See below my post in part 18 on Oct 15th 2020 about he same topic. This has my own level then. "I don't think it could on its own except the underlying cause is organ related and would have heavy medical costs to manage beyond a particular threshold (20k CAD?) annually. Also, did you know and disclosed to the doctors/nurses during your medical screening at the panel physician. I was flagged with a slightly high BP (142/91) during medicals. I was scared too but I passed my medicals about a month later. In fact, a cardiologist report is listed on my e-medical slip, as one of the exams they did in my case. I am guessing due to age (41) and maybe the slightly elevated BP reading. Although I am still awaiting SP final decision since submitting application on August 22, I don't think that will count negatively just on its own. I could be wrong though but that's my personal experience. Cheers!" OmaJoe1: 1 Like |

With WAEC, you will most likely be unable to study medicine in North America (US and Canada) without a first degree in the medical/life sciences. I don't know much about if you apply with A-level results though but I still doubt direct admission into medicine is possible. Not even for citizens. Infact most undergaduate admissions (who otherwise qualify for admission but fall short of certain passmark) will be offered undeclared major in a specific faculty/school until you fulfil certain general pre-requisites in the first/second year. There is also the problem of whether they make their medicine degree open to certain/all international students. You need to investigate that. My advice is to apply to the science course closest to the aspects of medicine you hope specialise in future for your undergraduate. You can then see where that takes you. Some people get residency/citizenship before they are able to apply to medical school after first degree. blessedbest: 1 Like |

Not really. Although I would want you to state what levels you meant by abnormal so those who are medically qualified can comment, because I am not. I can't remember what my own level was back then but you can check my post in August/September 2020 for some idea. I had a relatively higher BP when I had my medical too and still passed it. I think the most important components of your medical exam is that no indication of organ damage/issues. One way is to check the Cardiologist's report and the Serum Creatinine test result. If the HBP is not an indication of a problem with these ones or any other problem, then you are good to go. HBP may be more common than most of us think - in Nigeria considering the stress we go through on the average - but also very dangerous if not managed. But on its own (within certain limits, I assume), it is not enough ground for medical failure/refusal in this student visa context. These are my own personal experience and thought to share in response to your question. OmaJoe1: 1 Like |

@Lovesarrow and other in the house familiar with procuring GIC by Nigerian Int'l Student to support visa application: what is the best option/route to do this? I remember trying this in mid-2020 but was not possible to do then. Or it could also be that I was not well informed about the process, back then. I am trying to think through adding a GIC to my cousin's application against Winter 2022 (19 yr old undergrad going to Usask). Am in Canada and have bank accounts with CIBC and RBC. Any of these bank offering the service to Nigerians still back home or does my own status here/with banks help in any ways? Thanks. Lovesarrow: |

I don't know how it works in Nigeria but I know of a Ghanaian colleague based in Europe who got PPR and found his passport was just about 7 months to expiration. He informed the embassy and they gave him 90-days or so (longer than the normal 30-days stated on the PPR - to submit the renewed passport. Although he is still working on getting the new passport, I suppose the application will be suspended until the passport is sent - within the extended timeline requested. Echogrey: |

I will say apply for visiting for the youngest along with your own study permit and then prepare to provide a plan/explanation for taking care of the kid while you are studying - paid creche etc. - in your application. WarriBrandChic: |

Definitely, you can. If she uses her own personal or company bank account to run the business, feel free to add it and indicate in your LOE/SOP (under the home ties/family support section) what those document(s) are for. EngrEgghead: 1 Like |

What are the ages of the kids (because google & dem oyinbo say "toddlers" na pikin wey be btw 1 - 2 years old)? Children under 4 years old cannot apply for study permit - only visiting. Our common advice here is for the principal applicant to apply first for themselve, travel to resume study, before trying to add family. But there have been a few exceptions who applied with family and got approved. Generally, the chances of visa success for family going with student is very low but not impossible. WarriBrandChic: |

