There are 2 basic truths in that Chelsea midfield.
1) Kante is best utilized as a runner, covering every blade of grass and checkmating the opposition higher up the field

2) Fabregas has to play to give the creativity necessary to avoid low scoring wars of attrition.

SO THE QUESTION IS WHO IS BEST PLACED TO PLAY THE MARKER ROLE? sitting just in front of the defense and shielding the back 4?

I rate Goss but I don't think he's ready. He's a bit fragile and slow in the midfield. In fact, he often fluctuate in the game, he's more of a playmaker although people often liken him to Carrick because he sits deep and he's slow but one main thing is he's poor in the defensive aspect of his game.

Poole on the other hand is strong in the air or in any ground duel and has good defensive nous. His vision isn't as fantastic as Goss but he's got a good vision as a holding midfielder.

Harrop on the other hand is also a playmaker like Goss but much more mobile with lovely tricks in his arsenal like Modric. Willock is an offensive box-box CM.

Goss is 21 in October if he is not ready now he wil never be ready. He should be given a senior chance for us to judge, if he does not make it he can be let go. He is not quick i agree but his game is mature. Poole is 18 and should be given time to make his mistakes in the reserve team away from pressure. Same with TFM and Tuanzebe.

Another is Goss factor, who is often used as a deeplying playmaker in the mould of Pirlo, hence having a holding CDM who operate in a similar way although with different skillset won't look good but last season, he was out injured. His return to the team this season would likely push Poole to the defence as well..

Anyway, the youth players are mostly played in different position by Warren.

If EVERYBODY in the reserve team is fit Poole will struggle to get a starting shirt so how can he be ready to start for the 1st team?
It is normal for fans to get excited about young talent but one has to be realistic that sometimes they need time to grow in the reserve system first. Goss is older and more mature and more prepared for 1st team football.

Once Shuan Williams returns to the team or if TFM had to go back to the reserves, Poole would likely be moved back to the midfield.

Warren tends to use the players in various position though but personally, I think Poole best position is the midfield. I even stated that in my earlier post 'cos his best performance has always been in the midfield for the reserves.

Roshaun Williams u mean. I agree with this. The question is whether Poole is ready for 1st team football, and from what i remember watching him he is not. MAYBE in 2 years, one should not get carried away by reserve team performances. I have followed our reserve team for years and i have seen guys shine at youth team level but struggle at senior level for different reasons. Poole is not there yet in terms of PHYSICALITY. He needs a full season with the reserves, I would send Sean Goss to the senior team this season.

Poole has been playing alongside Tuanzebe in central defence and Tuanzebe is the better player in that position.
In central midfield it seems Warren Joyce prefers Redmond and Willock who seem to be the box 2 box type and Goss who is a left footed Michael Carrick.
I will start watching out for this Poole to see what the hype is all about but IMO the best reserve player we have now is Tuanzebe.

I was going to post this from skysports. I also noticed Pogba likes sending long balls to Valencia. Scholes and Carrick used him as a way of switching direction of play, now it didn't take 10 mins for Pogba to figure this quality out. I have always said Valencia's ability to take down a long flying pass with one touch is magnificent and always a big bonus. His only weakness is his lack of aerial duel abilities.

I must also add that he continued from when he stopped last season after he returned from injury. Our results immediately improved as we gained attacking strength on the right while helping to balance our overall play. He did very well in the games in Wembley and also has so much praised for his work towards our winning goal when at 10 men, he took the ball alone down the field to the opposition box. All hail him!

I am very happy with Valencia as RB, he is the best in the club and i am not sure we will easily get anyone better. However he should steer clear of the RW position where he is limited because of his predictability and lack of guile. He has found his natural position.

To those of u who claim Smalling isn't good with the ball at his feet, hope u know Bailly is even worse??

On several occasions, when he(Bailly) came out of defence with the ball, he didn't even know what to do with it. Most times, he had to be passing the ball to Blind. And at one point, he even passed back to DDG under pressure and that one had to clear ball to throwing.

Bailly is way way better than Smalling with the ball, it is not even close. There is a difference between being calm on the ball and being over confident (Bailly) and truly not knowing what to do with the ball and making panicky clearances (Smalling). Smalling is a good defender, my problem with him is that he has always been a poor footballer.

Pogba starts. Seems Southampton is playing a midfield diamond, we will have to work hard to dominate the midfield.

I was the first to start criticizing Valencia on this thread years back when i noted he was exceptionally limited as a Right Winger. He does not have the skill set to be a winger for this team.
However as a Right back he has been quite good IMO and would continue to get better as the team understanding improves. What he needs now is a great Right Winger to play consistently ahead so that they can develop some chemistry on that flank. Using the word "great" removes Lingaard from the equation, at this moment he is a squad player at best. And using the words "right winger" remove Mata from the equation, we need Miki to step up and hold down that position or Jose can try Rashford on that flank.

We will be here to watch in HD.......and if una lose we will be here to party in living color.
