Under-age omo-odo should be banned in Nigeria. It's child abuse to involve a 14 year old in this knd of job. She should be in school. |

pawa4ul: Shut up man. You hvnt made any sense here, . . . . You are just gratifying the act just because your family has been abusing it. Yes!! It's a common practice here in Nigeria but that doesn't make it right. If it was a way of reaching unto the less privileged, why don't you pick up your close less privileged relative or better still your sister to employ and make her life more better? There are billions ways of reaching unto others but child slavery disguised as omo-odo is not one of them. You can also anyone into school without keeping he/she in your house to do your shores. |

[b]@Da doctor and Pinkrex, I think you guys are deranged. The issue here is that you see what I wrote as impossible huh. Ok, tell me what is wrong in bringing someone from a very remote village who has no parents stay with you and get some form of education. I bet I have done better than you both. Impact some lives around you! It is wrong when you make them the work machine in the house. Now tell me: would you not make your 14yr old child do some work if you have one? It is the same application here. |

I really do not understand what the insults and accusations are all about. House helps/ omo odos are generally used in Naija,. you people should stop pretending and fronting on a faceless forum, people who can afford it use these helps, infact i am beginning to see organizations that solely deal with these house-help things and they receive their monthly pay. No body should blame the poster for having a house help, you men are opening your mouths and typing 'ridiculous things' as if you help your wives back home with the house chores. The whole idea of having a help is that, one good turn should deserve another, not just using the girls and throwing them away like a piece of trash, but helping them too to be somebody in life. Do you think that the parents are happy that their kids are helping others, no!!! (though some, do not give a damn oooo, as long as they have their beer and pepper soup). Na money, infact the lack of it, is causing all these palava. @ Poster, if you are doing all you said you are doing for this girl, then God bless you, and more power to your elbow, how many people can do it,? they are all here preaching the bible, majority of them are fake and liars. |

Having a househelp is a way of helping out poor parents right? The lady did not say she maltreats her help, so why the attack on her? Just wondering though. . . With all the modern gadgets, why use a househelp? You have your pressure cooker, microwave, vaccum, dishwasher, washing machines etc We Nigerians are a lazy lot. |

I also think that you do not have the mind of helping anybody so you hide under the cloak of terming it ''Lazy.'' We always say these mordern women, we should also remember that our mothers had their siblings around to help them out in certian house chores as the case may be. |

pawa4ul: Deranged? Looolz! No! You have damaged a life. You just told us she went to school but I'm sure she was never got pardoned, scolded, advised or trained like you would to your siblings or offsprings. It's a fact, we all know how it feels except you wanna keep lying to your self. You don't have an idea of the psychological torture growing up as a maid or house help. Children are not meant for such jobs and privileges as you may call it. Fine, you sent her to school but you hvnt given her the best life. . . . . . . Why didn't you send her parents money to send her to school or send her to a boarding school if you had so much love to impact lives? It's obvious, you needed help and you just covered the inhuman help by disguising it with education. , . . Which I bet she wont have the time to even study well cos ofmthe shores. Please try to sound matured in your next response |

Da Doctor: Da doctor, you mind your language, thank God for you, at least you help your wife, how about those that do not, especially for those that are pregnant and heavy, don't they need some kind of help, In America, life is easier, we have light 24/7, water, good roads, for the fact that we do not have to fetch water, sit down and wash pile of clothes is a big help if you don't know. When Nigeria, becomes better, naturally everything would fall into place, there is no need preaching what you cannot do. |

pawa4ul: If she isnt a full time housewife why don't she hire a matured maid or nanny if her love for money and lazy ass can't raise the kids in her own way? Are you thinking from your brain? The state of the economy is worst but the poster doesn't sou d like someone poor or hungry. . . , . She could pay for a matured maid or are they extinct? We shouldn't let what we can manage or avoid affect our fundamentals sometimes. Some irrational women barely cook for their hubby or even take care of their kids lately cos of work work work, , , I know of a family that their kids barely knows the mother well, only the house help can carry or touch the child because of the parental distance. You'll hear the kids vomitting all the gibberishes they must have learnt from the poorly schooled maid out of the parents negligence. |

Ode poster, God will punish you for not educating her. Your punishment will double for every lie you have posted against the poor house-servant. God will punish the parents who love their own children and maltreat their house girls and house boys. It is your duty and responsibility to educate your housemaid or house boy. May God treat your children as you treat your servants. And no matter who you are, if you want to take me on, DON'T HIDE BEHIND A USERNAME LIKE A COWARD, DO SO WITH YOUR FULL IDENTITY. Most of you who come on Nairaland and other black forums to post nonsense don't even have the balls to do so on Cosmopolitan forums and the black smelling Nigerian big men and big women in particular are second class citizens in the US and the UK and cannot even be invited into the high class in the US and the UK. So, you look for the poor children of your fellow blacks to use as servants you even spend less to feed and clothe than your dogs. But many of you are non-entities in the US and the UK and cannot even have the intellect to interact with the civilized people of this world. Majority of you cannot even contribute much to the nation building of Nigeria. You are the curses plaguing Nigeria. Shio! |

Ronke you don't get the argument, we had people living with us back in the day quite alright but that is not the issue, the problem is her coming here to ridicule the 14 year old. You are a mother, no mother would love to see her child made fun of and laughed at like this. BTW I don't believe all that list she presented above. That's all trash |
Re: Is Your Ọmọ-ọ̀dọ̀ (House Girl) More Su Ẹ̀gbẹ̀ Than Mine? Prove It by Nobody: 3:44pm On Oct 19, 2011 |
@ da doctor, how can u say lazy women take in maids?, are we machines, mschew? We need little assistance in doing some domestic work, as some of us go to work even on saturdays. What we are saying here is that if one needs to take in a maid, we shouldn't take a child, how can a child take care of children when their parents are away?. We should take a nanny or baby sitter who will do her job happily. All these nannies can not be mal treated, they are not Kids and most of them have kids of their own, to them its their job. Don't know if I'm communicating my mind well. I'm using a phone jor. For me, I love children: I hate to see children selling on the street. My husband knows . I can buy up all d groundnut from a child hawker |

pinkrex: There are, but who wants to use them, i can do all the chores without extra help, only once in awhile, when am really overwhelmed and tired that i use their services, That is the level of advancement in America, that is why i said if or when Nigeria attains that level, everything would fall into place, things would automatically change. |