Hi, All your plans are feasible and seem realistic. Your siblings in Canada and having a family of your own are not limitations. These can actually be good factors if well leveraged. I think you should focus on getting a tight application for your admission in first. The process is like a full time job on its own so I say get cracking on that aspect and leave the visa worries for now. You will cross the bridge when its time for that. For now, make the decision about what course/school/research focus and get a supervisor etc to aid your admission. BTW, I am assuming you have a masters degree and some research experience often documented by research publication(s) since you are applying for PhD. These - in addition to a good research proposal and available supervision - will improve success of your application and potential funding. You can study for free (or almost for free since there is nothing free afterall when you consider the opportunity costs of statying in school instead of making money working) at PhD level. You just need to have a competitive profile and get your application well packaged. I suggest you see other posts about preparing for PhD applications (including my own personal experience shared in part 18) and from the GURUS in the house on this aspect, for some insights. Best of luck in the journey ahead. Ire oh! Kokopuff: 1 Like |

Anyone know where second stream (first dose) are being administered in Lagos Island/VI/Ikoyi axis? My spouse has checked at Sura and Onikan PHC but they said in two weeks time. I suspect something is off. One will get there in two weeks and they will say it has finished again. Any confirmation of where first dose vacinnation in ongoing in this area or even mainland? shupy: |

Ofcourse, you can. That was exactly what I did - it was even after a month I arrived in Canada. This will show all the processing history and maybe help you plan your future applications riding on this approval better. CrownTdan: 2 Likes |

@afomon12 and @ikemummy Congrats on your admissions and funding. I also wish you both and others still waiting a positive outcome in your applications. From personal experience and those I know on this paltform as well as offline, it is best to always include your own bank account statements in addition to the school funding. For instance, I had less than N50,000 in my account when I submitted my application with full funding (for 4-years). However, that didn't stop me from generating MBS for the naira and for a virtually empty dorm account too to show as POF. I requested my GCMS note two months after arriving in Canada to get a sense of how the processing went. It was a 78-page document. NB: When I submitted application for SP in August 2020, NSE was not yet in effect then. For the person who is married and already submitted the application with school funding only, (27k CAD is not addequate per the new NSE rule). This is where you could have used you own personal bank statement to make up the difference. Note that you also have a family and the VO will likely adjudged your application with an eye on what your family will survive on while you are away. So if you want to send additional document, I suggest you add a LOE that shows breakdown of your costs for the first year and your funding plans. Show how your family will cope financially while you are away even if this is just showing that your spouse has a job/business to support in your absence. March application date also seems a bit mature so I would request GCSM notes now. For the single applicant, I think you did a good job but could always be better. If you have no qualms with submitting your own bank statement for one year, I think it is okay to do so. Although it would have been best if this was done originally. All in all, both applications are promising. post=102957456]Wow!!! Please let us keep in touch. [/quote] 9 Likes |

Hi, Can you answer these related questions to enable us understand the situation and better respond. Has the person left for the UK already or still in Nigeria and trying to reconsider? When is the resumption date in the UK vs. Canada? In the interim this is what I think: The application can be put in with a good justification in the SOP for why he is reconsidering going to Canada instead of the UK. It is not impossible to get a positive outcome. My fear is just that the adage of a bird in hand and the one in the bush. maangel01: |

I suggest you send to Abuja but find out if they will allow you indicate Nigeria (whjatever city you are based in) as return address. If that is not possible and you are unable to predict how long the passport could spend in Kumasi before it is returned to you there (plus they might send to Abuja for stamping regardless), them my humble advice is to wait for two weeks when you get back to base, before you send. Just my own opinion - and what I would consider to take a decision - if I was in your shoes. Omalinze: 1 Like |

