The people of Ekiti should begin the recall process as their senator has no business being in the senate if this is the type of nonsense he can come up with considering the number of serious issues needing attention in Nigeria right now.

PoliticsRe: Waziri's Appointment Confirmed! by Afam(m): 1:07pm On Jun 05, 2008
I believe Nigeria as a nation is not yet ripe for the type of rule of law that Yar'adua is preaching because desperate politicians will always take advantage of that to escape justice, at least as long as the current IGP and AG are still in office and the new boss remains a surety to one of the corrupt governors facing corruption charges by the same EFCC she is now heading.

Sometimes I wish for a military leader that can simply fix this country, we cannot handle desperate bad people with kid gloves.

@topic,

The conclusion is based on a complete lack of understanding of the issue the poster raised.

I once stated that the poster is certainly new to the internet and he makes sometimes very annoying and ridiculous claims that makes you wonder why the moderators are not deleting such misleading and useless threads.

Is there anything wrong in someone asking questions when in doubt?

Point of correction

Just wanted to keep folks up to date with this power debate because I have seen lots
of misinformation thrown around this thread.

The NIPP plants at Geregu, Papalanto and Omotosho have been completed. The only
reason they aren't producing power is inadequate gas pipeline to fuel them and
yar'adua's minister of state for power just announced yesterday that the gas
pipelines to these plants should be completed by June this year.

The NIPP plant at Alaoji I believe is over 95% completed. That brings the total
to 4 plants that are completed.

Also, the amount of money spent is somewhere around $5 billion dollars. The $10 billion
and $16 billion being mentioned here and there were just figures thrown out there
before the right figure was arrived at.

The central bank, finance ministry and accountant general of the federation have all
stated (at the house probe sittings) that the amount spent is around $5 billion. We should please use the
correct figures in our posts. Thx.
Thanks for the update. Unfortunately, many Nigerians do not give a damn about facts because they are not too sweet and they don't give enough reasons to bash or insult OBJ.

Those who should know have clearly stated that not more than $65B was spent (with about $1.2B not yet disbursed) yet we have the House Committee talking about $16B and Yar'adua talking about $10B. Yar'adua even had to fire his economic adviser for trying to correct him.

The day we rid this country of rumor mongers, liars and crooks is the day we will begin to heal this nation. We have too many lies and misinformation going around.
PoliticsRe: Capital Cities Of West Africa States Are Coastal Cities Except Nigeria by Afam(m): 6:59pm On May 30, 2008
Tayo-D:
@topic,

Let me add some conspiracy type reason why the Capital was moved to Abuja. from what i gathered in those days, it was part of IBB's grand scheme to hold unto power at all costs. if you remember, the Gideon Orkar coup almost toppled him. His ADC was killed defending him during the coup D'etat. IBB felt he had no control over Lagos and that it will be ungovernable in the event of civil unrest. The best place he could go without feeling much of the heat was Abuja.

While this reason may not be tenable for academic purposes, I kind of believe there is some truth to the story.
This is the type of reasoning you get from misinformed Nigerians who think they know anything about Nigeria and will gladly fight over nonsense.

So, Abuja has now been twisted to be IBB's baby? This is a shame, huge one.

Another post by someone that should have been aborted a long time ago.

As usual when idiots like these lose out in any argument they lie, fabricate things to suit their warped sense of reasoning.

For the records, I do not sell generating sets, I do not manufacture them, another shameless lie by someone that was just a pure waste of orgasm.

@topic,

Unfortunately but not unexpected some people have taken the usual stand that Afam is abusing anyone that disagrees with him.

For the records, I never insult anyone for having a different view or opinion on any issue whatsoever.

However, I usually respond to insults in kind so whenever I am insulted because I have an opposing view by anyone I will always respond in kind, no apologies whatsoever on this position.

Even twins from the same womb differ on issues so I wonder why people cannot tolerate positions they do not expressly agree with.

So, those that want to agree or disagree without name calling and abuses no wahala. Those that cannot do without abusing others just tag along I will return your insults without delay.

I am cool relating with people either as friends or as foes. This forum is for sharing of ideas, I doubt if this is a political platform for people to carry out politically motivated attacks on people.

Lies, misinformation, deceits etc must be exposed to prevent innocent Nigerians from being deceived by those spreading them.

@Akede-Oba,

Thanks for your post.

The urge to ignore these idiots is high but the prize we will end up paying if they are allowed to freely and stupidly misinform, lie and manufacture nonsense from time to time will be higher.

It has become fashionable these days to become a defender of the masses simply by abusing OBJ, that is all that is required for you to be seen as a progressive Nigerian.

Ask these people to coherently table their issues and you begin to see the abysmally low level of reasoning that accompanies any nonsense they come up with. Try to correct them with facts and the next thing is that you are branded a paid agent.

