CapitalCee: Afrodoc2.
Please do we have anyone currently in our academy that is anywhere near these Lewis-Skelly and Nwaneri qualities? The movement of those boys are mad.
These our current overpaid senior bunches need to be offloaded. We need to promote the best of our youth players anyone who is not good enough should be sold.
We promoted Kambwala last season, he played few games we sold him for €10m, now he is starting for Villareal. For me, i think, if we keep our youth players indefinitely in the academy they will decline.
Morehouse, Amass, Thwaites,Chido-Obi, Ibragimov, Kukonki, Montato, promote all of them. If any of them are not good enough sell for pure profit. Even the new Malian youngster. The 3 goal scorers for Spurs in their last Europa game are all academy players, Mickey moore, Ajayi and Scarlet. Infact Mickey Moore started today, against Brentford. and he is 17. But our own we go de hype 19 year old for academy yet they won't be promoted in areas we needed bodies. Sporting Lisbon for example lost form after Amorim left and couple of injuries, they promoted a number of 17/18 year olds, those boys are balling now and they are winning again, 8 points clear of 2nd. Players like Dalot are not supposed to be playing in the EPL anymore. Amass for example will be better than Dalot. Firstly, Amass is defensively suspect and currently lacks the physicality to play that WB role. He might be good in a possession-based side as a LB but this WB role in this team requires a level of physicality that he currently does not have. Mantato is the one who suits this system better, but he is currently injured. I don't think Thwaites and Ibragimov are ready for the first team. Secondly, how much pure profit do you want to sell untested 17yr olds for? Chido, Thwaites, Ibragimov, Kukonki are all still probably 2 years away from being profitable in that regards. Other teams need to see them play against men. That is where loans and minutes with the first team come in. We don't know yet which of them is good enough although i can predict right now that Chido will get minutes with the first team before this season is over. Nwaneri is very highly rated. Lacey is the closest to him but Nwaneri is physically superior which is a huge edge in senior football. Ibragimov is also not far behind. Then maybe Mantato but that one is better as a WB. Then Chido who plays CF. I don't think we have any DM/FB as good as Skelly. The guy used to remind me of a more powerful but less skilled Mainoo when i saw him in midfield with the youth sides. Remember that the advantage Nwaneri and Skelly have though is that they are coming into a team that is settled, playing well and has an identity. If you drop them in this United side their flaws will be exposed. |

Did you watch the derby. City walloped us. We were missing a few first team players Yeah I did. We had too many difference makers missing while City were closer to the full team. Lacey and Mantato injured meant we were dead with Musa on the RW. He is Nigerian but he is probably the worst player in the Under-18s. Ibragimov and Jack Fletcher injured meant we were missing our most creative midfielders. Devaney injured meant we were missing our defensive midfield lynchpin. We will struggle to retain the league title this season because I think some of our best Under-18 players will be moved to Under-21 for the 2nd half of the season. This means we might drop more points, unless players like Lacey, Biancheri, Mantato, Fletcher, Ibragimov come back and stay fit for the rest of the season. |

LordAdam16: Virtually all revolutions have a common theme. An opportunist leverages existing poor conditions to rally popular support and attempt to dislodge the ruling class. If successful, the opportunist and their lieutenants seek to entrench themselves as the new upper class "to preserve revolutionary ideals".
Rarely do revolutionaries fix the societal ills that fueled their rebellious zest. A revolution is more often than not a bloody hustle for power and riches.
-Lord This is not a lie. For many revolutions, it is either the original instigators have a secondary ulterior motive OR the revolution is hijacked by opportunists who have ulterior motives, and in many cases, conditions do not change much for the lowest classes. |

