nurey: Also the german cars are better than their jap counter parts and reliability like always say is subjective to user, if you don't abuse german cars, they will never disappoint you cause a lot of precision is taken into account before their vehicles are made. A brand new C-class will out live and be more reliable than a brand new camry or Accord of the same year both interior wise and exterior materials with all things being equal.
The only unreliable manufacturers I can pick for now are FORD and the VW.
Just my own opinion sha
U might be right, but I tend to disagree. A car with a worn out interior and exterior can still take u to ur destination, but a car with faulty electronics might refuse to drive hence u are stuck. A Cadillac's interior is made with the best materials, but even a newbie knows it can refuse to move for no reason while a corresponding Toyota or Honda world hardly get system failure that would make the car undriveable. That is what reliability is all about. Let's not deceive ourselves, the main purpose of a car is the ability to take u from one point to another. Every other thing like the way u are driven, how sporty or how fast it takes u to ur destination, or how much luxury u get while going to ur destination are all secondary. What good is a luxury car when it can't even take u to ur destination?
Germans build their cars with focus on performance and handling, paying little attention to reliability. This is not a Nigerian thing, even in the US those German cars fail a lot and costs a fortune to fix. Even Mercedes themselves expect u to take ur car to the dealership whenever it breaks down and it costs a lot to diagnose and fix.
Research has shown that a Mercedes Benz c class is more likely to visit the repair shop a lot more than a corresponding Honda accord.
auhanson: No matter how reliable it is, those legs scares in naija roads. There is never a day i dont see one accord or aka "EOD" leg pull on our roads. I'm usually scared and asked myself, what if this were to be on a fast lane on the highway?
Also, their gearbox in naija is a case study. My friend change his 2 years ago for a lot more than 250 thousand naira, barely 3 months he bought the car, after consecutive repairs of about 45 thousand naira each, afterwards he started looking for a buyer and sold it for a w202 kompressor Benz before he had peace of mind..I have never repaired my Benz to sum that amount ever since i bought it 3 years ago.
You could drive a benz a whole year without changing a breakpad. if you obey rules of abuse, you could drive the engine of a benz forever. If you use the right fuel or treat your fuel properly, your benz can remain like new for more than a dacade. So , that research has k leg, certain things like poor maintenance culture should have been factored into it. I dont even give a dame about it, i remain with Benz or Beemer
Am I the only one who doesn't experience 'leg pulling' in Honda? Been driving EOD for 3 plus years now, no leg pull whatsoever. I know we improvise a lot in this country, china and Korea parts come in handy especially when OEM parts are so expensive and not readily available. Everyone in some point or the other have found substandard parts handy. But please if u are driving a Honda, don't ever buy substandard ball joints or u will be sorry. U can buy Korea or china brake pads, engine mounts, struts, sapentine belts, linkages, etc, but don't ever buy substandard ball joints. Ball joint pulls is never a problem for Honda in other countries except Nigeria and some other African countries, so Honda doesn't even see it as a fault.
Whoever wrote this piece is an Imbecilee. (No offence to OP)
From his logic changing $20 sensor twice a year for 5 years is the same as changing a $200 alternator ever 5 years
Reliability in engineering is the overall consistency of a product. A QFD analysis would range the importance of each element a product and rank it. Based on the ranking scores are given to know the most essential use of any part of a product. The the important product are given high rank, and least important low rank. The frequent replacement of lowly ranked element doesn't mean unreliable.
Example would you buy a car with yearly door handle fix or a yearly transmission fix?(assuming they cost the same to fix) or radio vs Head lights.
Let me guess, u know more than the people that acrually made a research and put out this piece. U should make ur own research too and write something rather than ranting here. Repair costs and reliability are 2 different things (even though there is a relationship between the 2). This write up is not about repair costs, according to research, Honda costs more to repair than Suzuki, Chevrolet and even Peugeot but Honda is ranked more reliable. Also Renault costs less to repair but it is way below Toyota in reliability ranking.
A reliable car will most likely take u to ur destination even when there's system failure, while a less reliable car will shut down and refuse to even drive on every little system failure. And a reliable car will most likely costs lesser to fix (though this piece is not solely on repair cost. )
lungwun: Everything Toyota makes that has a V6 (sans the trucks) shares that 11 year old V6 engine.
