behind and apologized for the incident. The point here is that that incident marked a downward spiral in my relationship with my Dad. A barrier was erected immediately that took decades to pull down. It was a very impressionable age, and even the excuse that African men do not apologize did absolutely nothing to assuage anything, maybe even exacerbated the building resentment.
So please by all means use wisdom in this regard. When you are wrong, there is nothing wrong in sincerely owning up to it.
