I'm saying that the so-called food production and the places with the arable land to support population still are purported to have fewer people so none of the math of your argument makes sense is the point. Benue, Taraba and Niger have the most arable population in the North yet are not the most populated

Even in Chad and Niger the bulk of the population is centered around the places with milder climate. Why is Nigeria the only place in the world where somehow someway there significantly are more people in the drier parts than the cooler parts.

I am asking you because you were the one who brought those countries into it, not me. Although land area is a factor in population size (not the sole defining factor) it has to be with context. You can't be using Niger and Chad as justification to doubt the population of Northern Nigeria just because they are neighbours when Libya's neighbour Egypt has 10 times Libya's population and 60% of its area.

You can't just use those countries to assess because until recently Northern Nigeria had very good vegetation to support population growth while those countries have been majorly desert for longer periods. and the progressive increase in the Sahara over the past decades/centuries also means you get net migration from those countries into Northern Nigeria over the years.

I think we will just have to agree to disagree. At least hopefully people will stop rolling out that Chad and Niger example without context.

Like i said, you didn't understand my point. I didn't use landmass to directly support the population claim. I only used it to explain how the difference in density might lead to a misleading view. Those are 2 different points.

Northern Nigeria is big and very populated.

It is very funny to use Niger's population and the similarity in culture to question the validity of Northern Nigeria's population. Anyone who understands geography and how population growth happens won't use that example.

Egypt has 110m people but next-door neighbour Libya with a similar Arabicized North African culture has 7m people. Mind you Libya is nearly twice the size of Egypt in land area. E get reason.

You are not getting my point.
My point is that if you have a population that is wildly dispersed over a large area it might look to be a smaller population than a similar population spread over an area which is much smaller.
I didn’t mean that large area automatically means large population .

Furthermore the countries you mentioned have large chunks of their land practically unable to sustain food production. My point though was about how low population density and visible crowds can be misleading when there is such a discrepancy in land area.

There are factors that suggest the north may not be as much as hey claim like the hot/cold weather condition A40 mentioned , the high rate of child mortality in the north , access to affordable healthcare ( there are some places in the north that or u to even see health center u will trek kilometers, imagine how easily people in those areas can die from minor health challenges ), etc.

If they allow a fair population census to be carried out, we will be really sure if indeed the north has more population than the entire south once and for all. But I’m afraid that may never happen .

You also have to consider that they give birth to far more children in the north.

Also the north is more than double the south in land area. For the north to look as crowded as the south it has to have to 2-3 times the population of the south. Population density is not population.
