Sweetguy25: That Nigeria was once a great a country – It is common to hear Nigerian’s make statements like “our country will be great again”. This comment is quite delusional. Nigeria, to the best of my knowledge has never been a great country. You may try to pass of some of our characteristics like population, ethnicity or the fact that we used to have groundnut pyramids in the past as greatness but reasonably, these things don’t make you great. Examples of countries that were great are China and Argentina. They were both known to be highly prosperous countries in the past and unfortunately lost their prosperity as time went by. Nigeria has never been known to be a prosperous country since its independence till date.
That Nigeria is a rich country: This is another unfounded untruth that is perpetuated by some ignorant Nigerians. The “GDP per capita” is the standard used in measuring how rich a country is. Nigeria’s GDP per capita currently stands at 3000 dollars. This makes Nigeria a low income country and one of the poorest countries in the world.
That Nigeria is more developed than most countries in Africa: Some Nigerians who have never been beyond the boundaries of Lagos and Abuja would think there are fewer places in Africa that are better than these places (and Nigeria as a whole) in terms of infrastructure and economic development. Recent ratings from the World Economic Forum’s global competitiveness report shows that even in West Africa, certain countries like Cote D’Ivoire, Ghana, Mali, Cape Verde and Senegal all have better infrastructure ratings than Nigeria. Honestly speaking, Nigerians have a myopic view as to what true socio-economic growth and development entails. Seeing private jets and luxurious cars as development while majority of the populace cannot afford beyond the basic necessities of life isn’t development.
That Nigeria would develop and be great: Although we can’t predict the future, we can judge from history and the current state of affairs to project what the future would look like. The possibility of Nigeria becoming great with its current structures, constitution and institutions is very slim. The current socio-political and economic regime that perpetuates greed, rent-seeking, injustice and laziness will not get this country where is plans to be. Until we begin to call for a structural and systemic change, Nigeria may not witness any progress in the long-run. Ghana, Mali, Cape Verde and Senegal all have better infrastructure ratings than Nigeria;dude this part must be a joke.which Ghana is more developed than Nigeria,or has more infrastructure rating than Nigeria?I hope you are not referring to the Ghana i known very well. |

the conversion rate of the naira to cedis is wrong,go check online, beside i live in Ghana. uboma: From the late 70s up to the early 80s were Nigerian's golden years.
There were no hassles securing visas to other countries. We even had the Brits and other foreigners flocking into Nigeria to secure employments in our universities.
As a citizen of the country, upon graduation from the university, a brand new car + accomodation + employment was provided by the govt.
We were the envy of other countries. But the tables has turned around and NGN 1 equals to USD220 now. There's no employment for graduates now. the list is endless and no need recounting them (to avoid emotional breakdown).
Just recently, I was shocked to hear that the govt of Ghana still provides a car and accomodation to graduates of medicine and nursing. About 2 months back, I sent NGN100,000.00 to Ghana and after the transfer via Access Bank, I discovered that the equivalent in Ghana Cedis was just one thousand and a few hundreds to my NGN100,000.00.
Our leaders have sucked Nigeria dry. Will Nigeria attain her golden era again remains to be seen.

Politics › Re: Cancer: Pray For Me, Diezani Begs Nigerians by aimuan(m): 7:54am On Oct 10, 2015 |
akinzeb: • Ikokwu, Gbagi, Sarah Jubril disagree over her request
By Clifford Ndujihe (With agency report)
IMMEDIATE past Petroleum Resources Minister, Mrs Diezani Alison-Madueke, who is battling with cancer in London and being investigated by UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA) for alleged corruption, has asked Nigerians for a special favour. She wants Nigerians to pray for her as she undergoes cancer surgery next week.
Speaking through Oscar Onwudiwe, her family’s lawyer, according to online newspaper, The Cable, Diezani, who denied reports of her arrest, said she was undergoing cancer treatment in the UK and “hopes to come out strong to face all the allegations.”
In a statement, Onwudiwe said: “The Madueke family, like most other families, has its own challenges. For instance, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke has been receiving treatment for cancer in the UK which started while she was in office. She completed months of chemotherapy just last week and she is scheduled to undergo surgery next week in London.
The family has been bearing this challenge with prayers and as much grace and fortitude as possible; and would plead with all reasonable Nigerians to pray for her recovery so that she can face these allegations and give account of her stewardship.”
