When a girl you want to marry ask you what do you do for a living. After answering her question, you should throw the question back at her. Let her answer. It goes both ways. Both parties are supposed to bring something to the table no matter how small.

I had it since I knew myself. Sometimes it becomes very big that draws people's attention while sometimes anyone will hardly notice it is there. I removed it in Nigeria last December and the cost was 150k.

johnnobles:

Oh really? How long did you live with it, and was it growing continuously, then lastly what did it cost you to remove it

I have spent 4 weeks in Nigeria. I visited from the US...I have a week more to go. My observation is that everything seems to be slow from waiting on the queue in the bank to gettng NIN biometric capturing, getting a DL to even buying stuffs at the supermarket or buying food at Mega chicken. ATM does not work most of the time and my card got swallowed up by the ATM 2 days after I arrived Nigeria. I entered the banking hall again here in Nigeria after so many years to rectify this issue.

I was not used to using my car horn initially but men I had to join the bandwagon when I saw a lot of people are not normal.
The heat is something else..I am the only one sweating outside when I am with people. Security men and some dont really ask for tip but I tip them and they appreciate it.

Oh the traffic on Lekki Epe expressway is a story for another day. That is one of my nightmare if I want to go out. it seems a lot of people are frustrated because they will curse you out on the road despite they are the ones at fault. Customer service is next to nothing. It shows a lot of people are not happy with their Job. All in all, I enjoy the people, family and friends.

Light issue has gotten far worse but thank God for solar and generator that runs all the time. I am really enjoying my time here with my people here till I go back.

Travel / Re: Have You Ever Been Denied Visa To A Country Before? Share Your Experience by abbeYhart(m): 11:56pm On Jul 10, 2021
I have been denied UK and lithuania visa before. I have never been a fan of living abroad especially UK even though circumstances do change and my reasons for travel have always been genuine. I remember the first time I wanted to go for my masters in UK..my dad was always like when are you going to apply for your masters. Anyways, I applied, got admission and did my masters in UK. The lithuania visa denial was for visit. My intentions are always genuine. I have never been desperate so the lithuania denial did not even move me one bit grin

The UK denial was what really pained me a little and I will explain why. I was going to visit and it would have been fully sponsored by my employer. Prior before then, I went to school in UK and got 2 years post study work permit after I graduated. I only used 3 months out of the post study work permit and went back to Nigeria. I still had like 21months to stay back in UK, work and make the pounds. Staying in UK was not really a do or die affair for me. This is why I was just kind of baffled that a country I spent several thousands of pounds to study, completed my program and went back to my country Nigeria despite having the option to stay back with post study work visa could deny my visit visa based on I don't have strong home ties is laughable. It now appears UK is all about the money unlike US. Life continues now wink

I understand a visa is a priviledge and not a right but at the same time consideration should be given to individual's travel history. You have given me the benefit of doubt once and I did not fail so why cant you trust me again this time around. I never even worked for one day while studying in UK till when I left and I lived very fine. The denial was very funny to me.

4 years after, at US interview for student visa for my second masters, the VO was surprised too and brought up the question that why was I denied a UK visa afterall I school there. I told her the reason which she had no problem with issuing me my US student visa. Well it is what it is.

All that is history now.. I have completed a second masters in United States and now a permanent resident in US. Circumstances do change when God needs you somewhere either you fancy it or not. Soon, I may decide to still visit UK with no need to apply for visa if I wish when I get my US citizenship in few months time cool

I discussed about this some few days ago. You can check my previous comment. Someone had a similar issue so let me advice you on what he did. The outcome was positive. Send an email to the school. Explain to them you were refused a visa due to this error.
They will correct the student funding part on your I20 to family funds and send you a new I20. Then go ahead to reapply but make sure you do not change any information you filled previously on your DS160 so it does not appear you are trying to beat the system. With this, you can easily explain to the VO in your next interview what you assume was the reason you were denied the last time.

KCVLB:
Good day all,
Great Job what you guys are doing.

Quick one, i applied for a F1 visa, sadly i was denied few days ago, before my interview date, i noticed my school made a mistake in my i20, by putting "personal funds" instead of family funds,as my source of funding. The interview was going well, until i was asked how am i going to pay for my trip, and i said my dad, immediately she typed for some seconds and handed me the blue slip.

Now, i have been working as a banker for about 3 years, i have saved some funds, and my bank statement shows a tranx count of about 30mill in about 1year, although closing bal is about 2m now.

Should i fill a new ds160 and maintain the personal funds and maybe i can expalin to the VO that i will he funding the trip then my dad can help out id need be? Or i should mail my school asking them to change my i20?

Please guys your inputs are appreciated.

Okay good @lessie. Your transcript looks good but you need to include the interest of the company as well with your answer to the question "why MBA"?. What does your company stand to benefit by investing so much funds in you getting an MBA is very important as well to the answer you give to this question. You mentioned it somewhere later in the transcript but the VO may not get to that question where you talked about it before making his or her decision. Try to add that to your answer to "why MBA"?.

In addition. Since you are switching from Biochemistry to MBA, you left out an important question. Where do you work and what do you do? The answer you give here is also very important. It should be convincing enough. I am sure you factored that already since you have already stated it in your DS 160

Good luck!

Use your brother as sponsor.

Adasino:
Good evening all, please I need your advice

I want to get my I-20 and my step brother is the main person sponsoring my education. My COA is 35k, I have a scholarship of 10k, deficit is 25k. I have like 9k in my personal account. Should I use myself and my brother as sponsors or should I use only my brother as my sponsor?

Note: my brother's account balance covers my COA

Someone who used them recently may be able to help you out but I think you can budget like 200 to 300 dollars. I remember it is something within that range when I used them.

