Nwokolo, Abeokutain Featured •‘Ultimatum now Monday’ The Federal Government shifted yesterday its ultimatum for the reopening of universities till Monday. The deadline of its resume-or-be-sacked-directive to striking teachers would have been today. Supervising Minister of Education Nyesom Wike, who gave the much criticised directive, announced the shift of date. He said since the family of the late Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) ex-President Prof. Festus Iyayi informed the ministry of funeral rites for weekend, the resumption date had to be shifted to enable the government participate in the ceremony. Wike said: “The decision to shift the date of the compulsory resumption of federal universities for academic activities is now Monday, December 9. This decision has been taken as a result of the respect we have for the former ASUU President.” He said the Federal Government took the decision to re-open the universities in the interest of Nigerians and not to engage in a showdown with ASUU. Wike said Nigerians should appreciate that the pro-chancellorsand chairmen of the federal universities Governing Councils took the decision to re-open the schools, pointing out that the Federal Government’s directive was to the vice chancellors who are expected to comply with the decision of the pro-chancellors. The Minister said the Federal Government had already opened a dedicated account for the revival of infrastructure in the universities. The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Education, has signed the resolution that the Federal Government will commit N1.3trillion into the revival of infrastructure in the universities, he said, adding that the advertisement of internal and external vacancies is part of the process to address the shortage of manpower in the nation’s universities. According to Wike, the Federal Government has implemented over 80per cent of the issues contained in the 2009 agreement, with only the payment of earned allowances and revitalisation of infrastructure pending. “The Federal Government appreciates the need to revive infrastructure in our universities and other tertiary institutions, hence the government has put in place the process to effectively address the challenges identified by the NEEDS Assessment report voluntarily initiated by President Goodluck Jonathan,” the minister said. National Universities Commission (NUC) Executive Secretary Prof. Julius Okojie is displeased that ASUU members are yet to call off the strike. He said the deadline was not a threat but a call to go back to work. But ASUU restated its rejection of the ultimatum, issuing yesterday a 14-point guideline to its members on why they must sustain the strike. It also said no external force was behind its action and spurned sack threats because, according to ASUU, such a measure is against the Labour Act and the International Labour Organisation’s Convention. The union made its position known in Strike Bulletin No. 14, signed by ASUU National President Dr. Nasir Isa Fagge. ASUU said: “Our union, as you know, derives its strength from members. Government fallacy of ‘external forces’ behind our union only betrays its desperation to distract our genuine cause. You know better! “Do not believe in the falsehood being peddled by certain persons as regards some fictitious ratio of branches that voted for suspension of strike. “ASUU operates strong internal democracy and is capable of taking critical decisions on matters of concern to the Union. Your Union will always do your bidding. “Our struggle is on course; the threat of sack for failure to sign resumption of duty register is part of the oppression that failed in the past. It will fail again.” The union came up with 14 guidelines signaling that it is prepared for a long drawn battle with the Federal Government. |

x-kid2000:well, this myt av bin possible if OAU hav'nt admitted anyone yet. They could av just decided to wait till next year, thereby choosing abt 60% of dose av jst bin admitted, nd 40% frm d coming jambites. Bt presently, d skul has admitted d maximum numba of pple (plus d predites) a skul can accomodate per session according to NUC. So any further addition might go against the regulations of d body. So there is no possible means of admitting more students, considering the facilities on ground. |
Who is this fellow, dat kip changing d name of this thread?? U shd be wise enuf to knw, dis is a thread created solely for dose who are seeking admission into d skul. The fact dat some pple av bin admitted doesnt mean d admission has ended. Right now d name of d thread is vry misleading. Someone visiting d thread 4 d first tym myt jst take it to be for all d undergraduates in OAU, nd are u telling me u dnt knw d skul still admits pple even few days d to matriculation, so why changing d name of d thread dis early?? |
Mhyke: dont tell me u ar a sci studentyes sir, I'd immediately go write a letter to jamb, dat i dnt want d course again. |
World Greatest1: Yes, it can. Ur subjects combo should be Use of english, Mathematics, Economics and Government or Geography. It is either u do Government or u do Geography, if u are going for Accounting as u have stated above. Oau doesnt accepts commerce or accounts in UTME & POST-UTME. Hope that helps.yea, thanks. But i'm actually talking about O'level requirements. Can a combinatn of maths, Eng, Econz, geo nd yoruba [all others are science subjects] be accepted for accounting?? |
