Car TalkRe: Reasons Why Real Men Still Drive Stick Cars .....manual by abatically(m): 9:02pm On Dec 31, 2013
Ikenna351: In Australia, anyone that learns how to drive with auto tranny car only will be given partial driver's licence. Meaning, you are not allowed to drive a manual tranny car with the partial licence (have forgotten the name they call the partial licence ). For such a person to start driving manual tranny, he/she will have to undergo another training with manual transmission. He/she will be tested and will granted th full driver's licence, to allow him/her to drive manual transmission cars on public roads.

But any Australian that learns how to drive with manual tranny, he will be issued full driver's licence, to drive both auto and manual cars.

Not long ago, someone wanted to start my 406 v6, to hear how the engine note is. I was standing beside the car. Suddenly , the car started jerking forward while he was cranking the engine. And there was a car parked in front. I had to rush into the car to pull the hand brake, which if i had not done that, my car would have rear end the car in front. Guess what happened ? The guy attempted to start the car while the 1st gear was still engaged. Because to him, he thought it was in "Park", just like the auto trannies. This guy owns and have driven his auto tranny car for more than 5 years, yet he couldn't start a car. I get it, he have should still be called a driver because he can move the steering wheel while car is in motion.

If i were Federal govt, I would make it compulsory for driving schools to teach with manual tranny for the 1st 3 weeks, and conclude the lesson with auto tranny the 4th week. A lot of driving skills are imbibed when learning how to drive with stick cars.

Ikenna
Driving schools in Nigeria don't teach with auto tranny, they all use manual to teach. I think the only person embarrassing himself here is the op. Driving manual vs auto is a thing of choice. Driving manual doesn't make someone a superman, neither does driving auto make someone a dummy

Honda accords are very selective with the kind of atf used. I still don't know why people decide to use non recommended atf for their Honda. U need to flush that atf and replace with atf z1 or dw1 and watch ur car cine back to life.

I don't even care about who won or not. The most annoying part of the show was the mediocre live performance displayed by the artists. I mean how can an artist go smoke weed backstage and then come to the stage and perform nonsense. Olamide was virtually miming, his voice was not even syncing with the music. Same thing with all other artists. I have said it before, we need to wake up in this country and start boycotting shows or boo and throw things are those stewpid artists when they come to mime and lip sync on stage. They are paid huge amount of money to perform on stage and they come to mime for us with their CD playing. We can as well hire a DJ to just spin the turntables instead. Just look at davido on stage.. SHAME. I have watched live performance outside the country and u get to enjoy a real live performance, definitely not the trash we are being given in this country. Its left for us fans to stand up against them, if they know they can't give a real live performance then we should stop watching them. I prefer watching a live highlife performance than these so called hip hop .

COOLDUN: Ok , lets wait until he does that, then we can follow, did he make the promise before or after his wife imported the BMW cars with waivers?
It is not mandatory for govt parastatlas to use Nigerian made cars. Yes they might assign Nigerian made cars as official cars, definitely not the 1.2 million naira ones but the most expensive ones( really that is normal, they are rich so won't use the cheap ones). Then even at that, a minister might decide to leave his assigned Nigerian made car at home and move around in his own imported Mercedes or BMW that he bought by himself because he can afford it, even an ordinary man can afford it in this country. In Malaysia they have locally made cars as govt official cars, but it doesn't stop govt officials from driving imported expensive cars

rudedough: Here you go! Anyone who does not appreciate the FG on this is either ignorant, selfish or an "Olojukokoro".

N.B: My car is slightly above the 1.5 because of the high taxes on imported cars but this is what a N1.5 Million Naira car would look like if produced in Nigeria. Don't be deceived, this is the way forward for our great nation.
i am not against the idea of Nigerians producing their own cars but i think there are a few things that should be taken care of before venturing into car manufacturing. There is no constant power (electricity) in this country. Don't be surprised that if the same company that made that ur car come to Nigeria they will sell, that car for more than 1.5 million naira because they are going to use their own generator to supply power. If they must sell for 1.5 then it will be trimmed and sub standard. Go to innoson plant in nnewi and see how many generators they have and how many millions they spend on diesel everyday.
Car TalkRe: First Potential Look At The N1.2million Nigerian Made Cars - Pics by abatically(m): 8:24pm On Dec 30, 2013
rudedough: Please don't listen to the OP, the OP is a troll. Those are not the cars you will get for N1.5, those cars he posted are old washed away cars.

This is the range of car you will get at that price and they are very good, in fact i have one myself and i can guarantee that they are as reliable as your Toyota and Hondas, more affordable and easy to maintain.

These are pictures from the internet, Please hold while i post mine.
You lie. That car u posted is Perodua Myvi.. a Malaysian car and u will never get it for 1.5 million Naira. I know this because I live in Malaysia. The 1.3L manual base model of that car is sold for about 2 million naira. The one u posted is the 1.5L S.E model and it goes for 2.5 million naira for the manual and almost 3 million naira for the automatic. Now these cars are manufactured in a country where there is constant uninterrupted electricity and other resources. Now if those cars are to be manufactured in Nigeria where the company has to run their own generator because of lack of power, do u think the price will be the same? The younger brother of Myvi which is Viva starts at 1.2m for the 660BX. check the specs below

660cc DVVT engine 47hp @ 7,200rpm, 58Nm @ 4,400rpm
No power steering
No power windows
No central locking
No radio
No reverse sensors
Unpainted bumpers
Manual transmission only.

Now who would spend 1.2million for a 47hp car with no specs at all.. in the name of driving a new car?

