debosky:
Bad decision by the ref - Fletcher got the ball before tangling with Cesc.

Two bad decisions by the ref - one that decided the game (Ronaldo's second goal) and one that might affect the outcome of the final.

That is life.
Lol!

So its the referee's decision thats taking United to the final  grin

They deserved the draw. Very organized display by Chelsea.

Exactly what I expected. They had to respect Barca. The soaked the
pressure in and hoped to catch them on the break or a moment of
carelessness from Barca.

It wasnt diffccult to see. Just the way it played out when they met
UTD last season

GOAL.COM PLAYER RATINGS

BARCELONA

Valdes 5.5 - A magnificent double-save from Didier Drogba in the first half was about all he saw of the ball. That said he must be marked down for an incident in the 80th minute where he inexplicably stood off his line at a one-on-one.

Daniel Alves 6 - Poor distribution and a penchant for getting involved in pointless 'handbags' made for a disappointing showing. Not until the final quarter-hour did he remember how to cross.

Pique 7 - Almost made a calamitous error in the first period but recovered well, and threatened from set pieces at the opposing end. Other than that mistake he was excellent - but what a mistake it was,

Marquez 5 - Very, very nearly sold the jerseys with that backpass that put Drogba through. He seldom looked comfortable and withdrew due to injury.

Abidal 7.5 - A confident enough performance from Abidal without him looking too sensational at any time.

Xavi 6.5 - Not the most spectacular of performances, but one that was solid enough in a passing sense, if not an inventive one.

Yaya Toure 7.5 - A dominant, bustling, physical display in the centre of midfield, despite the numerical advantage that Chelsea enjoyed in the middle of the park.

Iniesta 8.5 - The one really inventive force on the pitch, and one who deserved a better result for his night's work.

Messi 6 - The Ballon d'Or winner-in-waiting was virtually anonymous from start to finish, with no cutting edge on the cusp of the area.

Eto'o 6.5 - Timed his runs nicely but lacked killer instinct when faced with the impressive Petr Cech.

Henry 6.5 - At least managed to test Cech with his low drives, but faded from the game very quickly.

Substitutes

Puyol 6.5 - Booked slightly harshly, he'll miss the next leg. He was valuable in this one.

Bojan 5 - Got into a great position for an Alves cross, and then headed over an empty net into the stands. What a miss.

Hleb 5 - Again, a dreadful miss blots his copybook.

CHELSEA

Cech 7.5 - A confident performance from the Czech, who shows that he's no European flop.

Ivanovic 6.5 - A decent enough showing until the end, when Daniel Alves began to take advantage of his tired legs.

Terry 6 - Almost allowed Eto'o through to score in the second period but looked assured of himself both on and off the ball on the edge of the area.

Alex 7 - After a slow start he regained confidence and ended the game relatively strongly, if tired.

Bosingwa 8 - Managed a fine opening hour and used the ball well. When face to face with Messi he didn't disappoint, and kept the Argentine frustrated all evening.

Mikel Obi 7.5 - Was part of a midfield unit that kept the likes of Xavi in check and can be commended for that.

Ballack 6.5 - Did not do quite enough on the ball to merit an especially high rating but off the ball his play with very intelligent.

Essien 6.5 - He may have been a right-winger on the positional chart, but his was a central role on the ball. That said, he didn't do enough with it.

Lampard 5.5 - An extremely disappointing evening for the Londoner, whose shot was wayward and whose passing touch deserted him even when aimed at other midfielders, let alone Drogba.

Malouda 7 - Made an excellent start to the game and was always a good outlet for the ball, keeping Alves busy at times. Can be pleased with his night's work.

Drogba 6.5 - Held the ball up nicely and won a couple of key headers, but didn't make enough of the very few chances which he was afforded.

Substitutes

Belletti 6.5 - Put himself about nicely in the middle of the park to add some steel.

Barcelona to win at 8/11

Draw at 12/5

Chelsea to win at 9/2

Thats heavy money on Chelsea.

Go back them  grin

@ dayokanu,

You know my problem with you? You're not consisitent with
your positions and principles. You bring up theories to suit
your current arguments.

On more than one occasion, you have made this statement.

NOTTHINGHAM, Aston Villa, Liverpool and Man Utd are better than ARSENAL cos the UCL is the only thing I am bothered about.
I cant believe this same person is bringing up the UEFA Cup analysis.

Can you imagine a scenerio where the German teams are dominating
the UCL and the English teams are doing well in the UEFA cup?

Would you have brought this UEFA cup theory?

Chei!!!!! I died and woke up!!!
Truth be told, we had a genuine penalty call?
Watch the clip again, Carrick re-directed the ball before 'Gomiss' ran into him
Thanks for that. I watched it over and over again. The more I
watch it, the more I get convinced.

Cristalz:
You sure? It did look like his touch made the ball change direction. If it wasn't him, then what made the ball go elsewhere?
That is the reason why "everyone" thinks it wasnt a penalty. It
wasnt a good touch from Carrick. A very a close call. Looking over
and over again from the camera behind the goal
, I couldnt see
any touch from Gomez.

chamotex:
Cristalz, yes it wasn't a penalty.
Gomez did not get a touch. On the surface, it looked like he got a
touch because the ball went side ways. Replays showed he was
late.

It should have been a red card.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Manchester United Fan Thread: Forever Reds by akinalabi(m): 7:43pm On Apr 25, 2009
Awesome game.

I remember Fegie's statement after beating Bayern in injury time in 1999

He cursed "Football. . . Bloody Hell"

And to those cursing the ref, Webb is not my favourite ref but that was a
stone wall penalty. Gomez did not get a touch.

And it should have been a red card.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Champions League: Can Barca Prevent Another All-English Final? by akinalabi(m): 2:14pm On Apr 25, 2009
I'm sure Dayo himself knows his theory is flawed.

If we had 4 German teams doing what the English teams are
doing in the UCL, he wont dare mention the UEFA cup.

The Dangote, Adenuga theory is flawed.

Super rich people like Dangote are less than 0.1% of Naija's population

We have 4 super strong English teams. That is almost 25% of the
entire premiership. If we have 35 million Nigerians (25%) that are
super rich like Dangote, then we can celebrate.
