"" Factory specification stated 0w-40 or 10w-40. How in the world did you conclude 20w-50? For a small engine, low turbulent-flow compression?!""
shocked

Trac,
Thank you for the response... The part above made me wonder if I am actually doing more harm to my engine than I already know... So I took your advice to do a lil soul searching and research, I must confess that what you say is true...

1st off, I have a lot of documentation that came with the car but because they are all written in German, I don't always look at them but I did today and saw a lot...
I noticed a booklet that is used to record the different times the car was brought in for servicing, the date, the oil used and the odometer reading...

The pages that covers 30,867 km in 1997 to 109,029 km in 2003 are still intact... And truly they were using a minimum of 0W-40 and maximum of 5W-40 undecided

Yeesss!!! Wheere is Uncle A. U Hanson (the Portharcourt 1st son)?
Car Talk / Re: Mercedes Benz Thread by aikerism(m): 9:20pm On Sep 06, 2013
[quote author=Trac]

Your's is worse than the fellow inquiring. He is correct but mixed up in reinstall intervals. The motor was built around the 229.x standard. What you have will not measure-up to "geometry-surface" demands of contact and sliding mated surfaces, as opposed to what the manufacturer stated as engineered around. For areas where Mobil 1 fluids are not readily available, certain alternatives were officially stated by Mercedes. What's puzzling is how you ended with XF (of every brand sold in the stores). That is the wrong application for any European car. Go over the sheet of the XF formulation and interpret the numbers. Afterwards compare to what is expected.

By the way, with the engine stated and the formulation you disclosed, there is almost no point using an oil filter. It is useless. Also, wear at the dead centre will be exceedingly prominent because velocity, pressure and temperature are least favourable during hydrodynamic operations at that region. That should be the least of your fears. The bearings would be what I would be concerned about. Then, -- corrosion! Alkalinity!

If you are in doubt, get professional advice. Oil documentation is there for a purpose. Stick to manufacturer's specifications.

P.S. The oil you recommended is inferior to Mobil 1 Euro Formulation and the rest (from one end of the spectrum to the other). They are not of the same tier.

Mine is not worse... At least my baby works and drives like mad. I may not know the meaning of all the grammer you wrote above but I use Mobil XHP in my C200 W202. I did not come up with dat my self ofcourse... It was "PROFESSIONAL" advice... And I still don't want to worry my head if my adviser got it right or wrong but people are different and approaches can also be different in the end we all hope to get results and learn from each other. Sometimes you should consider that apart from someone like me that lives in Abuja, someone might be driving an MB in Ohafia Abia State... And if he follows your write ups and suggestions he may not drive or own a benz cos most times they are not realistic locally. I am not and will not insult ur knowlege on the subject but know that people who can't get "PROFESSIONAL" help will still find a way to drive and maintain their benz. Even Uncle A.U Hanson takes care of his MB him self.

P.S: I was not recommending my oil to the person who was inquiring, I only told him what I use that has been serving me for a long time and asked him to choose wisely.

Gee2728: Were am @ its either the total coolant or abro and som other nameless coolant.. Asked around for the MB coolant but could not find one..

Thank you my brother, some people sound like if its not this or that then its nothing! I beg to differ... Perhaps when we get to the stage where everything works and is readily available... But until then I refused to accept it as cutting corners... It is called going for the alternative. Or are we supposed to park our vehicles and order for stuff from abroad? Hell NO!
When we see the recommended stuff we use it... But if its not readily available what happens...?

LecturerIFE: I prefer "ss" method, it works just fine. This is how it works: search for d video of ur choice from Youtube. Click on d video from d searched results. Replace "www." or "m." (If u r on mobile) that precede d video link with "ss" and send. Select d video format and quality and save. Example: if the video link is http://www.youtube.com/watch?gl=US&hl=en-GB&client=mv-google&v=m-R-WxRNQQ8, remove d "www." and replace with "ss." so it looks thus http://ssyoutube.com/watch?gl=US&hl=en-GB&client=mv-google&v=m-R-WxRNQQ8 and send.
NB: MP4 360p displays well on all blackberry OS, MP4 720p displays on blackberry 7.0 and higher. FLV formats only display on PC.
You can either use your default browser or Opera, but d Opera must be set to desktop view for it to work. It works perfectly well on PC too.

jahjehova: Pls house, other than Mobil 1, is there any other engine oil that will not be sending me to nechanic for servicing every 2-3 months?

My temp guage reads above 80°c in the city and drops to 80° when travelling. Is that safe? If no, whats your diagnosis

I use Mobil XHP on my 96 C200 V4 natuarally aspirated girlfriend... grin , she drives well and doesn't cough or belch... Pls choose wisely so as not to use an incompatible oil in ur engine cool . Cheeeers!

Gee2728: nice clerification there. I took ur advice abt that rdiator coolant and since then I have notice a great differnce with the fuel consumption.due to the rain down here most times it takes quit a while for the temp guage to get to 80-90, but as the drive goes on it eventually does. But the biggest plus is I filled up the tank at 64litrs a week ago and now at 1/2 way I have done abt 204miles which I consider fair since its mostly city driving. Its a rly serious improvement compare to what I get b4.

Uncle Gee what radiator coollant are you refering to? And house how does the collant affect the fuel consumption? I really wanna know.

kuntash:

going by d design of the fuel tank, if ur gauge is faulty and caused probably by an over fill, u might be decieved to hear a false click indicating a full tank and hence might wanna end it.

I would try to understand the gauge and of course my mpg steadily and manage it thus, especially when I don't trust the electrical personnel to work for me.

85+% of faults found in naija and even in overseas regarding Benz or BMW are electrical wahala..

au.hanson:

Sorry , i just saw this now. It will still work, depending on how it was coded to your security system.

Reason why i changed mine is that i didn't want to encounter any of those security issues that i may not understand.. so i decided to build a system of my own that i could fully understand with my finger tips. i install mine at the boot differently from the usual installation at the hood or under the dash board

I live in PH, i bought mine from Alogi Market(pls forgive the spelling if i am wrong), near Aba. In short, i ordered for it from there.. I know there are several other places you can get them like Lagos, Kaduna, Onitsha, etc.

Thanks Oga Hanson, I live in Abuja buh I visit Aba regularly. I knw Alaoji market well. I will replace my harness soon buh now the main thing am replacing is my 018 ECU, (see pic) I am fixing a 015 one. I have confirm dats dd problem because my electrician put anoda one and my car stopped jerking and reved smoothly.

Romance / Re: Men: Do You Have to Be Financially Stable Before Marriage or Not? by aikerism(m): 8:01am On May 12, 2013
shizzle11: Financial independence and stability is absolutely pertinent for any marriage to succeed. Can't imagine living in my fathers house where they practically pay all the bills and my fiance comes around to spend days like some families do or depending on some relations/family members for upkeep or support. Its embarrassing and annoying.

We have seen cases where the woman left the man cos he can't provide for the family and starts chasing other men. Now how will a man feel if his wife left him on account of this.

My definition of financial indep. and stability
1. Get your own flat
2. Be mobile
3. Have at least a regular job and diversify with time
4. Have a steady income or earning
5. If you marry the right woman, she should also be bringing something to the table

Well 1-4 is checked... And as for 5. Am hooked to a wonderful lady already and by d special grace of God introduction na dis month end!

To contribute to this topic... No one should marry and go and suffer. A man should provide for his family cos if he can't he is worse than an inf*****, so says d holy bible. In all obeying the injunction to marry brings blessings, he who finds a wife finds a good thing. So as men putting somethings on ground shows you are ready and that there is room for improvement. May God help us all. Amen! wink