Toyota has been using the same engine developed in 2004-2005 till date.
Hey Toyota, how about creating a new engine? Maybe something with a turbo in it?
Toyota doesn't innovate at all. I remember them using the same 4 speed auto transmission in the corolla up to the 2013 model year.
How wont they be reliable when they keep using old things?
If it ain't broken, don't fix it. I don't see anything wrong in using the same engine for different models. It makes sourcing for parts easier. Honda I VTEC k series was introduced in 2002 and has been used on accords, crv, pilot, element up to 2012. Also Nissan VQ engines have been used from 1994 up till now with little mods to improve mpg and HP.
Readonee35L: Infact i never liked the cross tour neither did i cherish the venza
Becaus thy are actually the same as the camry and accord .. But the venze still looks better The bck side of d cross_tour is dumb
Toyota venza is different from Camry. But Honda crosstour is basically an accord wagon and Honda didn't deny that, the official name is Honda accord crosstour. The interior, engine, drive train is the same with same year accord except for the awd versions.
udmbat: I served in imo state and recorded nothing of such.
I schooled in akwa ibom and there are lots of Yoruba working in banks and other govt firms. I served in jigawa state and there are lots of Yoruba working in govt firms in dutse. Agreed there are more igbos in Lagos and suburbs than there are yorubas in the east, but that is mainly because Lagos is a center of commerce. Same way there are lots of yorubas in kano.
bobo9ice: Nobody says what the Oba said was right.. Even tho he can can whatever he likes but not in that manner... The fact remains that the Igbo shud know that Lagos is not thiers and it will never be. They have more to gain than loose if they comport themseives in a civilized manner...
Yes u are right, the igbos need to comport themselves and respect their host. But they are nobody's slaves.
bobo9ice: Thank you FFK for this piece... The Oba was right anyway... Igbo should know that Lagos is a Yoruba Land. Full Stop.
Yes Lagos is a yorubaland and igbos can overdo things sometimes. But oba was wrong to threaten igbos even though they are their host. Igbo is still Nigeria, the obs cannot even threaten an American like that in Lagos so why would he threaten a fellow Nigerian? Everybody has the right to vote for a candidate of his choice, and its not as if agbaje is Igbo, he is Yoruba for crying out loud.
The igbos are immigrants in Lagos, but they are not slaves. They pay tax and bills and and participate on the growing commerce in the state. The oba didn't have to address them as slaves.
udmbat: I'm so sorry for igbos in Lagos and Yoruba states. Imagine if you don't get what you don't give anymore. Things like gauranteed admission into tertiary institutions, employment opportunities in Government firms like ministries, LG councils, schools. You will never see a yoruba in south eastern states working in any of these firms. You better be careful because its you that will loose.
I'm not in support of the igbos, but u really need to travel and u will see lots of Yorubas working 'these' firms.
We Africans especially Nigerians are our own problems. We hate ourselves and attach so much importance to tribalism. Whenever we travel out of the country and things don't go right for us, we scream RACISM. But the fact is even foreigners respect us abroad more than we respect ourselves back home. Northerners don't like southerners, Yorubas see igbos as second class citizens. Yes Lagos belongs to the Yorubas, but if u watch the video, the king addressed the igbos as if he was addressing SLAVES. THAT IS UNACCEPTABLE. It doesn't give the igbos the right to disrespect the king though but the king should have done the needful. Let's accept he made a mistake, he should have come out to rephrase his statement.
refreshrate: Sorry no vex youre right the Lexus is better. BTW I have driven both. Have you?
U are getting him wrong. He didn't in anyway say the lexus is better, what he said is both can go head to head even though the merc is the better all round ride. But the fact remains the difference between a Lexus Ls460 and Benz s600 is not too far off as u guys put it. For the fact that the Lexus goes for about $90,000 while the merc is above $150,000 says a lot about what Toyota has done with the Lexus. The Mercedes Benz badge alone is an additional $20,000 on the merc. FACT.
lomomike: Every car produced has its target buyer. Some cars are produced for brute force, sheer torque and absolute power, you can't take them out always. Eg is Dodge Viper, corvette, Porsche carerra GT . If you think you can drive try it, it may end up taming you.
