Thanks and do justice to these:
1.What is the correct cement :sand mix for laying blocks.
2.I always read 1:2:4 as standard for concrete mix but I have not seen the builders implement such. what I normarly is 1 bag of cement:8head pans of sand :10headpans of stone. Or sand and stone will be made equal 8:8.
Thanks and b blessed.
In order to achieve a minimum concrete strength of 25N/mm2, a mix ratio of 1:2:4 ( 1bag of cement to four head pan of sand and 8 head of gravel. The sand most be clay free, The gravel must be retained on 20mm sieve. Water for the mixture must be drinkable and water to cement ratio can either be 0.45 or 0.55

Note the following:
1. The more the water content of a concrete the weaker the concrete
2. Most of concrete strength comes from the coarse aggregates (gravel)
3. Cement serve as a binder
4. Sand help to filled the void space between gravel and increase the volume of concrete

The correct mix for laying blocks is 1:6
One bag of cement to 12 head pan of sharp sand

From your post, I understand that I will need 20 rods for the longitudinal pillars, 15 links.....i dont get that part, please help break that down in layman's term, 12 bags of cement, 1 ton sand, 3 ton gravel

then for the 2 arcs, i need 3 rods, 2 bags of cement, 1 bar of Y8 rod, then use from the above sand and gravel.

please, help do the math for pillar base mat and doors and windows too..thanks

for the columns
the height of 6'' block is = 225m
15 courses = 15 x 225 = 3375mm
assuming a thickness of mortar of 2omm = 20 x 15 = 300mm
total height of column = 3375 + 300 = 3.675m

column reinforcement length = main height ( 3.675) + bottom anchorage ( 0.15) + top anchorage (0.15) = 3.975m
y12 length is 12.3m, No of bars = 12.3/4 = 3bars

Bar required per column = 4
total Number = 4 x 15 = 60
No of bars required = 60/3 = 20bars for the longitudinal reinforcement

for the rings using Y8 and spacing of 300mm c/c
length of links for a rectangular column of 225 x 150 ( due to the 6'' side) and allowing for cover of 20mm
L= 900mm
Number of links in a column with 3000mm spacing = 13 links
No of L in one length of bar = 12.3/0.9 = 13links
Total number of Y8 required for the link = 15Y8

for the concrete
volume of concrete = 0.225 x 0.15 x 4 =0.135m3/column
total volume of all the 15 columns = 0.135 x 15 =2.025m3
using a mix ratio of 1:2:4
part of cement = 2.025 x 1/7 x 1506/50 =9bags of cement ( use 12 bags allowance for shrinkage and wastage)
part of sand = 2.025 x 2/7 x 1.6 =1tonnes of sharp sand
part of gravel = 2.025 x4/7 x 2.4 = 3tonnes of gravel

summary for the column reinforcement
s/n Descriptions Quantity unit rate amount
1. Y12 20 Nr N1,200 N24,000

PropertiesRe: Construction Of A Mansionate Storey Building Of 3bedroom Flat In Ondo State by abdulwastecx(m):
The 3D is fine but I observe the following
1. The pad footing is inadequate
Land in ondo and it's environs have a bearing capacity between the range of 150 - 200kN/m2.
With this bearing capacity you need a pad footing of minimum 1200mm x 1200mm for the duplex.

2. The depth of the foundation is inadequate
Foundation depth is a function of groundwater and soil conditions. A duplex should have a minimum depth of 900mm to the surface of the strip supporting the foundations wall

3. The thickness of the pad can be a minimum of 300mm while that of the strip carrying the foundation wall can be 150mm since the load is carried by the column in a frame building

Thanks for this info. Is the trip of sand 5 ton or 10 ton? I want to ask you how many trips of 5 ton sharp sand can set (not mould) 5000 blocks? Thanks
A bag of cement will set 60blocks using a mix ratio of 1:6.
You need 83bags of cement for the 5000blocks
You need about 25tonnes of sharp sand to lay the block

Block moulding
1. One trip of sand
2. 30bags of cement
3. N800/bag to mould the block

We actually get 30blocks/bag and we get 30bagsper each trip of sand

Total blocks per trip of sand = 900blocks

The block is stronger and cheaper by N50/block

my question is what is the percentage of Nigerians that are earning 50k and above?

is marriage a form of employement or lottery for women?

In a country where more than 60% of the population are unemployed, poor etc and where minimum wage is less than 30k... getting a basic salary of 50k /month is not a bad thing

excavation work.
depth of excavation = 900mm
width of excabavation = 675mm
calculated perimeter of excavation =880m
rate of excavation = N500/m
expected duration of excavation assuming 40 labourers with capacity of 15m/ day
= 880/(15 × 40) = 1.48days.

actual excavation
perimeter of excavation = 860m( very close to the calculated perimeter)
duration of excavation : it took us two days to complete the excavation. the work was completed 2.0pm the next day.

cost of excavation = 500 x 860 = N430, 000
logistics = N15, 000
total = N445, 000
