I was looking to see some hard facts/statistics of Naija jailed in India for drug related offences and number of "Igbos" involved, but nothing is available. Another blatant generalisation!

Caracta: I don't understand. Is it that they cannot read or they just can't understand simple words. It wasn't stated that she date the guy or that the deceased was the same girl the suspect's brother was referring to.

Abeg help me out, where did Nairalanders get their own version of story? Share the link pls. Majority can't be dumb all at once.
because Naija loves conspiracy theories. From us blaming devil when caught in our well thought out and executed silly actions. From Zik and Awo being wiser and stronger than " mermaids"; from India beating Naija 100 -0 in a football match that never occurred; from a pastor driving on empty fuel tank from Onitsha to Lagos; from killer GSM numbers; from a pastor curing someone of HIV-AIDS without a prior medical record. Truth be told: Naija is allergic to facts and its application in solving common problems

kingoflag: Point to a lie I told, and tell me how it's different from Mr.Mbeki's assertion and observation that when a corrupt person is discovered his kin rise to his defense.

Like I said: it's an indisputable fact that Igbos support this govt in their majority. It is also an indisputable fact that this govt is totally corrupt. It might be the turn of the Northerners or Westerners to carry this inglorious torch tomorrow...that's not the crux of the matter at hand right now. Lets deal with RIGHT NOW.

Now show me where I was wrong, emotional man.
Quit tribalising this issue. Naija as a country is a cesspool of decay and corruption irrespective of tribe, state of origin, and region.

kingoflag: Just like I never fail to mention the North or the Yorubas...but u don't see them crying at my statements.
It's a Fxucking Naija problem! Keep living in ur small mind of denial. Thabo Mbeki was referring to all Nigerians. He has dealt with Nigerians from all tribal and regional affiliations

Naija is irredeemable! Collective apathy and laziness to stand up for what is right. I was at Shoprite and the checkout line was long, joined the queue and was the next to be attended to, a stranger, jumped the line and said he was right behind me and had stepped out a foot to get some candy bars. I insisted that the man was not in line and folks behind me knew it, but none of them challenged him. As a matter of fact, 2 guys rose in his defense and started saying that I was being hard and petty like a " woman". Folks I was looking out for, threw me under the bus

Nigerian passport or International passport? What makes it international if the holder, is Nigerian and has never used it to travel? I hear of UK passport, RSA passport, US passport but in Naija it's international passport
PoliticsRe: Rivers Govt Replies Okonji-iweala On Missing $5B From Excess Crude Account by adconline(m): 6:15pm On Nov 23, 2013
take dat: Is Amaechi a member of the Jang led NGF? Is Jang elected to govern Nigeria. Each State is a stake holder, Plateau cannot decide for Lagos or Rivers likewise Rivers cannot decide for Plateau. The ECA is not a FG account, it is a Federation Account. The President cannot unilaterally make decisions to deduct from the ECA to augment the shortfall in revenue simply because he is incapable of curbing crude oil theft. The problem is that there is no synergy, and you can't lay the blame solely at the feet of Amaechi, the President himself is guilty.

If you guys want to attack Amaechi, I am less concerned but he raised genuine questions!
Let him sue the FG. Tinubu did it against OBJ: governors sued FG and ND during onshore and offshore dichotomy.

Symphony007: if you were more attentive you would have heard of the wide ranging interview that he conducted on rythm: 93.7 where he accounted for every penny.
An hour interview to account for over $20bn? This is what Amaechi has amassed as a governor of Rivers!
CareerRe: Nigeria’s Highest Paid CEOs by adconline(m): 5:34pm On Nov 23, 2013
Dis Guy: doesn't work like that in naija unfortunately, thats why most argument/debate end up looking like beer parlour discussions

That's why the list itself is a bit skewed, most info are from 'insiders', think about it even job adverts dont come with salary scales except perhaps for civil servants

Mobil is 11m starting according to 'insiders'
"Insider" Naija way of giving too much power to rumour millers and incompetent folks. An insider to fix a failed JAMB score, an inside to help u talk to JEG, but u have to pay N100milion. A recent incident where an "insider"offered to "help" my friend check 3 of his bags as two without paying for one, but the same "insider" didn't know that my friend as a frequent flyer can check in 3 bags without any charges.

Sorry to disgrace, why is Naija argument always " that's not true or I don't believe it" without providing another data/proof? I'd like to read another published ariticle on CEO wages in Naija. In 2013, we should strive to counter facts with facts not I don't believe it or it's a lie argument. I'm dying to read a well published article with different figures covering IOCs and telecoms. Since these are public companies, shouldn't there compensation packages be on public domain?
PoliticsRe: Okonjo-iweala Slams Punch Newspaper Over ‘malicious, Defamatory’ Editorial! by adconline(m): 8:17am On Nov 23, 2013
take dat: and you expect me to take you seriously above the editorial team of Punch when I know your duty is always to defend all that is good and bad in Government? Isn't this how you folks always try to demonize anyone who critic the Government of GEJ? I am sure you do not have basic comprehension problems, go back to re-read the said editorial. Punch editorial is about dubious waivers and the amount Nigeria is losing to that. Are you telling me that the scheme is 100% corruption-proof? The questions NOI should answer instead of this manufactured hogwash are;

Did Nigeria lose N264billion to waivers on petroleum product imports or not?