I am an independent minded fellow who will get angry or happy based on facts on ground not because some bunch of touts and fraudsters online want me to.

Enjoy and take care.

Palestine Before and After - by Sherri Muzher

"People are tired of hearing about it," a friend once told
me matter-of-factly about the Middle East conflict. Tell
me about it.

As a first-generation American of Palestinian descent, I
can vouch that nobody is more tired of this conflict than
Palestinians. But many of us don't have the luxury of
flipping the channel or ignoring what is happening to our
relatives and friends.

Palestinians with serious illnesses in Gaza are denied
access to medical care. More than 150 have died and
children are being stoned on their way to school by Jewish
settlers.

We do what we can but it never feels sufficient. And though
we're 100 percent Semitic, the usual tiring label of "anti-
Semite" is thrown at us for speaking out against the
injustices.

This month marks the 60th anniversary of Israel's creation
and the dispossession of the Palestinians from their land.
I'll save the history lessons because the realities have
even been acknowledged by Israeli historians, most recently
by Professor Ilan Pappe in 2006 with his book, "The Ethnic
Cleansing of Palestine."

Instead, I'd like to focus on the Palestinian people.

Denying their humanity has taken on many forms in the
Israeli PR arsenal — from employing pop culture to paint
Palestinians as terrorists at conception to the media's
glorification of Israel's birth.

In recent years, pro-Israeli commentaries claim our parents
don't love us. Apparently, my parents' years of love and
sacrifice illustrate they never read the Palestinian manual
for parents.

Sarcasm aside, it all makes strategic sense: Dehumanize
Palestinians or deny their heritage long enough that any
action against them doesn't seem so outrageous, even if
they are expulsions at gunpoint.

Consider that Israeli Prime Minister Golda Meir said in
1969 in an oft-repeated statement, "There is no such thing
as a Palestinian." Too bad she didn't read up on history
because there has been a collective consciousness of their
unique identity for millennia. The ancient Canaanites
weren't called Palestinians, but neither were the
Mesopotamians called Iraqis or the Celts called Irish or
British. Still, the roots are unquestionable and run
eternally deep, from archeological finds to folktales.

Another example of whiting out the Palestinian heritage
is using the term "Israeli Arab." I've never heard of a
generic Arab race — every Arab has a specific heritage,
be it Palestinian, Lebanese, Algerian, etc. Think of
Latin America, where they all speak the same language
(Spanish, except in Portuguese-speaking Brazil) and most
share the same religion (Roman Catholic). In the Arab
world, they all speak Arabic and most are Muslim.
Nonetheless, each country has its own dialect, foods
and customs. Mexicans and Argentines differ, as do
Palestinians and Egyptians.

And within each Arab nation, there is even more diversity —
from distinguishable dialects and expressions, to being
able to identify the region a Palestinian woman came from
by the intricate embroidery on her traditional dress.
Palestinians have always had a rich and vibrant culture
that is all their own, before and after Israel's creation.

There is no question that Palestinians have taken a
bruising with poorly made leadership decisions and
factional fighting in recent years. But what has remained
steadfast is their fierce embrace of identity and their
resilience. This is true not only of Palestinians in
Palestine but those of Palestinian descent in the diaspora.

Whether it was the election of Tony Saca to the presidency
in El Salvador or respected fiscal conservative U.S. Sen.
John Sununu being singled out for praise by Time magazine
or Dr. Motia Khaled Al-Asir being awarded the British
Empire Medal by Queen Elizabeth II, those of Palestinian
descent continue to make their mark around the world.

It is worth repeating that the Jewish Torah teaches us
that man was created in God's image. The Palestinians
have never been absent from this equation.

@naijaking1 & chidichris.

This is what happens when people go round the bend and have nothing reasonable to offer.

Now that all the core issues have been trashed out morons like you have turned to making crazy and stupid allegations like "it is ok not to have power", "ready to die for 3rd term" etc.

I really pity your wives (if any), your kids (if any) because these people will have to contend with complete idiots as long as they are alive.

Well, for the simple fact that you do not have a handle on the issues at hand I am ok because I will certainly not split your skulls open to make you understand basic facts and common sense.

You sure have a right to be stupid or ignorant but choosing to be both stupid and ignorant is a very dangerous combination.

chidichris, your level of comprehension and reasoning is enough to make anyone not to ever want to travel out of Nigeria if this is what you have to offer after travelling out of Nigeria. A pig will remain a pig even if you take it to the US, in you I need not any explanation of that saying, your level of olodoness is really outstanding and unfortunate.

@chidichris,

The problem with responding to your posts is that you are always confused, never coherent and will always jump from one issue to the other without any clear understanding of what you want to pass across.

When you are able to gather your thoughts properly put them down like a human being and you will get reasonable responses, ranting like an idiot won't get you any where.

