Stop trying to be sleek. The keyword there is COLLEAGUE. An ex footballer who was purely trash has no right to HARSHLY criticize another player who was 10 times the player he was.
Who is trying to be sleek? You have come again with your ridiculous takes.

An ex-footballer that professional clubs were willing to buy for millions of pounds multiple times and pay millions of dollars to as salary can’t criticise or analyse football, but you that couldn’t make Green House football team during inter-house sports competition at Iganmode Grammar School can criticise players and stalk their supporters all over Nairaland? 🤣🤣🤣

Baggio is a Buddhist so of course he will want to follow the dictates of Amitabha and emulate the Bodhisattvas.

If only Balon d'Or winners can analyze or criticize footballers, we won't have enough analysts in for all the football programs in the world, and of course football forums like the ones here in Nairaland have to be cancelled as well. I suspect we don't have a Balon d'Or winner here.

I am just concerned because you pointed out some players you rate highly who simply don't fit the current system. Seeing how bad we are when it comes to handling negotiations for outgoing players, I am concerned we might lose for very good players for the cheap.
Yeah but if we lose them nothing spoil. We sell them for profit. The more highly rated Fletcher boy and Amass are the 2 that come easily to mind.

Most of the other highly rated players have a place in the system.

Now this is a problem. The club is supposed to have a direction. The academy should breed players for the first team, meaning that our recruitment, even at that level, should be in sync with the style of play we have adopted as a club. It makes no sense to bring up guys who are best suited for the 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 formation at the academy level when the first team is going 3-4-2-1. There's a disconnect and this might see us lose out on some good academy players who simply don't fit the first team style/formation.
The academy actually currently has more players that stylistically suit this system than the senior team.

Remember that the academy is firstly to develop them as footballers, with promotion into the senior team being just a bonus. So it makes sense to develop them in the most common formation in football. The ones that suit our current 3-4-3 will still be identified like we have now, and promoted to the first team. The ones that don’t will be sold for pure profit.

Finally, sticking to the standard formation means if next season we sack Amorin now we won’t have to start changing academy players as well as first team players.

Do you think Seko Kone can make it at senior level? Who do you consider better fit between him and Fitzgerald in holding midfield?
Remember we don’t play holding midfielders anymore? It’s really 2 box to box midfielders in this 3-4-3.

Fitzgerald is more of CM and Kone seems to be more of a DM.

Fitzgerald missed half of last season and his development stalled somewhat.

I have not seen much of Kone since the club rarely broadcasts Under-21 games but he played well in the last game.

Still too early to say but in terms of snuffing out opposition attacks the best DM in the academy by far is Devaney. He might be too defensive for this 3-4-3 with 2 box-to-box midfielders though.

Doc what's your take on this list?

https://x.com/utdrobbo/status/1886694241516093505?s=19[/quote]Harrison is very good. My only concern is the lack of height. He excels at pretty much everything else and is probably better on the ball than even Onana. Unless he has a late growth spurt i am still doubtful.

Kukonki has the edge amongst the CBs even though he is the youngest and not even the best currently. His ceiling is high, and his being left footed is a plus. Armer is a dark horse because of how good he is on the ball. Munro's limitations on the ball might count against him but he is duels king. I don't think the Under-21 defenders will make it here.

WB is obviously Mantato. It is like he was built in a lab for this formation. He is perfect for it.

DM is the one with the murkiest picture. Fitzgerald as stated has a chance but since his injury last season he has stagnated a bit. Tyler Fletcher and Devaney have been better this season. We also have Gore and Kone in the Under-21s (both are rather under-sized though).

I don't know where the writer saw AM and WF in this formation. You don't have both. With regards the two 10 positions it is obviously Lacey and Ibragimov. Jack Fletcher is a CAM and the position does not exist in this formation.

CF is obviously Obi.

Exactly.

Hopefully they spend big and spend wisely.

Meanwhile, Amorim has to give some evidence that he is indeed a good coach by at least working with and improving what he has for now.

Well time will tell. And for the record, saying publicly that you are not happy with your current front line or midfield or the team generally does not necessarily mean you are attacking your employer.
I am more focus on the Summer transfer window, reason i have been saying we can only do loan deals in January.
Amorim is a very good manager no doubt, but if he chooses to stick with those useless overpaid bunch for next season because he doesn't want to hurt his employers feeling, i will conclude that he is not serious about being successful here..
For the 500th time, he is not CHOOSING to stick with the players. Which coach do you know will go into a new club with players he admitted do not suit his style and then lose more players from that squad and be happy with it.

