Car Talk / Re: The Major cause Of The Incessant Tyre Burst Accidents On Nigerian Roads by Ade0001(m): 7:21am On May 05, 2016
Beyond the issue of tyre pressure, there are other key factors that we do overlook. Each tyre has a:

a. maximum recommended pressure (always indicated as max psi) on the tyre. The poster have done justice to this already.

b. temperature rating:

c. load rating:

d. speed rating:

e. traction rating:

It is important we familiarize ourselves with all these factors before buying a tyre. More details are available online.

Politics / Obama Appoints Nigerian As Deputy National Security Adviser by Ade0001(m): 12:57pm On Dec 17, 2015
http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/obama-appoints-nigerian-as-deputy-national-security-adviser/228222/

US President Barack Obama has appointed a Nigerian, Adewale ‘Wally’ Adeyemo who served in top roles at the Treasury Department, to succeed Caroline Atkinson as his deputy national security adviser for international economic affairs.

According to The Herald newspaper, Adeyemo, 34, has served in the Obama administration since 2009. He joined the White House’s National Economic Council as deputy director. He was the Treasury’s lead negotiator on the currency agreement that was part of the Pacific trade deal.

A statement by Obama read: “For the past four years, I have relied on Caroline Atkinson, most recently as my deputy national security advisor for international economics, as we’ve navigated pressing challenges to the global economy.

“As my representative at the G-7 and G-20, she played a key role in coordinating our response to international financial crises, worked with our allies to devise and implement targeted economic sanctions to advance our national security goals, played a vital role in our economic engagements with China, and helped to achieve breakthrough agreements on climate that will strengthen our economy and our security.

“I’ve relied on, and benefited from Caroline’s knowledge and judgment and, as she concludes her tenure on my national security team, I am deeply appreciative of her service.

“I am grateful that Caroline’s work will be carried on by Adewale ‘Wally’ Adeyemo, who has served in my administration since 2009. At the Treasury Department, he was part of the team that helped coordinate our response to the global recession, laying the foundation for renewed growth at home and abroad.

“He helped establish the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, and he’s been our point person on a range of international economic issues, including negotiations on strong currency agreements around the Trans Pacific Partnership. I will be calling on Wally’s intellect, judgment and dedication as we sustain America’s global economic leadership, which reinforces our national security, and as we work with allies and partners around the world to create jobs and opportunity for all our people.”

Adeyemo holds a B.A. from the University of California, Berkeley and another degree from Yale Law School.

UK Wants Alamieyeseigha Extradited

The case of former Bayelsa State Governor, Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, appeared concluded when former President Goodluck Jonathan granted him state pardon, but the British Government seems determined to resurrect the case.

Reports say they have requested for the extradition of the former governor to London.

For the British Government, the former governor has an outstanding case in the UK on money laundering which is there for him to answer.

The Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee on Corruption, Professor Itse Sagay, was quoted as saying that the President Buhari-led government is prepared to assent to the request of the British Government.

He said that the United Kingdom has every legal right to demand for the extradition of the former Bayelsa State Governor.

“The UK is in principle correct to be making such a request based on the fact that the crime was committed on the British soil. However, when there is delay in trial as a result of time, there may be consideration on legal grounds so that the trial is not seen as oppressive,” he said.

Former Governor Alamieyeseigha, who was facing money laundering charges, jumped bail and returned to Nigeria and has since then refused to answer summons for trial to continue.

Politics / Ewedu A Cure For Ebola – LUTH Consultant by Ade0001(m): 3:29pm On Sep 05, 2014
A professor of Ophthalmology at the Lagos State Teaching hospital, LUTH, Prof Adebukola Adefule Oshitelu, has laid claims that ‘Genus Corchorus’ popularly known as Ewedu in Nigeria is capable of curing the Ebola Virus Disease.

She said this at the 2014 African Traditional Medicine organised by NAFDAC yesterday at Ikeja, Lagos state. The programme which was arranged for Traditional Medicine Practitioners and Conventional Medicine Practitioners was in
response for an urgent need of cooperation between the two health bodies in order to enhance better and reliable healthcare delivery system.

According to Oshitelu, Ewedu cures Ebola by improving an infected person’s immune system, likewise providing prevention against the deadly virus for uninfected persons.

“The qualities inside Ewedu is so much that it will kill Ebola by preventing the virus from replicating and destroying more organs in the body. This would immediately stop the symptoms such as high fever, stooling and vomiting. Ultimately, leading to the cure,” Oshitelu said.

