I do not agree with it, lack of finance, well trained medical personnel, facilities and equipments in our hospitals make most family members to opt for such.

Lost a dear Aunt to such mundane reasoning, how?

How will a govt. hospital release someone in Coma to be taken home because there was no one to foot the bill and the chance of survival was slim.

LIFE REMAIN SACRED TO ME.
You mean a Govt. hospital discharged a comatose person? That's sad

Can euthanasia just be legalised? Or would there be a catch so medical practitioners dont just go about killing suicidal folks...i"m very interested in this topic although i dont exactly have a stance,so enlighten me
A lot of people are on the fence on this issue actually, even doctors sometimes feel like they are in the middle of the sea when it comes to making the decision. The surgical department of the hospital in my uncle's case held a meeting for close to 2 hours before they made the decision. The only mistake they made was they didn't carry us along (the family). May be it was because they could see our emotions and enthusiasm to see him out of coma.
No doctor have or should have the exclusive right to administer death to a suffering patient, but after a lengthy monitoring, at least to some extent the consent of the patient or their family should be sought. To be honest with ourselves, some illness are just incurable, even in the most developed countries. Take for example, Yar'adua, he had to suffer a lot when it could just have ended simply. But it comes down to emotions, then you see people expecting a miracle to happen. I would have wished for miracles to be spontaneous, but since it is not we just have to come to terms with it.
Someone quoted a law backing to it, it is illegal in Nigeria as we speak. But they need to look into it, just that Nigerians may actually abuse it.

WhatOnEarth:
The problem is that modern medical practice assumes that we have gotten it all figured out. Yet there is still something called 'medical research'. Euthanasia is just an easy way out when someone can't handle a situation.
When such a thing happens in soccer, a player is let go or the manage takes a walk. Why some doctors don't apply that principle may be up for debate. But I smell pride.

When you allow euthanasia, it wouldn't be long before doctors start recommending that as the new elixir for all ailment. There would be practically no convincing argument to that would stop a doctor from recommending an end of life when panadol is not close awt hand to relieve a splitting headache. That too is too much pain.

By the way, we are all broken people, no matter how much we try to cover it. We just can't give anybody any right to touch any life...for o reason. Talk of suffering? Who doesn't suffer from pain? An who wouldn't respond to love, especially when they are down to the lowest? But someone will say that it can be regulated. Really? Just like all other things have been regulated.

We should collectively swallow the pride of thinking we've got it all covered. If it is beyond you, just say so and move on. There is o shame in it and certainly no gain in putting on a false bravado.

Consider these two stories below and make up your mind. You really can't sit on the fence in this matter. You never can tell when the chickens might come home to roost and you may have to make the call. Just do your best to SAVE a life.

Some situations just can't be handled, that is medicine for you. That is why you see people looking unto God for miracles most times, but miracles don't come often, even to real men of God. A selected few only experience miracle. In a case where there is an incurable disease + suffering (there are some for now) and the patient is really suffering, and you know too well that the illness is incurable, the patient will die eventually, will you encourage further spending and 'waste of time'? Since the patient will die eventually, why not make it easy for them.
Just like Abuklaw wrote above, the patient and their family should be consulted deeply before taking such a situation. Euthanasia is a good thing for those who have incurable diseases but it shouldn't be carried out hurriedly, there have to be premises at which it would be carried out.
HealthRe: Opinion: Should Euthanasia Be Legal Or Illegal? by Akin1212(op): 9:55am On Jan 03, 2016
Abuklaw:
Euthanasia is a delicate issue. I believe everyone should be familiar with events in the medical world by now. Just few months ago, the first head transplant was carried out in South Africa. In the report, the person that has a working head has a paralyse body while the person who donated the body was vegetable -he has lost it permanently.

The parent of the donor were happy because in their own view, their child saved a life even though he couldn't live. The believe that his spirit will be happier to be useful to humanity even in his dead state.

Back to the issue, for a minor reason, euthanasia should be legalized. But it should be after a particular period of observing the patient. Like minimum of 5 years. This will enable the patient have time to recuperate in the time span. Inability to recover from such illness, there should be a written agreement that shows the consent of the patient relatives before mercy killing is granted.

I watched an Indian film which highlighted the pros and cons of euthanasia. The suffering the actor went through is enough to make any hard-hearted human decide to grant the actor mercy killing.

For a major and overbearing reason, We can't create life, so we shouldn't take it. There is only right to live and no right to die. They could have granted Job euthanasia before God healed him if it were to be in the modern world where mercy killing is legalised. Let allow God to retrieve what he gave and let not hastily cut short the life of those who can still live.

To all Muslims
Euthanasia is forbidding in your religion. Allah says 'And take not life, which Allah has made sacred, except by way of justice and law.' (VI: 151)
Good points.

Talking about lil kesh and your type of person wasn't an insult from me, I only expressed that you might be naughty which can be a compliment depending on how you see it. About people's opinion, lol you have just made a wrong claim because I respect what people think which they have the right to 100%. Did I mention who should win the award to you? I just didn't "agree" that the award "sucks" because phyno didn't win it citing my reason for disagreeing. I think it's you who doesn't respect the opinion of others. I did not cast any bad aspersion on your personality, I just said 'says a lot about who you are', I can't keep explaining because it's starting to look ridiculous. I don't do e-insults and deliberating on this will not add value to any of us, it's obvious you have taken my comment in the wrong vein, If you think I insulted you then I'm sorry. I just hope you could see my point. Next time you could have said you didn't like what I wrote instead of all these cussing.

Voluntary euthanasia can be legalized, frees greviously injured /terminally ill patients from a lot of pain and stress and also helps the financial situation of the family that the patient leaves , what's the point of paying 40,000/day in an ICU if the patient is already brain dead and will most likely never wake up again?

