PoliticsRe: Economic Realities: The Way Forward For President-elect Muhammadu Buhari by aimuan(m): 1:04pm On May 07, 2015
barcanista:
Election is over, post election banters should be winding up as the incumbent administration run her last lap.

During the electioneering period, President-elect Muhammadu Buhari and the ruling party-elect APC made lots of promises. Some of these promises ranges from provision of 24/7 electricity, provision of 3 million jobs annually, ending corruption to standstill, reduction of recurrent expenditure and increase in capital expenditures, provision of monthly stipends for the elderly, disabled and unemployed, and 24 months payment to Youth Corps members (1 year each for service and post service period) and feeding of public primary school pupils across the country. All these are in addition to numerous capital project that was promised by the government.

There are also several demands from different groups to the President-elect. The "ex-Militants" want Amnesty sustained, the Governors elected on APC's platform led by Rochas Okorocha want increased funding to states, the people in the North want an end to the insurgency, the people in the South South/South East are calling for political and economic emancipation and good leadership, those in the South West are advocating for improved governance and leadership. Everybody is making one demand or the other.

Present Reality
Nigeria's revenue is dwindling already with no hope in sight if the status quo remains. Our budget is destined to run on deficit of over N1.3 trillion, which will only add more burden on the people. The revelation by Ngozi Iweala that Nigeria had to borrow to pay wages and salaries of workers is a sign that we can't continue this way. No country can sustain when it borrows to pay salaries. What happens when the loan becomes too much that more borrowings is rejected? This will sentence us to IMF's Sturctural Adjustment Program, which will take us 100 years backward and punish generations to come.

Mistake of The Outgoing Incumbent
The grave mistake that the Incumbent President Jonathan made was to give in to the 36 States Governors in 2010 led by Bukola Saraki and later by Rotimi Amaechi to share the $25 billion Excess Crude Account among the FG, States and LGs,rather than to admonish them to look for alternative. Sadly, Nigerians never felt the impact of the so call shared dollar windfall. It only expanded the financial war-chest of the politicians and their friends. If this fund was still in place, Nigeria will have no business to resort to borrowing of less then N500b to pay salaries.

The Way Forward
Though President-elect Muhammadu Buhari made loads of promises, he should not subject himself to any form of pressure so as not to make ridiculous decision that will ruin the country in his bid to fulfil his pledge. Buhari should as a matter of urgency scrap the Amnesty Program, he should send an Executive bill to the NASS for the creation of Excess Crude Account Fund and/or any Savings fund that the country may turn to when in dire need. He should put hold to all his social programs and place emphasis on developmental programs. As a matter of importance, he should cut his entire pay package by at least 50% and encourage his Aides and Cabinet members to do same. He should also encourage his party-men to do same. The extra monies should be used as an intervention fund or for capital projects. He should also reduce his number of foreign trips and those of his Aides and Ministers. President-elect Buhari need to revisit the call for Fiscal Federalism (which he promised in 2011), so as to empower states while he creates special fund for the "not-so-viable" states and region to move the nation forward.

The President-elect should revisit our 3 existing refineries and put them in at least 90% productive state so as to reduce our dependent on imported refined petroleum product, and at the same time solve the ever increasing subsidy bills. He should strengthen the anti-corruption agencies and ensure that whoever is indicted is prosecuted and not just that, the loot of the thief is retrieved. His corruption fight should begin with members of his "caucus" and extend outside so as to win the confidence of Nigerians especially the non-Northerners. He should also send executive bill to the parliament to amend sections of our criminal laws and codes that does not reflect to the present reality.

The manufacturing sector should be encouraged along with improved electricity so as to boost our economic prospects. Insecurity ought to be addressed and should not be limited to Boko-Haram fight alone.

President-elect Buhari should do these in addition to long term economic policies for the growth of Nigeria. The success of Buhari's administration is vital for the success of Nigeria. Though in opposition, I shall always wish the administration well.did u say he should scrap amnesty program?

