Politics / Re: Man Climbs Telecom Mast To Protest ‘land Encroachment’ By Atiku’s AUN by adambest(m): 4:38pm On Nov 12, 2018
abc115:
One Musa Inuwa Wakatu on Monday climbed a telecommunications mast in Abuja to protest alleged land encroachment by the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, six years after he embarked on the same mission.

He climbed the mast at 9:40am at Nicon Junction in Maitama, causing an unusual scene that attracted a large crowd who thronged the area to catch a glimpse of the man.

A commercial driver, Yakubu Idris, said he saw the man while ascending the mast but thought that he was a site engineer who had come to do some maintenance work.

Musa, who climbed the mast halfway, distributed leaflets from the height, alleging that the former Vice President, through his American University of Nigeria (AUN), encroached and fenced his landed property of (300 feet by 100 feet) with structures inside at Bajabure in Girei Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

He said he had protested on the same matter when he climbed a mast at Federal High Court in Abuja on 14th March 2012.

In the leaflet, he said: "I wrote a complaint letter to the former I.G. Mr.Hafiz Ringim and delivered to force headquarters on 5th December 2011, with visitor tag No.054 without any positive result.”

He explained that he was lured to collect money as compensation from AUN, which he rejected, but was later locked up in the cell by one Mr. Ibrahim Iro AC CID of Nigeria Police Yola Command.

He stressed that he had sold his inherited house to prosecute the case in the court of law without any result. He added that he was ready to pursue the case to the world court in order to get justice.

"Yesterday, someone's right was illegally taken, today mine is about to be taken. The next person right to be taken illegally tomorrow might be yours," Wakaltu stated.

The leaflet also contained his bank account name and number seeking financial assistance from Nigerians to enable him get lawyer for the case.

Wakatu therefore appealed to well-meaning Nigerians, civil society organisations and International communities to come to his rescue.

A detachment of armed policemen has arrived the area talking to him via his mobile phone but he has insisted that he won’t descend from the mast.

Travel / Re: Pedestrian Bridge At UNIBEN In Edo Under Construction (PHOTOS) by adambest(m): 9:51pm On Nov 05, 2018
autojosh:
The only Pedestrian Bridge in Edo state is currently under construction.

The Pedestrian Bridge is being constructed across a federal highway - the Benin-Lagos expressway. It is situated in front of the main gate of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), Ugbowo campus, Benin city.

The project is being funded by the Godwin Obaseki-led Edo state government.

Currently, no pedestrian bridge exists in Edo state. However, this pedestrian bridge is not going to be the first to be constructed in the state.

The first Pedestrian Bridge was constructed in the early ‘90s.  It was constructed about 500 meters away from where one is being built now. It was built in front of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH).

That UBTH Pedestrian bridge - the first to be built in Edo state -  suffered severe lack of usage. Ostensibly, this led to its eventual dismantling and disappearance from that location. That Pedestrian Bridge was constructed by Lucky Igbinedion, during his stint as the Chairman of Oredo Local Government council.

It could be recalled that several students of the University  of Benin (UNIBEN) have lost their lives while attempting to cross the ever-busy Benin-Lagos expressway to the institution’s campus. The most recent being the one involving a certain Late Rita Awele.

All these informed the decision by the Edo state government to construct a pedestrian bridge in front of the UNIBEN main gate.

The Pedestrian Bridge, which has reached an advance stage of construction, is being built by Hartland Construction Company.

Politics / Re: "Jega Will Go, Heavens Won't Fall" - Ayo Fayose by adambest(m): 7:15am On Mar 05, 2015
holucunleh:
Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose has described outbursts of the All Progressives Congress (APC) over the possible removal of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Chairman, Prof Attahiru Jega as “mere comedy,” saying; “President Goodluck Jonathan can sack Jega if he wishes and if he does, heavens will not fall.”

The governor, who said the APC should stop acting as if Nigeria belongs to the party, added that; “by turning themselves to advocates and defenders of the INEC chairman, the APC and its agents have shown that they have a deal with Jega to manipulate the elections and that the deal will be frustrated if he is asked to leave office.”

Governor Fayose said in a release issued on Wednesday, and signed by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, that “removal of Jega and any other appointees of the

Federal Government is a prerogative of the president, which no one can question, provided laid down rules are followed.”

He said the position expressed by the House of Representatives was that of the APC members in the House, urging that “the APC lawmakers should rather pay attention to the ill-health of their party’s presidential candidate, Major General Mohammadu Buhari (rtd), whose whereabouts is now a mystery.”

The governor described Jega as partisan, saying; “By his actions and utterances, Jega had already demonstrated his bias in support of the APC. For instance, how can Jega explain the 80 percent distribution of

Permanent Voters Card (PVC) in Boko Haram ravaged Borno and Yobe States while less than 40 percent distributed in Lagos as at February 7 that the election was postponed?”

He said; “It is on record that Prof Maurice Iwu was asked to proceed on terminal leave two months to the end of his tenure? Is Jega not a beneficiary of Iwu’s removal? So if Iwu was asked to go on terminal leave before the expiration of his tenure for Jega to assume office, what difference does it make if Jega too is asked to proceed on terminal leave before the expiration of his tenure?”

Speaking further, Governor Fayose said; “it is the president that can determine whether or not Jega will go on the mandatory three months terminal leave which should commence on March 8, and if the president decides that the INEC chairman should go on terminal leave, what can the APC loudmouths do?

They boasted before the postponement of the elections that they would go on street protests, but did they do anything? They made noise when Justice Isa Ayo Salami was removed from office as president of the Court of Appeal, what did their noise amount to? “Therefore, let me say it categorically that the noise being made by the APC and their agents will amount to nothing because if thepresident removes Jega today, heavens will not fall.”

