naptu2: 1) This is why I appreciate what the Lagos State Government has done i.e the coroner's inquest. It will ensure that the murder is scientifically investigated. It was the evidence at the coroner's inquest that made the police admit that it was one of its officers that killed Modebayo Awosika.

2) We should be very careful about the kind of speculation we make. Statements like - he was probably involved in cult activities, it was the friend that planned a hit, etc could be very hurtful to people that knew the deceased, especially as we have no evidence to back up these speculation.
Thumbs up for your analysis! I still maintain that most Nigerians are hypocrites. The investigation must start with the police. There is no smoke without fire. It's not a coincidence that his friends pointed an accusing finger at the police. We can't sweep the account of the deceased friends under the rug just because of some little inconsistencies in the story. We must first ask ourselves, "based on the historical antecedents of the Nigerian police, have we recorded similar incident(s)?" The answer to this question will help to establish the primary focus of investigation.
CrimeRe: Friends Of Ugo Ozuah Who Was Killed By The Police by ACM10:
stormm: I think folks here should be careful in their contributions. Ugo is a personal friend of about a year and people should be cautious before spewing their gibberish on people or events they know nothing about. Ugo is a young man that recently finished his Msc in Unilag. He got a job for which he should resume in October 2012 after several months of being without a job

A thoroughly detribalised young Nigerian, he moved into the house around UPS area, Gbagada after he got back from his 3-day honeymoon on Wednesday. Only for the police to kill on on Thursday.

Please, lets be mindful of other people's sensibilities and not doubt the veracity of this particular story. I am personally touched because, I saw him that day around 4pm. He was in the company of the same friend mentioned in the story. The friend came in from the UK to attend Ugo's wedding. And they met again when he came back from his honeymoon.

To those who think the story sounds somehow, may they be killed 5 days after their wedding angry angry angry
Leave them! Our people says that if another man's corpse is carried in procession, it feels like a log of wood, but if it is yours, you'll feel it's human.
Everyone is jumping in defense of the police. They expect Ugo's friend to narrate their story as if there are in a law court. No one wants to dig into the archive to unearth similar events in the past.

Police murdered Apo six,

Police murdered demonstrators during subsidy riot and took away their corpse. This was captured on camera.

Police murdered Boko haram leaders and suspected Boko haram members. This was on Youtube.

Everybody is acting as if we have a decent police force which upholds the highest level of moral standard in their line of duty.

SMH, Nigerians are hypocrites.
CrimeRe: Friends Of Ugo Ozuah Who Was Killed By The Police by ACM10:
I wonder why some people are trying to absolve the police of any blame in this case. As if Nigerian police had became disciplined overnight.
My close friend had similar experience in the hand of a drunken policeman in 2003. As he drove his 504 salon car along Park Avenue in Enugu in the night, he saw a policeman lying on the road. There is no way that he could have passed without running over him. So he stopped to help the policeman out of the road. He tapped him gently by his shoulder when he approached him. Only for the man to woke up suddenly like a scene from a horror movie and pulled his pistol, aimed his fire at my friend's chest. My friend acted fast and engaged him in a scuffle. He pulled the trigger in the midst of the scuffle but misfired. He couldn't dispossess him of his pistol. Besides, it was safely locked on to a chain that was fastened to his belt. He ran for cover when he sighted an opportunity. He fired on him again, but thankfully, he missed.
The policeman later entered my friend's abandoned car. Drove away with it and crashed it onto a fence at Abakaliki road. The culprit was later identified. Nothing came out of the case. He wasn't even punished. The case dragged on to the extent that my friend had to abandon it. Such cases abound.
FashionRe: Pant Or Boxers Which Is More Ideal For Guys? by ACM10: 11:02am On Sep 23, 2012
Boxers is more ideal for men. Pant straps the sc.rotum to the body. The temperature of the scrotum is five degree below the body temperature. This is ideal for sp.erm production. When the sc.rotal temperature is in sync with the body temperature, it retards sperm.atogenesis.
Learn to control your urge. Learn to play with women without having an ere.ction. This is part of the art of body and self control. It shows discipline and maturity. It's mostly people that can't control their urge that ra.pes women. In essence, achieve control over your ere.ction.

