Some more information about your husband's background would help better match him to a career he might enjoy and be good at...

Did he practise and enjoy marine engineering in Nigeria? What was his occupation?

What about other engineering fields? Is he hands on/ technical?

What are his interests? Financial markets, trading, construction etc?

Is he a people person, outgoing etc - would customer service or project management type roles appeal?

Is he good at Maths, Science - would he enjoy teaching?

Would he be open to an entry level role to enable him gain experience in the field he chooses?
Thank you 😊
Yes I think he enjoyed studying and working as a marine engineer. But he only worked for two years after his OND and life happened so he didn’t go back to finish the HND. This was over ten years ago. And before we relocated he was into real estate and other side businesses. He didn’t have an office job for over 10 years.

He doesn’t mind going back into marine engineering but he will need a degree.
He is also open to other engineering fields.

Hello everyone,

Please I am new here
My husband and I are looking to travel to SA in the last week of the month (29th may-12th June)
We would have taken the e visa option but my husband’s passport is expiring in august and the new one won’t be out till July
We are residing in UK. Please what can we do?
The trip is last minute and important.

No 1. And No 2. contradict each other if you say you they are fully funding then want to transfer 1.5m to them to assist.Pick a struggle.

No 3.Your first visa is valid for 6months so if you intend to stay for a week then decide to stay more you are still within the conditions as your visa is still valid.

No 4.Is a personal decision.

No 5.It would not be a red flag to use book on arrival but your bank statement has to show you can afford the amount.

Hope this helps.
Thanks for the response

1&2) we are not saying that they are fully funding the trip we are saying that the money for all expenses is in my dads account including the one we’ve sent to assist. So do I still need to send my own bank statement in that case?

Hello house please my parents and little sister (14 years) will be coming for my graduation in July. We are hoping to apply this week but I have a few questions.

1) if they are saying they will be paying for all their expenses from their account would I still need to show my own statement of account?
2) my elder sis and I want to make a transfer of 1.5m to my dads account this week to assist with the travelling expenses. Would this be a red flag cause of the lump sum?
3) they want to apply stating that they will be staying for 1 week (to reduce the amount of POF needed) but after getting the visa can they extend their stay to two weeks?
4) my mum and my dad plan to stay in an hotel because my apartment is a one bed and I’m married. so my little sis can’t stay in the same hotel room with them. Can I say she would be staying with me in my apartment?
5) lastly I booked their hotel as “book now pay on arrival” and this shows on the booking confirmation. Hope it won’t be a red flag too?

I know it’s a lot of questions but I’ll appreciate any advice I can get please
Please I’m looking out for any advice on this

3. I believe it shouldn't be an issue based on my own experience. My mother inlaw came, some plans changed, and we needed to extend her stay. This didn't affect future application.

4. Write a letter of invitation to say your parents will be staying in hotel but your younger sis will stay with you. Include it in your younger sis application as well. Make sure you attach your prove of accommodation too. When I was living in a studio flat, I did this with my mother in law's application and she was granted. I submitted the tenancy agreement.

Please note these are my own personal experiences..thanks
Noted… Thank you very much

Page 1 Post 3 see the section:

*Work experience while studying & paid internships may count for FSW, read HERE for more details.

*Self Employed applicants are also eligible for FSW, read HERE for more details.

IRCC didn't explicitly ask for tax docs, although some self-employed provide as part of their app.

Why not indicate a job title that aligns with the duties and is easily understood by all. NYSC isn't a job title IMO. The duties matching your NOC is the most important thing.
Thank you so much

Hello House,

Please I’m considering using my NYSC as my one year experience. But my confusion is what to put as my job tittle on the reference letter
Should I ask my employer to put NYSC Corper? As this was what they wrote on my offer letter

Although I’m using the NOC for Human Resource Administrator and this aligns best with my job description.

I also want to use job owner for the other two years of experience as I own a registered make up business. I used to me a make up artist in Nigeria before moving to the UK. It’s been registered since 2918 but I don’t have any tax documents.
I’m also not so sure about how to go about the reference letter for this. And it was a side hustle cause I was first studying and later working 9-5 while also running the business.
I have chats with clients and some payment I can prove but I don’t have a business account.
Is it safe to use this ?
Please any advice on this 🙏🏽

That notice period is too long but I understand why they did that. If you find another job, you can make them dismiss you. That way you don't have to wait for 6 months. grin

I want to know whether to dispute the notice period or just accept it. Bearing in mind that I won’t be able to switch jobs within that 5 years with that long notice period

Adunnishugar:
Hello house,
(long read, please bear with me)

I need some advice on this pls.
I just switched to a skilled worker visa as a support worker.
It took quite a lot of consideration before deciding to take the sponsorship offer because I did not want to take the 5 year gap from my desired career (Human Resources).
I later decided to take up the job with the hope that I will keep searching for my desired job and switch sponsors if I am successful.
So few weeks ago my new BRP arrived and now I have been sent the employment contract to sign.
The problem now is that the contract has a 6 months notice period. The funniest part is that during my 6 months probation I still have to give 6 months notice while they can dismiss me with one week notice during this probation period.
I have searched online and there is no maximum notice period required from an employer. But reasonable notice periods should be between 1-3 months. Longer notice periods should have justified reasons (which they don’t have)

I’m an worried that I would not be able to secure another job with this notice period and I am also concerned about whether there will be any consequences if I try to dispute this factor (consequences such as them withdrawing sponsorship).

