we have received many news reports in the past few years of sa women complaining of been abused and called harlots each time they go to immigration to renew their husbands visas. this article carries more weight than all of you are giving it. i also love the part about complaining about non existing jobs instead of starting a business. sa men are in serious need of self examination.

bros, here in the north, men are free to marry upto four wives and some marry more but they tend to marry mostly child brides and divorce them a few years later, the result is we have uncountable ladies aged twenty and above desperately searching for husbands without success. summary, polygamy is not the solution

Which Rivers website, it can never be an official Rivers website. A snapshot should follow your claims.

Pazienza i am Ikwerre and can surely tell you my people take it badly whenever they are referred to as Igbos, it is about the worst insult you can give an Ikwerreman.

If we are Igbos, what then was the point of ensuring we are recognised as a separate entity.

The Ikwerres and Igbos share common boundary so it shouldn't come as a surprise when words, traditions and customs are sometimes shared, but it doesn't necessarily make us the same people.

If you wanted to experience the sentiment firsthand, then i suggest you come into an Ikwerre gathering and tell them they are Igbos.

You wouldn't do that in yoir right senses.
i sincerely doubt you're an ikwerre youth, Duncan mighty always declare himself as an ikwerre igbo, i did youth service with ikwerre boys and they did the prayer of the faithful (ekpere ndi kwerenu) in ikwerre dialect and nobody complained. it's normal if you don't feel like igbo, it's your right but nobody insulted rotimi amaechi for claiming igbo while accusing Jonathan of been non igbo and challenging him to speak the language. you would achieve nothing from derailing this thread. You may have a point, but what am trying to make you see is that, Buhari does not need to build 30,000 plants for the country to generate 30000 MW.
then we are almost saying the same thing but the difference is that it's not technically or financially possible to achieve that in four years. he told a blatant white faced lie. the simple truth is that obasanjo messed up the power sector and the Jonathan approach even though laced with capitalistic corruption was the only viable approach. Nigerians power problem can't be solved in four years, not even in eight because of the deeds of past leaders.

How many years did it take to build gorges dam? I bet not in four years. The preliminary work alone wich includes environmental impact assessment, resettlement, etc will take close to the four years.
i don't even want to go to the technical and financial aspect of building such a modern wonder because it's not even feasible in Nigeria. buhari did not even say how he will achieve such a miracle yet some fellows are running around in circles and tying themselves into knots trying to defend the impossible.

I have come to the conclusion that you are not only silly, you must be a brother to that lier barcanistar! For your information, Three Gorges Dam in Hubei, China, has the world's largest instantaneous generating capacity (22,500 MW), with the Itaipu Dam in Brazil/Paraguay in second place (14,000 MW). So we don't need 30,000 power plant to achieve jus 20,000MW!
quickly resorting to insults shows lack of logic. do you even know what is a gorge, what part of a river it is found and condition of its formation? pls tell me where and when buhari will build a three gorge dam to generate 22,500MW of electricity instantaneously in Nigeria, that is what we call facts not resorting to citing an extreme example to wipe up sentiments.

Can you just for the sake of information list out those power plants being constructed and their capacity. this will enable us to know how much we will have on completion and attributes its success to GEJ.
pls I'm very busy now but you can get the list of ten such projects complete with their capacity and location on this newspaper page www.thisdaylive.com/articles/fg-unveils-timelines-for-completion-of-10-nipp-plants/150756/. the total number is more than the listed ten. for example, the almost 800 megawatts been constructed in zungeru by the Chinese is not listed, you can run Google searches for more large projects going on especially here in the north.

Well, the context I am looking at the discussions from is based on building brand new power plants totalling 20000MW capacity. But let's look at ur argument here, telling us APC promised 3000MW is not the issue. We all know about their promises. Wat we are evaluating is d possibility of those promises being met-in this case power. All those things u stated up there are just theories. Increasing power capacity is a deliberate and sustained effort over a period of time. 4 years is too short to get to 20,000MW assuming the high tempo we have now is sustained. 20,000MW in 4years is political talk. 10,000MW is more realistic.
10,000megawatts is feasible and if achieved is enough to get any band of illiterate thieves re-elected but at the rate things are going, any improvement in the next four years would be as a result of the completion of the power plants currently been constructed by goodluck

pls argue reasonably. Any power plant has to be close to source. It is a sheer foolishness to site gas power plant in the North currently as things are.
Likewise hydro in the SE/SS. It is not water that matters it is the velocity of flow of water. Did you know that Nigeria supplies Niger republic upto Mali with electricity? Even if we dont have we must give them. Why?
Becouse we dont want Niger rep. To build hydro on the river niger. If they build a dam that means Nigerias two baseload stations Shiroro and Kainji have to be given up becouse they cant produce electricity.
And yes nuclear plants most likely will be sited in the North due to engineering technicalities and for cooling water they have to be sited close to river niger or benue.
Maybe in the future when Nigeria started tapping oil from our part of the chad basin just like chad and niger republic are currently doing we can site gas stations in the north before then it is a folly adventure
pls you're deviating from the issue at hand. pls tell how the narrow, sluggish and seasonal rivers in Niger state flow faster than those in the se and ss.

