SyrusdeHansome: The best reply so far. A guy that flopped big time in French Ligue one is the one they keep making noise abt. What's MLS? Is it the same league that a 40 yrs old Ibrahimovic dominated or Carlos Vela an Arsenal flop destroyed? Messi fans are shameless abeg. They say Saudi league is retirement league but have u pple heard of Gabriel Veiga? B4 he went to Saudi league he was wanted by Barca, Real Madrid, Man utd, Arsenal, Napoli, etc but he chose saudi. Those guys are slowly employing the same techniques Europe use to develop their league nd europeans out of jealousy are using cheap blackmail to demarket their effort. naturally, y’all penadogs are dvmb so I’m not surprised you typed this trash, if winning 2 French ligue and all the goals and assists he did in Ligue one, is the real definition of flop, then I want to flop like that all my life. Check with no goals see his ratings, can’t say the same for that frustrated scam in the desert, he go yell make referee give am penalty, even if in a very Lowley rated desert league. LOS ANGELES — Sergio Busquets picked out his pass to Lionel Messi near midfield. Messi saw a streaking Jordi Alba and delivered it on a platter. Alba calmly put it in the back of the net.
Flashbacks of Barcelona days as the old friends combined for a textbook goal that surely made David Beckham and Inter Miami ownership smile. That combination was the second goal of Miami’s eventual 3-1 win over reigning MLS Cup champions LAFC at a sold out BMO Stadium.
Lionel Messi helps Inter Miami overcome LAFC as they chase an MLS Eastern conference playoff spot.Inter Miami leave BMO Stadium at Los Angeles on a positive note thanks to a pair of assists from Lionel Messi
In front of a star studded crowd at BMO Stadium that included Prince Harry, Inter Miami put on another Hollywood performance, dismantling Los Angeles FC 3-1 on Sunday night. Facundo Farias scored his first Inter Miami goal and Lionel Messi assisted on two goals in the second half as Inter Miami's counter attack was too much for the Black and Gold. LAFC had their chances but between Drake Callender coming up with huge saves and bad decision-making by Denis Bouanga on breakaways, Steve Cherundolo's team wasn't able to put it all together when it mattered most.
Those same shirts, along with some No. 10 from Argentina and Barcelona took up a large majority of the crowd in L.A.
Late in the 2nd half a pitch invader wearing the Barca shirt tried his luck to get close to Messi but was met by security. Not too long after Messi headed towards the stands to take a corner kick and waved at fans met by a roaring applause.
LAFC could have one of the best fanbases in the league, but not even their boisterous support could stop this freight train. In the 83rd minute Messi picked up his 2nd assist of the night, giving Leonardo Campana an easy goal after taking advantage of defender Aaron Long slipping. The celebration roar would’ve fooled anybody to think they were in South Florida. Messi chants broke out as some of the locals headed for the exit.
Ryan Hollingshead got his consolation for a solid game as he headed home a goal off a corner kick in the 90th minute.
L.A. is a city where people come to make their dreams come true. Inter Miami’s hope of making a miraculous playoff push remains alive after their trip to California.
And since Messi has arrived, they have yet to lose a game. Not even a Hollywood script could compete with this.
*Inter Miami have NEVER won or scored against Los Angeles.* SOURCE

An Iranian weightlifter has been banned from the sport for life after he was seen shaking hands with an Israeli competitor.
Mostafa Rajaei took a photo with Maksim Svirsky at the World Masters Weightlifting Championships in Poland.
Noted by the New York Post, Iran does not recognize Israel, and it disallows all contact between Iranian and Israeli athletes.
The weightlifting federation bans athlete Mostafa Rajaei for life from entering all sports facilities in the country and dismisses the head of the delegation for the competition, Hamid Salehinia," the Iran Weightlifting Federation announced.
The federation called the act "unforgivable."
In 2021, Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei asked competitors "not to shake hands with a representative of the (Israeli) criminal regime to obtain a medal." Iranian athletes were even disqualified and provided medical certificates to avoid Israeli athletes in recent years.
Rajaei "crossed the red lines of the Islamic Republic" at the event where the Iranian delegation had been "sent with the support of the federation."
Rajaei finished second overall in the men's over-35 age group in the 240-pound division at the event. He broke the world record with a 430-pound clean and jerk.
Rajaei is a former member of the Iranian national team. SOURCE