The 1.0L of the same car called viva 1.0 Elite goes for 1.850 million naira for the manual and 2 million naira for the automatic .

Now I am not saying the govt initiative to start production of cars is bad.. but there are things that need to be taken care of before that. They should first give us stable electricity and good roads, then they can talk of assembling or manufacturing cars. Rome was not built in a day. Malaysia started making their own cars (Proton) in 1985 in collaboration with mitsubishi motors before parting ways in the early 2000's. It wasn't easy but today they have at least 2 indigenous automakers. Used cars are sold allover the world, placing a high tariff is not the solution, especially when they have not started selling made in Nigeria cars. This policy should come in place at least after 1-2 years of selling made in Nigeria cars. And people should have the ability to make their choice. Good cars don't come cheap trust me.. If they are going to sell a 1.2million naira brand new car then u can be rest assured its going to be of a very low quality. Then it will be back to the old saying that the rich are getting richer while the poor are getting poorer.. because the rich ones will import their luxury cars regardless of the increase in import duties while the poor will be stuck with poorly made locally produced cars.. In the end, if everything goes fine.. maybe in 15-20 years time it might improve our economy.

Car TalkRe: Reasons Why Real Men Still Drive Stick Cars .....manual by abatically(m): 11:47pm On Dec 29, 2013
@op, so if someone is rich enough to buy a Mercedes Benz s class then automatically that makes him a weak and lazy man.. Because last time i checked newer models of Mercedes Benz s class comes only with automatic transmission. As a matter of fact most luxury cars come with automatic transmission. Even performance cars like Ferrari and Lamborghini are gradually ditching manual for auto.
Car TalkRe: Reasons Why Real Men Still Drive Stick Cars .....manual by abatically(m): 10:27pm On Dec 29, 2013
Sorry to say but what u wrote is utter rubbish. Are u trying to tell me manual cars don't have cup holders? Or those cops in the states that eat sandwich and coffee while patrolling don't drive manual cars? Driving manual vs auto is a thing of choice, it doesn't make one a better driver than the other. Some people have passion for stick cars while some feel it doesn't worth the stress driving a shift when technology has made things easier, so why not enjoy it? Go and watch the movie fast and furious 6, most of the cars used are automatic and they were driven by world class professional drivers. So according to u those men are not real drivers?
Car TalkRe: How Can I Know The Mileage Of A Replaced Engine by abatically(m): 5:02pm On Dec 28, 2013
I don't think there's a way to know the odometer of a used engine unless there's a tag on the engine stating its odometer before shipping. I have once replaced an engine with a tag on it stating the place of shipping, odometer and other info.. But most used engines don't have such tags on them or have been removed. If u are having a new odometer after changing the engine, then probably the mechanic has rolled it back
Car TalkRe: Need advice on Toyota Camry 2008 At 70,000km to purchase by abatically(m): 4:56pm On Dec 28, 2013
If the mileage is indeed 70,000km, then that is about 43,000 miles and very good for a 5 year old car. You can go with a mechanic though to see if the car is in top notch condition, if there's a check engine light on then go with a portable obd2 scanner to know what to be fixed. Otherwise its very good. The price is on a high side though since its Nigerian used, 1.8m should be enough especially if fg are placing a hold on the import tariff. Also it would be good to ask the owner the at used, if its not the recommended one then flush and replace with the recommended one . good luck.
Car TalkRe: Ford Kuga Jeep, Nissan Murano Jeep Or Audi Sport Car? by abatically(m): 10:59am On Dec 27, 2013
Lol at audi sports car. Op didn't mention the models. Anyway, in terms of fuel economy the ford kuga would be the best option, if u want power then the murano. The kuga is just another name for ford escape so parts are available, same with murano. Avoid the first generation murano, they are subject to tranny failure. As for audi sports car, op needs to narrow her options, there are lots of audi sports cars. I wouldn't even suggest using any if its a first car and going to be driven by a lady.

Car TalkRe: In Need Of An SD Card Map Of Nigeria For Toyota Camry GPS by abatically(m): 6:58pm On Dec 22, 2013
If its factory fitted navigation, You a going to need the Toyota DVD for Nigeria maps loaded into the system before it could work. Unfortunately I don't think those DVDs are available, especially if the car was imported from the states. (They might be though, not sure.). Your best option will be to get a handheld GPS device like garmin with a stand . they do have complete map of Nigeria and u can update periodically to get the latest maps. I use sygic GPS navigation(paid version) on my galaxy s3 and it does the job better than garmin and some in built car navigation. It has voice turn by turn navigation, rerouting, lots of POIS and I cab easily navigate to places I have never been before in any part of Nigeria without any problem. Handheld navigations are not so expensive and are easily carried around. I know there's is nothing as good as having the inbuilt navigation to work but unfortunately here in Nigeria it doesn't work.

Car TalkRe: Different Sizes On All My 3 Tyres! Currently Cash Strapped! What To Do? by abatically(m): 6:31pm On Dec 21, 2013
Finestlex: hehehehehe... when I said rim is rim, I meant 18rims.. as the thread dude created.. was trying to correct a brother who said the folk needs to get four new 18rims when he already has 3. Fuel consumption has to do with engine and not tyres. You need to grow up..
Ha ha ha... u really need to do ur research very well dude. Tyre size has a lot to do with fuel consumption. Deviate too much from the recommended size and watch ur mpg go down drastically. But I don't blame u from being ignorant, lots of vulcanizers and tyre dealers don't know this. Also using 18" rim doesn't necessarily mean the car will be higher, it depends on the aspect ratio. A 15" rim tyre can make a car higher than some 18" tyres.