By the way, your written english has improved, congrats.

Thats not completely true. You can't plan and implement in 18months but you can implement in 18months.
The idea of shifting goal posts or rephrasing issues to suit oneself before providing answers that have nothing to do with the real issues is becoming old fashioned.

I stated that yo cannot start and finish any power project in 18 months, you claimed the statement was not completely true because though you can't plan and implement but you can implement.

I guess you need to go refine your english and understand the meaning os starting and finishing on one hand and then try to understand if planning is basically out of any starting and finishing of a project.

The core issues on this NIPP stuff have been deliberated upon on this thread and of late in the media by a lot of objective people even though a lot of mischief makers, liars and ignorant fools like naijaking1 continue to embarrass themselves every single time they put something down on discussion forums.

Na Najia we dey, won't be surprised when Yar'adua gets all the bashing very soon for wasting valuable time on the power issue.

@Oruwe,

On the contrary I asked you to advice your mother and father to go and work there, were they successful in the interview or are they as dumb as you are?

@fyneguy,

Someone stated the NIPP project is a white elephant project, based on what? Those plants that are gas fired plants I believe have specific quantity of electricity to generate, if whatever they generate are fed into the national grid then power will improve.

Unfortunately, politics, name calling, ignorance have all contributed to a lot of people reducing the whole thing to one man and that is where I differ.

You want us to give Yar'adua 18 months to solve the power problem? No one, quote me anyway will start and finish and power project in 18 months. Maybe he has realized that completion of the about 400 power projects out there will really increase the electricity available and is capitalizing on that.

The House Committee claimed N16B, Yar'adua claimed N10B, OBJ claimed about N6.5B with N1.2B out of the money not yet released. What is the position of the accountant general of the federation who should have the most accurate information since monies are released based on warrants?

Yar'adua fired his economic adviser when he attempted to correct him on the actual amount spent on power.

I live in Nigeria, Agege area to be precise and I go through what ordinary Nigerians go through. However, I have chosen to like or dislike people, organisations or even governments based on facts not rumours and gossips.

I do not want to be used as a tool by the elite to love or hate anyone just because they want me to.

Do have a good day.

@oruwe, naijaking/chidichris,

It is obvious that there is something wrong in the way you reason.

Of course, anytime you fail to make any point you round around making crazy and stupid accusations and allegations.

Who wants the committee scrapped? Who is defending OBJ? This is not about a person, it is about a problem that is far bigger than OBJ but again most of you cannot see anything other that OBJ as a person, someone that may drop dead for all I care tomorrow.

This nation is in a mess not because things can't get better but because we have idiots like you that cannot see beyond your noses.

Projects that were billed to be completed by 2009 (only God knows if that date is still feasible due to the delay) are being sensationalized by a House Committee and the media to the detriment of Nigerians and all pigs like you can come up with is this?

Well, I know for sure that a fool will always remain a fool.

So, it is OBJ's job to scrutinize feasibility studies for power projects?

This is the same way sky blue was running around making childish comments like OBJ was personally signing the cheques for these contracts, so what ignorance, stupidity and senselessness is doing to people on a public discussion forum.

May God help Nigeria.

1. Power supply/Maintaining Generators

For 4 years now, I have not used a generator in my office and I don't even need one, I have an inverter backup system.

www.justalternativepower.com

2. Slow internet connection

This is one crazy area that one has not been able to tackle well as even good ISPs sometimes provide bad services that would make you want to toss the box out of the window. I now have 2 internet connections (with one acting as backup) until a better way od dealing with this comes up.

Why are some people concerned about Iran going nuclear when the US, UK, France all produce nuclear weapons.

Why are some people concerned about Iran going nuclear when India, Pakistan and Israel are not signatories to the NPT and as such develop nuclear weapons.

In the history of the world as it stands together only the US has used atomic bombs on 2 civilian populations and yet they want to dictate who develops what and who can be trusted with what.
WebmastersRe: Web Contracts You Can Never Take by Afam(m): 4:11pm On May 16, 2008
It depends on what you do.

If you design static websites then it will be easy to say no especially when they want you to handle everything.

If you are a programmer and you are paid to develop a script or a content management system then it will be difficult to know how your script will be used especially when you are not in control of the hosting plan. For example any good content management system can be customized and used for anything.

Fraudulent websites should be avoided as anytime the fraudster goes down you follow.

If you continue to focus on what others do to arrive at a competitive pricing you will never get it right.

Skills, experiences and quality of work all contribute to what you charge.

After all we have seen poorly designed websites that were very expensive just as we have some good websites that cost very little to develop, so there is no rigid pattern to follow here.

As long as what you charge is enough to take care of all expenses and a decent profit you are home and dry.

Remember this, regardless of any advice you may receive, ultimately, you are responsible for any actions you take.

Good luck.
