@bastage,slowpoke? Seems you have been hurt simply by being exposed as someone who goes around fabricating nonsense and expecting people to debate them. Well, it take an slowpoke to know one so I will conclude that you come from a family full of imbiciles. What a great family you have there.@TayoD, Tayo-D, TayoBlack etc,I have read your post and the excuses. Not enough. "Fabrications"? I make no claims that can't be easily verified by anyone who can be bothered to look.
You and the other Mugabe ass-kissers falsely claim that Zimbabwe is being destroyed by sanctions or because it is being refused money by the West.
Would you care to tell me by what logic the West has hurt Zimbabwe's people and how your good friend Bob is innocent of all charges?
Fabrications and claims are not the same thing. But to a confused person like you they may be seen as the same.

Seems you like licking and kissing asses because it seems you cannot do a complete post without making a reference to licking/kissing asses.

@TayoD,

At least I am not a criminal like you that goes around switching and registering multiple IDs on this forum with the sole intention to deceive people.

These days you can't even tell when a single person starts a thread and responds to the same thread using up to 5 different user IDs.

If you are banned from this forum (just like the other criminal davidylan) then stay out of the forum instead of registering multiple IDs. You should at least have a life outside this forum but it seems that is an impossible advice.

Those like yourself, who lick Mugabe's ass as a way of putting the blame on anyone but him and ZANU-PF live in a dream world. Do us all a favour - Stay there and stop boring the crap out of the rest of us with your delusional fairy stories.
So soon, you are already losing it?

You stated that you are not some sort of lackey of the US based on your post but people like myself lick Mugabe's ass.

This is the typical route clueless people take when they hit a brick wall trying to explain away their ignorance on issues.

If your lousy sense of reasoning is what obtains in the real world then I would rather remain in the dream world.

You seem to have no understanding whatsoever of economics.

When you own the bank, you can run up as much debt as you like. Most of the US debt is owed to guess who? yes - the US itself. It's basically a bank that lends money to itself. Then there is a large proportion of the money that is owed to US business. About 20% of the debt is owed to non-US interests and of that 20% none of it is owed to the IMF. That debt is made up of US Treasury Securities held by foreign governments.
The content in bold refers, it is obvious you are another "I love US pass my mama" poster on this forum. If you don't see anything wrong in the issue of debts and how countries are treated by financial institutions then your case is settled already.

Q&A: Zimbabwe and the IMF
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/4185502.stm

For those who do not understand the relationship between countries and the IMF.

Why is the IMF thinking of expelling Zimbabwe?

The IMF is taking action because Zimbabwe has not paid interest on the money it has borrowed.

The country has suffered five years in which its economy has shrunk, millions have been forced out of work, inflation has soared and the currency has tumbled.

It has been ostracised by both the IMF and donors countries after an election in 2000, which many observers charged was rigged, and since it instituted a policy of seizing land owned by white farmers for redistribution to the black majority.

The seizures meant much of the agriculture sector, the country's biggest export earner, has withered away.

In the midst of that, it is hardly surprising that the $295m it owes the International Monetary Fund in interest on loans taken out over the previous decades has till recently gone unpaid - although $120m was in fact repaid at the end of August.

In total, the country is carrying debts of some $4.5bn.

The IMF is prepared to keep Zimbabwe in the fold - but at the cost of stringent economic conditions, such as limits on spending, which the government of President Robert Mugabe refuses to consider.

Mr Mugabe blames his country's problems on interference from Western countries - in particular the UK, from whom it gained independence in 1980.

But if donors are staying away anyway, what difference would an expulsion make?

The role of the IMF is to give short-term loans to countries in economic difficulties.

Approval by the IMF is also seen as a signal by private lenders that it is safe to lend to that country.

So getting kicked out of the IMF would effectively mean Zimbabwe was ostracised by the international economic community.

That would make it more difficult for anyone wanting to do business with, or in, Zimbabwe to get loans.

In addition, the assumption has to be that whatever the current situation in Zimbabwe, it will one day want to return to seeking loans or even selling government bonds to raise money for public spending.

Basic foodstuffs are sometimes in short supply

Expulsion from the IMF would mean much higher interest rates, much more stringent conditions - and therefore quite possibly a much longer haul back from Zimbabwe's current parlous economic state.

Just how serious a situation is Zimbabwe in?

One index of the gravity of Zimbabwe's predicament is its shrinking population. A census in 2002 suggested that as many as a quarter of its population, or up to 4 million people, have fled to neighbouring countries or headed for the UK, Europe or the USA.

