williams20: Good morning great Farmers. Pls we have 2 concrete ponds about 3000litres each. And we have stocked a thousand fish into both. We feed twice daily with coppens and change water completely every 3-4days. Bt the fishes do hang up sometimes and they have big bellies. Recorded 3 casualties so far. Pls we need more insight.

Obviously, the fish are sick.


You will need to try and get Potassium permanganate(PG) from any Pharmaceutical Stores around your area, after which you are to get salt from any Feed mill (the quantity of salt to get depends on how big your pond is)


Now on to the process, drain the water completely from the pond after which you pump little water on the fish in such a way that it will cover them all.


Get a bucket and mix both the salt and PG together.


Pour the mixture(SALT and PG) into the pond and leave them for about 30 to 40 minutes.


You can then pump fresh water on them. PLEASE, do not feed them for two days to allow them to excrete all the bacteria in their body away. On the third day, change the water and pump fresh water on them, and feed them.


The above is the treatment that I used for treating fish in my concrete pond

robonski15: I fed them with zeigler for the first three months then I switched to vital feed for the rest two month.. With my findings vital feed gives them weight..

Thanks for the info. What kind of pond do you make use of ? Also, don't your fish get sick after a while? How often do you wash your pond during the five month?

If you like you can rant from now till tomorrow but that does not disturb people from drinking it. As I am typing now, am sipping chilled harp at an eatery. When I am angry, I used it to calm my nerves down. Most times, I drink alcohol for fun but atimes annoyance, depression, tiredness are partly those factors militating it although that does not apply to other people. I'm not a drunkard though.

I think depression is one of the factors encouraging people to drink alcohol. Most people do not drink it for fun.

You'll understand that names do have effect on one's life although everything all bores down to the spiritual understanding of everybody. If you think, it does not affect anything then you are free to call your child badluck, thief, scammer, liar etc and be ready to face the consequence. One thing we need to understand again is that our mouth is very powerful and we should use it to profess something positive from time to time.

Of a truth, supply is greater than demand in catfish business at the moment and that has affected a decline in the price of fish. If you come to Ijebu Ode, you will understand where I am coming from. To be candid with you, fish biz is no longer lucrative like before because a lot of people are tropping into it day in, day out. To cap it all, the price of feeds are drastically going up and the profit margin itself is nothing to write home about.

You ought to have asked me if I could buy a land with 100K in Lagos. I would have said no but as it is I'm not in Lagos, I reside in Ogun state. With 100K, u can get a plot of land in some parts in Ogun State but make sure u buy it from the Baale(s) in charge of the communities. I bought one and half plot of land in 2009 for 450K but now I can categorically tell you that they now sell a plot in my area btw 700 to 1m naira. Money today they say is not equal to money tomorrow. Land appreciate alots and it is far better than shares in Nigeria

I think the best thing one can invest on at the moment is landed property. The last time I bought the then incontinental bank now access bank shares, it was all a flop. Don't think I can ever invest on any shares, bond or treasury bills again. I'll rather buy land or at most build a house and rent it out.