You can contact me if you are in Lagos (in case you want to meet the changers) but anywhere in Nigeria if you have dorm account to receive USD. NB: Only transaction from account with same name for both Naira and USD accounts will be acceptable. So if someone is paying from another's account, you should get the funds into your own personal account first. USD in Lagos was N505/$. Alchemist01: |

You can look at the Masters program in Geography, Urban and Environmental Studies at Concordia. That's my department but you need to find your own supervisor. If you have some publication (even conference paper) will help your case for receiving funding. Your CGPA is great but it may not be enough if you lackin other areas. When you do this try fuse your MBA and Geography background plus banking experience to propose a crazy proposal that fit into the department/professors research area(s). You can also look at a Msc in GIS with specialization/application in business/industry. Shorbeeb: 1 Like |

Unless you are family members, I do not think the government of Canada will allow you to share quarantine costs or hotel room. And even at that, there is additional cost charged for each other member of the family - children inclusive - maybe not at the same rates as the principal traveller but definitely, not free. Hi @residenttourist, Congrats on your approval. If your first kid is above 4 years old, she/he will need to apply for study visa, (if) I assume the kid holds a Nigerian passport. I can't comment much on the US citizens although I have one too but my school's immigration advisor (a lawyer) advised that I apply for a study visa for her too which I did and currently awaiting the outcome. I remember she said the kid cannot attend school in Canada unless she has a study permit and I didn't want to risk it. I think the main concern may be whether the kid can travel to Canada at this time with a US passport since there are still travel restrictions between both countries. Moreso, with a US passport, you can only claim short visit purpose that will be classified as non-essential travel. These are just my thoughts but I suggest you let more experienced folks chip in, especially those with direct and very recent experiences. My comment on your hubby's prospect is similar to the logic above in respect of your other kids. Your hubby is eligible for Spousal Open Work Permit (SOWP). Clearly, you are aware of this but do not think it is a wise decision to pursue that route now and I understand where you may be coming from. So here is my two cent. Your hubby can apply for a visitor visa but the chances of success is very low for two reasons. One, it is not the logical visa category the VO expects the spouse of an international student to apply for. So you will need a very tidy application to succeed on this factor. Two, visitors are not essential travellers to Canada right now and so most visitors visa will be stepped down to create room for priority applications - two of which may be the students and spousal open work categories. Finally, depending on what route(s) you decide to take, it is advisable that you arrive in Canada before you commence their visa application process. This is because there are important supporting documents that you will not be able to access until you land in Canada e.g. study permit issued at the port of entry. To further improve their chances of success, it is often suggested [but not required] that you commence studies and if possible complete at least a semester so you can show progress through your academic transcripts. Wishing you and your family the very best in whatever decision you take. Residentourist: 6 Likes 1 Share |

Can't wait too. I applied 15th May and medicals were updated to passed 19th for spouse and 2 older kids who had medicals for their study permit. For the youngest, we applied for visitor visa because of age. Biometric also updated same day it was completed for my spouse same day while all three kids need no biometric due to their age. I have one suggestion. Let your spouse start process of getting the full Covid-19 vaccine in Nigeria before travel time. That may save you guys up to $2,000 in quarantine costs. Does anyone know if kids aged 8 years and 13 years can get the vaccine yet in Nigeria? Although this would only be a consideration if the travel policy updates per full vaccination exception from quarantine applies to kids of that age range. SoFaithly: |

I am unsure if you can control which visa office would treat your applications. I suspect your country of citizenship (Nigeria) would take precedence over your temporary place of residency (Philipines), when making this determination. You submitted police certificate and asset documents from Nigeria. Hence, I suspect these would need to be accessed by those people/offices familiar with the source of those documents. You are also aplying for SOWP and not study permit like your partner. I know someone - Ghanaian - who applied for study permit in Italy and got approval in under a month as well because he is presently studying in Italy. So the pattern suggests that the visa type, your current status, and types of document required, would determine the Visa Office and duration. lightswitch007: 2 Likes |
