nateevs: I am so sorry but are you suggesting that for 2 years, he's been evading his markers, tepid, timid, and running into blind alleys? An accomplished goal scorer who terrified the best of defences? Someone who scored against Chelsea every single time he played against them? A Chelsea back line that was one of the best back in the days JM and beyond, suddenly found no space but blind alleys to run into? Hehehe. Wonders shall not end.
Maybe you need to send him back to Liverpool so he can continue scoring against yall!
I've always felt Torres was a tad overrated anyway. Certainly not as good as El Guaje but that's besides the point! And you ninjas have not answered my question? Which of Torres's goals where laid for him on a plate? Plus the snapshot that Mata profited from?
was there an increase in 'service'

nateevs: Taking penalties has stopped being the striker's responsibility for as long as I know it. Suddenly you want to blame Torres for not fighting the pack and claiming pens. Anything to blame Torres.
When Torres stepped up to take the spot-kick. Did Mata,Luiz,Hazard or anyone come to challenge him?
If he indicates willingness to take pens he would be obliged. A closed mouth don't get fed!

nateevs: Look! It's easy to slag off anyone. Talk is very cheap. If Torres' tipid performances are as frequent as the rising sun and the nights, it shouldn't take a lot of work to prove.
13 goals in 62 league games. You where saying??

nateevs: This has been repeated so many times now it has become boring. Not one single one of you has ever provided proof of this. The shocking thing is, if it indeed does happen as many times as you claim, it's easy to prove.

Unless you can prove it, this reason you cling on to is a myth.
Proof that Torres has been finding trouble evading his markers, tepid, timid, running into blind alleys and generally underperforming since arriving at Chelsea.
Why don't you ask me to prove why the sun rises in the East and sets in the West?
I wonder which of Torres's goals today was laid on a plate for him? Did he score today because the 'service' suddenly improved? Or did he seize the initiative by arriving on time for crosses? Taking responsibility from the penalty spot. And actually doing what I would expect from Falcao or Cavani for Mata's goal?

Roland17: And that was the 2008-2009 season when they got to the finals against the Lakers, but were able to win only one finals game because they were only a streaky shooting team without any alternatives and over the years they have remained that way and i do not need to tell u how poor they are doing.
But they got to the Finals regardless. I think calling these Knicks team a flat out 3pt shooting team is being economical with the truth. They are much better defensively as well

Roland17: OKC is another team with better shooters but the difference is they posses clutch players who can take over the game and also defend better,
What shooters?? Take out Durant and they really don't have much by way of outside shooting! Why did they lose the Finals? One of the reasons was they lacked guys that could space the floor

Roland17: Melo out of the roaster, who is the go to guy in the Knicks, what other strategy do they have? do they even play any sort of defense?
They beat the Heat in Miami without Melo! No Amare either! Who was the go to guy there?
They don't play any sort of defense but they've allowed fewer PPG than the Heat,Celtics,Thunder,Spurs,Lakers e.t.c

Roland17: shooting jumpers and three's can take u as far as the defense for a ring, you made mention of Felton, he's obviously improved this year, but with his turn over rates would u place a bet on him? they have a deeper bench this season, but i still do not see them as a potent threat.
So long as there is variety shooting 3's and jumpers would take you very far!! The Heat had guys like Battier,Cole,Miller,Jones knocking it from downtown in last season's final. They went out and got Ray Allen and Rashard Lewis this season I wonder if they where acquired for their defensive skills grin grin

Felton is an upgrade on Lin thus far that's all I know

I'm not saying the Knicks would win it all but they are looking like a threat in a very weak East conference

BlueDiva: Torres has scored 4 in 2 games.
Now what has changed? Nothing has.

Mata and Hazard have always passed the ball to Torres, it didn't start this week.
Torres has had some fortune this week by getting a rebound and connecting to a cross.
He even developed some self confidence and took a penalty.

The issue has always been Torres and not the team.
Perhaps he has made up his mind to develop some confidence and some can-do attitude.

The issue is that Torres is his own problem, not the team nor the manager.
Only him can decide to be a dud or a world class player.
Ogula!! You really summed up what I wanted to say today!
Which of Torres's goals was the quintessential iso play with the last defender?? He damn near got a hat-trick by doing what he has negated all season which is attacking the ball and not catwalking and running into blind alleys and defenders
The Mata goal was sumn I would expect from Falcao grin grin
Had the balls to actually take a spot-kick. I didn't even see that coming I was going to ask why he ran away from it against Nordsjaelland but his two goals made me forget the matter
If Torres keeps this up I'm sure fans would get off his back

By the way let's not get ahead of ourselves here a certain chap called Michu is on 12 goals

He can be sometimes.

Hard-fought win! Had a wedding so I missed the game I didn't expect anything less tho. I do hope that after Robben comes back Tommy Muller remains our designated PK taker. He has that poise and seems the man for such occasions
Dortmund,Schalke lose so Leverkussen is more or less the last team in the way! Both teams would be fresh from Europa Cup exertions so there's no telling how this game could go. Hopefully a draw would be just fine

Roland17: Oooo come on Man, are u really serious about this Knick thinghuh they are a shooting team, they live and die by 3 points with a huge turn over ratio, they do not play any form of defense, their defenders foul out before the end of the 4th quarter, those shots would not fall every day and i still maintain my stance about them being a first round, at best second round post season team.
Am not buying that circus...
You can't win the NBA title without being a decent shooting team. Orlando got to the Finals and the Eastern Conference Finals the next year on the back of their shooting
They have depth!!! They've beaten the Heat by 20 pts twice!! Missing their best two players on one occasion
When you have 5 players shooting at 40% or more from beyond the arc you are a problem oh! Woulda been 6 Felton is at 39%
The East is at its weakest and if the Knicks play to their potential they should be thinking Conference Finals at least. Bulls are hopeless without Rose,Nets aint ready,Celts washed up (for now at least)

What a rush seeing two maestros go at it last night. If only Kobe had a dynamic partner like Westbrook!