God Bless Nigeria

Same thing people from Togo, Benin etc will say.Anyway I don't think any Ghanaian in Nigeria will also say Nigeria is better than Ghana. So that's normal.Everybody thinks his/her country is better.
Some folks from Somalia were even saying their country is the best in Africa( On Facebook ).
my brother we still remain giant of Africa there's no questions abt that.the only problen we have is the actions of the few who takes delight in tarnishing our image in another mans land with their get rich quick mentality. Aside that an, we are great.even many Ghanians jealous us.

Why do we always have to compare Nigeria to Ghana? Is Ghana the only country you saw there.Besides were you expecting Nigeria to be better than Ghana or what? This ain't surprising .It would've been rather surprising if Nigeria was to be ahead of Ghana.
what makes you think Ghana is better than Nigeria? I live in Ghana they re no way close to Nigeria in anyway, except the fact that they re peaceful.

My Perils include:

1)SPORTING DRAWBACK: if you think zinedine Zidane,Eden Hazard, leo Messi are the most creative footballers then you've never seen me play, but with my eyesight I had to cool down on my football career.Infact in my University days I rarely get chosen in teams sad

3 )DOMESTIC/EVERYDAY CHALLENGES: I can't fall asleep swiftly without looking for a means to drop my glasses somewhere,if I use contacts my sparkling eyes turn red the next day,if it's raining/foggy my glasses becomes completely misty and unlike windshields, spectacles don't come with wipers sad

Thandolwethu:
I start by imploring you to read this letter with an open and unbiased mind as this will enable you grab the full gist of my message.
I am a full blooded South African, born and bread in Soweto. I have never been to Nigeria and my impression of your Country is formed by the behaviour and actions of the many Nigerians who live in SA and what we hear and read from the media about the goings on in your country.
I deliberately joined Nairaland today as I noted that alot of you are on this Forum hence its a good platform to pass my message. Suffice it to say that i will delete this account after this message. I will read your responses with keen interest.

1. There is no question that there was xenophobic attack on Foreigners in SA in the past 3weeks. What is in doubt is the scale of the attack. I have noted that Nigerians have overtly blown the crises out of proportion by spreading lies and wrong informatiom concerning the crisis. The idea that South Africans are going round SA cities killing, maiming and burning Foreigners is a lie. Only 7 people have been killed so far and of these 7, 3 are south Africans, 2 Ethiopians and 2 Mozambican. The world media is in agreement with these figures. While its 7 lives too many that doesnt give credence to the news going round in Nigeria that we are killing and burning Foreigners. If thats true then there would be more people dead.
STOP BELIEVING WHATYOU READ AND WATCH ON social media as most are lies and fabricated figments of the imaginations of mischievous Nigerians in other to stoke the flame of discord between Nigeria and SA.

2. Why are Nigerians up in arms against SA with xenophobia when the war in Nigeria is far worse than here in SA. Boko haram is killing thousands your people everyday and theres no end in sight meanwhile no Nigerian has been killed in this Xenophobic attack. That is why Nigerians throng our embassies in Lagos and Abuja seeking Visas to come to SA and escape the despicable living conditions in the slums of Nigeria.

3. This recent Xenophobic attack was predicated on the fact that Foreigners commit so much heinous crimes in SA without impunity and we are tired of all these. We have our own criminals here so we cant add more problems from foreigners.
A. NIigerians are the kingpins of drugs killing our children and society. Your brothers drug our girls into prostitution. They con our people with fraud and 419. They hack into our bank accounts stealing millions.

B. Zimbabweans are involved in robberies and car hijackings

C. Mozambicans kill our farmers and take our jobs for peanuts leaving many South Africans jobless

D. Ethiopians and Somalians open shops to do illegal activities and pollute our communities. Theres a Somalian shop in every 2 houses on every street in SA. No Country can allow that.

SA has its own issues but we would like to solve them without the added problems of Foreign crimials.

If you like burn down shoprite and close MTN its your people that will suffer because these companies employ millions of Nigerians. They will simply go jobless.