Family / Re: Higher Education And The Female Child by adambest(m): 1:25pm On Mar 02, 2015
safarigirl:
I'm writing this article strictly out of necessity. Not only is this based on the experiences of others, but also on personal experience

I want to start by posting a known fact. It's not by force to have a child, neither is it necessary to send your child to a higher institution, ESPECIALLY a girl child

See ehn, make una forget anything, the truth and the koko of the matter, forgetting all these yeye posts on NL is that most girls go into the University WITH ONLY their PARENTS as their source of finances. There is no money bag somewhere that provides money for us. Na only us waka come

There is a popular saying that when you're in 100 level, money comes in steady, as you progress it becomes less frequent and reduces in amount, by the time you're in your final year, if you even see 1k alert from your family, na to shoki reach ATM.

Many students especially those in government institutions can testify to this fact.....but I digress. It has come to my knowledge that most parents do not pay as much attention to their daughters in higher institution as they do their sons, because the female child is perceived as the 'understanding' one, who is supposed to 'persevere' because she's a 'nurturer'....that is by far the biggest load of BS ever peddled by the male folk (yes, na boys cause am angry)

All those bad belle brothers wey dey like shorten their sisters' monthly allowance on top tales of one (imaginary) boyfriend that is sending her regular money, just know that your village people have already pounded the yam that they'll use and lick soup ontop your head angry.

If not for the fear of God that some girls have, obatala knows that the amount of runs girls that would've been in this country for don reach to rival the entire Cape Verde's population. Not every girl has a business she's doing in school and we all can't combine business with schooling. Why then should parents transfer their burden to one small boy that made the error of toasting their daughter? Boy wey still dey collect money from house go come dey feed your daughter for school on your behalf, unto wetin?

Even if there is a boyfriend, is it his job to provide food, clothes and hair product from your daughter? If he provides all of that, what is her consideration in such a contract? And by consideration, I mean, her sacrifice. You want your daughter to leave school and immediately marry, but you allow her look unkempt while in school and starve thinking she has a guy that does it all, like say the guy follow una conceive.

Please, if you have a daughter in school, do well as a parent to see to her needs, even the petty ones, don't wait for memos from your child before you know your job. The tertiary instituion is hard enough, but peer pressure is a b*tch and not every child is understanding and persevering. Shame on a child is shame on his/her parents too, so nothing like 'shebi na she get herself?'...na una get her

I'm sorry I wasn't able to pass across my message in what some may term a 'civil' manner, but some things gats come in pidgin for the message to make sense smiley.

I'm not hitting at parents who try their best, I'm hitting at those who don't try at all and expect 'understanding'. Thanks for reading

maybe i'm just alone when she woke me up from my dream...

Politics / Re: Ekiti Rigging Scandal; Fayose, Obanikoro, Omisore Others On Their Own -PDP by adambest(m): 8:46pm On Mar 01, 2015
koboko69:
The leadership of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party has distanced itself from the ongoing controversy over the Ekiti rigging tape in which some senior members of the party were heard planning how to rig the governorship election held in the state on June 16 last year.

In the recording, Ekiti state Governor, Ayodele Fayose; a former Minister of State for Defence, Musiliu Obanikore Obanikoro, former Senator Iyiola Omisore and other individuals were heard discussing with a serving Brigadier General of the Nigerian Army, Aliyu Momoh, on how to use the military to rig the election in the state.

Most of the actors involved in the saga admitted there was a meeting, but they all denied that rigging was discussed.

In an exclusive interview with PREMIUM TIMES, the spokesperson of the PDP, Olisa Metuh, said those mentioned in the scandal did not carry out the alleged rigging scheme on behalf of the party.

He said the party does not want to get involved in the controversy triggered by the leaked recording and would  rather prefer that those mentioned in connection with the matter respond individually.

He said the PDP as a party has never requested anyone to rig on its behalf and  will never be engaged in electoral malpractices.

“Any tape whether real or imaginary can be concocted in this digital world; we don’t know what is real and what is not,” Mr Metuh said. “I also believe that the actors in their personal capacity will be able to talk about what really happened.

“As a political party, we have never engaged in planning or getting involved in any conspiracy to rig elections or alter the will of the people,” Mr. Metuh said.

He also said the party  has so far demonstrated maturity in elections held in the last two years.

Mr. Metuh admitted that he had not listened to the recording but wondered whether the tape was even authentic at all.

“We had elections in five states in the last two years, PDP won in only one state; how comes its just that one that we won, that a tape is suddenly surfacing to say we planned rigging.

“Why did we not plan rigging in Edo, Ondo, Anambra and Osun? How comes the only one that we won is the one they want to tarnish? It is a calculated attempt to sway the minds of Nigerians that the PDP is not capable of winning in a free and fair election.

“Our people are even raising the fact that we were rigged out in Osun; but we are not engaged in propaganda, we are not engaged in manufacturing tapes, We won election in Ekiti state because of the love of our party, and the massive support that our gubernatorial candidate, Ayo Fayose, enjoys in the entire state.

The PDP spokesperson said the Ekiti tape saga is just another propaganda by the APC, saying if the APC is sure of the authenticity of the tape, it should approach the law courts to seek redress.

”In this era of campaign, where you have a lot of propaganda, anybody with any concrete evidence can go to either the law enforcement agencies or the law courts to seek redress.

“For us, we are more involved in the campaign than propaganda; our first thought actually is that it is simply just propaganda, it is only the court that can decide if on the matter of Ekiti election, just like the tribunal and court of appeal have decided. If they think there is fresh evidence, they can go to court,” he said.
