abdullahi45: Hello Gurus in the house, I need your advice please I am a very young graduate from a uni in naija, I am currently doing my NYSC and like you know the passing out and receiving of NYSC certificate is by October.... The problem is that, i am trying to apply to schools for September 2017 entry and with hope, I am very likely to get admission (by God grace).. Is it not too risky? can that cause a problem with the VO if i am called for visa? What do you advise gurus.... Or are they less concern about the NYSC palaver?
Or should i just apply for January 2018 entry? What do you suggest Gurus? . Someone should please reply me? |

I am an admission seeker like you praying for God's favour. [/quote]I got a cgpa more than 4.40, i study Microbiology and I would like to proceed for my Msc at a University in Canada. My question is what do you advice based on Nigerian system of Education that impart more theory in students than practical, a coursework or research (thesis) based Master program?? My fear is how to adapt if am only subjected to less dependent research work.... Are Nigerians adapting with thesis based program. And i believe course based program has both coursework and practicum.... What do you people advise please. Secondly, i have an uncle that's a very far cousin and doesn't share my surname, can he be my sponsor. If NO how can i improvise Is it necessary i provide two different accounts with two different SOA.... ?? |

Osemigho: I am admission seeker like you. Let me motivate you with my story.
I applied to 3 schools last year. 1 of which require a supervisor which I got one. I was refused admission in the 3 schools.
Restarted around july 2016 to email supervisors again. In the supervisor search race, I can divide it to two things with varying responses.
1 stage was July - late October 2016, I sent email to about 50+ professors with no proposal. Only about 2 responded positively, one which interviewed/skyped me, sent several papers to me to read and use to develop a research proposal. Developed something a little out of her field. he/she went further to get other Supervisors in my new field to support my app with the proposal. The other one, in a different school, gave me just yes and said I should apply. No extra support no proposal development.
Stage 2- November - December 20th 2016, I sent new email to several professors again. Specifying the research I want to do and attaching the propos of stage 1 above to the email. I got "no space too" but with a different tone. It is more of referal to other professors in their school and even other schools. I even got two "yes" and one referral in one program alone on the same day. But [/b]admission is still not guaranteed[/b].
In Canadian supervisor, admission and visa race, favour and diligence is what you need.
I pray God will favour us all. Amen!
Good luck bro. No matter what, try not to give up.

miella: You can apply if the deadline for your choice of program has not passed. It is free. I think they waived it for Nigerians because of the international spending limit (not too sure). But the deadline for most programs has passed. Check the school website for more information. Please do you know any other university in Canada that has free application fees. Thanks |

SegunWamiri: You need not bother yourself with No. 1 at least for now except you are interested in migrating. Meanwhile, there is another thread where you can read up on that: https://www.nairaland.com/3053069/general-guide-australian-permanent-resident
Yes, your Uncle can be your sponsor but you would need proof that you are related. E.g. His birth certificate and your mother's assuming he is from your mum's family. Other documents could be mum's marriage certificate or sworn affidavit for change of name. |

Osemigho: UBC, yes. Uof Manitoba, last year not now. UWO, no cos Couldn't get a supervisor.
Your have to climb the admission bridge before the Visa own. But you can strategize for the future and not worry about it.. It is well.. I want to know how to begin my journey, i would like to apply for September 2017 entry and i will likely start the application by Jan or February.... Can i still meet up with the visa wahala after being given admission. Is it not too short.... How many months can you advice someone to have between time of application and finishing? |