She further advised people to consume Ewedu on a regular basis but with strict adherence to its preparation and usage.

“The way it will be prepared will be different from the normal way they cook it. It should be washed and rinsed with liquid vinegar, afterwards blend and cook with drinkable water. No salt, potash or seasoning should be added, take 25cl of the concoction a week and it would boost a person’s immunity so that they become impregnable to the virus.” Oshitelu said.

However, In a statement made by the Director General of NAFDAC, Paul Orhii who was represented by the Director of Laboratory Service, Stella Denloye, NAFDAC said it has banned illegal advertisement of herbal products and bogus claims of cure for diseases.

“Unpatriotic Nigerians who continue to engage in illegal advert of their products and those making false claims not evaluated by NAFDAC should desist from acts misleading the unsuspecting public. I want to warn and inform them that NAFDAC would deal decisively with anyone found to contravene,” Orhii said.

He noted that there was the need to institutionalise traditional medicine in the health systems worldwide including Nigeria.

He said the stigmatising of the traditional health care by modern/conventional medicine needed to stop. So much that in some countries, it is even illegal to practice it.

“Regulation is the key to ensuring that only good quality, safe and effective traditional/herbal medicines are available to consumers especially if traditional medicine and complementary medicine is to be integrated into the nation’s healthcare system,” Orhii said.

Politics / Nigerian Jet For Malawian President by Ade0001(m): 7:46am On Jul 16, 2013
When Nigeria dispatched a jet from its Presidential Air Fleet late last month to fetch Malawi’s President, Joyce Banda, to Abuja, it unwittingly drew attention to our government’s fiscal recklessness. It was lost on President Goodluck Jonathan that while Banda had sold her cash-strapped country’s only presidential jet to save costs, he has, in three years in office, expanded Nigeria’s executive fleet to 10 aircraft.

Neither the reality of over 60 per cent of the population living in poverty, nor the recent alarming revelation by the Finance Minister, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, that government’s revenue inflow had dwindled to a dangerous level, has persuaded Jonathan to pare down the size of the Presidential Air Fleet. Instead, it is projected to rise as provision has reportedly been made to purchase two additional helicopters to ensure the President, Vice-President, their families, and other top functionaries travel in luxury at public expense.

Banda was in Nigeria to deliver the keynote address at the Global Power Women Network Africa summit in Abuja at the invitation of Nigeria’s First Lady. To ease her trip to Nigeria’s capital, our generous government dispatched a jet to pick her from Lilongwe, Malawi’s capital, and return her home after the event. That is to be expected since Malawi lacks a presidential aircraft.

Shortly after assuming the presidency in 2012, Banda had taken a critical look at her country’s economy. Almost 40 per cent of the national budget came from aid donors, while revenues from its major exports – tobacco, tea, coffee and sugar – were falling due to lower global demand and prices. Moreover, the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank had withdrawn most aid in response to the purchase in 2009 of a presidential jet by Banda’s predecessor, Bingu wa Mutharika, and his abandonment of an IMF-dictated adjustment programme. Other donors followed the World Bank/IMF lead.

Besides selling the presidential plane for $15 million, Banda also sold off a fleet of 35 Mercedes Benz limousines reserved for the president and the cabinet. She cut her own salary by 30 per cent, among other austerity measures. Her actions won praise around the world and convinced the IMF and other aid donors to return with credit and handouts to back the government’s ongoing painful structural adjustment programme.

But Nigerian leaders will not sacrifice their own comfort for anything. Even in a rich country like Britain, Prime Minister David Cameron and cabinet members took pay cuts in response to the global recession and the spending cuts that the government introduced. Here, our leaders are obsessed with living in luxury, regardless of the mass of people who are poor, the lack of infrastructure, mass unemployment and dwindling revenues. Okonjo-Iweala’s warning that the government may run out of money to pay salaries by October in the face of massive oil theft and vandalism of pipelines that have sharply reduced oil production and revenues has not jolted officials. Neither the wasteful Executive nor the overpaid legislators are ready to give up their luxurious lifestyles.

