Coz I am already under a contract with a company that is training me for 6 months. The contract say I have to work for them for them once I am done. They will pay oooooo. But if I drop out of their teaching or fail to work for them. I have to pay them certain amount of money. Over 1 million or so. Where I wan see that money.
And I don't want to specialize in front end. Back end is what I chose. What's the company name brr, I'm thinking to tow this path also. As I'm not 100% guarantee on Alx after 1year. |

ThierryJay: So this is the Bruno that some fake Man Utd fans are saying is not good enough for the team yet he almost scored 2 sensational goals.
Obviously and rightfully, Ten Hag has way more sense than some Pendu fans here who would rather sacrifice the team's progress for Wasiuuu's ego.
Between Bruno and Ronaldo who is currently undroppable? Keep quiet. Bruno has been a big problem for man utd team for past seasons till now. No creativity, awful passes and lost possession so easily. Out of 10 chances he only manage to utilise one or two and lost others. Any team who holds possession better than us can easily flog our ass out. As for Ronaldo, the only reason I'm in support of benching isn't because he isn't good enough to start but because other players are keen on looking for a way get the ball to him at front of goal which is always at the detriment of the team. |

” Atiku has a ticket, nobody is saying it’s a Fulani ticket. But Peter Obi got a ticket and everybody is shouting:’It’s Igbo presidency. Some even try to link him with the Biafra agitation.

UyaiIncomparabl: A software engineer is the most versatile and future-proof career.
There are several times more software engineering jobs than data engineering and data science combined.
A good software engineer can easily learn data infrastructure patterns and become a data engineer in 4–8 weeks.
A good software engineer can easily learn applied statistics and machine learning and become a data scientist in 8–12 weeks.
A good software engineer can easily lateral within their company and become a product manager in 1–2 weeks.
A good software engineer can easily build a web or mobile app on nights and weekends to bootstrap a startup without any VC funding in a few months.

Alx isn't for working class I guess cuz it consumes most of your time, I'm also in my fourth month of the program all thanks to ASUU strike. I felt even worse than the OP at the first two month even after giving it the required 10hrs daily. My advise for anyone opting for Alx
Don't try to go or study alone, it's easier having a group where anyone who's stuck can seek help and get solution in no time cuz even with googling there are times you won't get the logic behind a concept but a peer can put you through easily. |

Hey man! Go sign up for the next cohort on Alx Software engineering. You'll learn the basics of programming both front end and back end for nine months and specialized in any of FE or BE for the next three months. I suggest Alx for the following reasons.
1. Don't let anyone sweet talk you to make u think programming is easy, it's a though and bumpy ride and only the willing and strong mind survives.
2. With Alx you can study in group together to achieve same goal rather than learning stuff alone, most times it's get boring. Like the saying "If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together. Choose wisely.
3. If you can't dedicate 10hrs of study daily on Alx SE don't bother heeding to this advise. |

Hannania: It's not a problem. Every junior developer has that stage. The solution is spaced repetition. The neurons in your brain are like kids, the more they are presented with a concept, the more they stick to it.
I believe your next sprint in ALX should be python. My advice, just forget about C(You won't use it in your job). For python, make sure you program daily. Re-implement every data structure taught in C to you guys in Python and start building mini projects with it.
The more you program, the more the syntax stick. Thanks for this reply cuz it's relieving as I am stressing out day nd night to get the C basic. I'm also in same cohort with the guy u replied with this answer, what's not clear to me is that you said we wouldn't be needing C at the job when Alx major language is C, cuz going by the curriculum, C is the chief language in there. My question now is, how do you come to a conclusion that we wouldn't be needing C at the job? Do you mean to say it doesn't worth it learning C ? Thanks. |

Anonymous6o6: I can agree and disagree on this depending on how I chose to go about it.
The whole essence of being on slack is to bond with your peers and meet them for help if you're having any difficulties.
I for one am in a lot of ALX groups which helped me. It's not 90% study. Some of us held google meeting and explained the concepts of what we have learnt previously.
I'm not disputing the fact that you have to study on your own but whenever you are stuck and you meet your peers, they will help you! Unless you feel too shy to ask for help Yah, I'm not disputing the fact that you can get help from a peer group, you may be lucky to have a good peer which makes it seem easy on your path, but I can tell you that there are more who wish to get help but couldn't, not that people ain't willing to help but they also are so engrossed in their own stuff to catch up with before deadline. All in all bruh Alx is more of self study, but u can't still get a help which might not come handy within the time frame. |

