First of all, not only Nigerians buy used cars. People in developed countries like the USA, UK, Germany, Canada, etc all buy used cars. As a matter of fact, I would say Nigerians even buy new cars than other developed countries. You will ask me why I say so. Reason is we make full payment for our cars and even pay more than those white folks. For Naija its cash and carry, while in developed countries, about 70% of new cars are on loan payment. How many banks give car loan in Nigeria? Now op back to ur Kia. Lets say u get ur 2013 new Kia Rio for 2.5million. Yes there is nothing like driving a new car, but with that money I can buy a very clean title low mileage 2008 Honda Accord 4 cylinder. You have better fuel mpg than me no doubt , but do u derive joy in driving that car? How strong are ur suspension. What about safety features and other fun stuff. Well all that might not matter to u because u said car na car. To some people there is more to a car than just mpg and moving from point A to point B. Even though my car is older than urs, its still more advanced than ur new Kia. After 5 years of usage, compare the 2 cars, mine will still be stronger while urs would have worn out. I have more space , more power, more speed, stability etc. And when i decide I am bored with it, I am still going to get more value for money than ur new Kia rio or picanto. So.. if I don't have enough money to buy the latest model of the car I like, I can buy an older model at a cheaper price rather than buy what I don't like just because its brand new. If I want fuel economy close to what ur Kia rio or picanto gets, the 2.5M will still get me a very clean 2010 toyota corolla and trust me, it will dust ur brand new kia in every aspect. Come back after 5 years My corolla will still be going strong while ur Kia would have worth not more than 400k |
Your car is perfectly ok. The rise in temperature was caused by the missing radiator cap. Don't heed the mechanic's advice, do not bridge ur fans. Your fans are not supposed to start with he ignition, it should only work when the temperature has reached optimum temperature and thermostat opens allowing cool water to go in while the hot water is returned into the radiator, then the fan cools the hot water and the cycle continues. Both fans should work though when the ac is turned on. Also try not to use only water in ur radiator, use a 50/50 mixture with coolant. |
Op, what u are planning to do would probably be a fruitless effort. Those people are well organised, moreover no warranty on used car, since the car was working well before it left their garage, u don't have a case. It even becomes more difficult since it was bought outside of Nigeria. Look for money and fix ur car. |
funshint: Fact 11 if you're moving down any naija street and you see any broken-down car with distended wheels; look no further it's definitely "Honda".I saw a BMW with a pulled front wheel in the middle of the road today. The other day it was a Lincoln navigator. |
@ibkgab001 I have not seen a car that requires transmission fluid to be changed every month. The recommended is 30k miles, but just to be on a safer side u can change every year, but definitely not every month, especially when u are using the recommended fluid which is Toyota type iv. Toyota matrix is a good car economy wise. I'm just not a fan because it has one of the worst interior i have ever seen in a car. The buttons peel off easily and the dashboard is the ugliest i have seen, and the car is pricey too. @op, if u are buying it try buying the one with AWD, at least that will complement its shortcomings. |
There are lots of reasons that could cause that, could be the shaft. Or probably your ball joints are about to fall off. My advice, stop driving it and take it to ur mechanic to examine before it disappoints u in the middle of nowhere. And when replacing ball joints, insist on the original ones and not the korean ones that litter the market. If u can't get a genuine new one u can buy a tokunbo ball joint, way better than the new korean or china ones. |
I remember sometimes ago, cartalk used to be real fun. Lots of topics everyday, discussions, arguments, debates and at the end of the day we all agree to disagree (or should I say disagree to agree). But now the case is different.. if a mod doesn't agree with u he hides ur post. Its no news that lots of active members have left car talk, or have stopped commenting on general topics. Or maybe they now only care about their own threads. Its no news that nowadays its only a topic that makes it to front page that gets lots of comments (we all know what happens when a topic meant for cartalk makes it to front page). I really think the mods should take things easy a little bit. Too many hidden posts, they even modify topics created by members without prior notice. This thread would be fun again if the mods take things easy. |
Rossy_Bentley: I'll advice you to either sell this car and get another one, a friend of mine has this car too, there was a day we went to drink, he took the car key and told us he's leaving, when getting to the car he was drunk and he mistakenly opened another man's car, (same car) and he then drove it home, when getting home he decide to check the save to pick some money, that was when he realised that wasn't his car, he quickly returned it, meanwhile the owner of this particular car is still at the same joint drinking and not knowing anything.wait a minute. This is a joke right? |