Keep in mind that the total you pay differs from one person to another depending on the number of transcripts to be evaluated like for cases whereby you have like two degrees from two different universities. I also think you will pay a little for the transcripts to be forwarded to the universities. It may be different now. Someone who did recently may give you a more updated information

Wait until the admission process starts. I have applied to quite a number of universities here in the US and I can't remember when last anyone asked for hard copy of recommendation letter. Things are changing. Everyone is moving with new technology. Just wait.

SaAyomikun:
Good people of nairaland
I have a quick question, please

I graduated in 2019 from a federal university in Nigeria, finished my service last October and just got a job last month. My purpose for taking this job is simply to gather money cos I know applying for masters abroad (US) requires money. Now while working, I have decided to start gathering my documents and details little by little. Now, the thing is, I am a little confused in the area of recommendation letters from University lecturers cos I know it is an essential document. My question now is :

Please, is it advisable I go back to school to collect recommendation letters from my university lecturers (hard copy) or I wait until the admission process starts, so they can help me send them to the school via email ? (cos I read in a previous thread that some universities in the US take only recommendation letters sent from the lecturers e-mails. Please, which one of the two do US universities take more?

I'd appreciate honest and quick responses, please, help a naive young lad.

@lessie

Can you confirm what your university put as who is taking care of your deficit in your I20 under student funding? I am certian the VO is looking at that section once you mention you have full scholarship from your company.

1. Use your mum's statement. It is better that way..You may mention at the interview you also have personal savings towards the cost of your education.

2. If all what you fill in your application is right and your reason for further studies is true. questions like this is not necessary but I understand your anxiety. The choice is yours. Although I think it is better if you state you work for a company(use your company). Preferably, it is better if your company has a role related to what you want to study in US. Use that position. Try not to be too far away from being honest. You can easily defend what you do since you are the CEO. You don't need to reveal you own the company. I want to assume you own the company.

3. The rate you see when you google it online as at when you applied

All the best!

In order for you to get a useful advice from anyone here. You may need to state out a lot of things we are not privy of. It is important you share your transcripts on the 3 times u got a denial. What has changed about you since the time you got B1/B2 visa and the 8 times you visited the United states? Have you overstayed any of the times you visited US?

You stand a better chance of getting a US student visa with MBA if you apply to a top school in US. Also, your work experience in Nigeria plays a big role. Are u in a middle level management position or entry level in your career? There are a lot of factors. It is expected you should have acquired some years of work experience before going for MBA. Share your denial interview transcripts.

[quote author=Approvalll post=102814342]Hello everyone I just got my I20 I have no funding from the school my tuition will be funded by my parents i will be going for my MBA i have been denied student visa about 3 times in the past under the 214 b reason the last time I was denied was in January 2020 even though I’ve been to the US about 8 times since I was a little kid on a B1/B2 visa I have tried to get funding from the school
Travel / Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 16 by abbeYhart(m): 1:50pm On Jun 15, 2021
Congrats to all those who got their approvals. For those who have their interview coming up, I wish you success and those whose visa was delayed, consider giving it one more shot and get your visa. I remember as far back as 2016 when I also went for my interview and got my US F1 student visa approved. I shared my transcript here with another account though (CBNL2014). A lot of more achievement has happened in 4yrs plus including graduating from my program with good grades, getting a job, getting my permanent residency and so on.

Not to bore you guys much. I discovered something on I20 which I feel you might need to pay attention. I have someone who went for his interview and was denied due to the VO misunderstanding the student funding part of the I-20. He had his deficit under student funding as personal funds despite his uncle is going tonsponsor him. He also submitted his uncle's bank statement to the university before the I20 was issued. It is not his fault but the university's fault. The interview did not last past 20 seconds because the VO asked "I can see you are sponsoring yourself, how do you intend to fund your studies?" He replied No, his uncle will be sponsoring the cost of his studies and went further to state what he does.

I don't know if this has been addressed here before but let me clarify what I discovered. Universities in US have two different ways they prepare the student funding part if the I-20. For some, you have "personal funds, funds from this school, funds from another source and on-campus employment" while other universities have personal funds, funds from this school, family funds and on-campus employment". Regardless of which bank statement you submit to the school..either personal bank statement or sponsor's bank statement or both, most universities that adopt the first method put the funds as personal funds which is causing problem during interview that leads to denial. A lot of people may have been denied due to this little error without knowing.

Going forward, I don't know if it is possible to ensure the university you intend going adopt this second method where the deficit is stated under family funds to avoid any contradiction during interview most especially as VO don't usually tell where the problem is before denial. This applies to people with no funding from the school whatsoever. It is just my little observation which I feel might help someone.

Cheers!

Travel / Re: 15 Million Naira Cash Or Work Permit In The United State by abbeYhart(m): 8:15pm On May 16, 2021
15m is not a lot of money when converted to US dollars. I live here in the US and I see a lot of Nigerians who are doing non professional jobs that have more than this in savings (through prudent spending and doing lots of overtime and were able to have this saved up in 2 years) . So you can imagine when you now do professional jobs with your work permit that pays even more, you can definitely have far more than this within a year saved up somewhere and also even invest in other areas to increase your savings.
The truth is there is always a job for you to do in US if you are not lazy..you will definitely continue to make money but if you take the 15m naira and do business in Nigeria and things don't go the way you planned it, that is the end.
Let's not even talk about other benefit you will enjoy in US so yes if I were to be in Nigeria and I am to pick between having a work permit to work in US or 15m..I would go for the work permit.

Buy phones from UK or US and sell in Nigeria. You can make a lot of gain from it. I am based in US so i am very sure of it. It is something i do by the side...as an additional source of income.
