The FIFA MOTM is a popularity contest among online voters. Seasoned analysts know to disregard that online poll for the reality on the pitch

SHow us one that Kompany won
Okay why should we believe Guardian and Ikebe Super that named Boateng MOTM rather than FIFA,Whoscored and Better Lover that named others?

What makes the ONE GUY in Guardian and the pervs of Ikebe Super better than the statisticians of Whoscored or the many voters of FIFA? or the other writers of other sports publications?

Compared to Kompany Cahill or any EPL defender, Boateng should be wearing a crown on the field.

Playing as a defender in an offensive juggernaut is actually way difficult that playing as a defender in a defensive team where at least 5 other defenders cover for you.

If Boateng can keep a whole Messi, AGuero, Higuain quiet at a world cup final then it gets no better than that
The goal scoring exploits of their teammates and the hoarding of possession hides their deficiencies.

When i recall how shambolic Dortmund's defending has been FOR YEARS and how many 4-2 and 5-3 matches they won rather than 1-0 i realize that Hummels is over rated. Someone with his skill level as a defender should be a better organizer but even at his peak he was the centre piece of a pretty shambolic defence.

I won't even go into your Boateng issue, the dude is as ordinary as white bread

Guess which one has a CL medal and a world cup medal winning man of the match at a world cup final
Bernard Diomede has a world cup winner's medal, David Ginola does not........so Diomede was better

Alain Boghossian has a world cup winner's medal, Makelele does not..........Boghossian was better.

Reducing player comparisons to how much they won is disingenuous. You only need to look up how many titles Wes Brown,John Oshea and Mikael Silvestre won

When I said Kompany was a useless defender 3 seasons ago everyone here dey shout
LOL was it 3 years ago? Pisure or i don't believe it.
Though i would have to agree with you that Kompany's form has been patchy for a while, possibly 3rd season running.

Where we defer is when you start bringing up the names of Boateng and co as great defenders. People like him him and Hummels that have benefited from playing in offensive juggernauts should not be in the discussion.

Its my opinion that defending is an endangered art and there is no single truly world class defender playing now anywhere in the world.

I f Baresi, Scirea or Sammer were playing now they would be so much better than the rest they would be allowed to wear crowns on the pitch.

Di Maria should chop bench for the next couple of matches. I am tired of his headless chicken style for now, and the truth is he contributes to our over narrow style......he does not offer real width, always running through the middle without control and more often than not running into brick walls.

Adnan and Young ( lol i can't believe i am saying this) on the wings for the next couple of matches. Valencia and Shaw supporting them as full backs.

2 out of Smalling/Rojo/Jones at CB.

Blind and Hererra in central midfield

Rooney with Falcao in attack with Wilson or Mata 1st choice off the bench (not Fellaini).

I think a bit of bench time will do Di Maria some good. He lacks discipline in his decision making and actions, playing like there is nothing at stake, making fancy and dangerous passes in his own half and generally being careless with the ball.

Some fouls are awarded against a player based on his movement(the reckless challenge of the GK for eg) even though there was no contact since it shows his intention. Sliding with both feet means you lose control of your movt. and therefore very dangerous to the opponent.

Rooney jumping is the sensible thing to do to avoid being injured.

The GK should take the blame and no one else.
1st of all the goal keeper led with his right foot, the left came forward only after Rooney had passed.

That slide was no different from the dozens of slide tackles goal keepers make in such situations, had he made full contact with the ball and kicked it to the side lines we won't even be having this debate.
However he made ZERO contact with the ball and made ZERO contact with the player.

As Coogar said when Vidic missed both player and ball last season and the ref blew for a penalty Utd fans were complaining, now the situation is reversed people are singing another tune. Ha...........diariz God o!

If that was a PK, then why were we whining over the one given Leicester earlier in the season?
In the immortal words of Olu Jacobs "i wonder, i just wonder".
Well people see things differently but in my not so humble opinion i don't think that was a penalty. If a player fell over in our box without being touched (because in summary Rooney fell without being touched) most fans here will scream daylight robbery if we had a penalty awarded against us.

Then how was it a foul and why should it be a penalty?

Since when did "the player was reckless in the the tackle" become the most important factor in decisions like this?

It's funny that an incident as obvious and clear as yesterday's is still being debated here.
Bros i just didn't want to talk.
If the roles were reversed and it was DDG making that tackle and he completely missed both ball and man i wonder if these guys here would be saying the same thing.
Imagine a scenario in which Hazard went down without DDG touching him at all i can bet most guys here will be pointing to the fact that there was NO CONTACT and would be spinning conspiracy theories about EPL bias.

