Depends on what you mean by failure. If you expect every player in the academy to move into the first team then you know little about how academies are run.

Arsenal academy like all other academies aim to provide players not just for the Arsenal first team but for other teams too. In the past few years, we have had Wilshere, Szczesny, Gibbs, Ashley Cole, Nicholas Bendtner, Steven Sidwell, Carlos Vela, Jeremie Aliadiere, Djorou, David Bentley, Senderos, and many others pass through the Arsenal academy and gone on to establish first team positions at Arsenal and other clubs. If you call this failure, I wonder what qualifies as success?

Many of the players leaving now will go on to make a name for themselves at other clubs.
Well ambition is relative sha that's why some clubs see 4th as a trophy and others set out to conquer their league and the continent as well! When has your academy that has been in gestation for over a decade produced 4-5 players in your starting XI? Just look at the assortment of bums Wenger has assembled! Djourou,Aliadiere,Sidwell,Senderos,Bendtner,Bentley,Vela,Szczesny,Gibbs! Which of these players have gone on to make their names anywhere or at Arsenal?
Its a disgrace that after running an academy for over a decade Ashley Cole is the only world-class player you lot have produced (I can dash you Fabregas sef) that's 2 players in over a decade!

Dgunnerz: I believe the appointed time for Arsenal to reach the final once again and deliver the title is near.As an Arsenal fan,I keep my calm and support Arsene#
No more selling of Stars.
Is there any star left to sell? Maybe Walcott and Cazorla next season

proudlysports: For those who follow the youth squad, seems like there will be a massive clearout this summer. Players leaving include:

Charles-Cook (GK)
Angha
Jordan Wynter
Conor Henderson (one player who almost made his breakthrough into the first team but was short lived by a long term injury)
Samir Bihountine
Nigel Neita
Sanchez Watt
Craig Eastmond
Ebecilio
Jernade Meade

I hear Shea will also leave and that's one that I don't get. IMO, he's way better than Martinez.
I guess the clear out is to pave way for new youth players. I assume Sanogo will play in the youth team for about a season.

JeSoul: This statement is actually not a praise of the NY Knickerboxers, but rather a sharp indictment of the poor offensive capabilities of eastern conference teams. Chai! east coast has suffered cheesy
Loool really the Heat have too many weapons offensively to rely on just defense to beat them! What are the odds of Lebron,Wade,Bosh,Allen,Chalmers all having a bad night for 4 games in a series?

JeSoul: I would actually go with the Pacers over the Knicks as "capable of beating Miami". NY just don't have the physicality to match up. Na so so 3pters and jacked up shots late in the shot clock. Chandler is a force in the paint, but he alone cannot stop the penetration of Heat forwards. Pacers at least have shown some history vs. Miami that they can get down and grind. But alas the Pacers are sketchy...as they showed vs. Atlanta in round 1. Still too young & immature to beat an experienced squad like Miami over 7 games.
NY have depth! They have been quite underwhelming this post season with Melo and JR trying to rebuild the World Trade Center with those bricks and the role players just doing nothing! There would be games you have to outscore this Heat team I just dunno if Indy would be able to do that! Indy just might win this series tho but I doubt they can get past the Heat

JeSoul: Damn...when will this yeye east get some diversity like the west?
Lool you know the westside is the best side grin grin

I'm sure tonight's Madrid derby reminded the boys not to be complacent

Freiburg vs Schalke has to be the match of the weekend! More or less a 4th place playoff with Schalke needing at least a draw! They probably have to also worry about Eintracht Frankfurt as well

occam: Seriously who cares about this series? Given the atrocious shooting by both teams, the games are so painful to watch. In any case, who ever wins will be scorched by the Heat in 4 or 5 games.

All eyes should be on the Griz-Spurs match up. An intriguing series awaits us with both teams peaking at the right time. I tip my hat for the Grizzles in 6 or 7 games. Also, I believe the Grizs is the only team left that can outlast the Heat
Lool I expected a slugfest anyway I just didn't expect Melo and JR to shoot so poorly! I think the Heat are the only team that has moved the ball decently in the entire East! The Knicks to me are still the only team that can match the offensive firepower of Miami! They just need to select their shots better tho I don't know if they can fix that at this point. This Miami team can be beat! The short-handed Bulls showed that

I think that series is a toss up men! The Spurs are deeper so they have the edge but Memphis has beaten them before so I wouldn't write em off either
Sports › Re: The NBA Begins by A40(m): 2:16pm On May 17, 2013
In the end inexperience cost the Warriors! It was a good run tho they just couldn't get stops when it mattered most

Western Finals are set then! Spurs vs Grizzlies

The Knicks hang on but can they steal a game in Indy? Especially with Melo and JR shooting so poorly all series long?

debosky: How did you reach the conclusion that he was given no credit? Did aliens or Arsenal fans vote him player of the month 3 times (second only to Cazorla) in this current season? Did he get a contract from Mars or from Arsenal FC to become the highest paid player at the club?
From you and your goons here I mean!

