Owngoalnigeria.com can exclusively reveal that during the last training session of the Super Eagles of Nigeria ahead of their game against Algeria later today coach Gernot Rohr experimented with some ideas.


The coach tinkered with his selection for the last game which was the win over South Africa by altering the lineup during the session but with same formation like the one used in the last game.

Samuel Kalu was played as the right winger of the team with Samuel Chukwueze dropping to the B team while on the other flanks Moses Simon took the spot of Ahmed Musa.

In midfield, the coach also played John Obi Mikel in place of Alex Iwobi as he was lined up alongside the duo of Wilfred Ndidi and Oghenekaro Etebo for the team that has most of the regulars.

Owngoalnigeria.com also noticed that Ola Aina played as a right back for the B team with Jamilu Collins now fully recovered and back in training holding onto his spot as left full back of the team.

Mansour Boutabout, a former Algeria international, says the Super Eagles lack big name players but quickly notes that Rohr’s men are full of speed and quality in the attack.


Boutabout told Francefootball.fr ahead Sunday’s 2019 Africa Cup of Nations semifinal match between Algeria and Nigeria in Cairo that the Super Eagles possess speed and quality going forward, and submits that the semifinal clash would be a difficult game.


“It’s the last straight line. There is the physical freshness (among the Algerian players), but now it is mostly the mind that will make the difference,” said Boutabout who was capped 22 times by Algeria and scored 6 goals.


“It is the strength of the group that must carry you. I do not think we need to change much (in the starting lineup). But on the other hand, I feel that changes should be made earlier in the game.


“It will not be easy. There are no big stars in Nigeria, but there is speed and quality in the (Super Eagles’) attack.

Boutabout also reflects on the Fennecs’ quarterfinal triumph over the Elephants of Ivory Coast.


“So far, this is the biggest game of this CAN. All the ingredients were present. There was play, intensity. The Ivorians have clearly raised their level of play.


“I was particularly impressed by the offensive trio, Kodjia, Zaha and Gradel. Algeria seemed a little notch above me.


“They were efficient in the first half, and should have killed the match with Bounedjah’s (missed) penalty kick.”


Boutabout represented Algeria at the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations in Tunisia which Nigeria won. The Algerian team lost to Morocco in the quarterfinals.

Non-academic staff of Nigerian universities will on Monday begin a three-day nationwide protest as a notice of their intention to go on an indefinite strike over the failure of the federal government to implement its agreement with them.

The agitation by the non-teaching staff is coming four months after their colleagues in the Academic Staff Union of Nigerian Universities (ASUU) suspended their two-month strike.

The non-academic unions, comprising the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities (NASU), said the agreement now in contention had made them suspend their own industrial action in March last year.

According to the chairman of the Joint Action Committee of the unions, Samson Ugwoke, the protest will precede the resumption of the strike.

”We are directing our members to mobilise for a protest on 15th July to send a notice of strike to the federal government, ” he said.

The unions had embarked on a nationwide strike on December 4, 2017, following the failure of the government to address their grievances. That strike was suspended in March 2018.

The former Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, had said then that the government would source for N8 billion within five weeks to pay the striking workers.

The minister announced this as a resolution reached at a meeting on March 13, 2018.

But the unions during their protest in 2018 said the delay in the payment of Earned Allowances had become a source of discomfort and agitation by their members and a source of embarrassment for their leaders.

Biodun Fatoyinbo, founder of the Commonwealth Zion Assembly (COZA), has announced a suspension of a seven days programme of the church, saying the “Holy Spirit” directed him to do so.

Speaking when he mounted the altar on Sunday, the pastor said he was unhappy about the scandal rocking the church.

Fatoyinbo has been under pressure since Friday when Busola Dakolo, celebrity photographer, accused him of raping her.

Although he denied the allegation, the pastor has been widely criticised, with some Nigerians on Twitter asking him to step down.