Does anybody av an idea if Geography can be accepted in lieu of Goverment for accounting in OAU?? Nid an urgent reply on this. |
Na keeper be dis?? |
x-kid2000:lol...metaphysical?? Ah na to go marathon fast be dat o. Ciriously, m sick n tired of all dese crap OAU z trying on predites. Its crazy |
Nothing yet for the predites tho...wot cud be d problem?? |
Why u no go fall in luv with am?? when d guy don hammer...why u nor talk dis one before dem win cup?? Naija girl...chai!!! |
And Nigeria lifts the Cup!!! |
Olastep1: i dont think its quite possible to commence immediately the strike is off. I av my personal reasons, bro. First, most varsities participating would just be settling down. Second, some varsities would start exams immediately. Third, the new date would be a consensus. OAU cant fully decide. Fourth, the sport centre and other sport venues was under intense rehabitation last semester. Hope it'was not drag-footed during the strike.well, when I said two months, I dint mean the duration of the games was going to last for the whole two months, bt according to the organising committe, dere will be two weeks preparations for the games after the strike, then the 3 week NUGA games follows thereafter, and students resume, 3 weeks after the games. And let me also point out to you that the strike didnt stop work on the rehabilation of all the venues and facilities for the games. The sport complex has been fully rehabilitated and all has been set for the games And trust me, I believe, setting a new date wouldnt be a problem once the strike is called off considering the fact that the strike was d only hurdle restricting the commencement of the games in the first place. Besides I dont think its nice enough for the skul to call back students before the games when they would eventually be given another break since the skul hostels will be used as camps for the athletes coming for the games. And we all know the games is long due so I dont see them extending it any further. |
Olastep1: Just wish to share this here:haha...bro, u still need to put in mind, u still av two full months to go even after the strike...except, OAU decides to postpone NUGA till after the second semester, which I dnt think is feasible, ryt nw. |
A.Eyo:make dem increase bid na |
BarryX: Simple Word :lol...its quite funny but dats the fact tho. u jst spoke my mind. I cant stand that kind of situation |
I've always had a crush on this paticular girl, she has always being my friend and we both know there is an age difference between both of us. In this case, she's a bit older than me. I find it hard asking her out because I feel it would look awkward dating someone older than I am. I have a feeling I wont be comfortable in that kind of relationship knowing she is older than me. Now, guys I would like to know ur view on this. Can you date a girl that is obviously older than you? And do you think the relationship can work out well in that kind of situation? |
Errm...can someone plz explain 2 me, wot dis thread is all abt?? Bin readin some naughty posts in here... |

President Goodluck Jonathan will late Wednesday embark on a pilgrimage to Israel. President Jonathan will also meet with President Shimon Peres, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and members of the Israeli Parliament, the Knesset. Talks between President Jonathan’s delegation and Israeli government officials are expected to focus on the enhancement of bilateral relations between economic development, infrastructure, transportation, agriculture, communications, culture, education and tourism. The President is also scheduled to meet with the President of the Palestinian National Authority, Mr. Mahmoud Abbas. President Jonathan who will be accompanied on the trip by Senator Emmanuel Paulker, the Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Akinwunmi Adesina, the Minister of Water Resources, Mrs. Sarah Ochekpe, the Minister of Works, Arc. Mike Onolememen, the Minister of State (Foreign Affairs), Prof Viola Onwuliri, and the National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki will undertake a tour of some locations in Israel which are revered by Christians because of their association with the earthly mission of Jesus Christ. While the President may meet and interact with some other Nigerians who are already on a pilgrimage to Israel, reports in the media that he is leading 19 state governors and about 30,000 Nigerians to Israel are a misrepresentation of facts. Irrespective of President Jonathan’s visit, thousands of Nigerians visit Israel annually during the pilgrimage season which goes on for months and they will undoubtedly do so again between now and early next year. It is entirely fortuitous for some of these Nigerian pilgrims therefore that their visit to Jonathan’s. President Jonathan is expected back in Abuja early next week. papindinho: my thought on the submission of admission list to Jamb is that OAU has submitted one already and Jamb is expected to be on the neck of schools that are yet to release any of their admission lists. So, I don't think OAU will be among strivers for submissionur post is so unrealistic...u mean OAU myt decide nt 2 even send a 2nd list before deadline all because dey've already sent one earlier??...It doesnt work dat way, bro |
