Yes you are right GEJ was corrupt. God knows i did not like the man

But removing subsidy was the right decision then. And if GEJ had not removed subsides on kerosene and diesel by now we would have been funding our budget with loans and loans alone

Yes subsidy removal is right and a must, but not before ending our dependency on imported petroleum products and an epileptic power supply that keep us glued to fueling generators for electricity.

There are still insinuations about your health and fitness. Are you really fit for the rigours of the Presidency?

Ah! I told you where I am now. I just finished performing the the umrah. I did the seven rounds of tawaf, I did the seven trips between safa and Marwa. Can a sick person do that? That is stale news, my brother. People who are making those insinuations have nothing else to say but lies and rubbish.

I have moved round, spoke at different platforms and stood for hours to address different audiences. Before they said I could not walk, they said I could not stand, they are shamed. Since the campaign started I have marshalled more original ideas than anyone else. I have demonstrated knowledge, experience and great capacity to be on top of issues in the country.

This is quite true. In 2012, many folks protested across the political divide. Even Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala as Finance Minister was taken by surprise at the timing of the subsidy removal announcement.

In any case, events since then have shown that GEJ was right and we should have removed this subsidy long ago. Umaru Musa Yaradua of blessed memory that many eulogise today reversed the sale of existing moribund refineries to the Dangote group and stopped a lot of ongoing reforms of the OBJ era. Those actions had long lasting negative impact on our today's economy.

Key thing though is that all the leading presidential candidates today want to remove subsidy so I see no issue debating it one way or another. With Dangote refinery due on stream before end of this year, some modular refineries in operation and others coming on stream plus rehabilitation of existing refineries, the foundation has been laid to resolve this issue once and for all. Let us just wait till all these take off. Nothing else anyone can do for now no matter how intelligent they may sound

Recently I was asked about fuel subsidy removal, and I said I will ensure we end the wastage and re-channel the money to the people who truly need it. This is one position that almost all the candidates are united about. We all agreed that the subsidy regime is abused and it favours the rich more than the poor. It has to go.

Mr. Tinubu you knew all these but you fought Jonathan government with everything be it media houses, Agboro... you Tinubu personally made Jonathan from the south south lost 2015 election to buhari.

I disagree with you , Jonathan regime proposed on fuel subsidy removal back then would av cost us free fall of our economy if not for drastic step and measurement take by other stakeholders then our economy would av be on zero collapse ! What Tinubu and those other crook were against was lack of preparation, pls get your fact right Tinubu was never against Jonathan proposer on subsidy removal what they only disagree with him on was lack of preparation! Even Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala GCON personally hold public press conference to disagree with Jonathan on the #SuddenRemoval because it would av caused many unforetold hardship.

1. The problem is actualy the issue of trust. Removal of fuel subsidy may be good but the money saved or made from it will be stolen by our corrupt leaders.
2. As a result, most people do not see the point of removing the subsidy when any gain made from it will be stolen anyway
3. Also, the Government has to showcase the fact that it is serious about repairing the refineries. Are we sure the refineries will be repaired by the end of he year or it is just another lie to make us endure fuel subsidy removal.
4. A government that does not provide jobs, education, health, electricity and even security cannot be trusted with anything. I beleive the fuel subsidy money will be stolen. Since Jonathan and he others removed the subsidy what have they done with the money? The economy has worsened. Our leaders are not sincere with anything.
5. This is why Nigerians dont even trust the Government when it comes to security. Our leaders are not serious with anything and so when they lie that they can protect our lives the average Nigerian wonders if it is no another lie.
6. Bad Governance. Lack of trust and accountabiliy between the government and the masses is the real problem. It makes fuel subsidy removal or any other long term beneficial programme impossible.

That's why we have a participatory democracy...so that you can put pressure on them not to steal.

Democracy is hard work. The people in sane countries enjoy because many people did the hard work...including getting killed and suffering...to ensure that such benefits were present.

If you don't want to do the hard work, just say so.

3. Also, the Government has to showcase the fact that it is serious about repairing the refineries. Are we sure the refineries will be repaired by the end of he year or it is just another lie to make us endure fuel subsidy removal.

1.The reason why we have bad refineries is because of subsidy.

Subsidy is what we pay the petrol industry to cover their losses from selling petrol below the price of production and the market price. The problem is, because the cost of production is always rising...and is never static...subsidy prices rise.

This meant that refineries never had enough profit to be repaired properly. Also, since free government money was coming in in the name of subsidy...sabotage happened.

This won't have happened if there was no subsidy, and petrol was sold at a profit. The refineries would work because sabotage would mean loss of money. And since no free government money, they would collapse. Any profit made would be funnelled into making sure the refineries work.

