I made my post with the mindset Rohr would be playing 3-5-2. More so Musa's performance against Croatia was abysmal. That selection doesn't conform to what I perceive would be a weapon of mass destruction against Iceland hence my burst out. No tribalistic undertone whatsoever.
You can all see now.

I do check moniker before I quote them.

I knew you made that comment on a presumptive basis that Rohr intends switching to 3-5-2 formation.

Hahaha....

See me see trouble.

LieDetector quoted the news that said Rohr plans to drop Shehu, Ndidi(who is our top tackler) and start Musa.
If this news is anything to go by, then e dun be for us.

http://owngoalnigeria.com/2018/06/19/eagles-training-rohr-ponders-dropping-ndidi-shehu-abdullahi-new-role-for-moses-iwobi/

I just pray it is owngoal being owngoal, otherwise...
Here is LieDetector's reply

dropping shehu and starting Musa? We are not ready for any world cup. We have to wait for another four years. Anyone that doesn't see this is a federal character something is blind. It's clear now Rohr isn't the one calling the shots. Shame on NFF. Shame shame and more shame. Nonsense!
Everyone here agrees that the team lacks creativity which Iwobi brings and needs a player like Ndidi. We all know that Iwobi can't play out wide but we still all agree that he is our most creative player. The news stated that Rohr plans to give him a new role (which I guess is the AMF role) which is very fine by me.

I'm sure LieDetector made his comments which I quoted on the basis that Rohr plans to switch formation to 3-5-2 which does not require a WF. What prompted those posts was why is Rohr planning to accommodate a certain player that does not fit into the system simply because another player will be drop.

So, always try to understand what and how a discourse begins before jumping into it.

I don't know how pointing out something faulty turns me into a tribalist.

I don't play all these dirty games of tribalism. I just want the best team to file out. I'll need you guys to point out where have done this in the past. I have called for Ighalo to be dropped. I have suggested that Idowu is drop to make use of V. Moses as LWB. I pointed out the magnitude of S. MOSES loss to the team even before the team left the shore of the country.

So your accusation does not hold any water.

#peace

The boys are not happy with their recent performances and are willing to turn things around. Starting with their next match against Iceland. I hope we are lucky this time around.

i know all of you want 3-5-2 but Iceland is not a attacking side , Iceland play dirty defensive style of football ... if we must win we must attack them from both wings .... i stick to Ighalo cos he didn't get much supply against Croatia ... if you feed this guy he will score .
Our Midfielders and wingers are willing to feed Ighalo but he has no plates and spoon. So do we expect the same Midfielders to provide that for him.

Sir, with Ighalo, we are unlikely to score or create any meaningful chance and if we do, whats the probability that he will score. Don't forget he needs 5 clean chances to score 1. Our best bet is to start a more crafty forward line.

True. Nacho's finishing is something that we sorely need in this lineup. The question is how do we fit both in alongside Iwobi, Mikel, Ndidi and Vic Moses?
Vic Moses should be played as a wing back but I doubt he'll be cool with that
Moses has to choose between been cool and playing for the team to qualify.

We will be very solid and lethal playing Moses and Ebuehi as WBs. Iheanacho and Iwobi should lead our attack(those two have some telepathy understanding between them) by playing right in front of Mikel. Etebo and Ndidi should sit at the base of the team. Omuero Balogun and Ekong at the back.

Me personally don't want to see Musa start. We don't have the luxury of time to have him start.

An Excerpt on 3-5-2 Formation!

Soccer strategy: breaking down the 3-5-2 set
Coach Clay

The most recent formation to pop on the scene is the 3-5-2.
This formation is often used in higher levels of competition, such as collegiate or professional teams, but it is becoming more popular in the high school ranks.

To be successful with this formation, you must have exactly the right amount of talent. Because the talent is so precise to fit this formation, youth teams who randomly select members often don?t have the luxury and talent to use this formation.

DEFENSE
The 3-5-2 set consists of three defenders: a left fullback, right fullback and a sweeper (or center fullback).

These three defenders must stay tightly together, no more than 10-25 yards apart from each other at all times. They form a slight triangle, with the sweeper nearest his own goal.

That means, from left fullback to right fullback the distance should be no more than 50 yards. These three fullbacks must work together, sliding back and forth across the field, supporting each other and making sure that all attackers are accounted for.

Generally, the two outside fullbacks will mark the two opposing forwards ?man to man? all game long, leaving the sweeper free to help out whenever necessary.

Because there are only three defenders, they are much less likely to make offensive runs. Only if they are absolutely sure that they will score or assist in a goal should they make an offensive run and leave the man their marking. Again, this defensive strategy is only for the most skilled of teams and very confident defenders.

MIDFIELD
This formation allows for three central midfielders and two outside midfielders. Again, skill level comes into play here. This type of formation should not be run by a team unless its skill level is excellent.

With three players in the middle it is critical that they all have tight ball skills as well as communication skills. They must all work together in attacking, defending, maintaining possession, winning 50/50 balls and controlling the overall pace of the game.

