PERHAPS some people may not find this mind-blowing given that Nigerians have become accustomed to hearing about outrageous looting of the nation’s treasury by public officials. But many would appreciate that even with the falling value of Nigeria’s currency, N450 million could save lives in the health sector where government hospitals in the country lack many equipment. The quantum of money in question, if deployed in fixing the collapsed portions of the Benin/Ore Highway, could as well reduce the alarming rate of auto crashes on that road. However, the systemic nature of corruption in the country ensured that the money, instead of being expended on common good, was used to purchase exotic vehicles and then converted to personal properties by some top public officials. The discovery came to light in the course of an investigation by Sunday Vanguard into the activities of the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission,ICPC. The manner in which the misappropriation took place offers insight into how undermining some public officials had been to the Nigerian story. Some top officials of Ministries, Departments and Agencies,MDAs, were discovered to be chiefly involved in the matter. Some top officials of Ministries, Departments and Agencies,MDAs, were discovered to be chiefly involved in the matter. Specifically, those affected were of the Ministries of Water Resources, Labour, Environment,Information and Health, Federal Road Maintenance Agency, FERMA, and Subsidy Reinvestment Programme, SURE-P. Findings revealed that funds set aside by the SURE-P for execution of projects were used to procure vehicles by the MDAs. Meanwhile, the vehicles were supposed to have been recorded as part of the properties of the MDAs in line with the procurement rules of the civil service. It was also learnt that since the funds did not emanate from the budgetary allocation of the concerned MDAs, not recording the purchase of the 103 vehicles facilitated the appropriation by the officials. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2016/11/how-icpc-recovered-103-exotic-vehicles-looted-by-govt-officials/

He said that the former aviation minister was“hale and hearty”, and thanked Nigerians for the prayers and words of encouragement “during the tỳing period”. “May God reward everyone who stood by us during the tough period,” he said. John, however, did not give further details, and also refused to comment over whether a ransome was paid to the abductors. NAN recalls that Bagudu was abducted by gunmen at the Kaduna residence of Ambassador Mamman Daura, where he had gone to condole the family over the death of the former Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji ibrahim Dasuki. Bruce gave the advice on his twitter handle @benmurraybruce where he attributed the current macro-economic challenges to the inability of the ruling party to look inwards and come up with innovative ideas to address the situation. ‘’The Buhari administration has failed because its focus is on taking Jonathan down rather than taking itself up. He maintained that “an opposition can blame, but when they become the ruling party they lose the prerogative to blame and take initiative to fix things” He said ‘’Nigerians now feel short-changed by change’’ emphasising that ‘’leaders have no right to blame’’. Gov. Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo has dismissed reports that his recent visits to the Presidential Villa are to facilitate his movement from PDP to APC. Mimiko told State House correspondents in Abuja on Monday, after a closed door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari, that he only briefed the president on the security situation in his state. Governor Mimiko receives President Buhari in Akure According to him, as the Chief Security Officer of Ondo, he is duty bound to brief the president on the security situation in the state. “Like I said, as the Chief Security Officer of my state, if there is any credible threat to security, I owe the responsibility to Nigerians to brief Mr President of what is going on in the state. “Mr President was in my state to campaign for his party. I extended to him the courtesies of receiving him at the airport and seeing him off as president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, not as APC. “I understand that people have speculated that this means I am going to APC. There is nothing of such. The Senator Ahmed Makarfi-led National Caretaker Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to postpone the scheduled November 26 gubernatorial election in Ondo state. The Spokesman of the PDP Caretaker Committee, Prince Dayo Adeyeye in a statement on Saturday explained that the call for poll shift became necessary due to a pending suit regarding the candidature of the party at the Supreme Court. Barrister Jimoh Ibrahim and Eyitayo Jegede are locked up in a legal tussle with both of them claiming to be the PDP candidate for the election having emerged from the party's primary elections conducted by the Makarfi and Sheriff-led factions at different times. The party also explained that the call is against the backdrop of the fact that INEC postponed the Edo State governorship election and recently postponed the Rivers Re-run elections without "any cogent or visible reason." It said the adjournment of the suit to determine the authentic candidate of the PDP for the Ondo election by the Court of Appeal pending the determination of the suit before the Supreme Court was part of the plan to use the Judicial process, security agencies and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) "to rig" the election in favour of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). "We call on all well-meaning Nigerians to urge the All Progressives Congress (APC) led federal government to desist from the use of organs of the Nigerian State as a tool with which to subvert the will of the Nigerian people. "At this point, we must urge all Nigerians to hold the federal government, INEC, APC and the Jimoh Ibrahim group for any consequences of the dangerous games that they have chosen to play with the Nigerian people. "We call on INEC to postpone the Election pending the determination of the Suit before the Supreme Court. We make this call against the backdrop of the fact that INEC is a party to the suit before the Court of Appeal and Supreme Court and is well aware of the steps taken by certain parties to the Suit to frustrate the course of justice. "We urge the Justices of the Supreme Court to stand fast in the face of this existential threat to the independence of the Judiciary and democracy itself. We urge the Justices of the Supreme Court to remember the maxim 'Justice delayed is justice denied' while determining the issues before it," the PDP said. Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Malam Muhammad Bello, has called for calm over recent attacks on some villages in the territory, assuring that security agencies were on top of the situation. Bello gave the assurance while addressing newsmen after an emergency security meeting which was attended by stakeholders of the affected communities in his office in Abuja on Friday. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that communities affected by the attacks suspected to have carried out by herdsmen are mainly in Kuje Area Council. In the attacks on Darka and Huni-Gade communities on Sunday and Thursday, respectively, a 28-year-old man, Zakariyya Nuhu, was killed, while 10 persons were kidnapped and one injured. The minister said that the FCT administration and the security agencies had been following the development in the communities and had put measures in place to tackle the problem headlong. He advised the residents not to give any ethnic coloration to the attacks because killing and kidnapping of the innocent residents were purely criminal and that the culprits would be treated as such. Bello said that the administration and the security agencies had outlined ways of handling the unpleasant situation and that all those involved would surely be arrested and prosecuted. He commiserated with the communities as well as the families of those affected in the unfortunate incidents. He called on the FCT residents to go about their normal businesses as the security agencies had been deployed to all parts of the territory, especially the affected places, to ensure the security of lives and property. The governor of Adamawa State, Muhammad Jibrilla, has denied media report suggesting that he has declared his support for the 2019 presidential bid of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. A statement by Martins Dickson, the Special Assistant to the governor on Press and Media Affairs, said the governor did not make any statement concerning 2019 elections during the flag-off of Girei-Pariya-Wuro Bokki road on Thursday. The statement pointed out that it was an unfair misrepresentation of Governor Jibrilla’s speech. “The governor only stated that Atiku is like a father to him and he has no political godfather as insinuated by some sections of the media. He then thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for bringing peace to the North-East and Nigeria as whole and called on the people of Adamawa to unite and make the state a better place,” the statement read in part. It called on the people to disregard the content of the publication, assuring them of more focused leadership committed to fulfilling campaign promises. Fayose at 56: Not returning evil with evil has given me continuous victory By Rotimi Ojomoyela Ado-Ekiti-Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose has again, hit hard at President Muhammadu Buhari over his seemingly inability to find solution to myriad of problems confronting the nation, saying the President and his party lack ideas and appeared confused on how best to alleviate the people’s suffering. In his words, “Unfortunately, Muhammadu Buhari cannot find solution to hunger, unemployment, depressed economy and insecurity in the country because he is bereft of the ideas. Nigerians should brace up to change the change because the right leader, the right president is yet to come. What we have now is aberration, ” the governor asserted”. Fayose said the ruling All Progressive Congress, (APC) party at the centre would very soon suffer an implosion and disintegrate because it was founded on deceit. “If you are in PDP, you are a pen robber, but if you gate-crashed into APC, you become a saint automatically. Within one and half year, the APC government grounded the economy” Fayose who turns 56 on Tuesday added that total reliance on God was his power and nothing else, and that not repaying evil for any evil done him has remained the secret of his continuous victory against all odds put on his way by enemies. Citing a Biblical injunction to buttress his claims: “. Phillipians Chapter 4 verse 13, says I can do all things in Christ who strengthens me. Jesus Christ is my strength. If I am talking, If I am heard, if I could not be cowed or suppressed, If I am providing good governance to Ekiti people who elected me as their governor, If I am providing good leadership to people, it is because I have Christ as my strength and truly in him, I can do all things.” Speaking through his Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Idowu Adelusi, the Governor who reflected on the rough journey of his life while addressing members of the Ekiti State House of Assembly during a closed door meeting at the Government House in Ado Ekiti yesterday, said though his road had been bumpy but because he was a man of destiny he had never lost any battle: Let this be known, I wasn’t born with silver spoon but with wood spoon in mouth, my struggle in the journey of life , founded on truth, hard work and firm believe in God, landed me where I am today. I remember God telling me never to avenge, but do well to all manners of men. In doing so, lies my victory and progress. Fayose said his return to power was beyond human comprehension, saying the stone which was rejected by the builder became strong pillar of the house. Governor Fayose who went down memory lane about the conspiracy of 2006 against him by the then members of the state House of Assembly which saw to his sudden, un-celebrated but undeserved exit from the seat of power by an impeachment later dismissed as illegitimate by the Supreme Court, admonishing the current lawmakers, saying: “The traitors of yesterday, where are they now.? God said in Psalm 68 verse 6, …but the rebellious dwell in dry land. God also said those who pay evil with evil, evil will never depart from their house. These messages are warnings to traitors, ” he warned. Speaking about his performance in two years in office, Fayose said he had pact with Ekiti people to transform the state, adding that he had ideas up his sleeve but has been hampered by time and finance. However, the Governor said: ” I will complete the flyover, King’s Market, Judiciary building, new governor’s office, Ikere – Ado road dualised and other projects going on at the local governments, ” and urged Ekiti people to continue to support him and ignore the lies of APC about him.