Some believe they face political persecution for supporting the main opposition party, the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC).

But others are simply desperate to find work to support their families.

More than 70% of the Zimbabwean workforce is classed as unemployed. Inflation is currently running at more than 250% a year, while the cost of living - according to the Consumer Council of Zimbabwe - has tripled since the start of 2005.

And while five years ago the official exchange rate was 55 Zimbabwean dollars to the US dollar, today it has plummeted to more than 24,000. The black market rate is about twice that.

Key to the problem, economists say, is that both industry and agriculture have been devastated over the past half-decade - meaning a drastic shortage of goods both for domestic use and for export.

Without exports, the country cannot raise foreign currency to buy fuel, import food to feed an estimated 4 million people suffering malnutrition,

Oddly, through all of this the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange has soared - not least because speculation has been one of the few ways to make money.

Agricultural production has plummeted

But during much of August there was no trading on the exchange, after the government threatened a 10% withholding tax on share deals and a rule change which would have forced pension funds to put much of their assets into government bonds rather than equities.

So what can Zimbabwe do?

The most concrete step came on 1 September, when Reserve Bank governor Gideon Gono said the government had repaid $120m to the IMF as a sign of its sincerity about the arrears.

The money, he said, had been raised from exporters and holders of overseas assets.

But many observers doubt this would be possible, with South Africa's Business Day paper saying it might come from undeclared foreign exchange reserves - if true, hardly a situation likely to please the IMF.

Others have speculated that China may have come up with the cash.

In July, President Mugabe travelled to Beijing to seek help.

China has become a key trading partner when other countries have stayed away, and Chinese firms and individuals have now taken over many businesses and properties in Zimbabwe.

Despite warm words, President Mugabe apparently came away empty-handed, but it is possible that a deal could have been struck.

Foreign exchange is needed to replenish fuel supplies

Alternatively, there is South Africa, which is currently discussing a possible loan which would both provide working capital for the government in Harare and stave off the IMF expulsion.

Media reports initially suggested US$1bn, but a more likely figure is thought to be US$200-500m.

Still, South Africa has indicated that it, too, would require changes in economic policy to boost production and get inflation and the decline in the currency under control - conditions which Zimbabwean ministers say they refuse to accept.
The hypocrisy continues.

Zimbabwe with just $4.5B debt is in trouble but the US with over $10Trillion debt is calling the shots and currently is facing a serious economic crisis coupled with monumental frauds and big organizations going bankrupt while others are looking for free money in the bailout plan.

Seems I need to continue watching Jack Bauer in Season 7 of 24 instead of reading this crap posted above.

Did you get permission from the people involved before posting their pictures online? What were your intentions if not to steal. Ole barawo.  If you feel it was necessary to post your picture, why not do that honorably instead of the deceit?
If I needed my picture with other members of the school team online I believe Nairaland would be the last place I would be advertising that and on my personal website there are issues and general gallery on that website without any being my picture.

If you ever saw a group picture of footballers there then know the picture was uploaded when the application moved from development to production environment (as pictures were used to test the application I wrote from scratch) and I never pointed out anyone on the said picture as being Afam but again a born liar will always tell lies to misinform.

So, I do not have any reason to post my picture online (unlike you that is embarrassing mankind with that thing you claim is your picture) neither have I ever singled myself out of a group picture to explain to anyone that I was in any group picture.

I have taken time to address this issue because people like you will continue to repeat lies until people begin to wonder if those lies are actually facts.

there are no economic sanctions on Zimbabwe - simply TRAVEL BANS on their leadership and targeted sanctions on businesses run by corrupt leaders.

http://www.voanews.com/uspolicy/archive/2005-11/2005-11-23-voa3.cfm?CFID=80353928&CFTOKEN=58460640

US. sanctions are not aimed at the general economy and do not impose an economic “blockade” on Zimbabwe. Zimbabwean firms not connected to government leaders are free to do business with American firms; Americans firms are free to invest in and trade with Zimbabwe, so long as they avoid business deals with top officials. Moreover, the United States will still provide humanitarian aid and help Zimbabwe confront the HIV/AIDS pandemic. Since 2002, the US. has provided more than three-hundred-million dollars of food assistance to Zimbabwe. Zimbabweans should not suffer because of the crimes of their leadership.
If the post above is true then we can as well blame the firms that are not connected to Mugabe for running down the economy.