In the case of gas, under the NIPP project, the nearest power station to a major gas pipeline is 90km. That is why Prof. Nebo was shouting about vandalism, OBJ didn't plan the siting of power plants well. How can gas be in SS and you locate 3 power plants in the southwest and one in Kogi? Does that make sense? Do you know the km of pipelines that has to be laid including metering stations to reduce or sustain gas pressure to the gas turbines? Ordinary Geometric power plant in Aba has to lay 27km of pipeline alone. GEJ saw hell with the NIPP project, the guy saw that gov't couldn't sustain it hence he privatised the power sector.

For power generation through coal i know of one private company, Zuma Energy, that is currently working to achieve 1200MW. For hydro, lots of work regarding environmental, resettlement, logistics, finance and civil engineering most especially has to be done and this can take 4 - 5 years. Currently, am happy with the effort GEJ put in order to get Zungeru and Mambila of the ground but more needs to be done. Nuclear power plant is one of the most complicated plants because you major concern is safety, environmental and waste disposal.

That's why as an insider in the power sector, i laughed when Fashola said 8 months and GMB said 4 - 5 years. I don't like arguing with GMB fans because no matter how you want them to see things from your point of view they are not willing. Since GMB is a miracle worker, the part of the bible where God said "LET THERE BE LIGHT" is what am expecting from GMB and when he says this, wires and towers should appear and string themselves, gas/coal/hydro/nuclear/solar etc power plants with an ok tariff should also be in place. grin grin grin grin grin
your post is the most comprehensive and reasonable so far. I'm currently at zungeru and it pains me that president goodluck Jonathan won't be on seat when this magnificent work of his gets completed and goes into operation. obasanjo regime was the major cause of our problem today. he spent over 1 trillion dollars on electricity without anything to show for it.i don't want to even talk about his policies on steel, sea ports, cement manufacturing etc yet he turned around to work against Jonathan. that man is a curse on this nation and a known cia agent

No sir, it is technically feasible and economically viable. Don't forget the APC promised 3000mw yearly.

Presently, the power stations in Nigeria have a capacity of 8000mw with some having provision for expansion. With proper maintenance, we can achieve up to 7,500mw in less than a year.
We also have the mambilla project with can generate 3000mw which I believe can be completed in two years along side other mini stations like the Kano and zamfara power station.

My friend, there are many ways we can have appreciable increase in power capacity even if not up to the proposed 20000mw, but I believe it is achievable.
thanks once again for accepting that the promise is not feasible and any improvements in the next four years would be as a result of power plants currently been constructed by gej

a nuclear power plant anywhere in the north is a well planned disaster. but in Nigeria, every major work must be in the north cos they won the civil war.our current energy crisis is worsened by the location of hydroelectric projects in the north which leads to the poor supply during the long dry season there. the kaduna refinery is quoted in textbooks worldwide as an example of a plain stupid economic decision influenced solely by political consideration.

Very true statement. We need at least 10 years with major drive and financial investment to achieve this feat. Also, the issue of tariffs is a discussion for another day.
it's achievable in the south south and south east in four years using gas, coal and hydro by a nationalistic leader who can motivate the states and ordinary citizens to pay for some of the expenses through investment shares but buhari lacks the needed education and qualities needed to achieve that. remember the Lagos rail project he canceled. gej power plants currently under construction is a step in the right direction. it's unfortunate they will be coming into operation long after he has left power.

this shows your lack of knowledge in Engineering. If Nuclear plant is going to be cited in Nigeria Lagos will be the least probable site location for many reasons.
I can assure you the chinese or russians can finish the plant in less than 3 years. Why? Europeans when working tend to have lower working hours/day, weekend, breaks, resting periods, lower number of laborers while chinese mostly work in shifts (24 hrs/day), can forfeit weekends, holidays if they are really pressed and also take large number of laborers for the shifts and speed.
Save your breath about standards we have nuclear power plants built by both Chinese and western countries all over the world go and check statistics of Nuclear power plants mishaps and see who have lower mishaps chinese or europeans.
And before you jump at fukoshima, it is an american/japanese design and construction.
Engineering is not politics
pls make your points without been offensive. your write up is full of talks but lack facts and context. I'm not the one that advocated a nuclear power plant for Lagos, i only laughed at the plain stupidity of the idea, second, nuclear power plants require a lot of water for cooling, i guess that makes borno state the perfect site for it. maybe buhari will cool it with the water he promised to channel to Nigeria from central Africa republic.

all the states of the south south and south east have enough gas deposits to produce all their energy needs from cheap and safe source. like i said earlier building a nuclear power plant in Lagos especially by the Russians and Chinese will be worse than chynobell.

As much as I believe criticisms are healthy for our government, I feel it should only be done where appropriate.

Predicting the failure in the area where one isn't familiar with shows a greater attribute of immaturity.

All we want is for the government to deliver. If other countries less endowed with resources than Nigeria can achieve all these positive development that these pessimists on nairandland believe are impossible, why can't we?