2.And the reason why we cannot have new refineries is because subsidy.

NNPC sells fuel to market at N148 (to depot). It costs at least N250 to produce one liter of fuel. Importing the thing bumps the cost to N510 as at novemeber. NNPC has to sell the fuel at N148. #

Let the above sink in.

That means NNPC uses all its money to make sure fuel is cheap. In order to keep NNPC from collapsing....government channels a lot of subsidy money to them. But as the cost of producing fuel and transporting it rises, the more NNPC has to spend, and the more government bails it out....and the money starts comming from other parts of the budget...

That means a deficit....which has to be covered for....which means....LOANS.
4. A government that does not provide jobs, education, health, electricity and even security cannot be trusted with anything. I beleive the fuel subsidy money will be stolen. Since Jonathan and he others removed the subsidy what have they done with the money? The economy has worsened. Our leaders are not sincere with anything.

What happens is partial removal of subsidy.

In 2011, fuel was being sold at N65 per liter...meanwhile it was costing N99 to bring in that liter.

Government raised prices to N97...meaning subsidy was N2 per liter.

By 2015, when Buhari took over, retail price was N87....but the cost of bringing in the fuel had jumped to N132 per liter...meaning that it was now costing N45 per liter to subsidize that fuel.

Buhari had to partially remove subsidy...and raised prices to N145...

Partial removal is done to free up some money for government spending, and reduce dependency on loans. It is not a permanent fix...it is a temporary fix.

Has been ongoing for years. In 1981...fuel cost 15 kobo. Now it costs N180. 42 decades of partial removals. If not....

If it was not done...by now you won't hav ebeen paid salaries for 5 years, while government looks for loans just to pay for cheap fuel.

Why would you remove fuel subsidy ?
1. How many rich people compared to poor would keeping it favour ?
2. Removing it basically means the poor people almost 80% will pay more at the pump. ? Are you increasing their salaries or providing alternatives to it ?
Talk is cheap sha !

You are right. But our leaders are funny. If the subsidy is removed, are we sure that they will repair the refineries.
Some Government officials might hijack the money meant to repair the refineries and slow everything down.
If we remove the fuel subsidy, the Refineries may not be built and we will see nothing in 5 years time.
iN the next 5 years the Government may just not repair the refineries.
For example, the ajaokuta steel rolling company was started in 1978 and untill now, they have not finished it.
A period of 44 years. I hope this fuel subsidy thing does not become something like this and
the refineries are not repaired 10 years from now.
There is need for a healthy relationship between the Government and the people.
The relationship between the Government and the people is that of
Master and servant. I can cheat you at any time and there is nothing you can do about it.
The mentality of our leaders is horrible.
Why cant they even diversify from petrol?

This man is very intelligent and smart. A poor man earning N30,000 monthly minimum wage will find it very easier to move around when cost of transport goes up as a result of subsidy removal. Eranko!!

1.Let's start by saying that all the three main candidates support subsidy removal...even Atiku that four years ago was arguing for an expansion of the subsidy programme. Something's up when that happens.

2.At face glance, keeping subsidy 'helps' the poor. It makes things cheaper certainly (if subsidy went for example, it would cost me about N20000 per week in fuel costs. Yeepa.!)

3.The problem arises from how we pay for it.

a) Nigeria earns money from crude oil. The problem with crude oil is that basically it has to be above $100 per barrel for it to make sense for us economically. In the last 20 years, it has been above that for only seven of those years, which means we have to take loans a lot.

b) NNPC brings in fuel at N510 per liter, and sells it at N148 to the depot. The depot then sells to marketers...who sellit at N179. But as you can see....NNPC brings in fuel at N510.

That means NNPC is selling fuel at a loss basically. To keep NNPC from falling into bits...government pays them a large part of the subsidy money. If government had not been doing that, they would collapse. And it is getting more difficult.

The problem with NNPC is that no matter what they do, they have no control over international oil prices, or the cost of producing fuel. When we had refineries, we just simply pretended that they could run like eternal machines without need for much replacement...the result was that we went from 4 refineries in 1989 to zero by 2019.

Also, when NNPC is losing money yet free money comes in from government...that's a lot of incentive to steal and to loot. (A company that posts losses would be cutting costs and looking for money).

Either way, as production costs rise...so also does subsidy costs....which means that government has to start dipping into the parts of the budget for things like education, health, defence, transport, etc...to pay for subsidy.

This causes something called a deficit....which leads to government taking loans and lots of loans to cover that deficit....which in addiiton to the loans we have to take because of fluctuant oil prices...means that the debt profile is bad. (It is even worse for countries like Iran that have subsidized fuel, working refineries, and a debt of 431bn dollars. Compared to our own of 98bn )

Guess who pays the loans off....the same poor people you are defensive off.

