Nairaland GeneralRe: Yarns: The Nairaland Magazine by africanboy(op): 1:38pm On Feb 08, 2010
@suxes2005, the poster is here. I was off nairaland for a while (a long while) after it got infiltrated by some people who doused all the fun. I dont know if they are still here, but I pop in once in a while.

The idea, though not dead, rather, I'll say it is in a coma but could be revived, if the support of Seun and other moderators is available.
RomanceRe: Is It Proper For My Girlfriend To Sleep In A Guys House? by africanboy(m): 12:43pm On Feb 08, 2010
@poster, as much as I would like to say that you should trust your lady, I'll have to be frank and tell that it is down right DIFFICULT. A lot of bad things happen nowadays (am not saying it is happening to you), but you can not eliminate the possibility.

Take her out (when next you see her), talk to her (but dont bring up the topic) and try to find out if her feelings for you have changed or not. If someone else sleeps with her, you most likely will not know unless you are told. Am also making a wild guess and assuming you were not her first and she was not yours either, so her past shouldnt bother (so also a "past" you are not sure about).

Wish you the best.

PoliticsRe: Stop The Satellite Image Lunatic by africanboy(m): 10:17am On Oct 11, 2008
my name is Oladipo Ademola Esq, better known as Africanboy on Nairaland. I joined Nairaland when membership was approx 12,000. I remember we celebrating the 15,000 member. What made me and other pioneers of Nairaland love the site was the simplicity and the speed of loading. Seun, discouraged the use of avatars and images in signatures to ensure optimal speed of the site. When the rules was amended to allow images in signatures, some of us left nairaland because we felt it had been raped. It no longer had the calm we loved about it.

Nigeria1@, it is understood if you have a high speed connection, but what makes a man a gentleman is not what he puts on or says, but how he considers other people. Not everyone has a high speed internet connection, even if they do, they have bandwidth limits. If you use MTN or GLO 3g networks, your bandwidth cap is 3gb in a month. If they spend a week perusing your posts, they'll run out of bandwidth (even though the speed is fast). I use starcomms EVDO and the speed is amazing, my bandwidth is unlimited (I have used 6gb this month already and it is just 11th).

For a while, I have declined from making comments on Nairaland, because I feel that the newcomers (excuse the word) no longer share the values of the pioneers. Many of them are no longer here anyway. They just come in, see the filth and walk away quietly. I do that regularly, I don't even login. But every once in a while, our contributions are golden.

As it has been in some time past, I expect a backlash from this comment, but I am not going to reply it. People can reply 10,000 times, but I have spoken. I will come back to read replies, though. I even created a thread about how I miss the old Nairaland.

Others calling Nigeria1@ names, it is not needed. My advice, use a different browser to view Nairaland and turn off images.
ComputersRe: Google Browser Challenges Microsoft: Google Chrome by africanboy(m): 8:03am On Sep 04, 2008
I like the browser, but I dont think it is Firefox (or even IE killer). At least, not yet. I did some mini view on my blog.
http://9jasite.com/2008/09/02/google-chrome-my-first-impression/

Despite the tab isolation, Flash crashed across all tabs.
http://9jasite.com/2008/09/03/my-first-google-chrome-crash-shockwave/

A simple link crashed the whole browser.

ComputersRe: Google Browser Challenges Microsoft: Google Chrome by africanboy(m): 8:54am On Sep 03, 2008
not just the nigerian market, imagine reading the homepage of smashingmagazine or browsing your friend's delicious bookmarks, or persuing digg homepage, you right click and open up to 18 tabs (after all, the browser is memory efficient - so no worries). something happens and your connection disconnects. all pages show up as "page unavailable". then you have to refresh.

also, you can close a series of tabs and get them restored when you come back to the browser
ComputersRe: Google Browser Challenges Microsoft: Google Chrome by africanboy(m): 7:24am On Sep 03, 2008
I got the browser a couple of minutes after it was launched and noticed one thing. Google built it with the pages in mind not necessarily the users viewing the pages.

http://9jasite.com/2008/09/02/google-chrome-my-first-impression/

Reload All Tabs is missing - important for a situation when your connection goes awry.
Lots of options missing considered crucial to browsers (the people, not the software)

ComputersRe: How Can I Protect A File Folder With Password? by africanboy(m): 7:06pm On Jul 24, 2008
Seriously, I dont see why someone should have protected files on the office computer. Any good hacker can bypass windows xp password system, but getting past the encryption of truecrypt or a dedicated encryption is more time consuming.