Erling Haaland has been selected as the 2022/23 UEFA Men’s Player of the Year. Pep Guardiola also won the UEFA Coach of the Year award.
Haaland, who was nominated alongside fellow sky blue star Kevin De Bruyne, also beat off competition from Lionel Messi.
The award was revealed at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco this evening and caps a brilliant week for the forward, who was named PFA Players’ Player of the Year on Tuesday.
Haaland enjoyed a phenomenal 2022/23 season that culminated in the illustrious Treble of Premier League, FA Cup and UEFA Champions League.
He took the Premier League by storm beating the goal record set by Alan Shearer and Andrew Cole, by firing home a remarkable 36.
He also hit 52 across all competitions - the most goals in all competitions by a player at a Premier League club.
Haaland was on fire in Europe too, scoring 12 goals, which made him top scorer in the Champions League this past campaign.
That tally also meant he enjoyed the honour of most goals for an English club in a single Champions League season, alongside former Man Utd striker, Ruud van Nistelrooy.
The 23-year-old also became not only the youngest but the quickest player to net 35 Champions League goals – five of which he scored in our 7-0 win over RB Leipzig in the Round of 16.
That means he became only the third player ever to score five goals in one Champions League game.
“I am honoured to have been named UEFA Men’s Player of the Year. There are so many top talents across Europe who could have won this award, so I am really grateful to everyone who voted for me,” said Haaland.
“We have an incredible team here at Manchester City and this accolade wouldn’t have been possible without the support of my teammates, coaches and all of the staff at the Club.
“It was an incredible season for all of us and for me personally after securing the Treble. Lifting my first Premier League, FA Cup and UEFA Champions League was an incredible feeling and it’s a feeling we all want to share again this season.”
Treble-winning City boss Pep Guardiola has been named the 2022/23 UEFA Men's Coach of the Year.
Guardiola, who led City to the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League trophies across the season, was on a three-man shortlist for the prestigious honour.
He beat off competition from Simone Inzaghi, who led Inter to the Ataturk Olympic Stadium showpiece final against City, as well as Luciano Spalletti, who won the Serie A title with Napoli.
In emerging victorious in Turkey on that memorable June evening, Guardiola became the first manager to win two European Trebles in the men’s game.
It helped him surpass the eight other bosses who have won one European men’s Treble, including Celtic's Jock Stein, Stefan Kovacs of Ajax, Guus Hiddink with PSV, Sir Alex Ferguson with Manchester United, Jose Mourinho with Inter, Bayern Munich's Jupp Heynckes, Luis Enrique of Barcelona and Hansi Flick of Bayern Munich. Sports › Toni Kroos on players moving to Saudi Arabia: “They Go For Money” by AImiron(op): 3:46pm On Aug 31, 2023 |
Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos has highlighted the lack of human rights in Saudi Arabia and criticised players moving to the Middle Eastern state in the prime of their careers
Toni Kroos has criticised players moving to Saudi Arabia by claiming that it is “ruining football” while he would not go there due to human rights issues
The Real Madrid midfielder’s comments come a week after he labelled the decision of Gabri Veiga to leave Celta Vigo for the Middle East as ‘embarrasing’. Veiga had been strongly linked with a move to Liverpool this summer while a deal was Napoli was in place before he joined Al-Ahli.
Based in Jeddah, Al-Ahli have been one of the most active Saudi clubs in the summer transfer window. A multitude of Euro-based players have moved to Saudi Arabia this summer in a concentrated recruitment drive by the Public Investment Fund (PIF) of the nation funding transfers.
Roberto Firmino, Edouard Mendy, Franck Kessie, Allan Saint-Maximin, Merih Demiral, Riyad Mahrez and Roger Ibanez have all left European clubs for Al-Ahli this summer – while multiple others have also moved to Saudi Arabia.
Cristiano Ronaldo began the trend by joining Al-Nassr in January, while the likes of Sadio Mane, Fabinho, Karim Benzema, Ruben Neves, Alex Telles, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, Kalidou Koulibaly, Sadio Mane and Neymar have all moved to Saudi – with Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah also linked
Kroos explained to Sports Illustrated that a lack of human rights in Saudi Arabia is “the one thing that would stop me from making such a move.” However, the midfielder added: “Everyone has to make this decision for themselves, such as Cristiano Ronaldo, who decided to do so towards the end of his career
“But it becomes very difficult when players who are in the middle of their careers and have the quality to play for top clubs in Europe decide to make such changes. And then it is said that it is an ambitious sporting decision to go there, but the truth is that it's all about the money. SOURCE

Ukrainian sisters arrested for twerking on the graves of fallen soldiers, face 5 years in prison
Two Ukrainian women who filmed themselves dancing and twerking on the graves of slain soldiers in a Kyiv cemetery on the nation’s Independence Day face five years in prison after being charged with desecrating a grave.
The unidentified sisters were visiting the grave of their father, who they said was killed defending Ukraine from Russia’s invasion near Izium, when they broke into suggestive dance moves last Thursday, a viral clip showed.
The women — clad in crop tops, booty shorts, and Crocs — were seen setting up a camera before backing up to dance in between the flower-adorned graves of two soldiers at Forest Cemetery, as pictures of the fallen fighters and the Ukraine flag were visible in the shot.
Kyiv police said in a Telegram post Friday that the women had been detained less than an hour after officers were made aware of the ill-advised viral routine.
The sisters were booked wearing the same outfits that they had worn in the controversial cemetery clip, photos show.
Investigators of the Desnyan police department, in agreement with the district prosecutor’s office, started criminal proceedings under Part 2 of Article 297 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — insult to the grave,” the post read in Ukrainian.
The issue of notifying them of suspicion is being resolved. Suspects face restriction of liberty for a period of three to five years or deprivation of liberty for the same period.”
The sisters later took to Instagram to issue a mea culpa, explaining in a written statement that they had initially thought that their late father would have gotten a kick out of their provocative antics.
“My sister and I want to apologize to everyone, apologize for our thoughtless video. It was absolutely not our aim to denigrate anyone, least of all the memory of our fallen heroes,” the women alternately said in a solemn joint video statement posted to Instagram Monday by the account @vl_lindemann, which had reportedly originally posted the dancing clip.
“We understand that our actions had no place where our father is buried with other fallen defenders of Ukraine. We are sincerely sorry and asking to forgive our stupidity.”
“We completely understand how shameful our act appears, and we are now ashamed. We are asking forgiveness from everyone who might have been offended. Please forgive us for this horrible mistake.” SOURCE