irynterri: Go for decagon, Alx is 70% self study and 30% peer study. Alx will only give you materials, they don't really teach. learning22: About two months ago, the curiosity in me to switch careers from what I studied in the University to Tech was awoken after searching for a job for over five years of graduation with nothing tangible to show for it apart from all these demeaning jobs around in Nigeria.
I wouldn't say I know nothing about programming because I borrowed some programming courses in the University back then from the Computer Science department, where python, which is one of the languages being talked about now happens to be one of them. But the truth of the matter is that I only read those courses to pass, and not to understand, let alone apply it to any real life situation.
That's to inform my readers that at least I am not ignorant to programming languages. Note: I said programming languages and not programming.
Maybe I should conclude that the programming courses I did then exposed my knowledge to something called programming languages.
By counting, this year will make it 10 years of doing those programming courses and I have practically forgotten everything I did then.
The only thing I can remember now is that there is something called programming languages which are used in the world of technology to solve problems. But when it comes to how to use it to solve the problem, I really don't have any idea.
Fast forward to the two months I mentioned at the early part of my write-up. After reading threads here on nairaland I could practically tell you that I have finished even threads having more than 125 pages on the programming section.
This has given me a little eye opener on programming and its application and many latest programming languages and the opportunity in it if chosen as a career path.
That being said, I have made the determination to switch from what I read to have a career in tech and to take it full time.
My concern now is that I don't really trust myself in self learning, that is to say I am not sure I will be effective at self learning as so many people here did successfully, as I wouldn't want the boredom of taking too much time to get things right be a discouragement. This is due to our individual difference when it comes to learning. But I am very sure that I can perform brilliantly if I will be training in any training institute.
The challenge now is that I have read about some nairalanders here condemning those training institutes with the claims that they don't train effectively saying they are just after the trainees money.
This is giving me a huge concern, because I have research on some training institutes online with most of them located in Lagos.
Some of them are Decagon and Univercity which are the ones I may finally opt for after seeking advice from you guys at the same time looking at some things from my side too in order to make the final decision.
One of the institutes I mentioned above charges 1m while the other charges close to 3.3m.
The money may not be the problem, but the problem lies in the value of service they render if it is worth paying those amounts for.
Decagon promises to get students jobs on graduation, I wouldn't know how true this is, part of what makes me to create this thread.
In the course of researching, I came across ALX Africa, I applied and the application was successfully, class to begin online by next month.
They also said they help their graduates secure jobs on graduation. But my challenges are the following
Power/Electricity: No explanation on this for fellow Nigerians
Time: As one has to be able to make 70 hours per week for the classes according to them. Implying that one will have to be online at least 10hours per day for 12 months for classes which I'm not seeing as 90% practicable here in this part of the world.
Ability to self train.
So, please should I forgo the institutes for the ALX Africa which is starting by next month and try to make everything work or I should prioritize the institutes.
Decagon promises to accommodate students, feed students, give students training materials, laptops inclusive and help to secure a job after graduation.
Please elder in this house kindly give your lucid advice
Cc: tensazangetsu20 TheManOfTheYear Ayinke93 I would also advise you to opt for decagon, Alx is 90 % self study, and most time you get depressed when u could not find a head way to get task done before deadline. Another problem I have with Alx is that u don't get much time to research and study what is needed to get task done before deadline. And most time it's feel like u ain't learning anything but if you are a bit smarter and understand all the concept which Alx is taking u through, the sky isn't your limit. |

Anonymous6o6: It seriously hasn't been easy.
One thing I wanna explain to all those intending to apply. Please get the materials and prepare ahead.
This message is not to discourage anyone please but to help individuals who intend to finish the program.
A friend of mine told me that last year, out of 24,000 students that applied for his set, only 4000 graduated. Not because they weren't serious enough to continue but some had to drop out probably because they didn't make up to 80% score in the first month. Some because of the workload and projects.
Let me give you a break down using python as an instance. You will be sent materials to read and watch on python with several projects to do for a couple of days. You aren't just getting projects from python alone, and at most you're required to finish reading the materials in a day or two. Then comes to projects.
All emphasis is that you should always prepared five steps ahead. My grade has not been good not because the project is too difficult but because of chance and at times, the checker drives me crazy.
I finished my projects on Git with my working laptop, though I didn't do it on the sandbox, I did it with git bash and linked it to my GitHub only to realize I wasn't scored!! I had to redo it all over again using the sandbox.
From the picture below was how I realized that I wasn't scored that day. It's sad and same time enlightening about your predicaments. I want to ask that is it your mobile phone you have been using to do your projects? If yes, was it the reason you were not graded on your projects? Thank. I sent my email and phone number of my siggy still haven't received the pdf you promised. |