BlueRayDiick: @afrodoc Just yesterday I was lost in self-thought and It some point I was thinking about the evil colonialism did to our traditional institutions.
I know our Colonial Masters (the British) practise constitutional monarchy in their own country such that the Monarch(Queen or King as the case may be) is the head of state and the prime minister is the head of government. The Prime being the head of government will get to that position by being a politician who plays all kinds of politics to retain his seat while the monarch is hereditary.
To the best of my knowledge, as much as the Prime minister is the head of government he doesn't have such powers to dethrone the monarch even if they disagree over matters of state/governance. The prime minister cannot just wake one day and sack the king/queen and appoint someone else as replacement.
Ironically, over here in Nigeria even the most powerful 1st class monarchs are at the mercy of politicians. Ordinary commissioner for Chieftaincy and traditional matters can set better leg for ruling 1st Class king like Olubadan. We all saw what Ajimobi did to the Ibadan traditional institution while he was governor, we also saw what Obaseki did to Oba of Benin; na small remain make he dethrone am sef.
Why is it that everything is upside down here in Africa and Nigeria in particular? Why is it that when we copy things we don't copy it well and everything always come out mushy? The devil is in the detail. The first major difference is when, why, and how each party got their power/authority. The British monarch was close to all powerful for a long time until the powers were slowly stripped away by parliament and the ministers were initially essentially only the top servants of the monarch, until the 1700s when the prime minister used a period of non-English speaking monarchs to strip away yet more power. Over time this was solidified in law. The monarch was the top dog initially and only over time did the other parties rise in power from the (forced) gifts from the monarch. The Nigerian situation is a bit different. The British had already stripped our monarchs of power and authority and when they left these powers were vested in our new order elected officials. The elected officials (at other times military rulers) are the ones who out of the goodness of their hearts continue to keep and pay for these monarchs. |

BlueRayDiick: Wow! I didn't know this before , now I do.
But I'm curious: Why then did Usman Dan Fodio now sack the Muslims he met in those places and imposed his own guys to Lord over them? If you know about the Protestant Reformation in Europe in the 1500s, Dan Fodio's revolution was a bit similar. He did not believe that they were practicing Islam the right way and wanted stricter adherence to Islamic Fiqh as well as the complete eradication of idolatry. The Hausa at that time used to practice Islam the way many Yorubas still practice it. You have your Islam as your starting striker but if things get dicey you fit sub Obatala in to nick a last-minute winner. He also criticized the rulers for their greed and over taxation of the lower classes, which led to him gaining popular support for his revolution. The cynic in me thinks he also just wanted to replace the Hausa rulers with his Fulani brethren but then maybe i just get bad mind. |

BlueRayDiick: When I mean Hausa Land I am talking about the modern day North West and not North East which was Borno Empire that had long been practicing Islam before Usman Dan Fodio's war in the North West that sacked original Hausa rulers.
If I am still wrong, then I am open to more learning. Islam got to the North West nearly a thousand years ago. By the 1300s the rulers of Kano were Muslims themselves which is why they started being referred to as Sultans and started bearing Islamic names. An example is the famous Muhammad Rumfa who in the 1400s built the Great Mosque in Kano and was instrumental in converting the majority of the population. Same thing happened in Katsina around the 1400s and to a lesser extent Zaria. |