Una for no give am contract na! Shebi e go just leave una free of charge

debosky: I don’t know why you like creating strawmen arguments - who said he is the first to do so? huh
Then what's so exceptional about it? Especially as Cazorla is a seasoned vet

debosky: Mata shined yes, and that’s why he was player of the season last year, just like Cazorla is going to be this year for The Arsenal. And with regards to Walcott, I don’t recall him leading Arsenal to a trophy either, so dump the offpoint comments.
So since neither achievement is exceptional what really is your point?

debosky: I asked in my very first post and assumed nothing - or did your eyes fail to see the question marks? Let me re-quote in case you missed it:

Are those not questions? cheesy
Hahahaha don't even try and play smart you asked a rhetorical question focusing on limited subject matter! That's assumption enough!

debosky: Stop trying to re-write history. Give me just one quote where Walcott misyarned. Adebayor on the other hand said ‘pay me like Henry’, compared himself to Beyonce and - most tellingly - his output dropped on the pitch because he wanted more money.
Theo’s message was ALWAYS consistent - I want to stay at this club, and his output did not dip while the negotiations were on. All he said is that he wanted to play in a given position - something even Poldi has said without any witchhunt so spare me the revisionist accounts.
"And Walcott didn't even misyarn like any of them"
Obviously this nigga can't even read let alone make an argument

debosky: I am not obfuscating anything - the fact is, Cazorla’s delivery has been exceptional, particularly in a debut season. Besides, aren’t you one of Ibime’s sycophants that nods head like Agama Lizard to anything he says? I can bring up quotes from the Chelski thread if you want. grin
See how you are just dumbing down to be on the right side of an argument! I dare you to show one quote where I criticized the signing of Cazorla! On the contrary I was one of those that lauded the signings of Cazorla because I had seen him work at Villareal and Malaga! You think everyone has a one-track mind like you?

debosky: Neither is it beans cake aka moin moin to contribute 29 goals to your team in a debut season as a midfielder. The latter is more exceptional than the former.
Story! All I know is Walcott has scored more goals and provided more assists with faaaar less playing time

Lol OKC's dreams tore up with Russ Westbrook's knee! Not that they coulda beaten the Heat anyway cos they just don't match up well with them! They really need to do sumn about Perkins dude is an offensive bum and his defence is not what it used to be they would do well to pick up Blatche from the Nets if they still have cap room

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by A40(m): 1:13pm On May 16, 2013
debosky: How am I making Walcott look bad? I said he’s delivered what is expected of the highest paid player at the club, and one of the longest serving ones at that.
He has delivered what is expected! No credit at all! No acknowledgement that he has been your most productive player this season even when the stats clearly show thus

debosky: Get it right - it’s £100k. Cazorla’s feat is exceptional considering the factors I described earlier - debut season in a new league and a rebuilt team.
Nansense! Cazorla is not the first player to come and shine in a new league. Off the top of my head I can remember Aguero,Michu,Mata,Vermaelen,Papiss Cisse all dominated in their first season some even led their teams to trophies which your Cazorla didn't so take a \_____

debosky: I am asking you what you mean by ‘sentiments’ that term is used quite loosely by many people. Holding out for a new deal didn’t turn fans against Walcott - those fans were already ambivalent towards him before any deal discussions started. Even if it did, he remains an Arsenal player and all is forgiven.
You are just asking now! Previously you assumed and limited it to a player's nationality and the nationality of the club so what is the megedefegede you are chatting about?
Holding out for a new deal is one of the gravest sins any player can commit you of all people should know that! Adebayor went from hero to villain same as Rooney and Walcott didn't even misyarn like any of them

debosky: Is it an excuse or a fact? Did Cazorla play at CF or as a winger? Were you deaf when Ibime came here saying Santi wouldn’t even contribute 20 goals all season?
Why are you obfuscating the issue? Are you blind? Am I Ibime or why are you referring Ibime's statements to me? Did I say Cazorla wouldn't contribute 20 goals all season

I don't care if you are a CF or winger contributing 35 goals to your team is not beans! Mind you he has only started 30 games

debosky: Maybe you don’t understand - that fact is not in dispute. However, that achievement in itself is not sufficient to make him player of the season - Cazorla is that player in my opinion, based on what I’ve said previously.
Your opinion men!

debosky: Can you show me how I made it seem so? I said I consider him the most consistent, and other Arsenal fans have expressed the same view.
You can consider him consistent without making Walcott look bad!
With Cazorla its exceptional with Walcott its expected just because una manage increase salary to 90k

debosky: What does 'sentiments' mean in this context? Is Santi English? Is he homegrown? Just what is the source of this so called sentiments?
Are you serious? You mean Walcott holding out for a new deal and insisting on playing at CF did not turn certain fans against him! Or is there a rule that says a player must come from England before English fans become sentimental about them?

debosky: Santi and Walcott play different positions - you cannot expect their output to be equivalent in terms of statistics. This is elementary.
Lool Walcott can't win in your eyes! Even after besting him in goals (Walcott's constituency) and assists (Cazorla's constituency) playing fewer minutes you still find an excuse!
All I know is Walcott has contributed a whopping 35 goals to your cause this season and if there is anyone at your club that matches that bring em out!

Because you made it seem like Santi did not suffer a dip in form like any other player?

debosky: Everyone goes through a drought - no one's denying that.

I do not deny productivity, but that is simply one factor in assessing who Arsenal fans will consider as the Arsenal player of the season.
Fans would vote based on sentiments! The stats are there for all to see! Walcott has outscored and out-assisted Cazorla and he did it with less playing time