lomomike: I've gone through ALL the posts on this thread countless times, infact, I follow up on this thread and I can tell you go back and read ALL the posts on this thread S L O W L Y and when you're done, come back and talk with maturity and stop those silly accusations. This is the last time I will reply you here on this matter. Final advice, grow up!If there is anybody that needs to grow up on this thread its Mr Ikenna and u know it. Little wonder he has received many criticism on this thread from lots of members. |
oilykid: 23 millionSo what if u already have like 5 mansions? Would u not want to enjoy ur life before u die? This car is not for someone who has 20 million in his account, it is meant for someone with over 200 million lying somewhere. Trust me if u have that kind of money lying around u won't hesitate to buy it. |
all4naija: Brand new 2014 Range Rover Sport cost $63,495 that is =N= 10,067132.25(=N=10.1m) and the seller on this site says =N= 23.3 m. That is big rip off! Jeez! I would rather spend that money on something better.$63,495 is the base price. Price can be as high as $90,000 for top of the line depending on installed option and shipping. Let's just assume this one is top of the line (NOTE: Assume) at $90,000 = 14.2 million naira. If u add shipping and clearing it might end up at 16-17 million naira. Now when u invest 17 million naira in a business u would be thinking of 3-4 million naira profit, this justifies the 21m op is asking for. But then if its not the top of the line model, then its a rip off. |
There are 1,001 reasons that cam trigger that light. U need to scan the car to know where the problem is. A simple obd ii scanner can do the magic if ur car is obd ii compliant. |
For cars with climate control, the compressor don't get engaged until after about 30 secs of starting the engine. For such cars it doesnt matter if u start the car with the ac on or not... But its just a good habit to turn off everything (headlights, ac, stereo, etc) before turning off car. For cars with manual ac, starting the car with the ac on adds extra load to the car as the compressor kicks as soon as the car is started. |
What temperature is displayed on ur instrument cluster. Is the needle past the halfway mark?. If its way past the halfway mark check if both fans are working . That's the first step to troubleshooting. |
I still think the Peugeot cars are outdated and overpriced compared to the competition. |
Klem28: @ Abatically, tanx much for ur resourceful info. The car is Honda baby boy 1999 model. I bought it as used about 6 months ago. What do u mean by maintenance? Is it by changing the oil and d filter regularly cos I have been doing this, I will appreciate more tips plsYes maintenance is about changing oil, filter, air filter, spark plugs all as at when due. ALso making sure ur thermostat and other sensors are working properly. One thing that wears engine out quickly is when the engine overheats or not reaching the optimum temperature quickly due to fans connected directly and thermostat removal. Ur car is 250k, is it miles or Km? If its km its not so high. if its in miles its pretty on a high side for a 14 year old car.. but if it is maintained properly the engine would still run flawlessly for many years. I think for that high mileage its not advisable to use synthetic oil.. just my thought though, I could be wrong. |
Would have been easier if u mentioned the car make and year. Also are u talking about miles or kilometers? Unless u are talking about a few specific cars like the land rover freelander that are notoriously known to have engine problems, 250k miles is not too bad depending on year of manufacture. I have seen a car that still runs great at 600k plus miles. It all depends on maintenance culture. An engine can survive 700k from one owner, the same engine might not survive 200k miles from another owner. Did u just buy the car or u have been using it for some time. Just so u kay know, most of the tokunbo cars displayed in Nigeria already have their odometer rolled back. Imagine a 1999 Toyota Camry with 65k mileage. That is very very rare to find and would be more expensive. Unless the car has been salvaged for a really long time before being shipped. But go to car lots in Lagos, u will see lots of 99 model cars with less than 100k mileage and they tell u its clean title. |
almost all phone users lock their phones. The only people that don't lock their phones are the elderly ones.. so how would ICE work? |
sultaan: Relax you should see the humor on that statement. How is he suppose to know mechanic is setting up for Xmas and New year. The man is running around lookin for 'air kilometer' next it will be headlight fluid. They have fuxk with the car already now time to start changing out good partsI'm very much well relaxed. We all know the op meant air flow meter. He probably wrote it the exact way the mechanic pronounced it. I referred him to nissparts, he can help him get a genuine MAF sensor for nissan/infiniti. Anyway good riddance to a bad joke. |