Did Nigeria lose N603billion to import duty waivers, concessions and import substitution schemes?

Are you telling us that most of the waivers granted were not patronage driven? Are these allegations not of fiscal profligacy? Nigeria is losing money to some economic terrorists in and outside of government, and she is here picking up a fight with Punch without tackling the main issue. Economic Terrorism!
Notice how NOI and her attack dogs "tactfully" ignored all the figures published by Punch. Instead, she resorted to the same long term gains that were sold to us in 2012 during fuel strike. Why is it that NOI and her team are always asking the poor to make sacrifices while politicians and their cronies are allowed to plunder and live in stupendous opulence? Any reaon why capital expenditure is at 28%; recurrent expenditure is at 72%; service vote for presidency is at 90%?

Here is a very interesting piece abt banana island (Yuzedo can confirm this i hope) grin
Culled from forbes.com

If you never heard about the Island, now you
know. Banana Island is Nigeria’s most extravagant
and expensive neighborhood – on par with the
Seventh Arrondissement in Paris, La Jolla in San
Diego, California and Tokyo’s Shibuya or Roppongi
neighborhoods.
The exclusive playground of Nigeria’s obscenely
wealthy, Banana Island is an artificial island built
on reclaimed land in Ikoyi-Lagos. From an aerial
view, the island is actually shaped like a banana,
hence its name. Sitting on 1.6 million square
meters, the sumptuous island is divided into about
535 plots ranging in size from 1,000 square meters
and 3,000 square meters.
Banana Island is a place of unrivalled opulence
and grandeur. It’s an entirely different world from
other parts of the country. It’s a gated community,
and its inhabitants enjoy such luxuries as
underground electrical systems and water supply
networks, 24 hour-electricity supply (the only other
place such privileged is the Nigerian President’s
residence), extremely tight security, good road
layout, a central sewage system and treatment
plant and the well-cherished company of fellow
wealthy folks.
The island is the most expensive place in Nigeria
and one of the most expensive in Africa to own a
house. Property on Banana Island is dollar-
denominated. The average cost of buying a three
bedroom apartment is $2 million. However, if
you’re just looking to hang around the island for
some time, and not to buy property, you can rent
the same apartment for about $150,000 per
annum. But there’s a clause: you must pay for an
initial minimum term of 2 years – in advance. And
there are no refunds. Ever! Also, the tenant is also
mandated to pay a ‘service charge’ of $17,000 per
annum.
A typical plot of land on the island usually goes for
between $4 million and $6 million, and the
cheapest building on the island costs upward of $8
million. But because of the ridiculous prices of
property on the island, about 60% of the
completed buildings are currently unoccupied.
So, who are the people who occupy the land? The
list includes multinational corporations, well-paid
expatriate employees, corrupt government officials;
their concubines (or mistresses), and wealthy
businessmen such as Alhassan Dantata, Kola
Abiola and Nigeria’s newest billionaire, Mike
Adenuga.
The most expensive I'd say not that it's like Paris or San Diego.. It's delusion of grandeur to make this useless comparison

PoliticsRe: SSS Traces N3 Billion SURE-P Money To Lamido's Cronies by adconline(m): 2:14am On Nov 21, 2013
Mekusnwa: While not holding any defence for Oduah, you cant compare this level of corruption with that of Oduah. The two are worlds apart.
First, the amount involved in Oduah's case is pocket money compared with the one Lamido and his sons stole.
Secondly, Oduah did not buy the car for her personal use but as operational vehicles in the name of NCAA but Lamido converted 3 billion Naira meant for SURE P into his sons private accounts.
Thirdly, Oduah testified that she approved the purchase but asked them to do the needful, but in Lamido's case there's no pretence to adhere to any due process whatsoever. Simply direct stealing into his Son's accounts. Haba!
No need to explain to the intellectually and mathematically challenged.. It's congenitally built in their DNA not to get it. Good luck explaining to them.

E nice: yeah. One man in Abuja cannot just decide what to do with our money. At least we should have a say. The president can't just dip his hands in the ECA anytime he likes.
Amaechi should ask his attorney general to sue if Rivers is short-changed. Tinubu did it against OBJ. Govs sued FG against onshore offshore dichotomy

Take tribe out of this: most families, be it Ijaw, Ibibio, Yoruba, Igbo would not allow their son to marry a woman who is 6 years older. What's she bringing to the table? Is she a celebrity?