Please I would appreciate any advice I can get on this🙏🏽

1.Not really it depends on funds available but don’t apply for a football team.I had 5 at my graduation in 2011 but all immediate family.

2.Yes you need to prove the trip can be afforded.

3.Ideally by May as wait time is average 4weeks.
Thank you, I appreciate.

Hello All,

Please I need some advice on this.
My family will like to come attend my graduation ceremony in July.
I finished my MSc in January and just switched to a skilled worker visa.
My mum, dad and little sis(13 years) will be coming from Nigeria. While my elder sis will apply from US. My mum and sis are the only ones with a travel history outside Nigeria.

I have the following questions please;
1) is there a limit to the number of family members I can invite.
2) Do they need proof of income/funds?
3) when should we start the visa application?

Basically I would appreciate any form of information or advice I can be given regarding this. Especially from those who have done same process.

Thank you so much.

People do this and get away with it, the onus is on you to show that there is blood connection. There are few other ways to add points which are not as cumbersome as the route you are exploring like, learning French, added certificate, maxing out IELTS etc. Have these options been explored? We don’t support illegality here!
Thank you,
We’ve explored all these options, education(masters), IELTS, Age etc. except French, cause I don’t have any knowledge there.

It is well… will probably just wait to gather more work experience then.

Hello house,

Please I’m new to this thread as I just recently started considering moving from UK to Canada via the FSW. Please I have quite a few questions.

So first, my major dilemma is this, my husband has a “sister” who is a Canadian Citizen. When he was very young his family fell on tough times and he went to live with her mum. She brought him up through most of his childhood and there are pictures to prove this. Only issue is there was no legal adoption done. But to me she is a mother to him in every sense of it. I even got to know her first before meeting his biological mother.

So the thing now is his sister in Canada keeps insisting we should apply and claim that he has a sister who is a citizen (this will bring our points up to 470). I asked her how she plans for us to prove the relationship and she said it is not a big deal and can be done with a letter from her and childhood pictures. I did not want to keep disputing her on this but I really doubt that would be enough evidence. So my question now is, please is there any way we can officially prove they siblings? Or should we not claim the additional points?

Also, If claim and if we don’t claim this, our CRS score will be 470 or 455 accordingly.
Do we stand a chance of being given ITA this year?

Hello house.

Please my sis in law and husband applied for student visa with the hubby as the main applicant.
Their application just reached 15 working days today
Although yesterday they got an email with the following document attached saying their application is successful.

This is unusual as they have not even received the collection email and I know they usually say they don’t send the result of your application online or via phone call. So why was that done in this case.
Also now they don’t know when they will be called for passport collection and whether to go on and book their flight.

Please see below the copy of email received.
Has anyone received something similar to this before receiving collection email?

Hello everyone
Please can some one help with a direct link to gov.Uk where it is stated that students can switch to tier 2 visa without necessarily having to complete their studies?

I know this is the case but my company’s HR is saying they cannot issue my COS until I graduate, I want to challenge them to confirm if this is their personal decision or if they assume this is the law. To do this I need proof from the government website which I have not been able to find.

I am also confused as to whether to challenge this since I’ll be finishing Jan 6th next year either way so I might as well wait till then. But what if they decide to stop sponsoring by then or their slots finish?

By term time, do we assume you mean before expiration of your student visa (previously Tier 4 if issued b4 2021)

For noting: Tier 4 student visa | Tier 2 skilled worker visa
Thank you,
By term time I mean the period of time during my visa period when I’m actively participating in school activities (classes, projects, exams).
I’m my case, my course started 4th January 2022 and will end 6th January 2023, but my visa won’t expire till 6th May 2023. So from 6th January- 6th May 2023 it is considered that I am not on term time and I can work full time
TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 2) by Adunnishugar(f): 3:05am On Sep 20, 2022
Hello everyone.
Please I have a question
It quite a long read though…

So, I am currently in the uk on a Tier 4 visa.
I arrived January this year and I’m finishing my education January 5th next year, although I have from January 5th till May 5th 2023 when my visa expires to work full time because it off term time.

I have been working as a support worker with a company for about 4 months now, but as a bank staff because I can only work 20 hours a week.
Now the company has accepted to sponsor its current employees in need of tier 2 visa.
But I was told they won’t be able to sponsor me because my visa limits me to working 20 hours a week.

Please house, I need to confirm this from here. Because up till now I always assumed I could switch from a tier 4 visa to a tier 2 visa even during term time as long as I have a full time offer from a company willing to sponsor and it will state on the offer letter that I won’t start working full time until my tier 2 visa has been approved.

Please am I wrong… also if anyone has been (or knows someone that has been) able to switch from tier 4 to tier 2 visa even during term time, please I would appreciate if you could share the process the company used.

Thank you all