The Rockets must be having a serious case of buyers remorse with Lin stinking up their joint

Seriously this Knicks roster is so weird. They've got the 4 of leagues' oldest player (Kidd, Wallace, Camby & Thomas), 3 players with rings and 2 top players (Amare & Anthony) chasing their first ring.

Still early days yet so I'll wait until after the all star break for a better sense on this team. But that game last night? wow! what can I say

A bit of luck and a bit of common sense IMO I think Lin's injury towards the end of the season was key if he was healthy and provided a solid performance in the post-season may be he woulda gotten the money he wanted but since he wasn't it would have been unwise to offer a player 25milli for 3yrs on the back of a dozen or so regular season games. Felton has been a top-notch replacement however

occam: Seriously this Knicks roster is so weird. They've got the 4 of leagues' oldest player (Kidd, Wallace, Camby & Thomas), 3 players with rings and 2 top players (Amare & Anthony) chasing their first ring.

pshooters and Ronnie Brewer is a very good defender.

Early days I agree but It would also be interesting to see how well Melo and Amare mesh together I still think they have to find a way to be one of the league's best 1-2 punches they certainly have the tools
I look around the East the Bulls have regressed,Celts are so-so and the Nets aren't ready yet. You really have to think the Knicks are the last line of defence against the Heat dominating that conference

Yet Andre Miller, who i believe was in that same draft along with Jason Terry are still key contributors in the league.

I remember telling a ninja on this thread that the Knicks may be on to something. This is the 2nd beatdown they are handing the Heat already this season this time in Miami sans Melo sans Stoudemire! The first game sans Stoudemire
I think one of the best decisions they made in a long time was not falling for the Linsanity hype.
Felton has been a massive upgrade so far.
At a point they need to look at themselves and realize they are better than getting slapped around by the Heat and Celts. Cos they have the talent and the depth and Mike Woodson is a very good coach

Roland17: Yoo, come on man, reading guys disrespect Gasol all of a sudden is very sad, especially LA fans, after Shaq left, would Kobe have won those two rings without Gasol, this kid won the rookie of the year with Memphis and do you mind reminding everyone here who his team mates were while he was in Memphis? although he never won a playoff's game with them, he dropped the points to prove his worth, especially against the spurs in Game 4.
Let's see who was in the Lakers lineup
Smush Parker
Kobe Bryant
Lamar Odom
Bryan Cook
Kwame Brown or Chris Mihm

Gasol had Eddie Jones,Mike Miller,Chucky Atkins,Jason Williams,Damon Stoudamire

And he had zero playoff game wins. ZERO!!

Roland17: Last season, the rumour about the Lakers trading him did not help matters, he was insecure and its the same this season, no post player would flourish under Mike.
He was obviously not performing. Why wouldn't the Lakers want to trade him? Have you forgotten the Mavericks series? Have you seen his hefty contract

Mike wants everyone to become a jump shooter and that includes his big men, the other day Howard attempted a three!!! Gasol has no business shooting jumpers or hanging out in the base line waiting for a chance to hit a three!! hell no, Gasol plays in the box, he's a post player and an intelligent passer of the ball, that has been his bread and butter.

And to watch Mike keep Howard on the court throughout the fourth quarter while he benches Gasol speaks for itself, especially for teams who understand the term Hack-Howard, Howard is a liability in the fourth quarter and its very annoying that he's refused to acknowledge that his poor free throw shooting has cost the Lakers games this season.

Would the Lakers trade Gasol? maybe, if he's traded, would that solve the problem, no way, not even Nash's return would solve the problem.

dayokanu: It depends on who we get in the draw. Normally it doesnt make sense to get to get a defender for just half a season when we are not Mourinhos Chelsea who bought Maniche because Essien was going to miss a match. We already have Boateng, Dante and Badstuber
Well we do not know who we would draw and the transfer window would be open right between now and the 2nd round tie! I actually think we are fortunate because the timing of the injury has given us time to fix it

dayokanu: But What would determine is one the number of games Boateng gets suspended for and who our opponent is.
It was for a reckless tackle straight red! I'm not sure but I think he is going to miss 3 games

dayokanu: if we get a weak team we wouldnt need and can risk Van Buyten and Dante or draft martinez/Gustavo into defence for Celtic, Galatasaray, Arsenal etc
With Van Buyten's dodgy knees I wouldn't bet on him not being injured by then
And playing Martinez at CB just doesn't work for me I know he can play there tho
Tymo would be the better option

dayokanu: But if we get Madrid then we need to have a defender and I dont know which defender would want to come, thats not cup tied and knows we only need him for 4months max.
We could get Lucio grin grin if he isn't cup-tied. All things equal this could be Van Buyten's last season at Bayern anyway so I see it as a way of killing two birds with one stone and we could probably get a long-term replacement for him
Remember guys like Evra,Vidic where bought in the January window. I'm just saying

dayokanu: I don't want to get Madrid at this stage cos even though we would win, The match would be too stressfull while other clubs are getting easy rides into quarters we would be fighting madrid.

Moreover without Boateng i would want an easy opponent Maybe Porto, Arsenal, Galatasaray or Celtic
20th seems really far away tho I'm almost wishing the draw was tomorrow. Don't you think we might need to get a CB by the next transfer window? Really don't know what kind of Cheeba Boateng was smoking that made him make that tackle

What I'm most bothered about is the prospect of Boateng missing the entire 2nd round and potentially the first leg of the quarters. That would leave us with Dante and Van Buyten at CB very risky something
