Naija work ethics are bad. Most times, kids who are apparent heir to their parents' bussinesses don't put in the amount of work required to sustain the business like their parents did. They just want to do the barest minimum. Minimum input equals minimum/negative output!

ballabriggs: Will you close your mouth, you think this is your village meeting. What was the aim of that programme?

That Uba should come and tell us about his contract with Maduka which can only be enforced by a court of law if breached?

You call gutter journalism investigative journalism. You sure don't know what you are talking about.

A case already in court and then you bring parties to your TV station to come and talk about fraud? You also allow your platform as a place for defaming others. Such rubbish will only impress dolts like you.

Channels needs to sort it out. I don't deal with mediocrity or sentiments, I deal with issues as they arise. It is absolutely disgraceful that Channels will allow their platform to be used for such rubbish. I do not think you are exposed enough to understand this.
So long as there is no gag order from the courts, all the parties involved are free to air their dirty laundry..

What has Obama's re-election got to do with this? Would Rommney's policies have been anything different? The way folks talk on NL is nauseating. You should be mad at our leaders because few years from now, our biggest buyer-US might stop buying, which would crash oil prices and Naija would be broke. A big warning to Naija thieving POLITRICKIANS!

PoliticsRe: Oshiomhole Cant Ban Okada For He Belongs To The Working-Class, by adconline(m): 7:02pm On Nov 11, 2012
nas 00: From the outset, it had been one of the targets of LASG to transform Lagos into a mega city and there's a time frame to it. In an ideal mega city, motor bike is not an option as a means of public transport. Compare Tokyo, Sidney, New York, Paris, Berlin etc.. Banning okada in some parts of Lag is understandably in line with achieving the laid out goal. Bear in mind the attendant merits of phasing out okada as a means of public transport.

Edo on the other hand must have her own targets too, which I am not really familiar with.

In view of this, I believe each governor is doing what is in their state's best interest, hopefully as a means to a better end. There is always to sides to a story.

We all must remember that for meaningful and lasting change, there must be:
1. An action plan/ blueprint for development
2. Leadership committed to the cause
3. Sacrifice, which in truth is mostly borne by the citizenry (okada riders in this case)
In the near future, Lagos is likely achieve her aims if LASG maintains commitment..
I don't stay in Lagos but I have witnessed, during my visits, the commendable positive changes in traffic law enforcement, environmet and aesthetics. I know there are yet lots of terrible roads needing rehab in lagos. Also, other problems such as power supply still need to be tackled. However, I think Fashola has taken one step in the right direction.

The onus is however on him to employ as much of the okada riders that are employable.

That said, I live in Edo State and the state of roads here is far worse than in Lagos (to say the least). Terrible roads persist even in Benin City.
I realise that a few roads here and there are being rehabilitated though, and maybe because Edo is a larger state, it is more difficult to appreciate work being done when considered as a whole entity.

Most parts of the state do not even have a functional intra-city taxi cab system E.g. Auchi, Igarra, Ibillo, Ekpoma, Sabongida-Ora etc
Only Benin has an intra-city system that conveys passengers from one place to another within it.

So, it is no surprise that Oshiomhole CANNOT ban okada for noow (except maybe on major roads in Benin-City). He was right in that regard.
But for the 'working class' reason he gave, I'd say he was just trying to score cheap political points. Oshiomhole get sweet mouth.
A state that can't deal with waste management and pot holes now wants to be like NYC, Tokyo and Sydney? Come on let's start with little things like cleaning gutters, creating flood and waste channels, fixing roads and pot holes. A state that gets flooded every time 1inch rain drops should not be comparing itself with NYC and co. Anyway in Naija, dreams and fantasies trump realities and hard work

Fortunately, people in villages are better behaved than folks I see in Lagos. Lagosians are the first to shout on top of their lungs because noise pollution has affected their hearing..first to fight for anything.. Molue, keke, BRT, taxis, Okada.. First to insult and assault.. First to get angry because of stressful environment.

Our perverted sense of values manifests in many other ways.
On a typical day, just look at the number of supposedly sane people, sweating profusely and suffocating themselves on dark 3-piece suites in the scorching heat of a tropical climate. Somehow, it still has not registered in our colonially fogged minds, that we live in a tropical climate and that we should be dressing for comfort rather than for class and style and effect.

Everyone pretends to be and wants to be seen as white collar

PoliticsRe: Firm Seeks Approval To Import And Sell Fuel At N75/ Litre by adconline(m): 4:01pm On Oct 23, 2012
NLers are mathematically and intellectually challenged to read and understand your great post. How can an unknown company raise $30bn to build a refinery. Saudi Aramco and Venezuela's PDVSA cannot invest such huge amount on refining in their respective countries, let alone an unknown mushroom company in Naija. Dangote group has a market capitalization of about $14bn and unknown company is telling us that it wants to invest $30bn. Untalkable and unimaginable.. Only in Naija where Journalists and educated believe a simple phone call to a certain number can actually kill someone.

Wallie: I hate to break it to you guys, but if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is! This is the type of awoof people fall for that makes them become victims of 419.

1. Even if the fuel was refined in Nigeria and gotten for free, the cost of refining will almost be NGN 75 per litre.

2. Where is the guy going to get the fuel? In what country? And what's the cost of shipping from that country to Nigeria?

3. Is the guy going to buy barrels of crude oil in the international market?

4. Who is going to refine the crude oil? At what cost per barrel?

5. I didn’t even bother adding the guy’s profit! Or do you think that he’s in business not to make a profit? Have you EVER seen a Nigerian that generous especially someone that is unknown?

The only way the claim can be true is if he's trying to sell crude oil from illegal bunkering! I would love someone to prove me wrong with simple arithmetic because the price of a barrel of crude oil in the international market is known, the number of liters of fuel you can get from a barrel of crude oil is known, the average cost to refine a barrel of oil is known, and the shipping cost to Nigeria can be easily estimated.

Today, crude oil is $108 per barrel. A barrel of oil has 42 gallons (159 litres) and when refined, you will get about 47% gasoline, 23% diesel, 18% petrochemical, 10% jet fuel, 4% propane, 3% asphalt.

This means that in 1 barrel of oil you will get about 74.73 litres of gasoline, 36.57 liters of diesel, 28.62 litres of petrochemicals, 15.9 litres of jet fuel, 6.36 litres of propane, and 4.77 litres (or whatever the unit is) of asphalt.

Time for simple arithmetic:
$108 = NGN 16,849 which is how much he has to make to pay for a barrel of oil without including the cost of refining, shipping, storage when it gets to Nigeria, and profit.

74.73 litres of gasoline @ NGN 75 = NGN 5604.75
36.57 litres of diesel @ ?? = (somebody with actual selling price should fill in the numbers...)

Nigeria and Junk Journalism.. I wonder if these journalists graduated from any secondary school? How is possible for an unknown company to spend $30bn on building of a refinery? $30bn is more than our national budget... Does refinery cost of up to this amount? How much is Orient Petroleum spending on building of its refinery? Refineries can be built with $200 million, so why spend $30bn?
Dangote Group cannot even claim that they can build a refinery for $3bn..

Another public stunt!