Sorry about your uncle @op but i don't think the nurses did euthanasia, he must have died enroute the theatre, most non-medical people dont understand how a lot of things work ( esp in our health system here) and they wrongly accuse health workers, pls Google things at the minimum before concluding
Actually that part was not a mere conclusion, it was a form of non voluntary euthanasia. They didn't care about our presence, my mum was accompanying them when they acted. They did as if the breathing aid was faulty and they removed and kept checking it until my uncle suffocated and died. Even if euthanasia would be Legalized, it has to be dependent on many factors. Non voluntary and Involuntary euthanasia should not be allowed, to an extent I can agree with voluntary euthanasia

Euthanasia... From the logical point of view; it makes sense to just end it; given d consent of the patient; voluntary euthanasia. Otherwise, it should be illegal.
In some cases, the medics simply kill the patient if the case is too difficult for them to handle...d medical personnel should be more concerned about saving lives than tactfully destroying them. Its generally against the ethics #myopinion
Nice quota, but don't you think voluntary euthanasia is more or less suicide/assisted suicide? I don't think suicide is a good way to go. Let death come naturally, in fact I am beginning to move towards the scrapping of euthanasia no matter which category. No matter how long a person has been ill, let death have the final say. We as humans do not possess the right to decide who dies or who doesn't.

Euthanasia should be illegal cus am a firm believer of miracle.
smiley In medicine, I don't think there is anything such as 'miracle'. Sometimes it happens right there before their eyes and they try to find another explanation to it. But the fact is miracle happens, but no one can tell when it will happen, so since it doesn't depend on a constant they don't really expect it in medicine except there is a sign. My mother still claims my uncle was killed by the nurses, you know. His brain's right hemisphere was already dead, but still they didn't have the right to remove his breathing aid. A lot of people really need to know about euthanasia. I am actually waiving on this issue, I don't know where to stand. Thanks for your opinion though.

The award sucks because Phyno did not win anything? You must be a joker. To me phyno only relates his music to the Igbos, and not the generality of Nigerians. I support the guys above who have been agitating for content when it comes to music. The truth is CONTENT IS KING in everything you do in life. It's just like having a blog, if you don't have good content the search engines will not recognise you. Liking lil kesh's song really says a lot about your person. The guy and his songs can be categorised as rubbish. Headies followed votes and Reekado has won it. Capish
HealthOpinion: Should Euthanasia Be Legal Or Illegal? by Akin1212(op): 4:38am On Jan 02, 2016
By the time I decided to start writing this blog post, it was just few minutes to 3:am. I had not slept since I woke up yesterday. The new year wishes was too much that I couldn't sleep until around 4am on new year's day. It's been a while I stayed up at night to make calls. Well, all thanks to the new year, I had to do that again, what a way to start 2016. By the way, happy new year to my readers. Let me just go straight to what this blog post is all about.

I believe most of you have heard about EUTHANASIA, it is not a country neither is it a woman. Encarta dictionary defines it as the act or practice of killing somebody who has an incurable illness or injury, or of assisting that person to die. In other words it is generally known as 'mercy killing'.

I had to dig up some facts, spend time on the internet looking for the 'deep' meaning of this act (euthanasia). I went through the stress to satisfy my curiosity, I can only hope I will satisfy your curiosity too with my findings. The actual question here is should euthanasia be legal or not? I don't have a stand in this, I am on the fence.

There are 3 major categories of euthanasia, Voluntary euthanasia, Non-voluntary euthanasia and Involuntary euthanasia. According to Wikipedia, voluntary euthanasia is legal in some countries, as of 2009 Switzerland, Belgium, Netherlands and Luxembourg legalized voluntary euthanasia. In voluntary euthanasia, the patient would be aware and the patient's consent would have been granted. It is more or less an assisted suicide.

Non-voluntary euthanasia is illegal in all countries, this is the most common category of euthanasia and it is the category that is mostly referred to as mercy killing. In this case the consent of the patient concerned is not available, the doctors or whoever will administer the killing do so on their own judgement to ease the pains of the patient. While involuntary euthanasia is widely regarded as murder, there is a tiny difference between it and non-voluntary euthanasia, in a case where the patient wouldn't have wished to die even though their consent is not available. In such situations, they are indistinguishable.

In 2008, I lost an uncle. He had an accident and was in coma for about five days, the medical report was that he had 50/50 chance of survival, in fact he was half dead. Even we the family didn't have the rights to decide if he should die or not, we just wanted him in the operating room, if he had died there it would have been understandable, but the nurses wheeling him into the surgical theatre under the guise of negligence gave him mercy killing. My family went indignant and we stopped the emergency unit of that hospital from functioning on that very day.

Many people have died from this act, whether voluntarily, involuntarily or non-voluntarily, even those that might still survive whatever illness they were suffering from. The medical workers have taken more lives in this way than they have probably saved. No matter how much suffering anybody is going through healthwise, they should be attended to in a way to make them feel comfortable and not to end their lives. They should be given a chance to survive. It is very hard for me to choose a side when it all boils down to mercy killing, but it is imperative to note, nobody possesses the rights to end anybody's life no matter the situation. But on the other hand, when the pain becomes unbearable for the patient or the chance of the patient's survival slims down to 20%, euthanasia will be the best option to reduce the time and cost of hospitalization. Do you agree with euthanasia or you disagree? I'll like to know what you think..

That exactly sir is the problem, after installing and uninstalling the two scripts I have installed and uninstalled wordpress and joomla twice. Whether a script/cms is installed or not, it gives 403 error.
