Let's see who CAF chooses. It doesn't even matter if they choose Yaya because u will come back here and say they are biased.

Nobody is hating on Enyeama.. but u people are taking this too far. Where was Enyeama between January and June.. he didn't make any club appearance. Yes the past few months have been very good for him but being Africa best is judged over a calender year. He had 16 club appearances in 2013, no champions league. That is not enough to win u CAF player of the year. Compare with Yaya who has about 64 club appearances in 2013 and playing in the champions league. Enyeama was non existent from January to June. That is a whooping 6 months. Let's leave sentiments out of this and face reality.

Fajzay: You have learnt your lesson. Personally, I find it difficult to stop for those useless police (Not to even mention those standing in those less aggressive states like Ekiti etc). When you see me coming with 150-180KM/hr, with headlamps on, u clear off the highway and par-adventure, its a bend / pot-holes region. u might have been doing that and might have paid off, but that is not the right advice to give here. Someone else might do it and might backfire. I have seen policemen shoot at innocent people and claim they are robbers. All it takes is just plant a gun in the car, they might even get promoted for that... Life wasted. All those in support of Mikel because he won the Nations cup and Europa league, abeg when Jay Jay Okocha won this award in 2003 and 2004, which trophy did he win? WHy didn't u guys complain then that Okocha didn't deserve it? Goals win u games. People pay to watch players that can get u entertained and score goals, not sluggish players that only do back and side passes. canavaro won Ballon D'or because he was exceptional and Italy conceded just 2 goals in the world cup, one from an own goal and one from a penalty. That was an exceptional situation and no defender has won it since then. If Mikel had done something exceptional in the nations cup maybe he would have been considered. But he is really just a squad player while Yaya is a vital player for City. Maybe if Mikel had kept playing the way he did in the youth championship he would have become a better player. But he was converted into a defensive midfielder and he was content with it, not wanting to take risks. Great players take risks. yaya wasn't Man City's free kick taker but he forced his way and now he scores free kicks for fun.

Let me answer ur question. How many times has a defender won the award since canavaro? Only 2 defenders have won the award to date and that was lother matthaus and canavaro. It is not easy for a defender to win that award because it isgoals that win u games. Canavaro won it because of the fill Wong reasons
1. He was the captain of the Italian team that won the works cup
2. Italy won the world cup by being the beat defending team
3. Italy conceded just 2 goals throughout the tournament. An own goal against USA and a zidane's penalty in the final.
4. Canavaro played every minute of the world cup and was outstanding. He got the nick name wall or Berlin.
5. He didn't get a single yellow card or red card theouout the tournament.
6. He was so good real Madrid had to buy him. And there was no other player that could really be compared to him that year. Canavaro is regarded as the best defender in his generation.

So yes a defender can win but it will take something extraordinary. Do u think people pay big to go watch football because of defenders? No, they pay to watch players with skills, that can score goals, players that cab entertain the fans. Can such be said about Mikel? What did Mikel do to warrant him win the award? Do u think non Nigerians love to watch Mikel play? Go outside Nigerians and compare the 2 players Mikel and yaya and u will get ur answer.

Why do folks fail to realize it is the best player in Africa we are talking about here, not the best team or the best trophy winning player. winning a trophy will boost ur chance but doesn't automatically make u the winner. in 2010 Asamoah Gyan didn't win any trophy for country and club but he won it, in 2011-2012 Messi didn't win any trophy either but won ballon D'or, U might like Mikel because he is a Nigerian but it doesn't take away the fact that Yaya is a far better player. Put Mikel on sale and see how many teams would want him, now put Yaya on the market and watch all top teams in Europe clamor for his signature even though he is 30.