The call for prayers came after an earlier statement released on Thursday in which the family revealed the state of the former minister. Onwudiwe had made the following statement:
“The stories are false but it(sic) feeds the mood of the moment; hence, the silence from Diezani all along. It is worth emphasising that Mrs Alison-Madueke was never arrested or detained and her passport was never seized.
She was merely invited, and she honoured it promptly. But there is a limit to how much any reasonable person can bear the tactics of these … We all know that what makes a lie fly is the little truth contained therein.
This happens to be the weapon used to defame highly-placed people.” Onwudiwe also accused the Nigerian media of reporting “laughable claims” of a purchase of an apartment in Hyde Park with an “amount which embarrassingly ranges from £12.5 million sterling to £13 billion sterling (N3.9tr).
“This claim is utterly false and laughable, for the amounts mentioned are only in the imagination of the reporters. This property is quite popular. It belongs to a well-known eminently successful Nigerian entrepreneur who would also find this allegation embarrassing as the intention to sell the property has neither been contemplated nor disclosed to any person.”
Mixed reaction greets Diezani’s prayer request
Diezani’s request elicited mixed reactions from some Nigerians. While some said they would not pray, others said they would pray for the speedy recovery of the former minister to enable her face her graft trial.
We will pray for her and all Nigerians – Ikokwu
Second Republic Politician, Chief Guy Ikokwu, who has always called for the restructuring of the country and adoption of the parliamentary system of government to check corruption, urged Nigerians to pray for the former oil minister.
‘’We will pray for her and all other Nigerians, both those who are ill and well so that God bestows His mercy on all for the right things to be done in the nation. Nigeria needs God’s mercy. God knows those who are guilty and those who are not guilty,’’ he said.
We will pray she recovers and asks for God’s forgiveness – Sarah Jubril
Former Presidential Candidate, Mrs Sarah Jubril said apart from quick recovery it is also good for Diezani to ask for God’s forgiveness if she is guilty of the graft allegations.
Her words: ‘’Thank God she believes Nigerians have a forgiving heart. We will pray she recovers and ask God for forgiveness if the allegations against her are true. Thank God she is alive. I wish her quick recovery. It is good she has the humility to ask Nigerians for their prayers. We hope to see her in good health soon.’’
She doesn’t deserve our prayers – Gbagi
However, former Minister of State for Education, Olorogun Kenneth Gbagi, disagreed and urged Nigerians not to pray for her. ‘’How can we pray for her when she put Nigeria into bankruptcy? Let her go and ask forgiveness from God.

Politics › Re: APC May Lose Senate Presidency To PDP - Thisday by aimuan(m): 9:42am On Sep 28, 2015 |
iamboody: I don't even know why all these media outfits are giving PDP hope. As far as this country is concerned PDP will not lead the Senate. I don't know many of those senators that is as smart as Bukoka Saraki, who wants to get into the black book of Buhari /Tinubu not even David Mark. How many people saw this Saraki's trial coming from the angle of CCB, not even Saraki himself. Almost all the senators are corrupt because it was easy to be corrupt during the past 16 years of PDP ruling, so there is always a way to nail anyone when the need be. So I can confidently confirm that all these surface analysis would have worked only if all things were equal in the past the way it starts to be now, if this country had been freed of corruption in the past 16 years, if stealing had been seen as corruption in the past. PDP gave APC the platform they are riding on now and I trust Asiwaju to crush anyone standing on the riding track. PDP would have become a Senate President if Politic was mathematics but nay politics ain't mathematics. The only person that will ever lead the Senate will have to be the anointed candidate of Buhari/Tinubu. Just watch as events unfold. very reasonable analysis, kudos. |

Politics › Re: Buhari Cabinet: Govs Senators, Reps, Lose Power To Pick Nominees by aimuan(m): 10:32am On Sep 06, 2015 |
criminalmindz: friends and colleagues from every part of the nation and some of my best friends are not even from my side of the country.
However, recent events are making me to have a deeper reflection and I wish we- Southerners in this instance- can have some kind of introspection. Out of 25 appointments made so far, 18 are from the North, 3 are from the South West, 4 are from the South South while the South East has ZERO appointments. A tweet which I saw today stated that “southerners are only competent when it’s time for elections but northerners are competent in terms of governance” and this made the following thoughts run through my mind:
1. Only Southerners have been accusing fellow Southerners of corruption. Oshiomole has been attacking Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala as if Ngozi turned down his marriage proposal. The same Oshiomole tried to make nonsense of Akinwumi Adeshina’s successes in the agriculture sector. Ambode tried to pull Fashola down and successfully smeared him with stains. Maybe that’s why Fashola did not get the Chief of Staff role. I’m yet to see a Northerner accuse another Northerner of corruption, even when they belong to different parties. The closest a Northerner got was when the new Kano State Governor attacked Rabiu Kwankaso but he quickly sheathed his sword and even disowned previous reports of attacks. Why are we like this?