Two shots of AK-47 bullets on the chest that probably passed through the heart or major vessels or both! I'm sorry, the doctor cannot do anything to keep this folk alive. He probably died on the spot.

Naijastomosis: Congrats on your upcoming wedding. I have helped plan a wedding and I have had mine, too.
I will advise you as follows:

* There is no "small" or "big" wedding, so do not try to impress anybody.

* I advise that you rent your wedding gown. The clitch "you do it once in a lifetime" is not realistic.
I know many ladies who regreted spending hugely on gowns that are boxed up in the house.

* Weddings are all about food and drinks; serve just enough to provide the energy for the trip back home.
Jollof rice with or without moi-moi and a sprinkling of a few traditional delicacies is accceptable. People grumble when they are hungry yet can't something to eat and drink. At a wedding?

* Cakes are only symbolic; nobody feeds full on them, so go for the most basic cake.

* Keep the bridal train to a few friends and relations, unless they will foot the cost of their dress.

* Rent just enough space for the reception; you may not need a live band.

* If the distance is not far, you can have the wedding in Delta and round off in PH. Some people may not be able to attend because of the setup, but the occasion holds.

* Some disagreements between the man and woman are expected, but they always get resolved.

As I do not know the weight of your pocket, I have provided advise on areas I feel people mistakes.

Hope this helps.
The most sensible and practicable advice on this thread!
I'm saving it for future reference. Since my wedding will be coming up soon. cool

NRI PRIEST: Wow; my mother used this term a lot. Nnu ego ili n'ego nabo=four hundred, two naira. Nnu ego ise= two hundred. I have never heard my mother use "puku","nari" nor "nde". Those are more like the modern invention.
You are right! Sort of mixed up in my head. My granny used the term "nnu" a lot. But I can't actually translate it to real figure. I'm so sure that N200 is "ofu akpa ego"
CultureRe: What Is Million In, Hausa, Yoruba, Igbo Etc Etc?. by ACM10: 6:38am On Sep 22, 2012
200 = otu akpa ego(very old Igbo)

1000 = akpa ego ise

10,000 = akpa ego iri ise

100,000 = akpa ego nari ise

1,000,000 = akpa ego puku ise

asha 80: owerri is actually planned.it is just that it is getting over populated.you probably would not have said the same thing if you lived there in the eighties and ninties when go slow was rare in the town.
Government should hasten the development of Owerri capital development area. The current arrangement cannot be sustained on the long run. This will encourage Owerri inhabitants to relocate to the new areas, thereby decongest the city.
PoliticsRe: Few Pics From Imo State by ACM10: 9:44pm On Sep 21, 2012
Ejiné: I know right? The original masterplan was designed as a low-density city, similar to Atlanta. And just like Atlanta, this has led to an unbelievably large sprawl... But unlike Atlanta, the roads are taking more traffic than they should.
I think a railway system should be 'explored' for a place like Owerri.
I chose to use the word "explored" because I sabi say railway costs no be beans. wink
Owerri is one of the fast-growing cities in Nigeria. Its inhabitant might double in the next decade. This will be a disaster! The governor needs to concentrate more effort on opening new link roads to decongest traffic in the city. The new Owerri should be developed fast. I doubt if their government can undertake massive project such as city rail system without outside help.
PoliticsRe: Few Pics From Imo State by ACM10: 9:25pm On Sep 21, 2012
centje: thats old owerri. The new owerri is well planned. The traffic can be managed with fly overs, effective bus service, tram, mono rail, expansion of roads and traffic control.
Majority of Owerri residents lives in old Owerri. It seems unplanned. I think they can do better. The traffic is something else. Moreover, tram and mono rail are too expensive for a government that is struggling to pay its workers. The options left are flyovers and expansion of roads. But, where are the spaces to accomodate these projects in old Owerri? Houses may have to be demolished to inorder to embark on such projects. And Rochas is well aware of its political consequence(s).
PoliticsRe: Few Pics From Imo State by ACM10: 8:58pm On Sep 21, 2012
centje: This is beautiful. Owerri has alot of potential. Its a city that will be both industrialised and beautiful.
Yes, Owerri is beautiful. But lacks link roads. Passengers are bogged down with stubborn traffic everyday on a single road. The city is not planned. I love its green scenary by the way.