What's really going on here, trying to twist everything just to find Mugabe guilty? Even the West cannot successfully wash its hands off the mess that is Zimbabwe today.

Meanwhile we have global financial crisis, so even with the World bank, IMF etc countries like US is having a failing economy and we are talking about Mugabe?

Thanks for the comments.

Even if Windows automatic update is turned on and data that has to do with anti virus is taken into account, it is the duty of the service provider to make available whatever tool it is using to determine when a subscriber has reached or exceeded the limit.

And to begin to take more from subscribers without any notice is wrong considering the amount of money that is involved. I mean for just checking you email you could end up spending N400.00 in under 4 or 5 minutes when we have ISPs that provide 24hr internet access for less than N400.00 or even N300.00.

@Phony200,

While I disagree with MTN on its fraudulent billing I do not agree that the N10k is for access charge only.

If you can handle about 100MB per day you will be just fine. So, anyone paying more than the N10k in any given 30 day period would most likely have exceeded the 3GB.

My problem with MTN is that it will not send any notice that you have exceeded the limit allowed (even when it can effortlessly do so) neither will it provide you a reasonable tool to monitor your data usage (since the one provided is not used by MTN to determine actual usage.

Put differently, MTN can wake up one morning and change the status of your plan to data exceeded and then proceed to bill you like mad.

NB: I don't need 30 minutes to type the post above as believe my typing speed is very ok.

Logic - The two of you have used multiple usernames on this forum when you were banned by the Forum admin for gross stupidity and that makes the two of you criminally minded, maybe scammers.

Reason - A person that will ordinarily use multiple identities on a public forum is more likely to lie, cheat and misinform people anytime he/she has the opportunity to do so.

Common sense - Habits they say die hard so it is useless trying to correct or educate people that lie and use multiple identities on discussion boards.

Technology MarketRe: Time To Take Energy Efficiency Serious by Afam(op): 8:23pm On Dec 17, 2008
A 2 bedroom flat could run appliances that are more in number compared to a 5 bedroom bungalow depending on what the person is using.

So, things like regular 3 bedroom flat and a couple of electronics don't help in inverter backup systems as every single load must be accounted for since that is what will be used to determine the inverter capacity required and the number of batteries needed to provide any autonomy needed.

So, without a list of appliances and their power ratings known any service provider telling you anything about an inverter capacity or number of batteries needed is doing guess work and this unnecessary guess work has caused a lot of problems for Nigerians.

NB: It is good that you have given your reason for calling the person that answered your call rude - asking you to visit the website where all these things have been made available. Good luck to you.

MTN 3G Billing Fraud - Unacceptable

The MTN 3G Internet access service has proven to be pure fraud as regards billing. I got the following text message the very day I subscribed to the service.

Welcome to 3GB 30-Day data plan. Expires: 17.12.2008 13:08. Text 2 to 131 to check balance. 15kobo per kB applies after 3GB, outside bundle, or after expiry. Time: 17/11/2008 12:13:13

I got the following text message on the 15th December 2008, two days before the expiry date

Your 3GB 30-Day data plan is going to expire on 17/12/2008 13:08. Time: 15/12/2008 12:11:52

On the 16th December 2008 I noticed that though connection was possible nothing could be accessed online, browsing was impossible.

I called 180 and the service was either unavailable or customer care agents were unavailable. I called a friend who works at MTN and after informing him that I could not access the internet he asked me to provide the SIM number.

I loaded N400.00 to the SIM and used the SIM to call another number so as to retrieve the number since I wasn't with the SIM pack and didn't store the number anywhere.

When I tried to connect to the internet everything went fine and for some reasons I decided to check the balance and noticed that under 5 minutes over N300.00 was gone from the credit I loaded without my making any call. I clicked on another page and checked the balance again and noticed that a further N30.00 had been taken.

The MTN 3G Internet Access comes with a User Interface where basic information including statistics can be accessed.

As at today, 16th December 2008 the statistics tab has the following information

Daily - uploaded data - 1.02MB/downloaded data - 1.68MB
Monthly - uploaded data - 103.30MB/downloaded data - 1.7GB
Yearly - uploaded data - 179.89MB/downloaded data - 2.81GB

The last information actually represents total data usage for the first month of using this service.