Ikenna351: Hahaha! I still dey laugh o!OMG, u will help me? I don't see how u are going to help me because I think u are the one who needs help. U made fun of the OP instead of correcting him or giving an advice to help him. Now talk about embarrassing myself, I also don't see how I did that. I have no grudges against anybody. You urself know if that thing was written by someone else u would hide it without blinking. If u are going through stress say it here maybe someone can help u, don't get too emotional. And I know u know about cars (Sorry u know about Peugeots, or u think u know).. but where did u learn that AFM (MAF) is the same as MAP. Mass Air Flow Meter (MAF) tells the computer how much air is drawn into the engine and its normally found on or around the air filter cover. MAP on the other hand is Manifold Absolute Pressure sensor and it measures pressure differential in the intake manifold. It is normally found around the intake manifold. Now show me where i wrote MAP in my post.. I guess u are the one who should read carefully. |
Look at 2 so called moderators laughing at a fellow nairalander that needs help. Well its really funny though but he should be corrected and not ridiculed. @op it is called air flow meter or mass air flow sensor (MAF). U can contact nissparts, he should be able to help u out. Check the link to his profile. https://www.nairaland.com/nissparts Back to the moderators, if it were someone else that posted what u just posted, u would probably hide the post. English is not our first language and i have seen lots of grammatical errors from a certain moderator on this forum... Like saying 'am' instead of 'I'm'. Anyway, u can go ahead and hide this post. |
Some Nigerian drivers with cars without drl are even so daft that they don't turn on their headlamps when its raining heavily or during hamattan and visibilty is low. Only drl can solve this problem because whether u like it or not ur lights are always on. But then there is a little downside too. My car, a 2005 Honda accord for example has this drl that can never be turned off. So in the case where u need to sneak across a lonely street at night, how do u do it without being noticed? |
U mean brazil 3014? |
Some states in America are hotter than sokoto during summer and they don't turn off their drl during the day. So i see no problem using them in the tropics. Its not as if those people have snow or fog all year long. |
Anyone here think kagawa has been very poor for us this season especially in epl. I know he has a strong fan base but in reality he hasn't done anything special for us. He is average at most. Players like Valencia, welbeck, nani, cleverly, Ashley young get the stick when they play pooly but no one ever mentions kagawa. The guy has gone 13 games with 0 goals, 0 assists. So much for a world class playmaker. I think its time for him to go back to the bench. |
chucky234: If you are buying before January 10th then N1.2m will get you a clean 2002 Camry (big for nothing) but if after January 10th then N2.5m is all you.A clean title 2002 Camry (big for nothing) will never cost 1.2m. However u can get a salvaged title for that price, not a clean title. Unless u want to be deceived by getting a salvaged title thinking its clean title. |
And he scores.... Yet again |
If fuel economy is ur main priority, pls stay away from that machine because it is not for u. That machine looks like a w12 6.0L engine. That car is a high end luxury car which can be on per with Mercedez benz S class.. problem is people would rather buy an S class. If u want an everyday car, don't buy it. If u already have like 2 cars and want something to make u stand out and have enough money for fuel and maintenance, then buy it. And if u are buying it, go with a scanner to scan it first because there's a check engine light on. First find out what the the fault is and see if its what can be easily fixed. Just my 2 cent. |
safarigirl: but you know that CAF doesn't give their award to BBC winners. Be content with that, Toure already won CAF last year, why should he win another when he hasn't done much better than Enyeama? Are you Toure's agent? You, babyboy and the other loser whose name I won't bother to remember, need to get with the programme, Enyeama is winning CAF, agree or visit your nearest otapiapia seller.I am nobody's agent, just being realistic. First it was Mikel and now enyeama. In as much as I want one of ours to win it, we can't say we don't know that yaya is a big threat. If u think yaya is not a big threat then u must be living in wonderland. Lets see who they pick, I wish enyeama best of luck because he will need it. But if yaya is named, don't come here and say caf is biased... That has always been what we Nigerians resort to if things don't go our way. |
homesteady: Is appearances your only problem??You make me laugh. Enyeama made 9 appearance in 2013 (minus Lille and world cup qualifiers) and they are all for Nigeria. He started being Lille goalkeeper in August. From January to June he didn't make a single club appearance. Yes Appearance matters.. u don't judge a player based on 2 months form. |
