I generally like to see 'religion' as the outward exhibitions that result from belief in a supreme being. That is also how I interpret James 1:27. Caring for widows and orphans is not the belief itself, but a way of expressing that belief. |

4llerbuntu:I'm no saint with pirated software, but I like what I read somewhere about the difference between open source and commercial software. Most open source programmers are sustained by their regular job incomes, and those who code commercial software do it as a primary job. Hence pirating commercial software is stealing from someone's salary. And apparently we do not respect that enough. |

@ Topic I don't think there is anything fundamentally wrong with shouting when praying. The bible suggests that Jesus prayed with "strong crying" (Heb. 5:7). I think it becomes wrong when a christian believes that that is the only way God hears and answers. The bible does make any rules as to how to pray, in terms of posture, location, time, etc. It is important to distinguish between biblical injunctions and biblical patterns. For example, Jesus had 12 primary disciples (pattern), and that does not mean that every church leader must have 12 assistants. However, if they so chose, it is not wrong. Jesus' strong crying is a pattern, not an injunction. Wilfem mentioned that the kingdom of God suffers and the violent take it by force. However, the bible makes us understand that we do not wrestle against flesh and blood. When we begin to emphasize on physical 'techniques' to fight the devil, we lose the focus of prayer. |