At the bottom of the statistics page we have the following

Please note: These data counter are used for indicative purposes only (exact words, not mine)

So, the facts are

1. The welcome message clearly stated that 15kobo per kB applies after 3GB bundle, outside bundle or after expiry.

The message is clear but the implementation is unprofessional based on the essence of this piece

2. The statistics tab remains the only visual display or data usage tool that gives an indication of data transferred either direction

This means that this tool should be the definitive guide as regards data usage.

3. MTN remained very silent on what constituted 3GB 30-Day plan as regards the data transferred.

This should be clearly stated so that subscribers would understand perfectly what they are paying for. This is a fee based service so the service provider should be honest and open enough to state what was at stake.

4. Is the 3GB made up of just the uploaded data or both the uploaded data and downloaded data?

Assuming the worst case scenario where the 3GB includes both uploaded and downloaded data as at the time of writing this piece (more than 24hrs before expiry, data usage still below 3GB and about N400.00 extra deducted from account) it is still fraudulent for MTN to take money from a subscriber's account without any notice.

5. The combined total of the uploaded data and downloaded data as at the time connection was cut off was less than 3GB.

Based on this fact can MTN prove that the money taken (about N400.00) was not fraudulently taken since all the available parameters and tools support that I have neither exceeded the 30 days allowed nor exceeded the 3GB bundle allowed.

6. Taking over N400.00 for 2.7MB of data (uploaded and downloaded) without any notice is wrong

At this rate then it is very possible for a subscriber to incur up to N15,000.00 (100MB of data) in a single day without knowing and of course without any notice whatsoever from MTN that the data bundle has been exhausted.

As things stand today, no one (not even MTN) can demonstrate when a subscriber hit the limit of 3GB data bandwidth allowed and paid for.

MTN should demonstrate that it is not deliberately taking money belonging to subscribers unjustly by providing a comprehensive statistics of data usage.

MTN should send a notice to subscriber once the 3GB data bundle allowed is exhausted.

MTN should prompt users to accept the extra 15K per kB after notification has been sent so that any user trying to user the facility will immediately know what the cost is.

Without these implementations then the average user of this 3G internet service will have a very bad time.

Take a look at these scenarios

30 days 3GB data bundle - N10,000.00. Comes to about 100MB per day.

The 15kobo per kB after the 3GB bundle expiry (never mind that you don't get any notice or warning) would amount to a massive N450,000.00 in 30 days assuming you kept accessing the internet even if you were still within the 30 days allowed when MTN starts deducting money from your account.

If MTN can send a reminder to subscribers that the 30 day period is about expiring then I believe it will not cost MTN anything to inform or warn subscribers that they have indeed reached the limit that was placed on the bundle.

The only reason why MTN is not doing this is because it will make more money by not doing it. The subscribers cannot determine when they have reached the limit and the only tool provided by MTN cannot be trusted so where lies the ultimate responsibility for accountability here? Certainly not the subscriber who is paying for a service and expects very simple and clear billing process that can be audited.

May be, the ISPs that have been providing regular dial up services with about 5kbs - 14kbs speed (without upper limit) still have something to offer Nigerians.

As for me, I am going to reactivate one or more data schemes from these ISPs because I don't believe in paying for something that cannot be accounted for especially when the service provider should have necessary tools to make the whole billing process open and simple to understand.

Trip to MTN Service Centre

I visited an MTN Service Centre at Opebi to renew my service plan and to change the scheme. When I complained about the billing fraud a lady asked for my MTN 3G data module, plugged same into her laptop and tried to send some messages and after deleting up to 20 messages from the screen she showed me one that stated that I had exceeded the 3GB bandwidth allowed.

Now, I met someone who came to complain about the same thing and his case was even worse because he loaded N50,000.00 and MTN (in my presence) could only account for N30,000.00 deducted over 3 months as the balance of N20,000.00 disappeared as excess charges for the 15kobo per kB outside the bundle and in fact they informed the man that he still has an outstanding N12,000.00 to pay.

In all these, the man did not get any notice, no message, no warning, no prompt. Money was just being taken away with reckless abandon.

After much talk MTN informed us (at least we were two people complaining now) that we should be sending 101 to 131 to check our balance and when I asked the guy how frequent he would advice us to do this since you never can know when you have exceeded the bandwidth and it does not make any sense to be sending a particular code to a particular MTN number every day or every hour for that matter. The customer service agent could not answer this question as the answer would definitely show (as if he didn't know what MTN was doing) everyone around that MTN was making a lot of money by not notifying subscribers that they have reached the limit.