Like I always say...we will pay the full market price for fuel...either at the pump, or at World Bank HQ and IMF HQ and People's Bank of China HQ in the future.

Tinubu is our man but I will want him to look into the issue of subsidy very well. He said " subsidy favour the richies than the poor" but he did not mention how it favour them than poor .

What all the presidential aspirants are thinking thatade them said they would remove subsidy is that ,they would have enough money to run their government. They failed to realise that

2People are corrupt in this nation. If they removed subsidy with this system of Government, it will just be like collecting money from poor and gave it to some rich men to share

2 We are the owner of this crude oil. Why do we have to buy with high price what God gave to us fee of charge. There are other countries who do not have crude oil and in need of it . They should be the one paying subsidy to easy the daily need of their people that need it. What Nigeria Government should do is to look at what they can do to cust of production on crude oil like make sure the country have his own refinery not the one that belongs to a single person but the country refinery so that they can produce it in low cost

3 They should know that all the economy of this nation hang on this crude oil. Agriculture, businesses, company all hang around fuel . If fuel is cheaper all other things include food stuff must cheap. Food is number one item that country needs after it is good health services. All these wou be cheap if the fuel is cheap.

Our government should know this ,no amount of money they gather can reach all masses like subsidy paid on fuel because no one in this country can do without using fuel. If you don't have car and you are border Car and pay small transpot fare you have benefited from subsidy. If you buy food stuff in the marked with a cheap price due to low transportation cost that the marketer were able to get their goods to final consumer you have benefited from subsidy. If companies and pharmaceutical companies products were cheap because of cheap cost of moving their material from within the country and the money spent on dessel are small. The citizens would be able to get drugs and other products that would make life easy in cheap price too but if our government do not see this but thinking of how focus on gathering the money to do things let them look at other aspects apart from crude oil or fuel. This is a country. There are many way government can generate money that the citizens would not even know that such amount are getting from them but of fuel it would certainly collapse economic of the nation. The crude oil is a free gift of God to us . It should be the country without it that surprise to pay high prices on it not we that God blessed with it

1.If you were selling bread at N1000 after buying it from baker at N700...would you agree to government ORDERING you to sell the same bread at N200 to help the poor, meaning you lose N500 everytime you sell a loaf?

2.It costs a lot of money to bring crude from the ground, for sale. All the equipment we use is made oversea. Then workers who bring the crude want to be paid according to world standard...or they jakpa. And so forth.

Reducing crude prices...is a nice way of making it difficult to bring out the crude. No profits means that the guys cannot buy equipment, repair equipment or upgrade, or pay improvied salaries. At the end of the day, people would stop bringing crude out if they could not make a profit doing so.

Just as you would stop selling bread.

For now, government is allowing Dangote to pay for crude in naira...crude sourced in country.

THings cost money.

3 They should know that all the economy of this nation hang on this crude oil. Agriculture, businesses, company all hang around fuel . If fuel is cheaper all other things include food stuff must cheap. Food is number one item that country needs after it is good health services. All these wou be cheap if the fuel is cheap.

And it costs money to make that crude cheaper.

We make fuel cheap by forcing NNPC to sell it at a loss. To prevent NNPC from collapsing..we pay them a large amount of money called subsidy. (part of it).

But the thing is, it costs money to refine one liter of petrol...and costs rise as time goes on. So that means that government spends more and more on subsidy...which means that deficits happen...which means that more LOANS have to be taken.

Which will affect us.

Countires with subsides don't subsidise everyone, and tax everyone to pay for the thing. At high rates.

Our government should know this ,no amount of money they gather can reach all masses like subsidy paid on fuel because no one in this country can do without using fuel. Tinubu shamelessly protested against the removal of fuel subsidy which Peter Obi advised during Jonathan regime. Tinubu is an economic dunce.

This was the fool who organised a protest with his party when Jonathan removed the subsidy he's currently yapping about....

It's now he realizes that he was an idiot back then... or is he a hypocrite now

Tinubu should be in old people's home chanting Bulabu balaba and not Aso Rock

Recently I was asked about fuel subsidy removal, and I said I will ensure we end the wastage and re-channel the money to the people who truly need it. This is one position that almost all the candidates are united about. We all agreed that the subsidy regime is abused and it favours the rich more than the poor. It has to go.

Mr. Tinubu you knew all these but you fought Jonathan government with everything be it media houses, Agboro... you Tinubu personally made Jonathan from the south south lost 2015 election to buhari.

God bless you bro . May this evil (Muslim- Muslim ticket) not happen to Nigeria.
