Awka City Stadium to be commissioned for public use soon - Obiano.
Someone should tell Obiano that he really should not be taking his children around in government convoys on these kind of official trips. Not with the crazy police attachment that follows them and level of insecurity.

Good to see they are working on parking lot. Soludo should rebrand the area Awka Sports Complex and add other facilities to ensure it is utilised and not become shelter for aboki and abakaliki boys at night.

When you look at the latest video from awka millennium City and look at there estate plan below you will notice they are working with exactly everything on the plan they have a lot of recreation parks too unlike many estates in Nigeria today where they only care about money they just clear the land and people will start building houses and digging boreholes here and there no parks and other amenities
Clem has class. From telecoms to real estate development.

I think going by when they started work on the estate they are very fast, the mou was signed around June/July 2019 they moved to site in October 2019 despite covid 19 they've mapped out all the roads and sand filled all of them now they are doing interlocking, they want to plan the estate before construction of homes, you know one thing about our people they are always impatient
Clem is building it like a modern estate. It will be nice when its complete especially with the park space and water supply. The only negative is that many of those plots will require sandfilling since they sit on swampy land.

Obiano should have added construction of more pavilion to the contract I don't know how much it will cost him to do that, I'm not surprise no body is even proud enough to post it here on nairaland, if it was the other way round the post would have hit front page by now
The stadium is a FIFA GOAL project. It is a field for training and development not full capacity crowds. The state government is following a pre specified design. It is a MINI stadium. They should use the rest of the land there to build other sporting facilities like basketball courts with support of NBA Africa, Tennis courts, Boxing/wrestling gym, Volleyball, swimming to make the place a mini sports complex for sports development. A full capacity stadium can be built elsewhere.

It's the fear of domination, no one wants to be dominated, and that's how they interpret Igbo actions. Moving to Lagos to establish a movie industry, the other ethnic groups, namely Yoruba people, would see it as an attempt to dominate. That's why they quickly established their own one, likewise in the North.

That's all the "other" groups think, when they see Igbo people making moves. Domination, Domination, Domination. It's that same mindset that drives them to knock down properties belonging to Igbo people.

That's the problem you're faced with when you have forced unions, ethnic groups that are very dissimilar from one another, living together in a single entity. The reality is, all men aren't created equally, and it's that same fear that's been the bedrock of the Nigerian mindset.

The only solution is capitulation, for Yoruba people to allow Igbo people to control everything within their domain or for Northerners to allow Igbo people to run all the businesses and control all of the wealth of their land. But we know that's NEVER going to happen.

P.S. Naturally, Igbo people would be "more" Nigerian than everyone else, because we stand to benefit more from that thinking. We're overwhelmingly the entrepreneurs, the business men and women. The builders, the traders, etc... and so, other regions within Nigeria would be looked at as fertile grounds. New lands to generate wealth and profits, at the expense of its current inhabitants (at least, that's how our actions will/would be interpreted).
Why don't those groups not fear American domination or British domination or Lebanese domination? The same igbos elicit similar fears in Cameroon, South Africa, Malaysia and so on for the very simple reason being that our tribe is very undiplomatic.

I once watched a program on CNN of an American billionaire who wanted to buy an oil block in South Sudan. He left his private jet at home, took commercial plane, then practically kneeled in front of the South Sudanese officials. They promised to get back to him. Thats diplomacy. If its an average Igbo trader, he is loud, arrogant and dismissive everywhere he goes.

Meanwhile the Europeans looting billions from Nigerian oil you will never see them cruising the streets of Lagos or Abuja in lambourghinis or making showy entrances at weddings. You just never see them.

Mark Zuckerberg who came to Nigeria was low-key, polite. He wore a suit to meet Nigerian government officials. Thats diplomacy.

Three killed, one abducted in Awka cult related clash

Published

on December 15, 2021

By Joe Chukindi

At least three persons, including two policemen, an unidentified woman were on Tuesday evening killed by unknown gunmen, suspected to be cultists.

