This is from the poster

Got a little weekly pay job from an academy in Europe

So who is wrong? Did you even read his post before trying to counter?

I wasn't responding to the poster, I was responding to your comment which stated he must have done something shady.....You were the one that made mention of amount and I subsequently told you, the amount has nothing to do with cancellation. Any amount can be flagged.....I don't know what you're arguing here but ENOUGH!

We've played this game before and we all know the aftermath. Scarcity of dollars, increase in peer to peer fx transactions. A minor strength in the Naira for a short period followed by a massive drop.

An economy that is reactive instead of proactive will sooner than later meet its waterloo......Dey Play!

It’s not a lot of money. Don’t see why it should get flagged and cancelled eventually. A relatively consistent amount of money from the same source to the same recipient is generally not an issue, Even if it gets flagged they might ask for more evidence and allow it pass but not to cancel it cos that will mean he might not be allowed to use the service anymore

Cancellation comes with reasonable doubt

I've worked in the financial sector for many years, many transactions are canceled, lot of money is defined by Western Union not the customer! Don't know why you feel cancellations has to do with a certain amount, your transaction can get canceled for many reasons from transaction history to country's reputation etc. It is up to the client to call them and pass through the verification process, a very simple task!

Why was it flagged?

Have you EVER now or in the past been involved in anything funny? Even if it was years ago

Did you ‘help’ anyone transfer money in your name? Did you sell USD to someone who used it for anything funny?

Anybody can get flagged when the transactions reaches a treshold or ticks off a flag! Normal workers/contractors don't get paid by Western Union so that in itself is a flag.

Who's going to enforce the minimum wage? Is it the government that is always complaining that it is broke? Is it private companies who must justify wages with declining income and the challenging economy?

Even if you are successful at pressuring private companies to pay such wages, what stops them from passing the costs to consumers who are also consumers of their products and services?

In short, increasing wages without increasing profits is a fool's errand.....Ofutufete!

I only referenced the DNA aspect for EMPHASIS. Let me re-edit that post so that folks don't misquote me.

I read the FULL article and saw that the lady distanced herself away from the bum of rapist like you have stated here. It's really emotionally draining for that woman to have been violated by a man she only had contact with once.

A good U.S. attorney should be to argue in favor of the woman because Lyft or any other rideshare firm should properly profile their drivers.

Lyft can only be held responsible here if the incident was reported, there is little evidence against Lyft especially if they can show that the trip ended hours before the incident occured. Lyft can't be held responsible for what their drivers do OFF trip! That's why their drivers are contractors not employees!

Left has over 4000 cases of their drivers sexually assaulting their customers..
Yet some men here are trying to blame the women/victims.
Whether she reported the case 5 years ago when it happened or now, that doesn't change the fact that she was raped . There's evidence with the birth of a baby

You stated 4000 as if that means anything, 4000 out of 40 million rides is what? About 0.01%, Lyft authorized over 40 million rides per year in the USA alone, so because of 0.01% chance of something bad happening, all accusations should be believed? You see why evidence is very crucial in cases like this!

When they arrived at her destination, the driver allegedly insisted on helping her inside, “purportedly due to her intoxication,” and despite her protests. Once inside, he assaulted her repeatedly, the complaint states.

My take on this: Simply run a full DNA test on all the probable Lyft drivers as of 2019 to detect the alleged rapist. If it matches the DNA of the baby, then you have the culprit. A boy has a right to know his real father though regardless of the circumstances surrounding his birth.

Women get intoxicated easily than men because they do NOT have the same amount of the body enzyme, alcohol dehydrogenase that men have more of. Women have to take it easy on drinking alcohol when out clubbing or partying to avoid getting drunk and getting sexually assaulted or even killed afterwards by serial rapists. Period.

Did you read at all? Paternity test already confirms the father, I'm guessing the guy is a bum hence the bigger money maker is going after the rideshare company.

No you're not comprehending, you're justifying October 7th because you feel Hamas is fighting against injustice, so using that same ideology, Biafrans could also claim the same thing. Don't you see how ridiculous that sounds? You want to fight injustice with violence and expect peace? No be juju be that!

Same thing should we go to war with US because it is a terrorist state do you know how many Palestinians are killed every year for the past 75years do you know how many loose their house yearly for no reason because someone comes from Poland and claims his ancestors live there 3000 years ago. No one is fighting for them and when dey push back you called them terrorist no that not right

So according to you, if Biafrans should come into any Nigerian state and start kpaing people, they're justified becuase they've been marginalized and abused over the years? Violence begets violence right? So nobody should cry genocide, make all parties continue firing one another and let's see how it ends!