These 5 midfielders can be murder on the opposing team if skilled, but they can also ruin a team?s chemistry and ability if not properly trained. It takes a very special group of individuals to create a successful 5-person midfield.

OFFENSE
The two forwards in a 3-5-2 have a very unique job. They must work together the entire game, rarely separating themselves by more then 10 to 20 yards.

Together, they must work to close off angles and defenders from clearing the ball out of the defensive areas. These two forwards must become so comfortable with each other that they can predict where the others next move will be.

It is very important for these players to be fast and agile. It is also important that these two players are in fairly good shape.

Now that there are only two of them on top, they have to pick up some of the slack for the missing third forward. With the additional fifth player in the midfield, the forwards receive a little bit more help then they would from the 4-4-2 formation, but still need to work together to produce.

The 3-5-2 formation is definitely not for everyone.

In fact, it is not for the majority. It is good, however, to be familiar with it ? what if an opposing coach is running it at you?

Picking a formation is simply up to the coaching staff. You want to pick the system that will best exploit your talents and support your less talented individuals.

Keep an open mind when picking formations, and don?t be afraid to try something totally new and unorthodox because, who knows? It could be your best formation yet.

With Ighalo you won't create chances cos he's always with a defender and doesn't make runs. It's runs that create space for a through pass. It's easier for people to blame the midfielders but if the striker doesn't open up how do you create the chance?
you Sabi the thing jare. He Ighalo, is too static. He hardly jumps. He does not open up for passes and the most anno thing he waits for the ball to come and meet him

Which did we squander?
Ighalo had 2. But both of his shots were weak. One came early in the game. Iwobi was well positioned to receive a pass but he chose to go for it but he hit it poorly and was deflected out for corner.
The second came immediately we conceded our first goal. It was a through pass from either Mikel or Iwobi that fell to his left foot. He took another shot and it was blocked. Moses had like 3. He cut and shot wide. The second one was from Mikels pass but he went down looking for pen. Nacho took one too that went wide. They are all chances. We were just not clinical with them.

You saw how Kane scored 2goals from 2 shots and if I'm not mistaken that was all the chances that fell to him today and he took them to salvage 3 good points against the Tunis

Sir, Ighalo is the best to lead the Attack not Iheanacho cos the latter is better off as a SS. Though the primary Assignment of a Striker is to score Goals, but sometimes you need to look beyond that. You need to consider what he can bring on board aside from scoring Goals.

Having Ighalo as a leading Striker with Iheanacho behind him gonna be more effective. Ighalo Stamina gonna be handy to bully and create space for Iheanacho to exploit and do the needful in the Box.

How on earth are you suggesting the Duo of Iheanacho and Iwobi to lead the Attack?! We've debated countlessly on this Thread that Iheanacho is better off as a SS not a leading Striker with Facts and Stats.

Moreso, have you watched Iwobi played as a SS, even for his Club?! What Match(es), how many Minutes?! You can't just pick Players for Roles based on Perception or personal Conviction Sir.
Anytime I say Nacho should lead the line with Alex, I'm suggesting the 2 false 9s in a 3 - 5-2 set up. And not as a lone striker. We don't have the required striker for the lone striker role. Simy would have been an option but no room to experiment.

Yes I saw that, but Etebo was still advancing. The Ref could have always brought the play back and awarded a free kick.
the ref refused to blow for foul despite the several kicks Etebo was receiving. Etebo knew we were searching for goal falling down(just the way Moses does) won't help matters cos the ref who is right in front of you.,and yet refuse to blow after 1,2kicks will only wave play on if you fall.

Moses needs to be talked to. He needs to keep going most especially in the final third. We are not good with set pieces. Of what use will a set piece be for us if he keeps falling to win them. We played more free kicks and corners yet none was threatening. Mtcheew...

Iwobi did something that caught my attention. He knew we suck at defending corners, he ran Won a ball that was heading to wards the corner and diverted it to corner throw. He knew It was safer with cirner throws than corner kicks.

Tunisia lost because of the same thing. All Africans sucks at set piece defending. The dude had all the time in this world to clear the ball out at the dieing minutes but he chose back pass that was heavy and later resulted to corner. We seem to lack higher football intelligence. I

Idowu and Shehu kept getting us corners as if se we be huddersfield wey Sabi defend corners.

I hope Rohr fix it. Ekong too can't jump. Then our players look heavy. Their jumps were not convincing. They only leap like frog and expect the ball to touch their head. Kole werk!

We don't have to use strength to break defences we need clever attackers. Till the time Ighalo was subbed off he never won a single ball with his strength. Of what use is strength when you can't use it. We don't have strikers like Costa that will fight for every aerial lballs. You will only see Ighalo standing and backing defenders.

If Rohr starts him, we will not score.

We started having problem curtailing them when we started opening space for them through poor positioning to operate.

All Modric's ball for the first 15minutes was towards our Right side. It shows that they took their time to study each of our players and know their weekends.
