Lemme break down my post a little>

short term - you serve at a location for a year. Once you leave, someone else comes to take your place and there's no guarantee they'll keep up the good effort so all your work might end up wasted.

Which nation - let's face it, there was once a time going on youth service would have been a pride. But for a nation that can't provide simple health care, security, safety and even agriculture/infrastructure, what is there to serve?

Anyway, my advice to those going in, make the best of it. Have fun, be creative. Think of something out of the box and make an impact. Then you can hold your head up high no matter what.

im on empress ki, season 5. I hope it ends well. El temur died,they thought evil end but its just the begining, bayan on it again,even worst. Betrayal/evil doesnt depends on people,it depends on time. Since humans are no programmed computer,anybody can change over time. The story is similar to some stories used for illustration in 48 laws of power.

An interesting analogy (the 48 laws of power - great book heard much about it). The thing about Empress Ki was that they spent a lot of time following Wang Yu's path of righting the issues affecting his home country and how he tried to best El Temur's unfair monopoly. All that went right over my head, I was just focussing on Sungyang and the Emperor As for Bayan, I was actually his fan even when he was messing up. Goes to show how great the acting was, because even the villains were fun to watch too lol

Wow! What a question LOL it's so hard to compare them, they were made in different eras. Empress Ki is far more modern in terms of filming and has a rich, fast-paced storyline.

While Dong Yi is more slow-paced. I enjoyed it somewhat, there was a lot of comedy from the comic-relief characters put there. But as a whole, both series have a strong woman determined to change the world around her. Like @Wislet said, both are great. I suggest you watch Empress Ki first, and as a step-down you can then start on Dong Yi

I'd pick Empress ki though. It's one of those dramas you'd put in the category of 'LEGENDS'. In many years to come, new dramas will still be striving to beat it.
Dong yi is great too, I highly recommend it, but it could be 'slow' and the acting is not as real as it is in Empress ki.
E.g you have a visitor, yet you keep quiet after greeting your visitor, instead of going into the house immediately, you keep looking at each other like someone waiting for the Director to say 'cut!'. The acting is draggy, annoying and tiring at times, though it has a wonderful storyline.
Empress ki it is. Virtually ALL the actors nailed their roles..... ALL. And that is something you don't always see in dramas. Great cast, great storyline and perfect delivery.