Some others are produced for folks who love serenity, ease, bliss, attention to details, meek calm and peaceful, graceful and elegant. Eg, Rolls Royce, Lexus, Mercs (non-amg trims) Some are for folks who loves exquisite quality mixed with some bruteness. Just like diamonds in the diets. BMWs I'm not talking of 4 cylinders 1.8l I'm talking about M badges, AMGs, Etc.
Some want an everyday minimalist or even not minimalist but not too shouty and spoiling (either in power or luxury) Toyota, Honda, Nissan, VW.
Yet also cars are produced with age brackets, marital status, and financial strength etc in mind. An A and B class Benz, City and Jazz Honda, Yaris Toyota are for young folks without much cash, based in city and commute daily.
C class, Civic, Corolla are for city, more luxurious than the young market target, they're for family especially young families or young people based in city.
E class, Accord, CAMRY et all are mid-sized executive sedans for office executives, family folks. S class, Legend, Avalon etc is for senior executives, CEOs etc these are usually mid-aged to older folks. More serene but powerful.
Now, there's what we call entry level, mid level and flagship models.
Till 2015, any RX Lexus series was an entry level series suv. It was senseless to compare in with an ML or a GL. It competes with a GLK Benz and ZDX, audi Q3. Now, there's an NX class lexus which fills up that gap. An ML class, GX lexus series, MDX, Audi Q5 was a mid class target. LX lexus series, GL series Q7 Audi is top of the range.
However, there's another twist. Body size comparison.
An MDX, ML and RX (starting from Rx330 till date) are mid sized SUVs. zdx, q3 Audi, rx300, glk series are compact CUVs, But GL merc, LX and GX lexus series and Q7 are full sized SUVs.
Merc, acura, Infiniti, Porsche, BMW, lexus are luxury marque. Toyota, Nissan, Honda (excluding some models),are mid class cars, While cars such as Bentley, Rolls Royce, Mercedes Maybach are hyper luxury.
Nice analysis, but I still think the c class is way ahead of the civic and corolla. The c class is luxury based compact sedan (or executive) while the civic and corolla are compact passenger cars, no luxury. I mean what is luxurious about a car if it doesn't come with v6 (or turbo), leather seats and automatic climate control? U can only find leather seats in newer civics but u have to look really hard. I know recently they are changing, civics are becoming accords and accords are becoming bigger and more luxurious. Likewise Camrys are fast becoming Avalon, I won't be surprised if Toyota stops production of Avalon in the near future.
themodernman: You are talking to d wrong person here man....d person you should quote dat to is d person who jumped on ds healthy thread to say wat he knows nothing about.
A reasonable person on ds thread has explained to him why its okay to compare both...instead of him to keep shut & learn he decided to lurk around d corner until he
could see something to hold onto & attack yet he has just shown how stuupid he is, cos I was simply tryna get info from him on which ride to buy as evidenced in my
other post "2 million too much?" Direct your speech to him otherwise I'll believe I'm speaking to his type. Thanx.
First it was the Acura ZDX (though I wish it had stayed as that car looks weird but unique), then Venza and now Crosstour. Could it be there's not enough market for these tall wagons (I know some will call them cuv or SUV but in reality they are tall wagons).
themodernman: Abeg me no get time for plenty oyibo...
Explain yourself in simple english so I'll be able to choose between a BMW X3 / Mercedes benz E320 both 04 models.
This guy na was for u o, u just dey yearn jargons for this ur thread. In what way is a BMW x3 similar to Mercedes Benz e320 apart from the fact that they both have 4 tires. Well I don't blame u since u can also compare a Honda city with a Mercedes Benz c class.
Ferrari 458 Italia and fire are like bread and butter. Ferrari already recalled all 458 Italia because of a design fault which can cause them to bust into flames.
ayusco85: I think the Igbos should respect their host, and try and do what will bring peace and peaceful co-existence. No one will go to Aba or Onitsha and try to claim relevance or drag rights with the true indigenes of those areas. Lagos belongs to the Yoruba's, like it or not.