Thank you
you said we should burn down MTN and shoprite it our people dat will suffer.if I ask, from where this companies get the money they used to pay our people(their wokers)?do they bring the money from SA?or is from the profit they make in Nigerian?u see how stupid you south Animals are(SA).for ur information if we want to start here,we wnt start by destroying companies owned by South Animal,we ll just replace their CEOs with Nigerians, and send your people back to you, idiot.
PoliticsRe: How The Igbos Worked For Buhari's Victory -shettima by aimuan(m): 9:21am On Apr 02, 2015
EUROBOMBER:
Let me start by saying congratulations to Muhammadu Buhari for winning the presidential election and emerging as Nigeria’s president-elect. I have come to realise that Buhari’s victory is the will of God for Nigeria and so, I have come to accept him as my president.

I also want to congratulate President Goodluck Jonathan for being mature enough to accept defeat and concede the election. This man remains one of the greatest Nigerian presidents because he could have decided to set Nigeria on fire but chose the honourable path.

I want to also recognise all my fellow PDP e-warriors that stood beside the President. Thank you for your resilience and unflinching support all through the struggle. Also to recognise all the APC e-warriors who fought bravely in support of their party despite all odds and won the battle.

MY MESSAGE FOR BUHARI

Now that you have become the President, I want to let you know that the change Nigerians really need is not the change of personalities or political party, Nigerians are just tired of the way things have been going in this country. Nigerians are suffering; we struggle to provide basic needs that ordinarily the Government should provide. Thieves continue to steal and get richer while the majority of Nigerians are languishing in poverty. This is the reason why Nigerians have decided to give you a chance; the people believe that God can use you to turn things around in this country that is why you were voted for last Saturday.

(1) Fight corruption to a complete halt in this country especially in the petroleum sector. Sanitize the NNPC, ensure transparency and accountability. Nigerians all over should be able to benefit from our God-given resources. A few cannot continue to hold this country to ransom and steal at will.

(2) Provide stable and reliable power supply for Nigerians. This will enable SME’s to thrive and encourage investors to flock massively into the country. The cost of doing business in this country is crazy because of high energy costs. We must do away with generators in this country for good Mr President.

(3) Please diversify our economy. We cannot continue to depend heavily on oil in Nigeria. Sit down and take a good look at the six geopolitical zones in this country and find a way of harnessing all economic potentials for the good of all Nigerians. Our economy must be less dependent on crude oil.

(4) Deal ruthlessly with corrupt persons who believe that they can continue to steal and do business as usual. This is a democracy but Mr President, you are the C-in-C and you have enormous powers at your disposal, please use them! Don’t be like Jonathan who allowed his Government to be hijacked by criminals who looted the nation dry while Nigerians cried.

(5) Finally, Buhari could be the man that God could use to finally cement Nigeria’s bond of unity by handing over to an Igbo-Nigerian president after his tenure in office whether 4 or 8yrs. Like the Elder statesman Yakubu Gowon said, electing an Igbo president would heal the old wounds of the civil war. Buhari’s name will be written in gold both in the hearts of the Igbos if he can be the instrument to achieving Igbo presidency in this country. If Buhari, being a Fulani from the North can transfer presidential power to the Igbos after him then he will be like the hinge holding Nigeria together.

A WORD FOR THE SE

I want to thank my geopolitical zone the SE for standing with Jonathan till the end. Yes, he lost the election but we have made a bold statement that we can stand with you till death when we give you our word. There was immense pressure to abandon the minority Ijaw man and join the majority but we refused and stood with the minority till the very end. We must however join hands with the new president to move this great nation forward. Personally, I have concluded that Nigeria has come to stay since we have survived this 2015 presidential election. Let us also build good bridges with other geopolitical zones so that we can produce Nigeria’s president after Buhari. No zone can produce the president alone in this country; you need the support of at least four zones to produce the president!

Let us also eschew bitterness and drop all these talk about Biafra; we are Nigerians and we have everything to gain in this country if we can play our game well.

A WORD FOR THE NIGER DELTA

Thank God we can now say that Nigeria has produced a president for the first time from the minority in the person of Goodluck Jonathan who is about to leave office. I can understand the pain/anger because of the outcome of this election but the truth is that what has happened is the will of God for Nigeria; I see the finger of God in all these. This is Buhari’s time to rule this country; he is a man of destiny. He has come just at the right time to save this country from gliding into abyss.