A source said the gunmen blocked a red Toyota Corolla car being driven by a man identified as Snoop, who is also the leader of tricycle riders in Awka North and Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The source said Snoop was being accompanied by two armed policemen from the state Anti-Cult department when he was accosted, and that the two policemen lost their lives, while a woman who was passing by was hit by a stray bullet.

“Snoop himself was dragged out of his car and put in the trunk of the car driven by the assailants, while riffles belonging to the policemen were made away with,” the source said.

DAILY POST gathered that heavy shooting at the Unizik junction sent many people scampering for safety.

There has been heightened fear in Awka as a result of a proposed protest by members of the tricycle riders association, over a N4,000 levy being imposed on each tricycle rider in Awka North and Awka South Local Government Area, which was tagged Christmas party levy.

Some tricycle riders had protested the levy.

The Chief Convener of Recover Nigeria Project(RNP), Comrade Ositadimma Obi had stated that his group would join the tricycle riders on a protest on Wednesday.

There are fears that cult related clashes in Awka are mostly aggravated by tricycle riders.

As of the time of filing this report, the spokesperson of the Anambra State Police Command, DSP Toochukwu Ikenga was yet to react to the killing.

this is the kind of concrete road our government should consider if we are to start concrete road and not the local labourers
Quality roads require good sub base, drainage and ordinances. If you build road with packed laterite and asphalt on top, no matter how you slope it, it will surely fail quickly from unstable soil under.

People selling cement and iron rod or citing petrol stations inside towns hasten destruction of roads. The weight of a dangote trailer is over 40 tonnes. A 33,000 litre petrol tanker weighs over 25 tonnes. The load bearing weight of a local road is far lower. All those delivery trucks that carry drinks, sacks of rice, vegetable oil to markets inside towns destroy the roads.

Most modern cities have integrated drainage systems and well constructed roads. They separate residential from commercial by siting petrol stations, warehouses and shopping malls along wide 3 lane avenues and expressways. In Nigeria authorities allow markets to grow without control anywhere and anyhow. Only in Nigeria will you see a market on a local single lane road with an entrance barely wide enough for a trailer to be using to enter to offload.

That is if they leave it like that.
There is something called "working on your strong points". If Anambra Airport capitalise on their strong points and maintain the basics, she will edge out Lagos and Abuja.

The same can be said for the stadium. Had it been they made it only football stadium, they would have edged out all the stadiums in not just Nigeria but the entire west Africa. It will become the first choice for football in West Africa because she will be the only stadium designed for just football in the entire West Africa.

Anyways, the did has been done. On the bright side the stadium is small and looks like it will be easily maintained, so it is up to the state Government not to allow such manageable piece to ruin in their care.
But there is still a window to make the football only stadium a reality.

These are simple things that you do to edge out competitors. Working on your strong points and maintaining the basics.
The terminal is ok . What matters is that it is a starting point. The state should now focus heavily on a holistic redesign of the transport infrastructure of the state.

1) 20-40 seater City buses with concessional operators should replace keke and shuttle in next 5 years with planned routes and schedules for Awka metropolitan and Onitsha. This will improve livability.

2) Central Bus stations with offices, conveniences and shops should be built for inter City and intra state bus companies to pick up and drop off passengers from.

3) Every city has to be designed with at least 5 wide avenues for traffic flow and connecting streets. The maze design of roads in Nigerian cities is for villages. Modern cities have grid networks to make transport and delivery of other city utilities like water, sewage, waste disposal easier. Awka should be planned by expanding and planning roads towards Awka North. The Old Town of Awka should be decongested by relocating the eke market, prisons, governors Lodge elsewhere. In Onitsha, Ochanja should be relocated.