#VoteNotFight #OneNigeria #Peace
And for ur mind now u don make sense. Ambode is Yoruba, so is Agbaje. Are u saying there are no Yoruba that support Agbaje? Are they also disrespecting the king? You know the right thing, but because u support a particular party u are shying away from the truth. If the king was PDP and he made that statement that Igbos should vote PDP or die in the lagoon, I am sure u will be here condemning the king. I'm not even a supporter of either candidates, but what is bad is bad. Everybody has a right to vote for a candidate of their choice or it is no longer democracy.
Op, thank God for ur life. I really don't see anything wrong with taking pictures in a free society, but then u have to be more careful and don't let people know u are taking pictures whenever there's a crisis.
One more thing, if u must take pictures with ur phone, try having a cloud based storage like Dropbox, google drive or onedrive on ur phone. I have dropbox on one phone and onedrive on another. It will only take a few seconds to upload any picture I take automatically into the cloud. I don't even have to upload them myself, its automatic. So even if I am forced to delete the pictures or I lose my phone, all I have to do is get another phone or get on a computer, log in and voila all the pictures and contacts are there waiting to be redownloaded. I have pictures of 7 years ago waiting in the cloud.
I don't know why the igbos are hell bent on disobeying this Great king. They should remember that he who the gods want to kill will first run mad. Igbos should be grateful to the Yoruba for accomodating them and their businesses. They should not take our silence for cowardice. Be warned
Looks like u lost a bolt in ur head. The Igbos are an integral part in upholding the economy of Lagos state, even the Oba knows that. Be grateful to the Yoruba for accommodating them and their business? Do u think there would be Alaba and Ladipo without the Igbo? Both Igbo and Yoruba benefit from each other, but a retard like u cannot notice. How old are u because u seem to have the brain of a 5 year old (no insult intended).
If everybody is forced to vote for a particular candidate, then what is the need for democracy? We for kukuma let army take over then.
Johnsontim: @ abatically.. Pls which SUV can you advice because of our road and also the maintenance.
Depends on what u want in a car. The pathfinder is rugged, comes with 4wd, but looks ugly.. so if u don't mind the looks then it is a good choice. If u want something a little more beautiful u can get a highlander limited with 4wd. I don't know much about Montero.
nurey: Bro there is no need hating, just give your own counter argument we are all here to learn. When you look at the target market of those vehicles that's what I mean.
But you can enlighten us why I can't compare two things targeted at the same market just because one has more luxury refinement than the other.
Bro I ain't hating. The Honda Civic is targeted at a different market from Mercedes Benz C class. Yes they are both entry level sedans for each company. Should we also put the ferrari California T against the Honda civic? Since the Ferrari California is the tamest of Ferrari models.
Johnsontim: Good day Pls i need advise on which car to go for. This will be my first time using cars. 1. Mistubishi Montero 200 - 2003 2. Nissan Pathfinder 2000 - 2003 3. Total camry 4. Volvo. 5. BMW.
Bmw was the car i used i sold it due to constant over heating. Pls i need help as i want to go another car. The road to my house is bad so am thinking of affordable SUV.
5. BMW. Do u mean the BMW M5? Its surely a good car.
nurey: Yes its possible to compare the C-class to the likes of the civic and toyota corolla, they are entry level of each car manufacturer, but the base model of the C-class could actually by two of the civic or corolla (theoretically) speaking. But as usual japfanboiz and germanfanboiz won't agree and my assumptions still stand that the germans are ahead of the japs by the formular MORE check my previous post to know the calculation of MORE.
But seriously it won't be fair because even the highest trim of the C-class will kill the Avalon, make the lexus ES look childish but will die in the hands of the lexus LS.
Bia nwokem, entry level u say? Then u made a mistake, u for kukuma put Honda City against a C class. Oh no, it should be Honda Fit vs C class because Honda Fit is entry level Honda. And then it should also be safe to put Bentley Continental GT v8 (entry level Bentley ) against a C class, or Maserati Ghibli against a C class.
themodernman: Rav 4 is d base SUV model...I think you should compare d ROVER with d Highlander or better still Lexus..
This guy u must be a comedian. What do u mean by base model? A rav 4 v6 is definitely not the base trim of rav 4. Rav 4 has different trims from the base model LE to the highest trim XLE Limited AWD.
If by base model u actually mean class, then why would u compare a Honda civic with a Mercedes Benz c class? They are of different class for different end users. Just because the c class is the entry level of Mercedes Benz sedans doesn't make it a small car.