Stop calling the Yorubas traitors and all that. Remember that the Yorubas overwhelmingly voted for your son in 2011 and rejected this same buhari. Check the figures and see that buhari was soundly rejected by the Yorubas in 2011. All Nigerians believed that Jonathyan would be a Messiah that would come and turn things around in this country; this was a man who had no shoes to go to school, who was from a poor background. Nigerians voted massively for him only to be so disappointed that he has not been able to make their lives better. Things are much more difficult for Nigerians now than when Jonathan took over. This is the reason why the Yourubas have rejected Jonathan this time. It is not out of hatred or gang-up but because he has not performed well! Same story about most of the MB and that is why Jonathan lost the MB. Nigerians never had it this bad, state Governors are owing salaries for months, people are hungry, unable to pay school fees and unable to meet their basic human needs.

How foolish can a Government be? Imagine someone that wants to come for a second term and civil servants were not paid their December salaries to celebrate Christmas! This is just unbelievable! It was in December last year that I began to question this Government in my mind but I still continued my relentless support on Nairaland for Jonathan. I saw my relatives who were Civil Servants going hungry during the Christmas celebrations, some could not even purchase new clothes for their kid, how painful!

As for me, I will do my very best in my own little capacity to support Buhari in changing this country for good. If things should continue the way they were going under Jonathan I wonder what the future of our children would be to be honest. It is God that has pushed out Jonathan not Nigerians because of all the prayers and crying that has gone up to him.

Let me also use this medium to appeal to all reasonable Yorubas on Nairaland to prevail on their people to stop opening funny threads about Igbo this Igbo that just because Jonathan lost. The APC people should stop opening threads to tell other Nigerians ‘Ntorrr’, we should move away from such pettiness and mediocrity.

A WORD TO THE CORE NORTH

And to the core North, let this election be a lesson and a reference point. A southerner sitting as president presided over his own defeat, accepted the results and went ahead to congratulate the winner from the north. In 2011 when Jonathan defeated Buhari, he refused to concede defeat but shouted that the election was rigged when we all know that he was defeated by Jonathan then. Nobody is burning tyres on the road in the South, nobody is burning Mosques, nobody is burning houses/cars and nobody is going about killing Northerners. Should the Northerners lose elections in future we expect them to accept the results and not disturb the peace. Jonathan has set a very good precedent not only for Nigeria but Africa.

So after all the mouth they've been making they know how to congratulate? They were acting as if the presidency is their birthright, yet barely 2hours later, they're singing a new tune and sending hypocritical congratulatory messages.

How fickle. This is a lesson to all. They'll love you when you're in power and abandon you when they're done with you.
MEND did not make mouth, they even endores BUHARI.congratulations to you and all Nigerians, today a new nation has bn born, the NEW NIGERIA.

Lol...... Yobo, are you saying we should vote any man that can Jump up or the strongest candidate?

Organise a marathon race for GEJ and Martin Onovo and see who will win. With your article, you are actually saying Martin Onovo should be the next president of nigeria because he is the strongest and the youngest of all candidates.

If Jonathan was the reason we won AFCON, he must also be the reason we failed to qualify twice under his administration. The AFCON seems to thrill you because it was the only trophy you won in your illustrious career both in club and country football, no forgeting the fact that you were on bench at the tournament. Keshi only use you at the dying minutes, such two minutes from normal time.

Tell me you are doing this for free and I will seize to support Buhari. It's no sin getting your share of the 21 Billion. You don't even stay in Nigeria, you don't know what the citizens go through.

Do me a favour by joining a Nigerian premier league club since you 've been rejected in europe and see how difficult life is in the country.

You played in England, ask your self why Wayne Rooney, Frank Lampard, Stephen Gerrard, John Terry, Rio Ferdinand, etc, stay put in their homeland and you, Joseph Yobo couldn't stay back in your own country and play proffessional football.

Well sha, Their is no sin in the CLUBLESS supporting the CLUELESS.
Weldone Yobo, atleast it will earn you some penny for the time being.

#Sai Buhari
you just nail it,perfect.