Speaking out publicly after you already had private discussions would be seen as an attack. If you have a subordinate who you denied a request for promotion in private and he raises it up during AGM or he goes to the papers what will you call it?

Amorim said this is the worst team ever. He has said several times that the squad is not built for his system. If you think he has not met the ownership to ask for reinforcement, then i wonder why you think he is a good manager.

If he speaks publicly, it will only make YOU sleep better at night. It will not help him in any way. Glazers and INEOS are not going to buy players because the manager spoke to the press about it.

The club is financially handicapped due to all the money recently wasted by ETH and co and Sir Jim is not Arab money that will flood us with cash. He is a typical British/American billionaire. If Amorim likes he should engage Hundeyin and Linda Ikeji, shishi no go drop for players until the club is ready to spend it.

But he speak out regularly about lazy players like Trashford and co, i will always insist the Manager speak out if the board is not meeting his demand. If he doesn't, i take it that he is happy with what he has. We are struggling to score goals, yet the board could not get a striker on loan after letting go of two forwards and Amorim isn't saying anything about it, he will get the sack if result doesn't improve, not the board he doesn't want to upset...
If he speaks out the board will not do anything and he would have made enemies of them by embarrassing them publicly, and he will get the sack even earlier.

Like someone said earlier since he knows speaking out in public won't change their minds, why would he make enemies of them for no reason? Do you have a job to offer him? Rangnick that called them out most recently did not even get to start the job he was called in for.

A man played a 19yr old CM as his striker because he had no faith in his 2 misfiring strikers. A few days before that he played the same CM as a no10 because he had lost 2 possible No10 options to transfer. That tells you all you need to know about whether he is happy with the team or not. The team he recently called the worst ever lest we forget.

I am ready to criticize Amorin for team selection, substitutions, poor play but asking him to start calling out employers that will not listen anyway is misdirected anger. All it will do is soothe your own anger and ego, but it will cost him support within the organization. He gains nothing tangible from doing it.

This “speaking out” opinion still exists in 2025?
The last person that spoke out publicly about the need for new players was Rangnick and he lost his new job before he even started the job. grin

If a manager speaks out about needing players, it is okay but if he doesn't i won't use it as a stick to beat him with. I am rather interested in his coaching and tactical ability and his ability to manage the dressing room. If he also floods the team with his ex-players like ETH did, then he has to share responsibility for that as well.

You guys always say this thing but speaking out in the public generally changes nothing.

When Mourinho spoke out it changed nothing. Even SAF had to lie that there was no value in the market.

Countless Spurs managers have been speaking out yet Levy dey ignore them.

The main thing speaking out does is to soothe the frustration of fans like you. Ultimately it does not change anything for the manager.

Smh, So that is how we're going to ruin another young player.
I hope not but the chances are high. We loaned out most of the other potential academy options that are older than him, and the senior squad is already down to the bare bones.

The club appears broke in a big way and PSR is adding more stress on the broken stress.

That is why I just come here to analyse the games and performances. Anybody still going emotional and angry after games is wasting his/her energy.

I dont blame him on the bad starting lineup. Look at what Rasmus and Joshua have been serving him. If I could, I would print out their contracts just to tear it.
Mainoo had his best game of the season as a No10 there is no justification for moving him from that position and experimenting again. He should have started that game with Mainoo and either Garnacho or Amad at the 10 and with a proper CF. This is more to give the team balance and not only about individual player quality.

From the 15th minute after Crystal Palace adjusted to our formation it was clear the set up was not working. He should have made the correction at half time. The proper correction was to take out Mazraoui who offers nothing as a WB and was not having a good game and bring on a striker. Then you can move Amad to WB with Mainoo and Garnacho supporting the striker as the 10s.

By the time he made the changes it was too late and then he made the wrong changes by bringing on Rasmus and Zirkzee at the same time.

Ugarte is also a problem when we dominate possession as he is not a good progressive passer or runner. His first touch is not clean, allowing him to get pressed easily and forcing him to give safe passes most of the time. He also can't pass between the lines with consistency. Against top teams where we are on the back foot and play more low-block and transitional football he is okay.