BlueRayDiick: HISTORICAL CONTEXT TO ISLAM IN YORUBA LAND
Let me start by saying that prior to Nigeria's independence in 1960, there were 3 major religions that held sway in Yoruba land(The modern day southwest which includes Lagos State) namely; African Traditional Religion(ATR), Christianity and Islam. Long before Usman Danfodio fought the Jihad that led to introduction of Islam to Hausa land in the 19th Centuries, historical records show that Islam has long been in Yoruba land as far back as the 14th Century.
Islam got into Yoruba land through trade with Malians who were predominantly Muslims already at the height of the Malian empire. This is why in Yoruba land Islam is referred to as "esin imale" (which means religion of the Malians). There's an historical account that claims that Sango(one of the Alaafin of the old Oyo empire) learnt about Islam long before he became an Alaafin and was even one of the people that supported growth of Islam in Yoruba land despite be an adherent of the ATR and his mystical powers. It was said that he donated towards the construction of the first mosque in old Oyo Empire.
RELIGIOUS TOLERANCE IN YORUBA LAND
Having set the historical context as to how Islam came to being in Yoruba land, it is important to note that Muslims, Christians and ATR worshippers over time have found a way to live together amongst themselves over time . It is normal for humans to have disputes amongst themselves, it is normal for humans to cross some lines when dealing with fellow humans who may seem not to be following the same path or see things from the same viewpoint, but nonetheless religion has not been the reason for any of the wars recorded in the Yoruba history up till this moment. The Yorubas may fight over land, fight over who gets royalty ,fight over superiority of the king of a town over the king of another town, etc; but not about what religion Mr. A and what Mr B practices nor about what religion town A practices and what what town Z practices. This in fact shows how religious tolerance is not just a myth in Yoruba land but a reality.
MODERN DAY PRACTISE OF ISLAM IN YORUBA LAND AND EXTREMISM.
Growing up in Yoruba land whether you are a Christian, ATR, atheist , or non Muslim in general, almost everyone is surrounded by Muslims whom we've now grown to know to be liberal Muslims. i.e. people who just want to practice their Islam, get along with their neighbors , sort whatever issue they have with anybody without declaring any Fatwa and respect the tradition and customs of the land. This particular set of Muslims comprise a vast majority of Muslims in Yoruba land . They have no issue with their Christian neighbor looking after their kids in their absence, they have issue with an Isese worshipper doing their festival provided they don't forbid him from observing his 5 times daily prayers and they do not deliberately set out to provoke adherents of other religions and non religious people alike.
While the aforementioned people abound in numbers in Yoruba land, there seem to a growing number of extremists who have been springing up over the years. These set of Muslims do not believe in the principle of "Live and let live" , they would leave their space and delibrately set out to provoke non adherents of their own version of Islam. My dad told me about "ajagbemokeferi" , the spirited Muslim crusader who delibrately set out to provoke ATR worshippers and always set up his Islamic lectures on the date of ATR worshippers' festivals in the 1950's in Lagos . At the end , he was murdered by ATR wrshippers who felt they've had enough from him. The Liberal Muslims are not spared when these set of extremists do their thing. One of them recently claimed " An Imam in Yoruba land is higher than Ooni of Ife or any other traditional ruler in Yoruba Land" . While in school we came across quite a handful of them with their brand of Islam deliberately set out to provoke an angry reach from you a non Muslim. Some of the things they preach which attacks the fibre of the Omoluabi culture Yorubas are known for is for example, they believe "a child should not prostrate for his parents because ur parents are not God ", "A groom should not prostrate to the bride's family at his wedding ceremony as it is expected in Yoruba culture. Why? Because they are also not his God". These and many more they have been propagating which is even shocking to their fellow Muslims who are equally Yorubas. I personally know quite a handful of them whom their family have almost disowned because they just can't seem to place where exactly this their extremism is coming from.
THE CALL FOR SHARIA IN YORUBA LAND/SOUTH WEST
It must be said without mincing words that for a while now, THE SOUTHWEST/YORUBA LAND HAS BEEN SITTING ON A KEG OF GUN POWDER which may sooner or later blow up in our faces. The aforementioned extremists have been bidding their time and for some reason they seem to believe the success of the Muslim/Muslim ticket of the APC at the General Elections in 2023 is a signal for them to come to the fore and bare their fangs. They seem to believe that it is either now or never for them to come all out and turn Yoruba Land to what Hausa land has become, to turn Yoruba Land to what became of Ilorin where the ATR worshippers are getting their rights trampled upon by the extremist Muslims who have every machinery of the state at their disposal. It is no surprise that the Sultan of Sokoto and some northern voices on the social media very much interested in this call for Sharia in Yoruba land even when those of us from the South west are not meddling in their Sharia system in the North.
As for those saying Sharia is not binding on non-Muslims, everyone who has been to the northern states where they have Sharia system operational knows that cannot be farther from the truth. Thank God for NYSC, some of us saw Sharia in its full glory and it is not what anybody desires to be replicated in Yoruba land except for the few Muslim extremists in Yoruba Land.
Yoruba Land is a secular nation where everyone is allowed to practice their religion or irreligion (as the case may be ) , without having to create any special adjudication panel/court system. Whatever anybody may claim they need a sharia panel/court for, it is well provided for under respective state's customary laws and civil/criminal laws. The South west is not a "one-majority-religion" state and no religion should be allowed to dominate another. Anybody that wants Sharia should go to where Sharia is being practiced and enjoy the goodies that comes with it. Good write up and you made some interesting points. You summarised the reason for the lack of religious strife in Yorubaland quite well. A point of correction though. It was not Dan Fodio’s 19th century jihad that introduced Islam to Hausaland. |

No spraying of money, no hooting unnecessarily, no blocking of access roads; All of which students violated.
This is not an issue of Almighty wisdom, but just a simple law that we as Nigerians will never keep.
If it was a University in the US or UK, no Nigerian born of a woman would think of violating it; no matter him level for cultism or Yahoo.[/color] And no UK or US school born of man, woman, or inanimate object will cancel the exams for the whole student body because of the activities of a minority section. They should identify and punish those that flouted the regulations. The punishment for breaking school rules should be proportionate and directed at the right people. Many people hustled and sweated for that exam. Many of them from poor background and with no access to the cars whose horns were blasted or to the money that was sprayed. You now want to punish them because of the activities of miscreants many of whom do not need the degrees in the first place.