This would only be practicable if eviction laws are also updated! Failure to pay on the due date attracts 10% late fee and failure to pay 7 days after due date allows for automatic eviction with just one paperwork at the court. This is how it is done abroad and everyone is satisfied.

It's a good step on the right direction.

I guess this is rather coming late.

Nevertheless, implementation of the ban is what I look forward to see ..

We all need to support the government on this..

Take away packs have really caused enormous amounts of damage to our environment..

Imagine the blockage of our drainage system and depiction of the ozone layer when it's burnt 🔥🔥.

So our government thinks it is smarter than the U.S govt? Even UAE are gradually phasing it out by introducing alternatives but 9ja everything is done abruptly! Anyways anything that amplifies the suffering of the people is always the main aim of the Nigerian governemnt so we need not be SHOCKED!

Now compare a 20% growth of a Nigerian stock to a 10% growth of a U.S based stock, now tell me which one would be considered world's best according to the current exchange rate.

Let's stop celebrating mediocrity, a 20% growth in stocks should be weighted against inflation and the country's current FX rate, like someone said earlier, all these propagandas won't work much longer!

BreconHills:

Everybody does not have their truth. A truth is a proven fact. But everybody is free to have an opinion but Everybody is not free to call their opinion a truth.

If you were sitting next to a passenger in an open cockpit plane and he/she said, I am going to take over this plane forcibly, I believe I can shave an hour off this flight. If on getting up you asked " so you are a pilot?" And next he replies with " I haven't had formal training but it's my truth that I can do anything" would you say "go for it bro" or would you wrestle him to the floor. Or would you allow a nurse perform neural surgery on your family member because she believes she can?

Or maybe you want to light up on weed in a no smoking zone restaurant or even a plane and claim it is your truth. You will be rapidly exited/disembarked and face an access or flying ban.

It's not about Macaroni, it's about that idea that everybody has a personal truth that they must be free to live by. If you had said "personal opinion" I would not have blinked an eyelid. The idea of a personal truth is an oxymoron. For something to be respected as a truth in a public space it must be tested and approved by a generality of people and the law must cover it. If not it must be kept private.

Good analysis but you're mistaken! Personal truth does not have to be factual to the public but to the person making the claim. Example, you grew up in Mushin, saw people addicted to weed and so on, if tomorrow you said your personal truth is that weed is bad......Public facts might disagree with you but your personal truth still remains, you lived it, witnessed it and hence it is your TRUTH!

Even the example of the nurse and passenger still remains their personal truth abeit extreme, it is still their belief! It can be formed through experience, delusions etc. but it is still theirs.
Family / Re: As I'm Enduring This, Am I Really Making My Children Better? by abbey621(m): 2:59pm On Dec 23, 2023
People hold elaborate weddings, go to church and take the oath for better or worse, they enjoy the better but protest vehemently against the worst!

This situation is a case of a chronic gambler struggling with addiction, there's no sign of violence just a man that you knew was a gambler and you married him anyways, now you're acting all new as if his behavior is strange to you.

Now you want to leave him, take his offspring and leave him in a state where he's even more susceptible to his gambling demons.....Women!

Let me shock you some more, if this guy actually hammered from his gambling, I can confidently say that you wouldn't have problem with it, you wouldn't see it as a bad role model for your child and that in itself says a lot!

Now with that said, leaving him is probably the best solution for this situation. It will either break or make him! Since rehabilitation is a foreign concept to most Nigerians, the man must be baptized through trials and tribulations, there's simply no other way! He must hit rock bottom before iyanu can shele!

Your final summary is the crux of all our back and forth really. Every other thing we are doing is just mental gymnastics. If the business doesn't see a need to, we go just "spoil" our voice shouting on each other. If they decide to go the phone number route, na bye-bye from me. Loads of forums to spend time on rather than one that wants my phone number. Many people seem to forget that this is a forum and not a Facebook or Instagram for example

That's right, at the end of the day, the owner must balance the cost and effect between people like you who would say bye bye and the risk of being shutdown again by a host or other regulatory body.

MAC addresses will be spoofed. And this isn't from malicious attacks. iPhones can randomize your MAC for privacy reasons. I regularly turn it on. Add that to VPN and tools like Tor, that's going to be easy to beat

I write scripts and develop algorithms for a living, I can easily detect randomized MAC, VPN, any solution is better than the rubbish that exists now. My preference and the easier solution would be to require multi factor authentication for all users. Your Nairaland account is tied to your phone number, your phone number can never be a virtual or pseudo phone number(Google voice) but an actual number tied to a device but like you said it affects user base.

Ultimately, where there's a will, there's a way......The only person that can give a definite answer is Seun! Only he can say Niaraland is bringing so so in terms or frevenue and he's willing to spend so and so to sanitize it and protect it from trolls and spammers! You & I can argue all day but the ball's in his court!
