I think we will be ok in defense this season.

That's one area Martial still has to improve on. I think that aggressive attitude might spread to him as the season progresses.

As for Lingard, I think we give him less credit than we should. He has passion for the game and he works hard when surrounded with workaholics. He can be a fantastic player in the right environment with good coaching and leadership.

Yes. I have always been a supporter of Lingard in the squad. He might not be 1st 11 material, but he is a useful squad player. Martial had the first setback in his life in the Euros and i also hear his domestic life is in shambles....He needs to focus and work harder at integrating himself into games.

Bailly, Blind, Fellaini, Shaw and Lingard were ok.
Rooney,Zlatan and Martial have been the worst.

Martial and Depay need to learn from him in terms of work rate and aggression. He does not have great talent but he puts in 100%, Martial has suspect attitude. That and maybe injury are his major obstacles to greatness.

I have a feeling Lingard will bear the brunt of the job there though.

With slow Rooney and Zlatan spearheading the attack we need our wingers to have work rate and aggressively stretch the defense.
Lingaard has the attitude to do this but not the right quality, Martial has the quality but is not aggressive enough. If Martial is to take the next step he needs to up his tempo and play in a more aggressive manner consistently.