But British leaders often take commercial flights and, occasionally, trains when travelling for state functions. Japan, with its Gross Domestic Product of $4.52 trillion and per capita income of $36,200, (at Purchasing Power Parity), has only two aircraft – Boeing 747 – 400 – for use of the prime minister and the emperor; the Netherlands, with GDP of $770.2 billion and PCI of $42,300, has two; the British Queen, Elizabeth II, and Cameron travel on chartered British Airways flights, despite their country’s $2.32 trillion GDP and PCI of $38,700; South Africa has just one presidential aircraft with its GDP of $678.6 billion and PCI of $11,300, though it expects another soon, while Malaysia has one, but has also ordered a second; but with its GDP of $492 billion and PCI of $16,900, like others cited, Malaysia is ahead of Nigeria with a GDP of $450.5 billion and PCI of $2,700.

Given these scenarios, it is high time we ended this absurdity. Today, the aviation sector is in dire straits. How does one explain that only two domestic airlines – Arik, with 23 planes, and Aero Contractors with 14 – have larger fleets than this one kept for a few at public expense? Over N9 billion is believed to be spent on the maintenance of the presidential fleet each year, while the PAF required 47 Nigerian Air Force officers, 173 airmen/airwomen and 96 civilian employees on full time call in 2012.

Nigerians, however, desperately need a government that exists to serve the people, not a few. Successive governments have demonstrated incompetence and abused and misused public funds. There should be minimum ethical standards and decorum in public office. Other developing nations like Ghana where a former president, John Kufuor, once disposed of a spare presidential aircraft, retaining only one, should shame us into prudent conduct.

Jonathan has no excuse to continue keeping 10 aircraft and our under-performing legislators have no reason to keep approving new purchases or the billions of naira they appropriate for their maintenance each year. But, ultimately, it is only when the electorate shakes off its lethargy and demands accountability and responsibility from public officials that things will change for the better.

Crime / Woman Missing Since 2003 Found In Son’s Cupboard by Ade0001(m): 3:50am On May 14, 2013
The police in Imo have arrested one Chimezie Osuigwe, a retired vice-principal, for the alleged murder of his 78-year-old mother in 2003.

Osuigwe was arrested after the embalmed body of the septuagenarian was discovered in a cupboard at his house by a family member.

According to Mr Musa Katsina, the Commissioner of Police in Imo, the woman, Mrs Lucy Osuigwe, was declared missing since 2003.

Katsina told newsmen at the house in Ejemekuru in Oguta Local Government Area on Monday that the embalmed body had been kept in that condition since 2003.

“The corpse of Mrs Lucy Osuigwe, who was declared missing in 2003 was found in a large cupboard inside a shrine in a private room in a circumstance depicting ritual practice.

“The embalmed body, which was kept in that condition for about 10 years is believed to have been placed in the wardrobe by her son, Dr Chimezie Osuigwe, a devotee of the Guru Maharaji Sect.

“Preliminary assessment of the scene of crime revealed that the woman must have been murdered by the son for ritual purposes,” he said.

The commissioner said that plans were on to arrest other members of the sect who visit Osuigwe’s shrine.

He said the body would be handed over to the forensic team of the command to determine the cause of death.

He also said the suspect would be held for first degree murder until the cause of death was established.

Politics / BUILD UP To 2015??? - Onslaught By Dictators Against Voices Of Dissent??? by Ade0001(m): 5:21am On Apr 11, 2013
Barely two weeks after he challenged the eligibility of President Goodluck Jonathan to stand election in 2015, the man, Mr. Cyriacus Njoku, has been arrested and sent to jail for alleged r a p e.

Similarly, his defence counsel, Mr. Ugochukwu Osuagwu, has fled the country with members of his family, alleging that he had been under constant threats of elimination by unknown persons.

Vanguard learnt that the man had been granted asylum by the German government so as to escape from his assailants, believed to be paid by political agents in high places.

He fled Nigeria on April 3, 2013, after taking refuge at German Embassy in Abuja for sometime, trying to escape from those he claimed were after his life for daring to defend Njoku, a freelance journalist and politician.

Njoku, a Peoples Democratic Party member, who had just appealed the judgement of Justice Oniyangi of the Federal High Court that Jonathan was qualified to run in the next election, was arrested by the police on Monday and taken to Suleja Prison, where he had been held under tight security.

The police claim he committed r a p e but did not give details of the offence, which was also hurriedly mentioned at the Suleja court, outside Abuja, where the offence was allegedly committed.

Sources told Vanguard that the man had been kept incommunicado since he was taken away by the security agents, raising fears he could be harmed.