LVG should be using Rooney and Wilson to pair either RVP or Falcao and if the two top 9s are not available he should pair Rooney and Wilson instead of pairing Di Maria upfront. Fellaini should feature upfront for tactical change only.
I agree with this
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by afrodoc2: 11:48pm On Feb 13, 2015
The minimum requirement for a lone striker is that he keeps the ball and holds up play for his team mates. Falcao fall over the ball whenever he has to keep the ball fro more than 2 seconds, he falls over the ball whenever he has to turn with the ball, he gets muscled off the ball whenever he has to hustle for it. Surely that can't be your choice for lone striker, i will pick RVP ahead of him for the job.

Are we a physiotherapy dept or rehab clinic sef? What is it with all these Knee patients we have been connected with? Hargreaves,Falcao and now persistent rumors about Vidal and Strootman.

he will thrive as a lone striker.
one thing is falcao makes the runs. he offers plenty of movement but we never ever spot his runs.

valencia can't cross to save a life. januzaj needs 26 toüches to move the ball more than 2 metres. rooney only ever passes the ball sideways or backwards.
Its not by just runs, even Eddy Dombraye made runs. Falcao made his name with his clinical and confident finishing, sharpness in front of goal and assured link up with his team mates. All these have deserted him and those runs you alluded to are now much slower than in his Atletico days. I am not saying he should not get his chance as a lone striker but he needs to line up behind those he met on the queue.

The first thing to sort out is formation, is it 2 strikers or 1 striker. Then the line up can be settled.
1) 1 striker i would choose RVP then Wilson then Falcao

2) 2 strikers, several combos but never RVP with Falcao....they are both as dynamic as Olumo rock

on the contrary, i would get rooney out of the team. play falcao or RVP as a lone striker & have mata/herrera in the hole and the performance would super-improve.
There is nothing so far this season to suggest Falcao would thrive in any formation. He has lost pace, his touch has deserted him and his ACL is expired. I would play Wilson ahead of Falcao right now.

his captainship is the reason he makes the team according to van gaal. that was why i keep saying he's jack of all trade, master of none.

Play Rooney and RVP and replace Rooney with Herrera in midfield and results and performance will improve

I think he's also fine-tuning that part of his game. here's hoping he stays fit with Rojo cuz Jones has returned to his safe haven, where he earns cool cash doing nothing & sipping coffee.

I'll be damned if LvG continues this way next season. it is safe to say the football world are yet to understand his "philosophy", much less his playing staff!
LVG is not helping matters with his overcomplicated tinkering but this squad looks like it was assembled by a volleyball executive.
At the end of this season we should just quietly off load Evans,Carrick and Falcao with Rooney and RVP to go in 2016. Somewhere in between Young and Valencia should go too, one more chance for Nani next season.

Regarding Jones or Smalling, Jones is the better natural talent but lacks control and judgement.....i have never seen a centre back suffer so many self inflicted injuries. Smalling on the other hand needs to keep working hard especially on his ball playing and also on reading the game.

Jones can be a great centre back but with his headless chicken mentality the odds on that happening are getting longer by the day, Smalling on the other hand will never be more than just a decent centre back. I would keep both of them though and add a truly world class defender to partner one of them while the other sits on the bench. I would sell Evans to Makwanda United
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by afrodoc2: 10:18pm On Feb 13, 2015
SailorXY:
how do you rate Smalling overall this season on a scale of 10? the poor game (brain-fart actually) he had against City aside. he came back from that disappointment even stronger. check his average rating for the season & you'll know van Gaal really doesn't understand his players, if he is dropping Smalling for Evans & Jones.
Evans had the most potential and spent his formative years learning from the best and he keeps producing Poo......he is a waste of space and should be discarded.

Jones is either not getting the right coaching or is possibly uncoachable, his only advantage is that he is quicker than Smalling, more comfortable with the ball and has the advantage of years on his side.

Smalling is the best of the bunch this season( but that is not saying much), most dominant in the air e.t.c LVG's problem with him is that LVG prefers ball playing CBs and watching Smalling on the ball is as painful as tooth extraction (without anesthesia)
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by afrodoc2: 9:58pm On Feb 13, 2015
We need Evans, Carrick, Rooney,RVP and Falcao off the wage bill as soon as possible. Only then can we really compete with the best in Europe.
Those guys are blocking promotion from the youth team and player acquisition from the market, we need them off in order to really complete the rebuilding process