The guy may be a sales rep protecting his "trade secret", or he suspects that someone wants to compromise the company wink
ComputersRe: Help On Vista Accepting Software Games by africanboy(m): 4:30pm On Jul 24, 2008
@ex inferis, some games just wont run on vista, even in compatibility mode e.g Track Mania Nations Forever (because of the starforce protection system included, even though the game is a free game)

@heaslhsob, if you must run an xp game but can afford to dual boot or get a new system, install virtual pc, install xp in the virtual pc. set the virtual pc to use maximum resources when you need to play. another alternative to virtual pc is vmware workstation. just remember to give the applications maxiumum resources when you want to play and it can seem like your actual system smiley
ComputersRe: How Can I Protect A File Folder With Password? by africanboy(m): 4:13pm On Jul 24, 2008
search for a program called Folder-Lock - locks a folder with and without a password

also, try TrueCrypt - allows you create passworded volumes, using on the fly encryption <- preferred option
my suggestion - use true crypt to protect your files and place on a reliable flash drive, using true crypt in traveller mode.
Jokes EtcRe: Things We've Learnt From Nollywood by africanboy(m): 12:39pm On May 25, 2008
its not fair to nollywood, describing all the features without giving any quotes

- in any nollywood "home video", if a man is sick and talking of dying, the lady (whose parents oppose the relationship or vice versa) will always make the statement "don't talk like that"
- jim iyke will always attempt to kiss/hug/handle/harass the main female character
- almost every "babalawo" based movie ends with victory in Jesus Christ.
- how come they ALWAYS make love with their clothes on, under the sheets, even in the village with our HOT weather.
- when someone is recounting an experience, he/she must always pause about 5 seconds and stare into the camera while the "remembered" scene loads
- how come when a character remembers a previous experience, it is never from their point of view.

@lojik, i'll love to have a go @ your Cd and try to see if it can't be copied. how much and where can i get a copy to purchase? i do not claim to be a hacker or anything, just to try out the system. even starforce copy protection was broken recently.

@sbucareer, how you doing? been a while. i am now into some little bit of java development. not java actually, but i have to use java related code. I am developing some applications to integrate into Oracle e-business suite.

Truth be told, as of today, I can't really vouch for the state of the school. But when we where there, it was one fo the best, and it seemed to tend to move along that trend.

You could pay the school a visit and see for yourself.

Also, I should find time and re-visit my former school

hi,

would love to do that. though not touched a dolphin installation in almost a year. i helped a friend set up http://www.midnitecaller.com using dolphin. if you can wait till weekend, i'll re-install the copy of dolphin that i have and give you thorough steps.

would have loved to do it earlier, but i have company projects to complete. hope you understand
WebmastersRe: Need Help With Google Ads On Dolphin (boonex) by africanboy(m): 12:06pm On Mar 25, 2008
dolphin allows to place some content in certain parts, like above the header, below the footer, by the sides of the site. available in the control panel.

also, for the header, you can modify the header.php in the includes folder

for the panel, you have to incluide a new panel in the site layout section, admin, and insert your google adsense code. the preferred option as you can blend it to seem like a part of the site.

Jobs/VacanciesRe: I'm Totally Fed Up With Job Hunting by africanboy(m): 2:21pm On Mar 24, 2008
i have heard meny people complain of a lack of jobs in this country, yet they either do not have the skills for the jobs available or refuse the available jobs because of their egos. i am aware of a drop out who refused a 35k job and insisted on a company car. my question to her was "can you justify the costs of the company providing you with a company car. what do you have to offer?"

so again, i ask the poster that question, do you have the skills required by these companies? what was your performance during the interviews and tests? have you considered being self employed?

Africanboy, the fella just said Frontpage ooo i believe you say VWD is good, ya, i love it but i will say maybe you haven't gone so deep much on Dreamweaver, even if you start with Version 1.
i am very adept at using dreamweaver, i use it everyday. my livelihood depends on it.

if the guy is still using frontpage, i am surprised. considering that the last released version was with office 2003. 5 years ago.
