Another great series I'm into right now - RYOMA DEN - and it's Japanese!

Will definitely check out more Japenese dramas after this one. There's just something different about them. Korean, Chinese and now Japanese...really getting to discover some great cultures and gorgeous scenery/stories.

This is progress!

I guess all those that were advocating that she deserves to be sued for millions can now rest. This is a lesson to both sides: Linda will go back to the drawing board and understand that blogging requires creativity and originality, while the observers in the public will also learn that to draw unnecessary conclusions will only leave you looking just plain silly grin grin

Celebrities › Re: Google Explains Why It Shutdown Linda Ikeji's Blog by Aida13: 4:43pm On Oct 09, 2014
SirShymex:
The difference is that she commercialised the blog, and was profiting from other people's work. Hence it's a serious issue. However, I'd say she's lucky because "blogger" offers a third party agreement and platform, and her private information would be protected. And that puts google in a tight corner, as the owner of the platform. That was why her blog was yanked off the internet - to protect the parent company.

If it had been her personal website, with her domain name, you're looking at a big lawsuit that probably would have been in a region that she wouldn't be able to afford. For example: with gettyimages, you need a licence agreement, and you have to always reference whoever took the pictures, and give them credit. You can read about it here: http://www.gettyimages.co.uk/corporate/licenseagreements.aspx

Well, she's very lucky, I must say. And hopefully, she'll start doing things the right way. She's a hustler, and I like her spirit.
You're quite correct on all points. It IS a serious issue and of course when it comes to Getty images or any other images that do not belong expressly to a person, they need a license to use it in any form of publishing whether online or off. I know she has a big battle ahead. But like you rightly said, she's a hustler. Like most of us. I hope she learns her lesson and takes it to heart, because the Naija mentality of getting away with murder is too much.

You obviously don't know the implications of plagiarism. I repeat, she can be sued for millions of dollars. Stealing is a BIG crime. Plagiarism is a BIG crime. The fact that Nigerians Plagiarize their school project, homework and every single thing in the University does not make it ok or a small crime as you seem to think it is.
Did she kill anybody? Or did she molest any underage minors? Because to me those are real 'crimes'. Yes, I know plagiarism is an 'offence' that is punishable to the full height of the law. STILL I think that suing her for 'millions' will be going over the top.

Stop trying to sound like you really want that to happen. Much as I don't encourage going against legal standards, I must confess you all are too quick to judge. She committed a blunder OF COURSE and she should be punished. So far that is what's happening.

I've seen a friend who went to an interview for a job in London, we both did the test but on different days. He thought he could use Naija style of copying from another Naija guy next to him during the test. When he saw me and told he got kicked out when the white invigilator noticed he was craning his neck for a simple aptitude test, I laughed. These white people no wan hear anything. He was simply told to leave and that was the end of the interview for him. So I know what cheating/plagiarism means even in the unis. I'm sure they're as strict in Nigeria, it's just in some places that they blur the lines.

These people stole just 12 pictures from Getty images, see what happened to them and how they got sued for $321,000. Linda stole over 1,000 images from this same company. Google initially deleted a few posts from Lindaikeji but deleted her blog when they realised she had stolen and plagiarised more than 10,000 times from Getty images, Mr Ayedun and SEVERAL people/organisations combined. So imagine what would happen if Getty images decide to sue her

Right now she needs your prayers, not for you people to be calling her victims haters and she needs to employ a Business Manager, PR personnel, Lawyers, Computer Programmers, Journalists, Photographers, get an office, etc...

Thank you. You have made a valid point, unlike some who just insult simply to get their issue across. Like the goathead below grin grin I can bet he's one of those who plagiarized their way through university, and will now come here forming tongue tongue

As for me, Getty Images is a bit different. Such companies can sue for millions because of the loss they incur from stolen/plagiarised images used without permission or payment. As for the complainant in this case, he will get to earn a lighter fee I'm sure, if at all. Beside, Linda Ikeji must have lost untold sums from her blog going down even for a day/week or who knows how long. Like I said, I just want to encourage those in the same industry to learn from her mistakes and aim for originality.

I think I know how serious the issue of being caught for plagiarism is. Not mentioning the fact you could get fined, but just the sheer embarrassment of being called out is one. But when you consider the content that has been 'copied', and what damage it may have caused in terms of loss of earnings or some such to the original owner, well in this case it's not going to run into millions. Unless they want to use her as a scape goat. Let's just see how it goes. I only wish for her to not be a victim, as this might discourage the 'industry'. But this would be a red light signal to future copycats.