If MTN can send a 30 day expiry reminder (without the subscriber sending a code) then it can also send a 3GB limit reached/exceeded notice to subscribers
without the subscribers having to send a code to MTN every day or every hour.

And why should subscribers keep sending text messages to check balance when most people that use this 3G internet access use it strictly for internet access and not regular calls. This does not make sense. It seems it is a way to make a simple task difficult so that more and more people could be billed without their knowledge.

So, what then is the essence of the Statistics tool when the information it provides is meaningless? Why use a statistics tool that is not only misleading but inaccurate and useless when it comes to billing?

What then is the definitive tool used by MTN to determine that a subscriber has indeed reached or exceeded the 3GB allowed? Assuming there is a tool MTN uses for this what stops MTN from using this particular tool to provide information to subscribers?

I doubt if manpower or technology limitation is the problem here. Obviously, it is a business decision whereby an unsuspecting subscriber (especially post paid plan) could be charged as much as N15,000.00 per day or N450,000.00 in one month just because MTN could not notify the subscriber that the maximum 3GB allowed has been exceeded.

Nigerians deserve better. There is absolutely no reason why Nigerians should be ripped off in this manner. Should we all now budget as much as N450,000.00 for just 3GB data bandwidth at 100MB per day on the average? Even our politicians that make easy money will not find this one funny at all.

@RichyBlack & Tornadoz,

Long time.

I see you guys are still trying to educate the likes of davidylan and TayoD.

Save your energy and use it to watch movies as these guys are clueless, their ever lasting love for anything Bush, USA and their hatred for anything Islam, Arab are well noted and documented.

@topic,

Bush was a monumental failure. A complete disaster. He has made the world unsafe and countless number of innocent people have been killed just because this man Bush lied to the world to attack a sovereign nation.

The only good thing about Bush today is that he has about 32 days to leave the White House.

@dvonne,

Thanks for your comments.

Why wouldn't service providers concentrate on providing quality and reliable service while the customers concentrate on getting value for their money?

Personally, there is no reason in the world why a customer should insult a service provider or a service provider insult a customer.

The problem is poverty and the desperate desire to make money at all cost.

Remember, people pay for goods and services because they need them and they are paying to those that have them so in essence both the service provider and the customer need each other.

@Afam,
I tire for you o. The numbers listed on your website as contact, i called and one rude man picked up. When the call disconnected, i had learnt nothing. Then i email the addresses on your site and post here that i have, no reply. I go like buy inverter for christmas. My email is still on this thread. In case you have extra time between your numerous activities and clients, you can email. Thank you.
P.s hyperballer1@yahoo.com or 08032956339. Either way, hope i hear from you.
One rude man? What did the rude man tell you? What did you ask for? Clarify so that others will understand you.

I remember picking a call from someone that asked me to tell him the cost of inverter, backup and installation cost and I told the person that the cost of inverters is on the website, the cost of batteries on the same website.

You cannot get a quote for a backup solution when the service provider does not know the loads you want to power (this determines the inverter capacity), the backup time required (this determines the battery bank) and the type of wiring system in the person's house or office.

So, if you were the person that made that call it may be that you were asking the wrong questions and when you were advised on what to do you felt the person was being rude. Trust me when I say this; time is money and I will not spend my time repeating what has been made available on the website, that is the whole essence of having a website.

I cannot handle 1000 calls in a day but the website can effectively handle 1000000 visitors in a day.

You might be right, but one thing a business owner should remember is not to play or undermine customer's service.

As a business owner, you might think that customers are at your mercy. But when customers stops coming, YOU go out of business, When you start to have trickle numbers of customers your profit goes down.
Customer service is one thing, having a customer insult a service provider is another. No one is at the mercy of anyone and in reality both the service provider and customer need each other. Unfortunately, many of us have not realized this because many companies provide services that are not excellent so they are more than ready to pamper you when you say or do anything.

People will always patronize reliable products or services even at very high prices, this I can attest to first hand. I have provided services that are over 200% of what competitors charge and customers do not have problems paying even when they know the prices are high.

Hence customers are the soul of successful businesses, you must do everything to capture and keep them,I can only say that not every persons who came to your business place ought to be your customer.
Do everything to capture them? Including tolerating lies, misinformation (that sometimes form the basis of disagreements) and insults? I disagree with your position above.

There are always enough customers for any reliable business out there.

There are a lot of opportunities and new opportunities are coming up every day.

The issue really is that some people or businesses have had rough times with some developers and you know what they say about bad news traveling faster.
