Many questions:

1.
Mr./Mrs. Blogger and AGN, what exactly is Adamma's offense in this case? Be specific.

2.
AGN, how does suspension of shooting along riverines mean the prevention of further boat mishaps? How does your suspension help those whose daily survival depends on boat transportation? Or, are you saying you don't care about Nigerians who do not belong to your production crews? Making life jackets compulsory for boat journeys is more effective than your suspension. I know you are not the government. But the right thing for you to do it to call on both the government and the public to improve transport systems.

3.
Is suspending movie shooting along riverines better than making safety measures compulsory for such shootings? So, a movie producer that offers standard transport systems to his or her crew members should not go on with his or her production? Don't you sound unwise here?

4.
How was the body of Junior Pope recovered from the river but the other victims are still missing? Was it just by a chance or was there a preferential treatment in the rescue attempt?

All sound like questions from a primary 5 pulpil. The AGN actions are commendable. Must you counter everything ?

Again we are always taking the wrong approach when the wrong has already been done.
Chai my dear country.... it's saddening to witness the avoidable loss of lives in our country. Clearly, there's much to address both within the government and among the populace, as well as in our civil standards.

If we, as individuals, are educated and proficient in CPR, situations like the one we're lamenting might have had a different outcome. It's imperative to introduce CPR education in schools and workplaces.

Furthermore, it should be mandatory for companies operating boats to provide life jackets for their passengers. Additionally, all public spaces like markets, train stations, ports, and airports should have defibrillators accessible to the public, located conveniently within these facilities.

Above all, we must enhance our emergency services and healthcare delivery system to prevent such tragedies from occurring in the future.

May the souls of the departed rest in peace.

But was she in charge of their safety too?

She was in charge of everything as the producer. The producer is the contractor. The owner of the job. She was in charge and should have supervised accordingly. There definitely was carelessness somewhere or nonchalance to put it that way. River Niger is not such that you travel on carelessly.

Very sad indeed. Very sad.

Stupid absumption. Is suspending camping in riverine areas the solution or to enforce the use of some measures before embarking on such journey.

Is Nollywood not big enough to have a well equipped boats, well furnished for such occasion? So that who ever want to cross it's crew will hire it.

Make nollywood get boat 😂 which kind mumu comment be dis, so if dey need boat in lagos or anywhere else dey will just go and carry d boat abi from PH

What happen to transportation companies......even super Eagles use lag ferry from lagos to play match in Benin republic......dis things happen every day, state govt with riverine areas should invest in water transportation like lagos state and mandate all private boat owners to provide life jacket for their passengers

the message they should be passing as actors now is people should take safety seriously ,whatever situation you find yourself safety should come first but most are interested in taking pictures or making videos that they want to go post on social media .Also the actors should be encouraged on how to use their social media accounts correctly by drawing the attention of necessary authorities to ugly situations like this .We joke alot with safety in this country

Typical mentality of the average Nigerian. Always looking for ways to cut cost and maximize profit. Not minding if such action would cost people their lives.

So you guys have the powers to ban a location, a natural location from featuring in a movie set?

Armature, irrelevant unknown movie actors like you people are a sad joke to reality.

So lifejacket isn't compulsory or part of a safety measure in your guidelines.

Oh, and the film is put off indefinitely?

Irrelevant idiots

As sad as this situation is, we must acknowledge that, not even the most preliminary of safety measures were employed in executing the boat trip(s). Not even life jackets were provided and enforced. This calls for alot of questions for the Jetty Management, Marine Security, Anambra State Ministry of Transportation, and by extension, the Anambra State Government. We must wake up to responsibilities. There has to be standards and strict regulations set, and dutifully enforced.

We can't continue to allow these kinds of negligence to occur. I worked in the coastal area of Bonny Island for many years, where the water body is way massive. I recall Navy operatives inspecting each boat taking off and berthing, to ensure that passengers had their life jackets on, and also that the boats were not overloaded. This is not to say the boat mishaps do not occur in Bonny Island, and other coastal areas, but the situation has greatly improved. We are all aware that accidents of this nature are bound to happen, irrespective of measures. However, seeing this situation where hard working, young people are being, carelessly, conveyed across such river without life jackets is saddening. It doesn't make us come off as a people that attach any form of value to human life.

It reminds me of Wigwe's death. The negligence of not cancelling the flight despite the glaring terrible weather, caused avoidable deaths.

I know that Adamma should have provided standard transport systems for her team. But there are two facts here. One, other producers have previously and repeatedly used the method Adamma used, meaning that the AGN was never proactive. Two, aren't the crew members old enough to insist on getting life jackets for the boat journey? Security requires collective efforts but the protection of your life begins with you.

The day I entered a boat, the skippers were careless. They had life jackets but asserted that I and my friends were safe without the jackets. This was in Lake Victoria oh (probably the deepest or biggest lake in Africa)! I and my friends insisted on wearing the jackets. At the middle of the journey, the boat started leaking. But no mishap. The point is that accident can happen but your safety begins with you.
The producer has a lot to answer for. As the head of the film she ought to have planned nfor the safety protocols during the shoot. She could have employed safety officers to advise her on safety protocols. Common sense should have told her there could be boat mishap and ready with an ambulance in case it happens. Divers could have been in another boat nearby . She could have had an expert who would review with the actors what to do in case of an emergency. She has a lot to answer to.

This move is a little overboard if you ask me. Why give an indefinite suspension to all movie sets within riverine areas? Why not enforce rules that would mandate the strict use of water safety equipment and body wear?
they need to appease the water goddess first, they are angry, they had given several warnings but the Nollywood industry didn't listen.

What about those boat operators who didn't/don't value life. They should be prosecuted for wasting precious lives. They are tte ones expected to provide and insist on use of life jackets

Those operators would most likely escape death from the boat misap.

The bottom line in all this is the absence of governance and gov’ts cavalier attitude to health and safety!

Nigerians are carefree in attitude and lifestyle.
The Nollywood is not a serious body. They don't censor the activities of their members.
How do you enter a speed boat without a lifejacket? Even if a gun is pointed to my head, I won't enter a boat without a lifejacket.
Whether we like it or not, there are supernatural powers that control the waters and lands.
Do these movie producers do the necessary or needed things before embarking on their project?
This world is filled with mystical powers, so it is either you are holding on to God or to other gods.
The reasons for the various misfortunes bedeviling the Nollywood body is simply because they are not doing the needful.

Why ban her......its not her job to enforce safety on waterways transport, Anambra State Ministry of Transportation is capable cos in Lagos State is mandatory that waterways transporter must ensure passengers use life jackets and they are routinely checked. The decision is premature.

Let's give it to Lagos State for their proactiveness.

I don't know why the AGN are the ones fighting themselves. The things that ought to be done at this moment is to meet the state governor of Delta and plead for Life Jackets for all boat users in the riverine areas of the estate, including Anambra State Governor. The should request that the both State should establish a security presence and transport system withinthe waterways of the River Niger. This is what the commissioners of transport of both states should take up. A safe water transport system (not to collapse the one on ground but to provide them with supervision etc). Jnr. Pope would still be alive if not for poor medical system as the oxygen facility if the first hospital failed when they took him there and had to refer him to another hospital, thereby loosing time. That is why we call daily for a New Nigeria where budgets will be used properlyto provide for adequate Health care etc.