Besides, like I said she's lost a lot in terms of integrity and standing already as a blogger. What more do you people want sef grin

Punishment - Really?
You call shutting the blog down punishment?
Here is what punishment looks like - A lawsuit in the millions (in dollars) claiming punitive damages amongst other things. Na that time you go know whats up.
People just shout 'lawsuit' anyhow. And millions of dollars? For what? Is he John Grisham? How much does he stand to lose for being plagiariazed of say a few thousand words? Don't make me laugh. Shutting her down is the worst they could do. No one is awarding anyone close to even a fraction of the amount you're spewing up there.

Shame on you. If Nigeria depends on people like you to develop, the nation is doomed.
Plagiarism is a FREAKING big deal. You can not make money of another persons hardwork. The fact that other people didn't report her doesn't make her copy copy legit.
I see. Thankfully the nation has been doomed long before I was even born. As for depending on me to develop, I think the nation has sucked enough of the young and aspiring types yet still has no hope of recovery. Admittedly I never knew how serious the crime is. Even at that, I wonder if this is not head-hunting. Why her, why now? Do you know how many sites copy and lift other people's material? That said, I hope they can give her a lighter penalty. It's hard to be original sometimes in her kind of industry.

Jeez didn't expect to have my head almost bitten off.

If you know nothing about something, staying quiet is a good alternative.

Plagiarism is an extremely grave issue in the US and it is treated with the highest priority punishment.

Linda Ikeji is nothing but a copy and paste blogger who takes all the credit for work she didn't do.
Hmm thank you for the lesson. But I put it to you that this is a very harsh penalty. I'm not saying she's right/wrong but does the punishment suit the crime? Anyway if so then she will have to face the consequences. Just please learn how to put your point across better ok. Instead of using style to tell me to shut up.

Is that enough to shut down a blog?? Come on! African crab-in-a-barrel mentality. That's why it's not good for women especially to showcase their wealth/success. The moment you do, others will try to bring you down (and usually it's the male category, not even female rivals). I hope she gets back bigger and stronger!! (and I'm not even her fan nor do I even visit her blog but I respect her hustle).

If she plagiarized, she should pay a fine or something. Not shutting down her bread and butter!

Prescription on korean series to watch. Genre should not be placed on romance, something action would do, modern (ancient is also allowed)
There's literally pages of recommended dramas on here, if you can simply look through the preceding pages.

I for one don't really like suggesting any series, because my taste is somewhat eclectic. But below are a few I tried and really liked. Highly recommend them.

- Gu Family Book

- Arang and the Magistrate

- Empress Ki

- Warrior Baek Dong Soo

- Sword and Flower

- Dong Yi

- The Great Seer

- Jung Yi

***** By the way they're ancient dramas. Mostly follow the same theme of palace intrigue, brother princes fighting for the crown, heartbreaking finale...Really an emotional rollercoaster if you're interested in braving it grin grin

as in very lame
Wasn't that bad; the TV ratings that year topped other dramas. AND it won most of the awards that year. That said, i already knew the deal going into the series, so like I mentioned earlier, I was watching it for the familiar faces I saw there. It's nice to see actors show up in their early dramas

Which brings me to the new drama alert--------SECRET DOOR!!

For now it's just 5 episodes so I know it's pretty new. I see actors from Joseon Gunman, Empress Ki, Warrior Baek Dong Soo and even Moon embracing the Sun (especially the girl that played the young Crown Princess. My she's all grown up now!!).

I love when they bring out new period dramas, so I'm already downloading some episodes of this one so I can check it out. Hopefully it will keep my interest like other new period/costume dramas such as Nightwatchmen's Journal, Gunman in Joseon, Three Musketeers and so on. Something to keep me busy in the next few weeks, yaaay!!

Secret Door

Drama series follows the conflict between King Yeongjo (Han Suk-Kyu) and Crown Prince Sado (Lee Je-Hoon). King Yeongjo pursues strong royal authority, while Crown Prince Sado insists on equality for all.

Yeah Moon/Sun was pretty lame in terms of no excitement but I knew that before starting the drama. Actually watched it mainly for the eye candy lmao the main actors are faces I've seen in other series and it was great watching them here.