One good thing about Eat n Go is that it is the western QSR that has stepped outside of the mall format to build standalone fast food restaurants in local communities. I first ate at a Domino's pizza at Osolo Way, Lagos and was impressed. I hope that it teaches Nigerian businesses how to architect a fast food restaurant from branding to interior design to functionality. Most Nigerian fast food restaurants are what Americans will call "Diners" where you have a plethora of menu items and you sit down and eat. The only thing is that you go and get your food from the counter. Fast Food is supposed to be fast and well packaged. I expect Burger King or a local burger chain to copy Eat n Go in its Nigerian expansion.

Recent interview with Prof Soludo. He lays out some of the plans he has for the state after being sworn in to office next year. I like his meticulous approach and planning for the job at hand, and you can just tell that he's raring to spring out of the starting blocks as soon as the starting gun is fired! I don't envy him though as he's really got his work cut out for him.....just reading of the demands and requests Anambrans are making of him shows you the heavy weight of expectation on his shoulders. But i have a feeling he's up to the task and would leave the state a much better place than he met it. My only hope is that the Nigerian factor....its political-economy and Abuja don't frustrate his efforts and act as a stumbling block. We all know the way things can be in this country, let's be honest.

From 35.30 to 45.00 he gives some idea of how he plans to fund infrastructural development and talks of accountability in his gov't.

Clip courtesy BBC Igbo and Njenje Media TV.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tJaFmqVBZls
Soludo knows that the way you do infrastructure is with structured finance not the standard way states do it by using federal allocation from oil revenue. It handicaps them in terms of project time frame and delivery because it means that if your allocation is 4 billion a month then you pay contractors every month and projects take long to execute and are expensive.

Obi tried to get out of that straitjacket by saving money for most of his first term and then building in the second term.

Soludo solution is going to be raising cheap funds for larger projects like roads and the industrial layouts, partnering with development agencies for education, health, etcs and getting Anambrarians to co invest on community projects like security, water, schools, clinics and local roads.

The diaspora already remit over 1 billion dollars to Anambra so its a matter of trust. This is why he wants government to be transparent with every expenditure, detailed, documented and open. Give people honesty they will be confident to give.

Soludo: Industrialist wants revenue touts off Anambra roads
By Chinonso Ihekire
20 November 2021 | 3:04 am

[FILES] Soludo

As the good people of Anambra State continue to bask in the euphoria of the just concluded governorship election won by former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, the Chairman/CEO of MACDON Group of Companies, Chief Mike Emerah, has called on the governor-elect to get ready to bring his expertise to bear on revenue services in the state and by so doing flush out touts and those milking the treasury.

Speaking on his expectations from the governor-elect, Emerah decried the method of revenue collection in the state, observing that the way touts parade tickets and demand for payments from motorists, traders and wheelbarrow pushers at the markets, motor parks and bus stops was very crude and unacceptable.

He wondered why the job of revenue collection should be left in the hands of touts, noting that the involvement of touts in revenue services amounts to corruption and economic sabotage.

He blamed the menace of touting on the agents contracted by the state Ministries of Transport and Trade and Commerce, noting that the Commissioners for the two ministries shouldn’t allow agents to engage touts as revenue collectors.

“Soludo has to stop the crude way of revenue collection in Anambra State and ensure adequate supervision of the activities of Ministries of Transport and Trade and Commerce to prevent corruption and economic sabotage. He has to ensure that the revenue of the state is safe, secure and used for the purpose of executing development projects on education, health care services and roads, among others,” he said.

He stressed that touting was not supposed to be seen in Anambra State, which prides itself as the Light of the Nation, in this digital age.

Emerah also drew the attention of the governor-elect to the plight of investors and industrialists in the state, noting that he has to create a conducive environment for them to enable them to sustain, expand and create more jobs for residents.

“The clamour to attract investors into the state is a welcome development, but attention has to be given to us that is existing so that we can expand and churn out more jobs. We need government’s support for sustenance and expansion,” he added.