2. Are Southerners the only ones who are corrupt? Were there no northerner heading the ministries and parastatals? Did the outgone Comptroller-General of Customs, Abdullahi Dikko not have an alleged case of certificate forgery but he still served out his tenure until he resigned voluntarily? I’m not in support of corruption under any guise but the fight against corruption must not be seen to be sectional.
3. How come it’s easier for the President to believe that Sanni Abacha was not corrupt in spite of recovered loot while it is so easy for him to believe Goodluck Jonathan is irredeemably corrupt?
4. I still remember that aside from God, Tinubu made Tambuwal what he is today. The same Tambuwal would later call Femi Gbajabiamila ‘incompetent’ and rated Dogara as more competent. The same Tambuwal was propped up by Tinubu, a Southerner against a fellow Southerner, Mulikat Akande. Obasanjo was very key to denying Goodluck Jonathan a second term. A good number can still recall how OBJ tore his PDP membership card in public glare. The Northerners find it easy to support themselves but we are always pulling ourselves down. Babangida Aliyu, Sule Lamido and all the other Northern Governors including the former PDP Chairman Adamu Muazu often times refused to campaign for Goodluck Jonathan openly and many times even espoused the virtues of the opposing candidate on the rostrum!
5. Southern leaders and Presidents pull down Southern business men but prop up Northern ones. How many people still remember how Obasanjo ran Mike Adenuga out of town but both Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan made Aliko Dangote what he is today. No northern leader goes against their own. I dare to put it on record that President Buhari will never go against Aliko Dangote for any reason.
6. How come OBJ pardoned Salisu Buhari, the ex-Speaker who forged his credentials and he later was given an appointment as a Governing Council member of a University and heavens did not fall- but when Goodluck Jonathan pardoned Alamieyeseigha it became one of the major issues counted against him? Is there one rule for some and another rule for others?
7. We find it easy to raise our voices in support of the deportation of Buruji Kashamu but have no qualms with Atiku Abubakar strutting around the corridors of power.
8. Only Southerners find it so easy to abuse their elders when they voice opinions not in tandem with the popular opinion. We find it easy to diss Afenifere elders and call them ‘Afenifebi’ while hurling expletives and curses at them. We even abuse our kings and priests. Northerners will never abuse an Emir no matter how unpopular what he said is. Can you imagine any Northerner raising his voice against the Sultan? In spite of Tanko Yakassai, Balarabe Musa and Dangiwa Umar’s perceived support for Jonathan, northern youths did not abuse them. But our own youths run down our elders on social media while our educated elite also support the act.
These are some of the thoughts that have been running through my mind. I don’t pretend to have all the answers and I do this at the risk of being labelled an ethnic bigot. The point however is that Southerners have to get their acts right. We have to put our house in order. The bickering must stop. Let’s engage our emotional intelligence. Let’s not allow others to exploit our tendency to self-destruct. u deserve ministerial position for this beautiful piece of write up.i bow my head for u. |

Family › Re: My Neighbour And His Fiancee by aimuan(m): 10:52am On Aug 18, 2015 |
martyns303: Let me start by giving you guys a brief description of where I stay as it is a vital cue to this story.
I live in a compound with other flats, where the shortest conversation between neighbours is "good morning" and the longest is "please come and move your car, I want to go out". It is the kind of compound where you go to bed with your generator on, only for you to wake up in the morning to find out that there had been light all through the night, and your neighbours had turned off their Gen without telling you. Don't tell me about the pains of child birth, there is nothing more painful than looking at your fuel gauge like "my precious". By now you guys get the message, in pidgin "nobody send you".
Now back to me, I had just concluded a professional course and was just sitting at home waiting for something to come up, that is just a fancy way of saying am jobless. But I am not searching for one, so all you NL scammers gats stay off. Without anything to do, I sit at home watching movies, and just lazing around. "My grandma just died and I am the man of the house", actually my grandma died a long time ago, I only just got my own place now. With me staying at home while everyone else in the compound goes to work or a few people that don't, I see everything that goes on, making me the all seeing eye (nope I am not affiliated to the illuminati).