As a result, many of his friends and acquaintances did not know of his predicament until he was able to smuggle a note out of the prison where he is held.

Findings show that neither his lawyers nor family members have been allowed to see Njoku, with the prison authorities claiming that they were under instructions not to allow anybody to see Mr. Njoku.

The detainee had maintained that even if President Jonathan won the election of 2015, he would have been constitutionally barred from taking another oath of office.

However, when the judge dismissed the case, he went on an appeal, which was yet to be heard before his arrest and detention by the security agents.

A constitutional lawyer said yesterday that Mr. Njoku’s appeal was considered dicey because the Supreme Court had in a previous decision (General Marwa vs. Murtala Nyako) concerning the tenure of some state governors, held that a governor could not take oath of office more than twice by virtue of Sections 135 and 137 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Reacting to the development, the Congress for Progressive Change, CPC, described it as a provocative action aimed at muzzling Nigerians.

CPC’s spokesman, Rotimi Fashakin, said Nigerians should rise against the renewed wave of onslaught by dictators against voices of dissent in the country.

The provost of the institution, Professor Faruk Lawal who declined to speak on camera, told Channels Television that the syndicate was discovered when the school authority on suspicion of a foul play in the admission process decided to change the institution’s admission process.

He maintained that the lecturers who had been involved in the practice for more than 10 years were collecting money, ranging from fifty thousand to hundred thousand naira to admit students who did not have the Senior Secondary Certificate (S.S.C.E).

Professor Lawal disclosed that over 1000 students were affected, adding that investigation into the racket was on-going with a view to unmasking other members of the syndicate.

Politics / Ondo Commissioner Slaps Director by Ade0001(m): 9:08am On Jan 15, 2013
Ondo State Commissioner for Transport, Mr Nicolas Tofowomo yesterday threw decorum to the wind as he openly slapped a director in the Ministry of Works, Mr M.J Afeniforo severally over a trivial issue. The commissioner was said to have approached the director for a tractor but Afeniforo was said to have told the commissioner that the tractors were already on various sites.

It was gathered that Afeniforo also told the commissioner that the Commissioner for Works, Gboye Adegbenro was aware of the development and asked him to call to verify. But Tofowomo, howev,er allegedly the commissioner for works and told him that the director of mechanical had diverted the tractors to his home town.

The director, it was learnt cautioned Tofowomo not to lie against him since he was saying the tractors were diverted to Ilara-Mokin. The commissioner was furious and slapped the director several times for arguing with him, an attitude sources in the ministry said had become common with Tofowomo. The development triggered the anger of workers of the ministry, who trooped out to protest injustice meted out on their senior officer and the commissioner, who sensed danger left hurriedly to his office.

The protest was later hijacked by the state chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC), who converged on the premises of the ministry to protest the assault on Afeniforo. But the intervention of the Chairman of the Joint Negotiation Council, Mr. Solomon Adelegan saved the situation, as workers were poised to show the commissioner the way out of the ministry. The aggrieved workers vowed to deal with the commissioner if he did not stop what they called animalistic behaviour.

The Head of Service, Mrs. Kosemani Kolawole, invited the assaulted director and the permanent secretary, probably with a view to resolving the matter . All efforts to get the embattled commissioner to comment on the issue proved abortive as he did not respond to the calls put to him.

@Onatisi: While I agree that an ex-President / retired general deserve some respect, he should also strive to be good example to the younger generation.

OBJ is reminding us once again that laws in this country are for the poor masses only. He should bury his head in shame that a delivery van belonging to his farm flouted the law, and all he could do was trying to use personal recognition to effect the release of such. It would have been a different story if the vehicle involved has been his personal vehicle conveying him to an important engagement.

Only in Nigeria will a leader shows contempt for laws and still be proud about it. God help our generation.

PointB:

What indication do you have from the article that Fashola supports regionalism as you put it? Fashola doesn't appear to suppport anything other than his simplistic call for attitudinal changes.

Somehow I think Fashola is being hypocritical here. How many laws has he enacted in Lagos state this year alone - many targeting Okadas riders, drivers, agberoes and others. Why did he preach the gospel of attitudinal changes to them. Recently, Fashola muted the idea of enacting a law that forces Lagos residents to change their 'foreign' car plate number to that of Lagos. My point again is, are those laws really needed? Why not suggest change in behavior in a subtle way as he is suggesting now?

