Alvaro has learned how to play the full back position properly without necessarily needing pace. I think he'll be fine though.

He's like that former Chelsea player, Alonso. He's not fast but plays the position well.

Yeah he is like an Alonso/Blind hybrid. I am not ruling him out especially he has so much technical quality on the ball and his tactical IQ is top notch, but that lack of pace is a challenge he will always battle, hopefully successfully.

My only concern about Alvaro Fernandez is his relative lack of pace. I was surprised that he didn’t struggle too much with Nico Williams’ speed. Alvaro beats Malacia in most facets of the game apart from that question mark.

It might be wider to send him on loan for regular minutes because that is the best way to develop. He won’t get better by sitting on the bench for Shaw. Keep Malacia as the bench player and when Alvaro comes back in a season who knows he might even give Shaw a battle.

Yeah i was replying to the statement that you co-signed talking about his Atletico Madrid youth links. The boy is probably a closet Real Madrid fan cos his level of adoration of CR7 is next level and he barely witnessed peak Man Utd CR7. His Atletico links will not keep him from Madrid. Even Raul Gonzalez was an Atletico academy product before moving to Real.

Alvaro Fernandez might have played himself into contention for the LB position. The earlier we bin Williams thw better it will be for all parties involved.

Williams has no future in the club. He is 4th choice LB and 3rd choice RB. ALvaro will benefit more from going on loan to an EPL club for a season and get regular minutes and then come back next season. His ceiling is probably higher than Malacia's as long as he can cope with the pace of EPL wingers.

I think they should sell him. I don't think ETH rates him enough but we can insert a buy back clause. He was one of the better players in the games he played this pre-season and i watched extended clips from a training session between 1st team and 2nd team and he was one of the best players in that one as well.

It will work against smaller teams and only if Bruno works as a real 8. If he drifts forward into the no10 position better teams will punish us badly on the counter.

The options we're talking about is in the midfield.

Amad got injured. Mainoo that was getting good minutes got injured. How many academy/reserve players do you want integrated in one season. Mainoo is already obviously ahead of McFred (both of whom might still leave during this transfer window). Mejbri might get minutes as well if he doesn't leave on loan or on a permanent deal. In a situation whereby the first team midfielders are Casemiro, Bruno, Mount, Amrabat integrating one academy midfielder in a season is good enough. If we had mediocre players like McFred in our rotation then it is a different matter entirely.

I like it. This is the kind of squad we need in order to compete with City.

Our starting front 3 will probably be Rashford, Hojlund and Antony. Amad, Greenwood (if he’s allowed back) and Garnacho can be their deputies.

If you add Sancho to the mix, that gives us 3 options at LW, 4 options at CF and another 4 options at RW. We won’t suffer very much from injuries or fixture congestions.

We just need to add one more midfield option and ETH must know how to manage his squad (not first 11) and keep them together.

Yes we have enough options in attack. We just need them to play smart and avoid bone-headed shots from impossible angles. Garnacho’s strength and decision making seem to have improved over the summer.

The midfield has a big question mark in terms of balance. A Casemiro, Mount, Bruno midfield is too porous. I would prefer a Casemiro, Amrabat, Bruno midfield with Mount on the bench. Also, neither of them should ever play on the wings. ETH should not allow himself to be unfortunate.

You make a good point. I think we will dominate possession more than we used to under previous managers. We will improve in possession enough to be more competitive but going by the players we have and the players we bought it just won't be in the tiki-taka model. Our vertical transitions will be quicker in order to utilize the pace we have upfront.