A couple of months ago a young couple moved into the compound, the girl looks 25 max while the guy looks 28, they seem happy and in love, but at least once every month I will hear the girl crying profusely, I would hear her crying and lamenting, saying things like Jesus ooo, God oooo, ehhhhhhh, God please help me, I can't take this anymore, ewoo, etc then I would hear her snapping her fingers. I am probably the most soft hearted male, cos I would be feeling really sad, I don't know what a soul is, but I feel really depressed and saddened in my soul each time. If you have watched titanic, the part where Jack placed Rose on the floating stuff, you can't control the tears rolling down ur cheeks or standing in your eyes, and that's how I feel hearing this girl cry like that. Sometimes her sister would come and this has been going on for months.
Two days ago, I heard the wife crying again, and since my compound is where no one cares, nobody has ever bothered to go in and ask what's happening, but I have had enough and was ready to confront the guy, i am going to give him a piece of my mind and Damn the consequences, so on this day I walked into their flat, the parlour door was open so I just walked in, on getting in, I found the girl in pants and bra, with wrapper half way her stomach, the guy is sitting by her side with a side stool, on the floor are packs of medication, bottled water, what looks like custard and other stuffs. When I walked in that wasn't the sight I was expecting, I had hoped to see the guy beating the living day light out of his fiancee, and me yelling at him to stop. I may have been frozen for like 15 secs while I absorb what's going on. I managed to say a weak sorry, turned around and walked out. The guy followed me immediately and asked what I wanted, I explained to him how I had heard his fiancee crying and wanted to make sure she is ok. "She is fine, thanks for your concern" then walked away, I know he is pissed at me walking into their apartment like that, and even the worst, seeing his woman like that. Damn what was I thinking sef!
When I got back to my flat, the movie felt sour, couldn't concentrate on anything, all I could think of is how I am going to compose my words and apologize to the guy and his fiancee. This morning I saw him washing his car, so I walked up to him and started reciting my memorized apology. Planning is the key people, cos with the way I said what I said it hit him cold. The guy started explaining what's going on to me without me even asking. Apparently that's how the fiancee gets into pains whenever it's that time of the month for her, he said the pains could be excruciating for her. He said it's a part of her he's only getting to know as they only moved in together a few months ago, he has advice her going to see a doctor but she rebuffed the idea saying it is a normal thing. He explains how he goes through sleepless nights, boiling water and putting it in a plastic bowl with cover so she can place it on the stomach, buying pain relieves, he mentioned quite a bit of pain relieves, but that they seem to do little. He felt bad cos he is now of the idea that the rest of the neighbors may also have the perception of him being an abusive guy without knowing what's going on, told me he had to take days off from work sometimes to stay with her and when he can't, her sister comes around.
In my attempt to be nice, I had promised to find a solution to his problem. Don't blame me, at that moment I just want to be nice and get myself out of the mess I got in and appear a good friend.
So please, if there is anyone out here who knows why this guy's fiancee is going through so much pains, and if it's normal, are there home remedies, herbs or medical prescriptions that could help her situation, please help a brother out. Dankie!!!

olad99: Hello, am writing this with a saddened heart, am a young guy at the early stage of my life and a student to be precise. am faced with a social death disease(halitosis) I have been battling this for about 6 years now but all to no avail.
here are some of my ordeals; just about 4years ago(just finish my secondary education then), i met a dentist, was advised on washing, in which i did it but seems the condition remain the same. i was advised on regular wash every 6 month but couldn't met the condition due to cost #5000/wash. Little did i know that this is just the beginning of my social arrest.
in about two years ago 2014, i visited one of the government dental hospital @ Ibadan(Oyo state), was placed on dental routine, tongue scrapping mouthwash, sugarless gum Among many option. I tried all this round but seems none work for me. A year ago visited another private hospital @ Ibadan was asked to pay for #3,000.00 card fee, what a gorgeous amount in the mind of low income student but i manage to pay it (borrowed) for the sake of my social freedom. to my great surprise they only recommend most of mouthwash and mouth spray i have once used before. what a disappointment, it seems they let me down even with their huge card fee.
I have no option other than to take to online solution to my problem it's then that i now discover that my problems lies on group of bacteria that reside @ the back of the tongue that produce bad smelling chemicals (sulphide) through online consultation from THERABREATH.COM . a renowned US based dental organisation. I was recommended their product (therabreath mouthwash) and their toothpaste which is fluoride free. Now the problem lies in getting the mouthwash which is (#42,000) equivalent in naira with shipping cost. No doubt it would work for me due to a lot of people's testimonies.