If he sincere believe amendment of laws, or new laws are need to fix his state, why can't same apply at the national level. There is something very wrong with Fashola's posture. Simple.

@PointB, i think Fash is not only preaching attitudinal changes,

The Lagos State governor further called for moral rebirth on the part of Nigerians, as he noted that Nigerians must develop a sincerity of purpose to make the new constitution being envisaged work.

Politics / Re: How Akingbola Siphoned Intercontinental Bank’s N18.6bn by Ade0001(m): 9:58am On Nov 16, 2011
http://www.thenationonlineng.net/2011/index.php?news=26463

A Lagos State High Court, Ikeja, yesterday heard that a former Managing Director of Intercontinental Bank Plc, Dr Erastus Akingbola made “irregular” payments amounting to N16.8 billion to companies in which he is a director.

A firm, Tropics Finance Limited, sent a letter addressed to Akingbola requesting for the payment of N10billion for share purchased for the bank. The payment was approved, the court was told.

Intercontinental Bank’s Chief Inspector, Abdulraheem Jimoh said the money was shared among three companies – Tropics Securities Limited, Tropics Properties and Bankinson Limited.

“Dr Erastus Akingbola is a director in the three companies and also a signatory to their accounts. His wife Anthonia is also a director and a signatory to the accounts of the three companies,” Jimoh added.

He was testifying at the trial of Akingbola and General Manager of Tropics Securities Limited, Mr Bayo Dada. Both were charged by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) with 22 counts of stealing Intercontinental Bank’s N47.1 billion.

Jimoh said several original documents of questionable transactions authorised by Akingbola were missing from the bank. He tendered photocopies of some of them.

According to the witness, the bank’s management asked him to investigate other irregular payments. He discovered that a further N8.6billion was paid the three companies.

His words: “I discovered that N8.6billion was improperly paid out from the bank’s account between May and June 30, 2009. The payments were to Tropics Finance Limited, Tropics Properties Limited and Bankinson Limited. In all cases Dr Akingbola had interest in these companies.”

Jimoh said Akingbola authorised via an unsigned memo the transfer of 1.3million pounds to a foreign law firm, Fuglar Solicitors from the bank’s Nostro account, which was against normal banking practice.

“Instructions should normally be in writing. It is not the practice to give verbal instructions,” he said.

According to Jimoh, the money used to pay Tropics Finance was taken from an account which had depositors’ money and placed in the bank’s prepayment account (also known as general account).

Manager’s cheques were subsequently issued in the amount stated in the letter for the beneficiary companies, Jimoh said.

On how he got the details, he said: “They were traced to the companies’ accounts in Access Bank where they were given value. We wrote to Access Bank asking for information on the promoters of the companies, to which they replied.”

Akingbola’s counsel, Mr Deji Sasegbon (SAN) and Chief Felix Fagbohungbe (SAN) opposed most of the documents tendered by EFCC counsel, Mr Godwin Obla, because they were photocopies and were not part of the original proof of evidence.

Sasegbon said: “This is not how trial is done. This is trial by ambush. This style of trial is bizarre. It has been turned to a summary trial, not trial by information.

“These were documents handed to us this morning. We need adequate time to go through them with the defendant to prepare our defence.”

But in each occasion, the trial judge, Justice Habib Abiru, overruled Sasegbon and admitted the documents in evidence.

The court also refused the defence lawyers’ request for an adjournment to enable them study the new evidence. This was after Obla argued that the EFCC had the right to bring whatever evidence it wanted at any time.

Trial continues today.

(a) subject to the provisions of section 28 of this Constitution, he has voluntarily acquired the citizenship of a country other than Nigeria or, except in such cases as may be prescribed by the National Assembly, he has made a declaration of allegiance to such other country

Politics / Re: Labour Party Logo Was Excluded From Ballot Paper! What Happens Thereafter? by Ade0001(m): 2:06pm On Apr 10, 2011
Nothing will happen to the election. Durosimi-Etti seems to be the problem himself.

1. The form he completed and submitted to INEC bears no acknowledgement stamp as required.
Negligence on the part of both the Independent National Electoral Commission and the Labour Party may enhance the chances of the former Lagos State first lady and Action Congress of Nigeria candidate for Lagos Central, Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu in the senatorial election, which held Saturday.

