what do you do if we have many winners?

I never thought of that. Means I'm an amateur quiz organizer grin

The most logical thing is to split it but if we have too many winners,
I'll increase the stakes.

2-1 to United I guess.

You did not bring up ANY proof.

But to be honest, not very many non EPL fans want a repeat so
there is a possibility.

But to metion conspiracy, that means you have to start talking
about UEFA sitting down to plan Chelsea's elimination which
cannot be proved.

So are you saying you cannot mention the best league until a country
wins both cups?

If they dont win both cups, there wont be a best league? huh

honeric01:
2006/2007, Spanish teams dominated both the UCL and UEFA. there is no fault in that,  if the EPL can do that now, then they are the best for any of the seasons they do that.
How?  huh

I didn't say so, UEFA said so by organising both competitions.
Remember they were organizing the Winners cup as well. They
scrapped it themselves so now domestic cup winners will go play
in it.

The annoying thing about this argument is just that I can imagine
English teams doing well in UEFA cup and flopping in UCL.

I wonder if you will bring up the UEFA argument.

How is that a lie? Saying 1,000 Englishmen watched it is just
sacrcasm. Of course, even middlesbrough fans that travelled
are more than 1000.

I think the game is getting too big and too serious to allow
part time referees to handle them alone.

Assistant referees should get more involved with the use of
technology.

100 posts, A suggestion if I may. You can try to maybe review the conditions some more. Using just posts alone given the time range and ease of posting might not be a deterrent to cheats. You'd have to take time to scrutinize post history because I'm sure there are those who would generate that amount in a day on a new account if need be. Good idea again. Keep it up smiley

@ Dayo,

You're still on about this UEFA cup thing. I still find it difficult
to believe that is coming from you. Those UEFA cup results matter
to you more than UCL results. Results like Liverpool 5 Real Madrid 0 (Agg)
no longer matter.

What would you have said if the above was Real Madrid 5 Liverpool 0?

@ Sauron,

When Middlesbrough got to the final in 2006, I doubt whether
up to 1,000 English men watched it. grin

The back page of The Sun on that day was talking about Flintoff's
injury at the one day test in Bangladesh. grin

An English club would rather come 10th in the Prmiership rather
than excel in the UEFA.

The UEFA cup is a joke and cannot be used to measure nada

You're spot on.

The noise is usually more about English refs. Sauron has a point about the coverage

There has to be a solution to this.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Poor Refereeing In European Football: What's Your Take? by akinalabi(op): 4:23pm On May 07, 2009
Its not about the Chelsea Barca match and who took his chances or
not.

It's about shocking decisions we see week in week out. What is the
way out?

Videos? More assistants?

Thats what this topic is all about.

This is a sequel to the quiz we had here not too long ago.

See https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-237835.0.html which
Sauron won.

This time round, its open to all members.

Let's do a contest and see who has the crystal ball.

Predict the exact scoreline of the Champions League final between
Manchester United and Barcelona!

All you need to do is to post your prediction as a reply. Please take
your time to predict because you won't be allowed to change your
choice.

Results after 90 nimutes only will apply. Extra time and penalties do
no count.

CONDITION

You must have up to at least 100 posts before you can be a part of
this. The reason is obvious. I dont want people registering different
accounts so they can cheat.

Entry closes 19:40 Nigerian Time on 27th May 2009

There you go.

Every now and then, we bash the referees in the EPL and we
are quick to conclude that English referees are crap.

Watching other leagues, shocking decisions are made week in
week out.

Refereeing decisions were one of the highlights of the semi final
UCL matches.

What's gone wrong with the referees?

All the knee jerk reactions should stop - step away from the cauldron of defeat and be reasonable.

I know most of y'all don't have the mental discipline to sit back and THINK for a moment before typing the first load of gibberish that enters your brains, but at least try.

Even with our 'best' performance and without the 'bad luck' and 'doubtful decisions' we could still have lost this game and it wouldn't mean Wenger was washed up and should retire. UTD could have won on penalties and it would not mean Wenger should retire.

People are speaking out of two prime emotions - superlative euphoria and bitter, cruel disappointment. Any comments made from either viewpoint is bound to be inaccurate, lopsided and warped at best.

Making outlandish lists and quoting who should be removed and what not. . . . it's all pointless yapping right now, till things are looked at in the cold light of day, the comments here emotional outbursts at best, mental delusional rantings at worst.

Regardless of what y'all say - Arsenal is still in the way UP and will improve. The manner of the defeat and the timing will hurt for a while to come, but pain is good - you learn from it. Say all you want, I remain 100% committed to Arsenal and Arsene. I have no doubt we will be better next season - things have changed too much in the upper echelon of the club to remain as they are now.

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: The Epl Is Simply Not The Best League In The World by akinalabi(m): 6:40pm On May 06, 2009
People can come up with different angles as much as they
want but for me, the anlogy is simple.

Compare 2 different leagues. Let the teams in each league
battle it out to know the best.

The best of the two leagues should come together and do
battle. Whoever dominates is the best.

Its like the world cup. In each continent, you battle in the
qualifiers and we know the best from each continent. The
best from different continents will then do battle at the
world stage. Whoever dominates is the best.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: The Epl Is Simply Not The Best League In The World by akinalabi(m): 9:51am On May 06, 2009
@ dayo,

Point is you cannot compare teams with a wide gulf in between
them. Zaragoza got relegated does not mean they are n Stoke's
class.

When you compare teams, its not about who will win ONE GAME. It's
about their history, traditions and tropihies so asking to compare
stoke to zaragoza can only come up from half baked fans and I'm
sure you wouldnt do that except for the dissing of anything England.  cheesy

From my posts, you will notice I dont actively partcipate in threads
about comparisons.

Kaka and Ronaldo who is better

Pele and Maradona who is better

Socrates and Zico who is better

I dont like them because everybody comes up with baseless
comparisons that supports their current argument.

dayokanu:
Notthingham forest and Chelsea who do you expect to win
You see what I mean by coming up with comparisons that
support current arguments?

Who is the Zaragoza and who is the stoke in that comparison?

Forest were 2 times European Champions, Chelsea were 2 times
English champions, won the European winners cup twice before.

Stoke is a nobody in football.

More nonsense from a confused illiterate whose only goal here is to "show" . . .

It was a simple comparison, your rants where completely unwarranted.

This was my simple question to chidichris . . . minus the EPL top 4 . . . can any of the other 20 teams compete with any other team in the La Liga besides their own top 4? The answer is a resounding no since you think even Stoke city cannot take on a team in the Spanish second division.

You stupidly started talking about "pedigree" . . . so because Zaragoza won the UEFA cup in 1995 it shld be considered a team akin to Barcelona? Was that win not 14 yrs ago? What of the "pedigree" of Nottingham forest too or Leeds? Did it count for anything when they were relegated?

Infact this point further underlies the topic. Zaragoza was relegated last season . . . so you mean we shldnt compare Stoke City to essentially a team in the championship?

Perhaps you need to stop with the pub analysis or best . . . engage your brain before speaking.
You sound more and more confused.

Point is both teams are not in the same "level". Zaragoza being relegated
does not mean they are on Stoke's level.

I bet you didnt know about Zaragoza's pedigree before you started your
silly and childish comparisons.

Stop making noise and perhaps you will get my point - That the EPL is not simply all about the top 4 which was what chidichris was making it out to be. Minus Man U, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool . . . which other EPL team can compete with any La liga side?

Stoke, Aston Villa, Bolton or Blackburn?
Still doesnt make the Stoke Zaragoza comparison sensible