Facts available to THISDAY showed that LP, which has Mr. Dapo Durosimi-Etti as its candidate for Lagos Central, was unable to secure INEC’s acknowledgment after submitting his senate form, a situation generally considered an act of negligence.

2. His name was never included in the list displayed by INEC all this while, and both himself and his party kept quiet all along.

the report says " security operatives, acting on a court order" . i think it's fair for people to get the details of the purported court order before pointing accusing finger at GEJ. we don't have to associate everything with politics. The truth is that Thisday has been in debt for a while
Politics / Workers Ground Activities At Union Bank Hqtrs by Ade0001(m): 1:22pm On Aug 31, 2010
http://www.tribune.com.ng/index.php/news/10434-workers-ground-activities-at-union-bank-hqtrs-its-a-lie-mgt

ACTIVITIES at the head office of Union Bank were, on Monday, grounded to halt, following protests by the workers over sundry allegations against the interim management appointed for the bank by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

The workers, wearing red armband and ready for the protest as early as 7.00 a.m, called for the sack of the entire management.

Their allegations were centred on mismanagement, transferring of unspecified amount of funds to the United Kingdom (UK) branch of another bank, ethnic cleansing, massive shedding of its work force without following due process and arbitrary increase of management staff salaries, among others.

According to a member of the local chapter of the Association of Senior Staff of Banks, Insurance and Financial Institutions (ASSBIFI), who pleaded anonymity, the workers had come to realise that the current leadership, appointed by the apex bank in August 2009, had no confidence in the bank they were meant to salvage.

He said recently, the new management transferred huge sums of money realised from genuine transactions to a UK account of another bank, as against Union Bank, which also had a subsidiary in that country.

The workers also alleged that the current management unilaterally increased their salaries against the business interest of the bank, adding that the sacked executive members earned less than what the new management currently earned.

Other allegations were the pension scheme, purchase of bullet proof cars for the executive directors and the sack and replacement of workers based on some ethnic considerations.

They, therefore, insisted they would not go back to work until the current management was sacked by the apex bank.

Nigerian Tribune gathered that the management was holding meeting with labour leaders drawn from the head office of ASSBIFI and National Union of Banks, Insurance and Financial Institutions Employment (NUBIFIE).

Reacting, Head Corporate Affair, Mr Francis Barde, who confirmed the meeting of staff with the management, however, denied that the bank was shut down.

“What you saw today are members of staff of the bank waiting to welcome officials of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), who were scheduled to meet with the banks management based on the allegations published in the papers last week.

Barde, however, declined to comment on the outcome of the NLC meeting with the bank’s management.
Politics / Re: Court Fixes August 30 For Akingbola’s Bail Hearing ! by Ade0001(m): 12:04pm On Aug 27, 2010
@080Nigeria -- You've said it all. Akingbola should not be labelled a criminal just because some people in power called him so, without an opportunity to defend himself. Let him respond to all the allegations before a competent court. While he was away, EFCC brought more than a 100 charges, only for them to substitute them with 28 charges when the case was eventually mentioned in court.

Sanusi seems to take advantage of most of us by delivering the sacked CEOs to the court of public opinion where so many people will be ready to pronounce judgement after listening to only the complainant.

One would have expected some form of maturity on both sides?

But don't we think the Governor speech in the presence of the First lady about her people is too harsh and can possibly be seen as an attempt to bring down the woman who the community might be looking up to as their last hope?
Politics / Accident At Police Checkpoint Again by Ade0001(m): 3:15pm On Aug 19, 2010
Barely a week after the accident caused by a police checkpoint in which 30 people reportedly lost their lives in Lagos State, SouthWest Nigeria, a police check point has caused another accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, near Berger bridge bus stop.
P.M.NEWS learnt that the accident occurred this morning when a truck with registration number XK 6351 SP was stopped by policemen at a checkpoint.

But when the driver was about to stop, he lost control and crushed a Mercedes Benz car with registration number AM 204 KTU and a  Police Gateway Response Squad vehicle with registration number FP 5385 OG.

According to report, the Benz car was towed from Ibafo last week to the police checkpoint for repairs.

Some of the residents of the area, who spoke to P.M.NEWS condemned the action of the policemen who they alleged harass both motorists and passengers on the expressway  to extort money from them.

It was also gathered that two policemen narrowly escaped death last week at the same checkpoint when a truck lost control and ran into their shed.

As at press time, the truck, Mercedes Benz car and the police vehicle were still at the scene of the accident.
